Through a six-month long pilot, the startup said that it already has a $15 million gross revenue run rate and is growing at 25% month-on-month. Livspace is also investing $30 million to grow its business in Singapore – drive demand, hire talent, build design experience centres and develop a regional supply chain. “Over the next 30 months, we aim to build Livspace into a US$500 million business operating across APAC and solve the renovation problem for tens of thousands of homeowners. Singapore marks the first step in our APAC growth and will serve as the headquarters for our global expansion,” said Livspace’s CEO and Co-Founder, Anuj Srivastava. It has also brought ex-Mckinsey and Grab executive Ravindran Shanmugam on board as the country head of Singapore. In India, the company claims to have an 80% market share and works with 3,500 registered designers and has designed 20,000 homes. In May 2019, Livspace had raised funding from Ingka Group – a key franchise partner of Swedish furniture giant, IKEA. The Ingka Group owns and operates 367 IKEA stores contributing to 90% of IKEA’s total retail sales. In September 2018, Livspace raised $70 million in a Series C round funding from TPG Growth and Goldman Sachs, along with its existing investors Jungle Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners and Helion Ventures.

But one day when he had to sign a confidential legal contract, he needed an office space. He walked into WeWork in Churchstreet, Bengaluru, signed up for a membership for half a month in December, 2018. Today, he runs a business out of there. American entrepreneur Carolyn Horner needed to do a beta testing for her app, all she had to do was look across the room, offer a free donut and in return get real-time validation for her product. Horner, the co-founder of Jenzy, an app that makes it easy for parents to find the right fit shoes for young children, could do all of this just by sitting at her desk at WeWork in Philadelphia. Mullick and Homer are among many <keyword id="53533" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="entrepreneurs">entrepreneurs</keyword> who have embraced co-working around the world for their many benefits, ranging from affordability to a chance to network to finding business deals. In India, co-working spaces have opened up in almost every other corner of big cities and are now also entering Tier 2 and 3 cities in India. They have found favour with entrepreneurs mainly for convenience, affordability, and a place to network and become a part of a community, without having to invest in real estate. With seat prices starting as low as ₹7,000 a month at some places, many of these places can be a steal for business owners. According to a report done by property consultant Knight Frank, as of 2018, there were about 200 co-working spaces in India, with the likes of WeWork, Regus, Awfis etc., being the most popular. Such has been the craze of co-working spaces in India, that WeWork which launched in the country in 2017, already contributes to ₹6,788 crore of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) across its centres in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Not just seat sharing But co-working spaces are evolving from being just seat sharing office spaces to a hub of mentorship from experienced professionals, giving entrepreneurs a chance to test their products before it goes live or just fall back on their peers when they are at a fix. Many co-working spaces also encourage networking events which also include beer-on-tap, creating a fun work environment, one which millennials love. And Amit Ramani, CEO of Awfis points it out – a millennial wants a break every hour and a half. “The fundamental question is if an office just has a meeting room and seats, where does that millennial go? The infrastructure with new age technology has even attracted corporates to co-working spaces - which offer activity-based settings,” Ramani told Business Insider. Infrastructure happens to be the key attraction of a <keyword id="2987257" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="co-working-space">co-working space</keyword>. Mishu Ahluwalia, Founder &amp; CEO, GoHive, a co-working space based out of Delhi NCR, believes that in a co-working environment a startup gets open access to a whole pool of networks which they can leverage for mentorship, vendor empanelment, recruiting and peer to peer learning. The model has worked so well that now co-working spaces are making money off offering services and building partnerships with corporates. “Co-working spaces now make focused efforts to give a bouquet of business services (including the likes of accounting, recruitment help, employee engagement, knowledge exchange, training) and on building value-added services, partner discounts and specific startup friendly rate charts to increase engagement within members and amidst people,” said Ahluwalia. Mullick, five months after he went into WeWork, has now set up his own firm – zlait Sports Bangalore LLP. “It was only because of the community which really motivated me to start up. You meet so many diverse professionals and get to bounce your ideas off them,” he told Business Insider. From beer-on-tap to testing an app for a donut, here’s how co-working spaces are bidding traditional offices goodbye

Small rocket maker Agnikul Cosmos Private Ltd is looking at overseas rocket ports to launch its rocket with small satellites apart from the Indian rocket launch centres, said a top company official. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="77506716" title="India’s first private player to successfully test a homegrown rocket engine is on track for its first full rocket launch by 2021" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> "Our first preference is to use Indian rocket ports at Sriharikota or the upcoming one at Kulasekarapattinam in Tamil Nadu (both belonging to the Indian Space Research Organisation). If the customer prefers the launch to happen from some other country, we will ship the rocket and launch from there," Srinath Ravichandran, co-founder and CEO Agnikul Cosmos Pvt Ltd, told IANS. In July 2020, Agnikul signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Italian company Leaf Space for ground station services. Ravichandran said the company has signed up with a launch port in South Australia and is exploring four to five launch ports across the world. The company is hopeful of signing a satellite launch contract in 2021 and the debut launch of its rocket 'Agnibaan' is planned for 2022. Towards roping in customers Agnikul has recently signed up with Germany based HOSTmi - a match making platform between satellite owners and satellite launch companies. "HOSTmi is supported by the European Space Agency to make it easy for European customers to have on-demand access to space," Ravichandran said. According to Ravichandran, Agnikul has already signed MoUs with several European customers - Deployables Cube, Alen Space, Innovative Solutions in Space, Nanoavionics A-A to launch their small satellite systems. Speaking about the status of the Agnibaan rocket, he said the upper stage engine has been realised and work is on for realising the first stage engine, which is bigger in size to give the necessary thrust during the initial stages of the rocket's flight. All the engines will be fired by semi-cryogenic fuel or simply put pure kerosene. The rocket height will be 18 metres and it would weigh about 14 tons at lift off and has a carrying capacity of 100 kg to low earth orbit (LEO). "We will be integrating the rocket stages in a horizontal manner. Horizontal integration is not new for the industry. Our workshop is in IIT Madras Research Park. We will be needing additional space," Ravichandran said. While there is no certifying agency for satellite launchers, Ravichandran said the company has asked ISRO to review their engine. "Having now completed multiple engine firings and igniter hot fire tests, we are now gearing up to a full blown semi-cryogenic engine hot fire test in the coming months," he remarked. Agnikul will buy commercially available navigation systems and modify them to its needs. According to Ravichandran, the global micro, nano and small satellite (satellites weighing 1kg to 150kg) launch market is estimated to be about $2-$3 billion per year. About 500 satellites are being launched across the world and the carrying rate is about $40,000 per kg for low earth orbit. Presently, small satellites are carried as piggyback luggage by bigger rockets. Thus, the waiting time for small satellite makers to put their satellites into orbit is very long. While small rocket players may face competition from agencies having bigger rockets in terms of pricing, Ravichandran said the satellite players will have to look at the opportunity cost of waiting for space in a bigger rocket whereas it may not be so with players like Agnikul. He said Agnikul has raised $4 million in two rounds of funding till date. Indian space startup Agnikul may be looking outside India to launch its rockets

Through this tie-up, the space tech startups identified by ISRO will be on-boarded onto the 'Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub' platform, which supports startups at every stage of their journey from idea to unicorn. "ISRO's collaboration with Microsoft will greatly benefit space tech startups in their analysis and processing of vast amounts of satellite data for various applications, using cutting-edge methods like AI, Machine Learning and <keyword id="2144645" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="deep-learning" source="Orion">Deep Learning</keyword>," said <keyword id="2618685" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="s-somanath" source="Orion">S Somanath</keyword>, Chairman of ISRO. Through 'Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub', space-tech startup founders in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> will have free access to the tech tools, and resources they need to build and run their businesses. This includes technical support to build and scale on Azure, best-in-class developer and productivity tools including GitHub Enterprise, Visual Studio Enterprise and Microsoft 365 and access to smart analytics with Power BI and Dynamics 365. "Through our technology tools, platforms and mentorship opportunities, we are deeply committed to empowering space tech startups in the country to drive cutting-edge innovation and accelerate scientific discovery," said Anant Maheshwari, President of Microsoft India. Microsoft will also provide mentoring support to space tech entrepreneurs in areas ranging from space engineering to cloud technologies, product and design, fundraising and sales and marketing. In September 2018, Livspace raised $70 million in a Series C round funding from TPG Growth and Goldman Sachs, along with its existing investors Jungle Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners and Helion Ventures. Livspace, launched in 2015, brings together homeowners and designers and vendors, to ease home design with streamlined communication. “We look forward to the immense collaboration possibilities in areas such as catalogue and marketplace integration, retail technology, and online-to-offline innovations,” said Anuj Srivastava, co-founder and CEO of Livspace. This fresh funding will help the startup develop more products and take them to newer markets. IKEA's India partner invests in a home design startup that may in turn serve the Swedish retailer

It was a hot afternoon in Delhi’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Connaught+Place&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Connaught Place</a>. The last flight of stairs led me to <keyword id="3148540" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="FLYPMTV">Flyp@MTV</keyword>. 
 
A well-known café among the city’s party crowd, they now have a separate section for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=co-working&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">co-working</a>. 
 
I walk up to a young couple huddled in a corner. They’re a budding design and marketing firm called Enqodle. “We’ve been in the industry since the last 5 years. This is our Business Centre. The back-end team sits out of Janakpuri. We worked out of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Starbucks&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Starbucks</a> for a while, but how long can you sit! Beyond 3 hours, you have to order something”, co-founder Kapil Gupta says. 
 Places like <keyword id="2593251" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Social-Offline">Social Offline</keyword> and Flyp@MTV were regular cafes with upto 50% seats lying unused during the day. Now these cafe-cum-coworking hubs transform into full-blown bars only post 6 pm. Till then, you can work out of here for a fee of 5,000 bucks a month. 
 
For that you get quite a lot, mind. Unlimited free tea/coffee, free web hosting, some discount vouchers, IT support and 15% discount on legal services. Throw in some free mentorship and networking sessions, and even the hustler generation can’t bargain for more. Did we mention the monthly fee is redeemable on food and drinks? 
 
Yeah, that. 
 
Kapil’s co-founder Swati accepts there are some challenges. “Getting our parents to understand we’re working out of a cafe is a task. The general perception of a café is that it’s pure chaos. It only gets a bit loud post 6 pm”, she smiles. 
 Most don’t seem to mind the music. <keyword id="3260254" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="One-Internet">One Internet</keyword> co-founder <keyword id="201692" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Himanshu-Bindal">Himanshu Bindal</keyword> says this is maximum bang for the buck. “A <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Starbucks&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Starbucks</a> coffee costs Rs. 300, and you can sit for up to 4 hours. At One Internet co-working, you pay Rs. 350 a day (via monthly plan) for better internet, 24*7 access and a full-fledged office”, he argues. 
 Even in <keyword id="3506414" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="co-working-cafes">co-working cafes</keyword> like MTV Flyp, you can walk in and pay Rs. 450 for a day. Have anything from the menu and you can redeem that amount as well. 
 
Next up, a three member team peering at their Macbook screens. They’re part of the India edition of Singapore-based Techseen. “We are the first team to work out of here. It’s been about 3 months now. Most offices today are shifting out of Delhi into Gurgaon and Noida. If they can offer space for 8-10 people, we’d love to sit out of here even as we expand”, Assistant Editor Abhinav Mohapatra says. 
 
My last catch is an unlikely startup pair. Delhiite Rahul Kakkad and his Pune-based Aeronautical engineer co-founder. The duo happened to live in the same apartment complex, and decided to partner for an alcoholic beverages information portal. How convenient to work out of a bar-cum-cafe. 
 
“We come by noon, and leave by six. A typical office space makes little sense for us. We meet new people every day. Also, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Starbucks&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Starbucks</a> doesn’t have a smoking area”, Kakkad smiles. 
 
Being in a central location, the only downside is high real-estate costs. After all, it's the rentals that decide the economics. Bindal says he’s making good money. This is after paying Rs. 6 lacs as rent. “We broke even in the first 3 months. We’re investing heavily on resources now. In this business, profitability depends on how many centres you have. We’re planning to launches centres in Gurgaon and Noida soon”, he says. 
 
His company is also planning to have co-working centres in Bengaluru (Koramangala/LSR Layout/Indiranagar) and Mumbai (Andheri/Juhu) in the next two months. 
 
As evening fell, the live band started jamming. Bass shook the floor. I knew it was time to get out. The bustling co-working crowd seemed at ease though, puffing their hookahs and gorging spicy kebabs. 
 
There’s no stopping this ‘work hard, party hard’ generation. After all, why leave work for party when you can work where the party is.

Delhi’s Cafes are turning into work-spaces for India’s Startup hustlers

In 2016, the information technology (IT) industry represented around 58% of the total office demand in India and 41.6 million sq ft of office space was leased in top nine cities. 
 With millennials representing the largest generation in the workforce and an unprecedented focus on new workplace designs, work styles, and work culture; these factors have led to the growth of flexible and specialized workspaces. The coworking industry is mainly dominated by startups followed by media, e-commerce companies and a few corporates and multi-national companies (<keyword id="6362175" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="MNC">MNC</keyword>'s). 
	 
	Currently, coworking operators have a small footprint in India, but they are slowly carving out a significant space in the real estate industry. Although factors such as flexibility, networking opportunity, and cost-effectiveness will continue to drive demand for coworking spaces, the need for swing spaces, transitional workspaces and office solutions in multiple locations will further fuel the demand for coworking spaces.

	 The concentration of coworking spaces is expected to intensify further in <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword>, Mumbai, and <keyword id="6356789" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gurugram">Gurugram</keyword> (Gurgaon) due to the availability of adequate infrastructure and opportunities for start-ups in those cities.

are growing even as start-ups increasing fail in India

The day is not far when <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> will see its own mega private aerospace company like Elon Musk-owns SpaceX or <keyword id="12232315" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jeff-bezos-run" source="Orion">Jeff Bezos-run</keyword> Blue Origin, taking travellers to the edge of space and beyond, <keyword id="12180756" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="srinath-ravichandran" source="Orion">Srinath Ravichandran</keyword>, co-founder and CEO of rocket startup AgniKul Cosmos, has envisioned. In a chat with IANS, Ravichandran who is ecstatic after Agnikul Cosmos was granted access to the Indian Space Research Organisation (<keyword id="6358064" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro" source="Orion">ISRO</keyword>) facilities and expertise for the development and testing of systems and subsystems of its rockets, said that the pact with ISRO will allow them to ultilise its facilities to test out various sub-systems of their launch vehicle. "This will, in turn, help us with reduced capital expenditure and expedited testing," he said. "India can have its own SpaceX or Blue Origin kind of mega private space firm in the near future. There is so much support from the government and investors are open to invest too in the homegrown spacetech startups," Ravichandran added. The next step, he added, will be to aim multiple launches per year and scale to the extent of having a launch once in two-three weeks. "Beyond that would be about making the vehicles more efficient, thereby providing even cheaper access to customers. We are doing this through a mix of innovations on various technologies in the vehicle," Ravichandran informed. Last month, Chennai-based Agnikul Cosmos received the nod by the Department of Space to carry out multiple tests and qualify its single piece 3D-printed semi-cryogenic engine and other systems of its rocket at various ISRO centres. This is the second pact that the Department of Space has signed with a rocket maker, after the first with Hyderabad-based <keyword id="7537495" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="skyroot-aerospace" source="Orion">Skyroot Aerospace</keyword> on September 11. According to Ravichandran, their rocket engines are 100 per cent 3D-printed, that too in a single shot. "This allows us to directly assemble what comes out of the 3D printer in our launch vehicle. The big advantage of this is the ability to provide and enable rapid launch access and, at the same time, make customisable launch vehicles," elaborated Ravichandran. He formed the startup with Moin SPM within IIT-Madras with a seed funding of Rs 3 crore, with an aim to develop and launch its first rocket in 2021 and subsequently develop ability to provide launch service for satellites. The current investors in the spacetech startup are Mayfield India, PI Ventures, Speciale Invest, Beenext, Artha and others. In June, India decided to allow private companies to establish and operate rocket launch sites within and outside the country, subject to prior authorisation from the government. Similarly, any rocket launch (orbital or sub-orbital) from Indian or overseas territory can be carried out only with authorisation from Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Center (IN-SPACe), an independent body constituted by the Government of India, under the Department of Space (DOS). The launch could be from own or leased launch site and also from mobile platforms (land, sea or air) as per the Draft National Space Transportation Policy-2020 brought out by the Department of Space. "Now that we also have to plan the entire engine building facility in-house, we are confident that we can control engine making end-to-end in India, thereby not only enabling 'make in India' but also 'design in India'," Ravichandran told IANS. He said that anyone who wants to do a space tech startup should do it today. "Right now is the best time to do a spacetech startup in India. The government has been very forthcoming in terms of the help provided to enable private missions and now would be a good time to get started to get things done," Ravichandran noted. India set to witness its SpaceX moment soon, says Agnikul CEO

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/topic/WeWork">WeWork</a>, an Israeli startup, which declared its plan to set shop in India soon, just raised $430 million from Chinese investors. 
 
The office rental space startup got <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=funding">funding</a> from Legend Holdings and Hony Capital and this funding round has raised <keyword id="2918346" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="WeWork">WeWork</keyword>’s valuation to $16 billion. 
 
With this investment, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Adam-Neumann-Co-Founder-CEO-at-WeWorks-views-on-India-andits-Startups/articleshow/50602407.cms">WeWork’s Adam Neumann</a> plans to expand footprint in Asia. 
 
As per reports, WeWork’s valuation climbed from $5bn in 2014 to $16bn this year, which is more than <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=elon+musk">Elon Musk’s</a> SpaceX and Pinterest. 
 
Neumann, during <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startup+india">Startup India, Standup India</a> event in New Delhi, had said he wanted to leverage India’s workforce to build a global community.

Israeli startup, which is entering India, just got $430 million funding
