Matific, an e-learning platform is now making its foray into India, with its home product — Matific Galaxy. And it is perfect to teach mathematics to school students under lockdown. “Given the current environment, schools are going online around the world as they send students home with no timeline for return. Matific’s solutions enable students to continue their learning process. Matific Galaxy is offering online gamified Maths resources and engaging activities that promote conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills for kids from Nursery to Grade 6,” said Vibha Mahajan, VP, Matific India. <div type="image" title="kid" msid="75157006" hostid="261"></div> Matific caters to primary students up to 6th grade. The content and activities on the platform have been mapped with the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) and ICSE (Indian School Certificate Examination) board curriculums to offer solutions to maths problems. The homeschooling solution has been prepared by mathematics professors and curriculum experts. “Matific Galaxy is backed by extensive research and designed by senior mathematics professors and curriculum experts, making it the most comprehensive online mathematics resource,” Mahajan added. Focussed on homeschooling, the programme allows parents to access a child's achievements and progress in mathematics. The edtech company claims to have improved the student results by over a third (34%). “Matific has several games and stimulating maths activities, each of which is equally gripping so that kids end up playing for hours, and learning maths in a process of self-guided discovery. Playful interactions, colourful characters, and gamification help ease math anxiety and boost math confidence amongst students,” the company said. Australian elearning platform Matific to teach students below Grade 6 maths via games in India

And, I remember I wrote in my essay that they should start teaching science from Class 5 and not Class 7 or 8 because, otherwise, in the competitive exams we are at a disadvantage. And, believe it or not, the school accepted it," she told Business Insider. Women in India who have been conferred with the Padma Shri award usually come from the fields of art and music, medicine, health, and social work. However, Godbole is a rare case where the work of a woman from science has been recognised. I grew up in what one would call a typical middle-class family. But, they had always set a very high value on education. And, I grew up in Pune, which is in Maharashtra. It used to be called — at least once upon a time — the Oxbridge of India. So, it's a city well-known for its education. I studied in an all-girls school, which was perhaps the first English high school that was also a girls’ high school founded in Maharashtra — perhaps even in India. We were never taught general science, till 7th class. We were only taught home science. And, in 7th grade there used to be a scholarship called the State Merit Scholarship examination in which there used to be one paper on general science. Since I used to be pretty good in mathematics, my teachers actually took the trouble of working after hours with me. And that's when I started learning science. In fact, at the time, one of my class teacher’s husband — who was a science teacher — offered that I could talk to him in the evenings at his home, and he introduced me to many things outside the books in science. He taught me to read science magazines, and then I started taking part in science essay competitions because of him. This is how my science interest began. How does it feel to be among one of the few dozen women said this to win international accolade and recognition in the scientific field? OK, you know, I really wish people would stop thinking of us women scientists as women scientists. We happen to be scientists who happen to be women. But, I really look forward to the day when one is not slotted as a woman scientist. This is just my feeling and hope that I'm trying to express. But yes, I think I'm quite happy. Of course, I'm happy on a personal level. You don't do research for getting recognition. You do research for the joy of it. ... I think women getting these awards does have an additional plus side to it. It tells young girls that there is nothing special about it. That no, gender does not, and cannot play a role in it. A man and a woman can equally really get the honour. And, to me, that is actually one of the very best things that happens when women get awards. Why don't you tell us a little bit about your field of study? That's a question dear to my heart because that's what I've been doing for the last 50 years. Firstly doing it, then teaching it and finally doing research in it. The general subject that I'm working on is what we can call particle physics. And, the other word for the same subject is high energy physics. ... This is really kind of a study of what are the most fundamental constituents of nature and how those constituents are put together. The subject is somehow very interesting and very difficult to unravel at the same time because it's like completing a puzzle made out of Lego pieces. You want to understand what is the size and shape of the different Lego pieces which make the whole. And we're not allowed to take things apart, right? That is, to some extent, the nature of the work. ... The point is that efforts that have gone on trying to understand this have given us, for example, lasers, the Internet as well as semiconductors. Therefore, this kind of journey is at the heart of all matter. It has been going on for centuries, actually, almost two centuries. It has produced byproducts for our technology just because some of the things people have investigated, they have done it just for the heck of it. Then, what is the one piece of advice or word of caution that you would like to share with girls aspiring to join the scientific community? There is no word of caution. I mean frankly, I think whether you are studying science arts, or commerce, gender is not an issue — ever. Your gender cannot play a role in this. What plays a role is your intellectual abilities and your interest. There is nothing special about studying science compared to studying history. Each has its value. Each has its interest. And, one should just follow one's own mind. That is the one piece of advice I would give — that follow your own mind. Don't let others tell you whether maths is not for you or physics is not for you. A victory over Afghanistan paired with a loss to Namibia would see them relying on both India and Namibia's results and NRR. A win over Namibia and then a defeat to Afghanistan would also see it come down to NRR, with three teams potentially level on six points after five matches. Afghanistan have the edge currently over New Zealand on NRR, and India have the advantage of playing the last game in the group so would know exactly the permutations involved. However, Afghanistan's heavy defeat to India on Wednesday night has made their position in Group 2 far less stable. They now must beat New Zealand in their final group game to qualify, and even then a victory in that match may not be sufficient, although they do still have the best NRR in the group. Lose to New Zealand and they are certainly out. If the next set of Group 2 results go to form and New Zealand beat Namibia and India beat Scotland, then it will all come down to NRR if Afghanistan beat the Black Caps on Sunday. The NRR permutations on the final day are not yet clear, but it could be the case that India play Namibia in the final game of the Super 12 stage knowing exactly what they need to do in order to finish in second place in the group. It would also come down to NRR if Afghanistan beat New Zealand and Namibia manage victories over the Black Caps and India. In short: Victory over New Zealand could be enough for Afghanistan, but NRR is still vital Mathematically, Namibia are still in contention for the lone qualification spot from this group. "The pace of skills transformation is slower than the pace of digital transformation in India, as is the case in several countries across the world," Coursera's Managing Director, India and <keyword id="156416" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="APAC">APAC</keyword>, <keyword id="3472273" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Raghav-Gupta">Raghav Gupta</keyword>, said in a statement. "Learners must invest in both soft and technical skills to prepare for jobs of the future," he added. According to the report, Indians have 52 per cent proficiency in ML and 54 per cent in mathematical skills. However, there is significant room for improvement in two key skills for digital transformation -- <keyword id="429467" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="data-analysis">Data Analysis</keyword> and Statistical Programming, ranked only at 25 per cent and 15 per cent skills proficiency, respectively. The report said that, as the demand for data scientists outstrips supply worldwide, India is also grappling with a shortage of data science professionals. India also shows evidence of evolving gender dynamics as women adopt online learning at one of the fastest pace globally, the report said. The share of overall Coursera course enrollments as well as in STEM courses from women learners in India saw an unprecedented increase, it added. The study draws on performance data since the onset of the pandemic from more than 77 million learners on the platform to benchmark skills proficiency across the business, technology, and data science for over 100 countries.
