"We have awarded them 40 out of 350," Chandra told ET. 
 The contract has been secured by Paytm as a part of the government's plans to let <keyword id="418872" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-wallet">digital wallet</keyword> companies manage its electronic toll service. Such electronically managed tolls are aimed at saving time at toll gates and to smoothen the overall process that were till recently managed by manned booths collecting money at gates leading to traffic snarls. 
 
NHAI, in April, launched the e-tolling service in about 300 toll plazas in the whole nation so as to help the vehicles drive smoothly. 
 
The Noida-based technology firm is also in talks with the Railways for digitising payments mechanisms.

<keyword id="87432" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Highways-Authority-of-India">National Highways Authority of India</keyword> (NHAI) has recorded highest Rs 86.2 crore daily <keyword id="549988" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="toll-collection">toll collection</keyword> on Sunday, its Chairman Sukhbir Singh Sandhu said. The highest daily toll collection via electronic system of FASTags has also been recorded at Rs 50 crore (single day collection) in January 2020 as compared to Rs 23 crore in November 2019. "The NHAI has recorded its highest toll collection on a daily basis at Rs 86.2 crore two days back," Sandhu said at National Highways Excellence Award 2019 here on Tuesday.
 Sandhu said the daily transactions via FASTags have also risen to around 30 lakh per day in January 2020 from 8 lakh in July 2019.
 He said the Jodhpur toll plaza in Jaipur region has outperformed others in implementation of FASTags with around 91 per cent of toll collection taking place via FASTags.
 Toll plazas in Bhopal and Gandhinagar have also performed well in FASTag implementation, he added.
 As of December 2019, over 1 crore FASTags have been issued with over 30 lakh FASTags issued in November and December, following daily sales of 1.5-2 lakh FASTags.
 The government has rolled out FASTag-based electronic toll collection mechanism from December 15 cross all toll plazas of the NHAI.
 The government has mandated the use of FASTags across at least 75 per cent lanes of toll plazas and has restricted use of cash mode of payment to a maximum of 25 per cent lanes of toll plazas.
 FASTags-based toll collection system has been rolled out across over 527 national highways.

New Delhi, May 11 () FASTag, an inclusive technological tool for toll collection on highways, is ensuring safety of commuters during COVID-19 times, the NHAI said on Monday.A total of 1.68 crore FASTags have been issued across the country till the beginning of May 2020.FASTags not only prove useful now but would be more practical and beneficial in the coming times post COVID-19 lockdown, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said in a statement.FASTag employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for making toll payments on national highways directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to it. A prepaid tag, fixed on vehicles' windscreen, allows automated deduction of toll charges, and lets any vehicle pass through a toll plaza with zero human contact.Movement of all essential goods and services takes place majorly through the road networks of the country. "As India is gearing up for a life post the COVID-19 induced lockdown phase, the NHAI foresees an increase of commercial and private vehicles on national highways in the coming days. This will increase the chances of coronavirus spread," it said. In such a scenario, the NHAI recommends that FASTags should be the preferred mode of toll payments as it is the safest mode for toll transactions on national highways. The Government of India has mandated <keyword id="3005928" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="FASTag">FASTag</keyword> for all the vehicles operating on the Indian roads with effect from December 1, 2019. FASTag is the electronic toll collection system innovated by the National Payments Corporation of India (<keyword id="193629" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NPCI">NPCI</keyword>). A note posted by NPCI on its website observes, "FASTag offers the convenience of cashless payment along with benefits like - savings on fuel and time as the customer does not have to stop at the toll plaza." Talking about FASTag, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways said that FASTag is being viewed as the 'Aadhaar' for all vehicles operating in the nation. He also added that the existing infrastructure can support more than six million tags which will be able to carry out about 10 lakh transactions per day. Why the government wants to move to FASTag system? FASTag is yet another move towards increasing the volume of digital transactions and reducing the handling of paper money. FASTag will rule out the need for long queues and wastage of time while the vehicles need not have to wait for making cash transactions at the toll plazas. Shortening the queues and waiting time will also mean lessening the air pollution. FASTag is also a way of easy vehicle identification system the system will give a unique identification number to every vehicle for its lifetime. What the government is doing about FASTag? For testing purposes, FASTag system was launched in 2014 and it has been steadily expanding since then to cover more vehicles. However, the government has recently notified that from December 1, 2019, all the National Highways in India will collect toll payments through FASTag technology only. FASTag is based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology. The toll collection booths across the country are now fast equipping themselves with electronic toll collection infrastructure (ETC) for supporting the vehicles equipped with FASTag. The government has also partnered with 23 banks in the country to issue FASTag to the vehicles running on Indian roads including State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, and Axis Bank. NHAI has also partnered with Amazon and PayTM to distribute the FASTags quickly to as many vehicles as possible. How does the FASTag system work? Based on the Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID), the system will facilitate the toll plazas collect the toll payment through digital means while the vehicle is in motion through the dedicated lanes that are specially equipped with the necessary supporting infrastructure. The toll charges will be debited directly from the prepaid or savings account of the vehicle owner. The vehicles need to affix the FASTag RFID tag onto their windscreen. The toll payments will be automatically initiated when the vehicle passes through the NETC supported toll plaza. The government has also provided the option of integrating the existing savings or current bank account with FASTag for the purpose of facilitating seamless payments on toll plazas.

New Delhi, Feb 23 () National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Sunday said it has collected Rs 20 crore from 18 lakh defaulters who entered the FASTag lanes at electronic toll plazas on National Highways without the tag. Rolling out the electronic toll collection programme across India in December, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had said that double toll charge would be collected from the vehicles entering FASTag lanes without the tag. In order to give prime importance to existing FASTag users, dissuade defaulters and further encourage adoption of FASTags by national highways commuters, vehicles without FASTags entering the FASTag lane are being charged double the toll fee, NHAI said in a statement. "Till now, a total number of 18 lakh vehicles defaulted by encroaching FASTag lanes across India has resulted in a double charge cash toll accumulation of about Rs 20 crore," it said. RFID based FASTag, an electronic toll collection system implemented by the NHAI, has proved to be instrumental in easing the lives of commuters on national highways within two months of its nationwide implementation, it said. Over 1.55 crore FASTags have been issued through multiple Point of Sale (PoS) locations. NHAI has been observing increased sale rate of FASTags which is a clear indication of this digital system being accepted well, the statement said. As a result, FASTag transaction has crossed a landmark count of 4 million per day, it added. The statement said FASTag resulted in smooth and hassle-free movement of FASTag users on highways. The implementation of FASTags across the country has met with the desired response so far, it said adding the adoption of FASTags also means that it has brought in the much-needed transparency in collection at toll booths. In order to further increase digital collection of user fee via FASTag at national highways fee plazas, NHAI has recently waived off the FASTag cost of Rs 100 for NHAI FASTag from February 15, 2020 to February 29, 2020. New Delhi, Dec 24 () The pan-India roll out of electronic toll collection on national highways (NHs) has resulted in issuance of 1.10 crore FASTags till date, as per NHAI.
 The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) started electronic toll collection through RFID-based FASTags on its 523 toll plazas across the country from December 15 for seamless flow of traffic.
 FASTag is a prepaid tag, affixed on vehicle's windscreen, that enables automatic deduction of toll charges and lets the vehicle pass through the toll plaza without stopping for cash transaction.
 "About 1.10 crore FASTags have been issued through multiple Point of Sales (PoS). The highway authority has been observing sales of nearly 1.5-2 lakh FASTags daily which is a clear reflection of this digital system being accepted well," a NHAI official told .
 As a result, the daily electronic toll collection has touched about Rs 46 crore, the official said.
 FASTag implementation is proving to be instrumental in easing commuting on national highways and is gaining a great sense of acceptance from highway users, he said.
 "Within eight days of FASTag implementation, FASTag's toll transaction has reached about 24 lakh on a daily basis," the official added.
 NHAI is working hard to iron out the teething issues as reported by commuters since implementation of FASTags, the official said, adding that all the issues that have been flagged off so far are being addressed diligently by experienced NHAI officials on and off the ground.

 On December 15, NHAI had said that as many vehicles were without FASTag, 75 per cent lanes were being kept as FASTag lanes and up to 25 per cent lanes were being kept as hybrid lanes considering the convenience of commuters who had not installed FASTag on their vehicle.
 Regional officers have been authorised to take on the spot decision for converting up to 25 per cent lanes to hybrid lanes on case-to-case basis to avoid traffic pile up at high traffic volume fee plazas.

1.10 cr FASTags issued till date for electronic toll collection on national highways

Chennai, Tamil Nadu's ruling <keyword id="19897149" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dmk" source="keywords">DMK</keyword>, a key constituent of the INDIA bloc, in its manifesto released on Wednesday promised to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 if the opposition alliance wins the <keyword id="19895394" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha" source="keywords">Lok Sabha</keyword> polls. Restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and holding polls there, scrapping the New Education Policy 2020, slashing fuel prices, annulling Article 361 of the Constitution that provides protection to governors from legal action and appointment of Governors following consultation with Chief Ministers, were among the key promises made by the DMK. The recommendations of the M S Swaminathan committee will be adopted to ensure that MSP for agricultural products "is set at total production cost plus 50 per cent," the DMK said. Also, it announced that if voted to power, the INDIA bloc will withdraw the Agnipath scheme and reintroduce "permanent recruitment service" in the Indian Armed forces. "From now on, population census, including caste-wise census and census concerning people below the poverty line, will be conducted by the Union government once every five years simultaneously." The DMK will firmly insist on the removal of Article 356, which allows the dismissal of duly elected state governments and imposition of President's rule. The Congress party's ally in Tamil Nadu said that "new constraints" on States' borrowing capacity, imposed by the union government beyond the limits in each state's FRBM-equivalent Act will be eliminated. "A recommendation to share cess revenues with states will be made. It will be proposed that the Finance Commission increase the horizontal devolution of tax revenue (to all States together) from 42 per cent to 50 per cent." The Union government's financial contributions to states will be based on the income tax and GST collected in those states. Thus, financial contributions will be assured based on the taxes collected within each state. The finance provided to states will be permanently determined based on the 1971 population. A 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and legislative assemblies will be implemented immediately. "DMK will insist that the Union government enact a law providing menstrual leave to women, emphasizing the journey towards gender equality." Petrol and diesel prices "will be set at Rs 75, Rs 65 (per litre)" and cooking gas cylinders shall be made available at Rs 500 (per cylinder). "The introduction of the Uniform Civil Code will be strictly prevented" to preserve India's secular nature as stated in the Constitution's preamble. "The 2019 CAA law will be repealed, and all minorities will be treated equally without any discrimination. The recommendations of the Sachar Committee for the improvement of the lives of Muslims and other minority communities will be implemented." Facilitation will be provided for <keyword id="21027983" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sri-lankan-tamil" source="keywords">Sri Lankan Tamil</keyword> refugees to get Indian citizenship. Assistance will be provided to those who wish to return to Sri Lanka. Also, the manifesto said efforts will be made to implement reservation for minorities at the all-India level, similar to Tamil Nadu. "The financial assistance previously provided to minority educational institutions has now been stopped. Action will be taken to resume this assistance." For "political" reasons, funding from foreign countries to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) has currently been stopped. "The Foreign Exchange Regulation Act will be properly amended, and measures will be taken to ensure these financial aids continue to reach NGOs without any problems." The proposal of 'One Nation, One Election' will be abandoned, and for the allocation of Lok Sabha seats to states, the current practice, based on the 1971 census will continue. All "people-unfriendly" laws introduced by the BJP government over the last 10 years will be reviewed immediately by the INDIA alliance government. The "labour-hostile laws" introduced by the BJP government will be "reformed." Through the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF), the Union government will ensure a minimum pension of Rs 5,000 per month. The number of working days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act will be increased from 100 to 150 days. "A wage of Rs 400 will be provided across states/ union territories nationwide." Disbanding the current NITI Aayog, set up by the BJP regime and establishing again the Planning Commission to draft plans based on the requests of state governments is another assurance the DMK has made. "Measures will be taken to reclaim Kachchatheevu to ensure India's security and to protect the welfare of the fishermen." A mandatory "cooling-off period" of 2 years will be introduced for retired judges and secretaries before they could join private companies or political parties, the manifesto said. Waiving loans and interests for farmers in nationalised and scheduled banks, waiver of educational loans for students, monthly entitlement of Rs 1,000 for all women in every state and formation of <keyword id="21027984" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-development-council" source="keywords">State Development Council</keyword> by including Chief Ministers were among the promises made by the DMK. Exemption for Tamil Nadu from the NEET exam and complete removal of toll booths on national highways, forms part of poll promises of the Dravidian party. Further, the DMK said amendments will be made to relevant laws to ensure that state governments, elected by the people, appoint Vice-Chancellors to state-run universities, rather than Governors. Stopping government's divestment from public sector enterprises, implementing the Sethusamudram project, law to ban online gambling, setting up a <keyword id="19895345" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="supreme-court" source="keywords">Supreme Court</keyword> branch in Chennai, providing statehood for <keyword id="19901639" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="puducherry" source="keywords">Puducherry</keyword>, equal funding for all state languages including Tamil, were among the host of other promises made by the DMK. Establishment of Tamil departments in varsities and stopping construction of <keyword id="19950851" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mekedatu" source="keywords">Mekedatu</keyword> dam were also promised by the DMK. "The <keyword id="19996334" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vishwakarma-scheme" source="keywords">Vishwakarma Scheme</keyword>, introduced by the BJP government to encourage caste-based occupations, will be restructured on the basis of social justice."
