It’s been long that India was denied entry into the elite Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and it also seems to have moved on, having joined the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/India-officially-joins-MTCR-the-elite-missile-club/articleshow/52939007.cms">MTCR missile club</a>; but looks like China, the main reason behind India staying out of NSG, wants to drag the issue for long.

China's state-run media, which has been printing <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Chinese-media-insults-Indians/articleshow/52957202.cms">insulting articles against India</a>, has now said that India wants to take "revenge" on China Beijing by refusing the renewal of its journalists, who were expelled by the country a few days back. 
 
Apparently, as per the Chinese state-run Global Times, India’s business visa policy is "a pain in the butt." 
 
"Although news about India's latest galvanized waves of optimism among business communities across China, for Chinese nationals, a business visa to India remains a pain in the butt," said an article in the state-run news agency. 
 
It added that India is using the visa policy as a "weapon" against the neighbouring country as it sees China as the "culprit" for not allowing it into NSG. 
 
Recently, three Chinese journalists working for the state-run Xinhua were expelled from India since they were using fake names to get into sensitive areas and to talk to high-level government personnel.

However, as per Global Times, all these allegations were false and India was just making up excuses to get back at China. 
 
On the other hand, China is known to have thrown out foreign journalists for writing critical articles, and having a tough visa process of its own.

Butthurt over journalists expulsion, Chinese media calls India's business visa policy 'a pain in the butt'

Alphabet Inc-owned <keyword id="19902762" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="google" source="keywords">Google</keyword> has joined hands with <keyword id="19895876" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="election-commission-of-india" source="keywords">Election Commission of India</keyword> (<keyword id="20041622" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="eci" source="keywords">ECI</keyword>) to elevate authoritative information and enable people to easily discover critical voting information on Google Search and YouTube. The search engine has also put in place measures to prevent spread of false information, and label AI-generated data during the upcoming general elections, a blog post said on Tuesday. "We are collaborating with ECI to enable people to easily discover critical voting information on Google Search - such as how to register and how to vote - in both English and Hindi," Google said. It said that for news and information related to the election, YouTube's recommendation system prominently surfaces content from authoritative sources on the YouTube homepage, in search results, and highlights high-quality content from authoritative news sources. Additionally, Google said it is setting up processes to help audiences identify AI-generated content. "As more advertisers leverage the power and opportunity of AI, we want to make sure we continue to provide people with greater transparency and the information they need to make informed decisions. Our ads policies already prohibit the use of manipulated media to mislead people, like deepfakes or doctored content," it said. Google has already started displaying labels for content created with YouTube generative AI features, like Dream Screen. "Soon, YouTube will begin to require creators to disclose when they've created realistic altered or synthetic content, and will display a label that indicates for people when they're watching this content," it said. The blog post further said the company has begun to roll out restrictions on the types of election-related queries for which <keyword id="19896990" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gemini" source="keywords">Gemini</keyword> will return responses. The popular search engine said they have set policies around demonstrably false claims in areas like manipulated content, incitement to violence, hate speech, and harassment, that could undermine democratic processes. Google has set strict policies and restrictions around who can run election-related advertising on its platforms. These include identity verification, certification and authorisation by the ECI, and financier disclosures. "We take our responsibility for providing high-quality information for these types of queries seriously, and are continuously working to improve our protections," the blog post said. Google said it has recently joined the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), and pledged to help prevent deceptive AI-generated imagery, audio or video content from interfering with this year's global elections. Earlier, Google had introduced the Google News Initiative Training Network and the Fact Check Explorer tool to enable newsrooms and journalists deliver reliable, fact-checked updates to debunk misinformation. Additionally, Google is supporting Shakti, <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword> Election Fact-Checking Collective, which is a consortium of news publishers and fact-checkers in India working together to aid the early detection of online misinformation, including deepfakes, and to create a common repository that news publishers can use to tackle the challenges of misinformation at scale. "Google is committed to working with government, industry, and civil society and surface and connect voters to authoritative and helpful information online," the blog post said.

Google ties up with ECI to elevate authoritative information

Madhya Pradesh has turned on the business mode. In a news report by The Economic Times, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan while addressing a meeting of Investment Promotion Committee at Mantralaya has proposed to will establish Investment Promotion Desk in the East Asian nations with an aim to facilitate investment from those countries. 
 
Chouhan asked the authorities concerned to chalk out detailed plans to encourage investments from the East Asian countries. 
 
He said the prospective investors and their associations or bodies must be apprised of the initiatives taken under the ease of doing business in the state. They should be informed about single-door policy. 
 
On the occasion, secretary to Chief Minister, Hariranjan Rao, informed that Taiwan and other east Asian countries are exploring investment opportunities in India, specially in potential destinations like Madhya Pradesh. 
 
The policy initiatives specially in Electronics Manufacturing are attracting them. Country's first Printed Circuit Board (PCB) cluster for electronic products is coming up at Gwalior. 
 
Suggestions about setting up of centres for learning Chinese, translating Industrial policies into Chinese and Oriental Culture Centre were also given at the meeting, he said. 
 
The news report further suggests, the policy for promotion of micro, small and medium industries was endorsed at the meeting. The proposed policy talks about giving capital subsidy for micro, small and medium industries, compensating the infrastructure expenses and exempting them from various taxes and fees. 
 
Minister for Commerce and Industries Yashodhara Raje Scindia, Minister for Public Relations Rajendra Shukla and Minister for Transport and Science and Technology Bhupendra Singh, among others attended the meeting.

The move is to ensure safe election process. WhatsApp has become one of the most dominant social media platforms in India to spread political messaging. According to media reports, WhatsApp in India has over 87,000 groups dedicated to political messaging to influence voters. While its user base on the messaging platform was reportedly 200 million as of two years ago. Social media has become an integral part of election campaigning. With the Indian government recently introducing policies and regulations to curb fake news via social media platforms including WhatsApp and Facebook, the platforms along with the Internet Mobile Association of India have put out a ‘<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/general-elections-2019-code-of-ethics-for-social-media-platforms/articleshow/68502882.cms">Voluntary Code of Ethics’</a> dedicated to the upcoming elections. WhatsApp, including other social media firms, will now have to process any request from the Election Commission to take down content within three hours during the 48-hour period before voting days. "Over 87,000 groups aiming to influence the voters are currently active on WhatsApp. From fake statistics related to various government policies to news promoting regional violence, manipulated political news, government scams, historical myths, propaganda to patriotism and Hindu nationalism — WhatsApp has it all in the election season," social media expert Anoop Mishra reportedly said. Each WhatsApp Group can potentially have 256 users. "The company's vision is to be a world-class equal opportunity employer where everyone is respected and every voice is heard. It is a constant endeavour of the company to create an enabling workplace for all diverse groups, respecting and embracing the differences in the individuals," the steel conglomerate <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/business/story/tata-steel-asks-lgbtq-employees-to-declare-partners-avail-hr-benefits-1626658-2019-12-09">told</a> news agency PTI. LGBTQ employees will also be eligible for Tata Executive Holiday Plan (TEHP), honeymoon packages and travel allowances. “It has been the endeavour of the company to create an enabling workforce for all diverse groups, respecting and embracing the differences in the individuals,” the statement added. The policy will also cover medical benefits, health check-ups, adoption leave and and inclusion in employee assistance programme (EAP) among others. Accenture had introduced medical cover for gender reassignment surgery in 2016. This was before the Supreme Court decriminalised homosexuality in India in 2018 by scrapping Section 377. <keyword id="10863" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="CapGemini">Capgemini</keyword> too provides the flexibility of paid leave to employees undergoing gender assignment surgery. <ul><li>Hewlett Packard Enterprises (HP) India has extended its 26-week parental leave policy to fathers too. </li><li>Earlier, the policy included merely a five-days parental leave. </li><li>With this, it plans to increase the workforce in India by 20% over the next five years.</li><li>It will also allow employees to work part-time for three years following the adoption or birth of the child.</li></ul>Hewlett Packard (HP) India is giving new fathers the same number of parental leaves as mothers. The company said that its 26-weeks paid parental leave will now be applicable to both men and women — for childbirth and adoption. It also includes the facilitation of day-care centres across locations in India — which is eligible for children upto three years of age. The company extended parental leaves to six months in April 2019. Earlier, the policy included merely a five-days parental leave. The company aims to implement a culture of inclusivity to increase its employee retention rate. With this, it plans to increase the workforce in India by 20% over the next five years. “The benefits we are implementing around the globe reflect HPE’s commitment to attracting, nurturing and retaining the best talent in India,” HPE India VP and managing director Som Satsangi <a href="https://www.financialexpress.com/industry/hewlett-packard-enterprise-introduces-26-weeks-paid-paternal-leave-in-india/1683552/">told</a> news agency PTI. At HPE we are not only creating jobs, but also helping employees build long-term careers with the necessary support structure and working culture,” he added. In fact, the company allows its employees to work part-time for three years following the adoption or birth of the child. It provides other employee benefits like life insurance and health insurance cover. Hewlett Packard India extends its 6 month paid parental leave to fathers as well

<ul><li>The draft of national e-commerce policy suggests developing a legal framework to regulate unsolicited commercial messages and calls. </li><li>Telecom Regulatory Authority of India had earlier suggested regulating unsolicited commercial calls by allowing the consumers to choose when they would prefer receiving such calls. </li><li>The telecom regulator identified the issue in 2007 but is still struggling to fight the menace. </li></ul>India is the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india-is-the-second-most-plagued-country-by-spam-calls-says-truecaller/articleshow/67172582.cms">second most affected country</a> by spam calls. Now the Indian government is looking to boost efforts to rein in spammers. According to the <a href="https://dipp.gov.in/whats-new/draft-national-e-commerce-policy-stakeholder-comments">draft</a> national e-commerce policy, the Indian government is developing a new legal framework restricting unsolicited commercial messages “including but not limited to SMSes and emails.” It’s unclear when the framework will go into effect. This isn’t the first time India has tried to regulate spam calls. In fact, it identified the issue of unwanted calls and messages as early as 2007. Last year, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/telecom/telecom-policy/new-pesky-calls-texts-rules-to-allow-consumers-take-better-control-trais-sharma/articleshow/64372200.cms">proposed</a> rules allowing consumers to choose a specific time to receive text messages. In addition, it also launched <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/info-tech/trai-launches-dnd-mycall-apps-on-umang-platform/article24622703.ece">launched</a> the Do-Not-Disturb app to report unwanted calls and messages. However, these policies have had limited success thus far. In fact, the existing regulation <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/telecom/telecom-policy/new-trai-pesky-calls-norms-wont-help-say-consumers-body/articleshow/65074990.cms?from=mdr">isn’t likely to make an impact</a> because of the unfriendly user app, Hemant Upadhyay, advisor (telecom &amp; IT) at Consumer Voice told Economic Times citing consumer group. The effectiveness of the DND app has also been called into question. India has over a billion mobile users, a figure <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/tech/india-s-mobile-subscriber-base-to-touch-1-42-billion-by-2024-80-to-use-4g/story-TAPIFZLEzYqEbeaqmAWnXP.html">expected</a> to grow to 1.42 billion by 2024, reported Hindustan Times citing Ericsson Mobility Report.
