While the company’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 performed decently, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 failed to match its predecessor’s sales. The company recorded a 21% year-on-year decline in shipments. Huawei has emerged second, with a 15% market share in Q3 2024, up from a 13% market share in Q3 2023. The company recorded a 23% year-on-year growth in shipments. Honor and Motorola take the third and fourth spots, with a 10% and a 7% market share respectively. Both companies have recorded good growth. While Honor has recorded a 121% year-on-year growth, Motorola has recorded a 164% year-on-year growth. Xiaomi is in the fifth position, with a 6% market share. The company recorded the highest year-on-year growth at 185%. This growth was driven by the Mix Flip, the company’s first clamshell smartphone. Global foldable phone shipments decline in Q3 2024, Samsung leads with 56% market share

<ul><li>According to Google’s statistics for <keyword id="351662" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ipv6" source="Orion">IPv6</keyword> adoption, India is currently in the lead globally.</li><li>It has achieved an <keyword id="11925088" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ipv6-adoption-rate" source="Orion">IPv6 adoption rate</keyword> of 61.23%.</li><li>IPv6 is the latest version of the Internet Protocol, and it will eventually succeed IPv4.</li></ul>More than half of India has migrated to IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6), the latest version of the Internet Protocol. India currently ranks the highest for IPv6 adoption globally, according to the <a href="https://www.google.com/intl/en/ipv6/statistics.html#tab=per-country-ipv6-adoption">latest statistics</a> collected by Google. India is leading with a 61.23% adoption rate of IPv6 so far, followed by Malaysia (54.76%) and French Guiana (52.34%). The IPv6 adoption rate has been seeing a steady increase currently hovering around 36% globally. India ranking the highest for IPv6 adoption means that here users experience very few issues when connecting to IPv6-enabled websites, according to the Google data. The government of India has been quite active in the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/enterprise/news/nixi-is-pushing-india-towards-wider-adoption-of-ipv6-to-fuel-digital-india/articleshow/82144714.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">adoption of IPv6 across the country</a>. It released the first roadmap of IPv6 adoption back in 2010 which required all major services providers to offer IPv6 services, and also state and central government departments to upgrade to IPv6. It later <a href="https://dot.gov.in/sites/default/files/2016_11_18%20IPv6%20NT.pdf">released</a> a second version of the IPv6 roadmap in 2013 which focused on the futuristic roles of IPv6, and a phased transition from IPv4 to IPv6. It has also made revisions to the timelines for IPv6 adoption among the important stakeholders. What is IPv6? IPv6 is the more advanced version of the Internet Protocol which will eventually replace IPv4. Every device connected to the internet requires its own IP address to communicate with other devices. IPv6 is the sixth revision of the Internet Protocol and it was created in 1998. Why the transition from IPv6 to IPv4? The main reason behind moving from IPv4 to IPv6 is the lack of addresses the former supports. IPv4 uses a 32-bit addressing system that currently supports around 4.3 billion addresses which is clearly not enough given the number of devices and internet users growing around the world. This is where IPv6 comes in as it uses a 128-bit addressing system which makes it possible to support more devices. In numbers, IPv6 can support up to 340 trillion trillion devices which is 2 to the 128th power for math geeks. The difference between IPv4 and IPv6 can be seen in the numbering system. IPv4 uses four sets of one to three-digit numbers (152.17.234.1) whereas IPv6 uses eight groups of four hexadecimal digits (2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334) that are separated by colons. IPv6 comes with more benefits over IPv4 such as better performance, auto configuration of devices and increased security. India continues to lead in IPv6 expansion with a 61.23% adoption rate globally

More than 40 per cent of <keyword id="20081234" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="consumers" source="keywords">consumers</keyword> in Tier 3 to 6 cities use <keyword id="19994585" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-payment" source="keywords">digital payment</keyword> on a daily basis, while 45 per cent claimed to use it once in two days, a new survey report has said. "This reflects the frequent usage of <keyword id="6358577" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-payments" source="Orion">digital payments</keyword> by consumers, even in Tier 3 to 6 locations of the country," said a report by Chase India on The State of Digital Payments in India. The report identifies the key challenges faced by <keyword id="20442209" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="merchants" source="keywords">merchants</keyword> and consumers in the adoption of digital payment services at the grassroots level. According to the report, nearly half of the merchants who are not using digital payments in rural India are unaware of the service. In contrast, a staggering 94 per cent of consumers who are not using digital payments are aware of it but still don't use it, as they face issues like lack of internet connectivity, limited knowledge, mistrust in online payments and service-related problems. The report added that around 74 per cent of consumers claimed to be using digital payment services for a transaction a family member made. The report said around 41 per cent of merchants claimed to receive less than 25 per cent of their sales through digital payments, around 15 per cent of merchants claimed to receive over 50 per cent of their sales through digital payments. "This shows the potential left to be tapped with respect to increasing the usage of digital payments at the grassroots level," the report said. A total of 2,240 respondents were surveyed for the report, including 1,184 consumers and 1,056 merchants, spread across 16 districts, covering eight states in different geographic zones of the country. The report also said that lack of awareness about digital payments was a crucial finding. Around 46 per cent of merchants had never used digital payments because they were unaware of it. The survey revealed that, on average, around 36 per cent of merchants claimed to be processing over 50 digital payment transactions every month. Also, around 23 per cent of merchants claimed to be processing not more than 1 digital payment transaction every alternate day. Most merchants process digital payment transactions of less than Rs 15,000 every month. Only a handful of merchants claimed to process digital payments of over Rs 1 lakh. The main challenges that hinder the adoption of digital payments were inadequate infrastructure, service-related issues, capacity constraints and lack of trust in digital Payments, it said. "KYC is a vital step in onboarding merchants for using digital payments services. However, the survey discovered that nearly one in three merchants faced difficulties in completing the KYC process due to a lack of requisite documents, capacity constraints and the time taken for onboarding, among other reasons," the report said. Over 40% consumers use digital payment every day in Tier 3-6 cities: Report

India should continue investing in research and development activities to contribute to the advancement of <keyword id="6319489" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="6g-technology" source="Orion">6G technology</keyword> - to strengthen the global knowledge base and help shape the future of this technology, according to the report by KPMG in India, in association with India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2023. India should continue playing an active role in establishing global standards for 6G technology by leveraging its manufacturing capabilities to produce and export <keyword id="19290619" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="6g-equipment" source="Orion">6G equipment</keyword> to other countries, the report added. "India's forward-looking 6G vision document has positioned its digital prowess on the global technology forefront," said Yezdi Nagporewalla, CEO, KPMG in India. Furthermore, India's population dividend and technological progress give it a tremendous advantage and can help the country achieve its goal of becoming a dependable global digital leader with cooperative action on <keyword id="6372493" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-literacy" source="Orion">digital literacy</keyword>, <keyword id="6361948" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cybersecurity" source="Orion">cybersecurity</keyword>, new technologies, and export promotion, Nagporewalla added. India is focusing on development and adoption of cutting-edge technologies across 5G/6G, Satellite Communication (SatCom), and semiconductors. KPMG estimates these three technologies to collectively add approximately $240 billion to the nation's economy in the next five years and estimates it to contribute an additional 1.6 per cent to the national GDP by FY2028. Recognising the potential in the semiconductor space, the government is working aggressively to enable India to be at the centre stage of the global semiconductor supply chain and is offering some of the most attractive incentives globally. In total, India is offering $30 billion in support for semiconductors and related industries. "The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector's robust growth trajectory indicates, major industry players looking to address the needs of this customer base have also found the opportunity to be global suppliers, supported by the government's thrust on conducive policy and enabling infrastructure," said P Ramakrishna, CEO, India Mobile Congress.

Finding mentorship and the right guidance was a challenge, too.Everyone around Hassan told him that going to the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/resume-tips-google-software-engineer-skills-experience-careers-software-tech-2024-3">US for a master's degree</a> was the next big opportunity. He has since launched two startups.Hassan is part of a group of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/i-moved-back-to-india-after-living-abroad-for-decade-2024-9">expat Indians moving back</a> home to venture out on their own. As such, he's also part of a decades-long trend of reverse migration back to India.The trend began in the 1990s and picked up at the turn of the century, driven by the economic collapse in 2008, said Binod Khadria, the president of Global Research Forum on Diaspora and Transnationalism. Many of those who returned to India for work were largely working for multinational companies.Today, the impetus for the move often looks a bit different: It's driven by factors like unstable visa policies and economic recessions, which lead to uncertainty when it comes to jobs and duration of stay in these destinations.Many returnees find work in tech, but the finance, retail, and climate sectors also absorb a large number of expat Indians, Khadia said. And some of the returnees are heading back to India to start companies of their own.India is undergoing a startup explosion. The country reported over<a target="_blank" href="https://pib.gov.in/PressReleaseIframePage.aspx?PRID=2043805"> 140,800 recognized startups</a> at the end of June — nearly 50,000 more than last year — and credited them with creating 1.6 million direct jobs.To be sure, not all of these companies will make it big — and some do still stumble, like <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://inc42.com/features/what-are-the-current-problems-being-faced-by-oyo/">Oyo </a>and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/blackrock-hsbc-funds-byjus-startup-valuation-zero-edtech-india-raveendran-2024-6">Byju's</a>. This makes inflation less of a challenge than it is for slower-growing peers, where consumer-focused businesses have been <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/economy-jobs-report-sentiment-consumers-elections-recession-inflation-mortgage-rates-2024-9">hurt by high prices</a>.Investors are getting in on the action.From 2015 to 2021, the number of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sequoia-capital-vc-firm-split-china-india-2023-6">unique investors in India</a> nearly quadrupled, though the number is tracking much lower this year, per PitchBook."Other than a slight downturn in 2022 and 2023 due to global macroeconomic factors, VC funding has been consistently growing in India," said Ben Mathias, a managing partner at Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia &amp; India.Besides funding, domestic developments have encouraged founders and VCs too, Mathias said.The Indian government's Universal Payment Interface system has spurred consumers and businesses to pay online, and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.bcg.com/press/2june2022-digital-payments-in-india-projected-to-reach-10-trillion-by-2026">40% of all digital payments</a> globally happen in India today, the partner said.Programs like Startup India, which provides founders benefits like tax exemption, easier compliance, and funding support, have made creating a company smoother.Devyani Parameshwar worked in the microfinance and fintech space in India in the 2010s before heading to the UK and Africa. She returned to India in 2022 to launch a financial management venture."It's changed dramatically. I remember standing in line at various ministries in Delhi trying to get meetings and then trying to get answers and it wasn't easy in the past," she said of her memories of India.Now, she can use an online platform to ask the country's central bank and banking regulator questions.It's easier than ever for foreign companies to invest in India, which means startups have a clearer exit path through acquisition — something VCs think hard about before entering new markets or writing checks.<h2 id="e5dd7b6f-a09f-4ff2-84c1-5907de96dc5e">Market ripe for the taking</h2>For Rohan Bhide, who spent most of his college and professional life <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/worked-in-big-tech-before-launching-my-own-startup-engineer-2024-9">preparing to launch something of his own</a>, a trip home in 2017 while he was studying in the US was a turning point.Indian telecom giant Reliance had recently launched a cheap unlimited data plan, which spiked Indian internet adoption. India was charting among the countries with the highest online transactions."That really, really drew my attention," said Bhide, who worked at Meta after graduation. "It was my dream come true — a huge market, a huge user base, and at the same time, the ability to adopt technology was incredible."Bhide returned to India in January, leaving behind about $580,000 in total compensation at ticketing platform StubHub. There are people "telling you about their entire lives just because they want to help you and they're hoping that you pass the favor onto the next person who moves to India and wants to start their own company."<h2 id="3c8bff36-e855-4530-9b44-bcc7f36b0825">Not everything is perfect</h2>Although these founders made the decision to return to India, that doesn't mean they no longer see the benefits of operating in the US.Ruchit Garg founded an agriculture startup in Silicon Valley in 2016, with a focus on supporting farmers around the globe. In 2019, he returned to India, where his late grandfather worked as a farmer.Garg has been building in India ever since, but he says its startup ecosystem cannot yet compete with the Valley's decades of experience."The overall ecosystem was more mature back in Silicon Valley. It's still one of the best places for entrepreneurs. India isn't there yet, although it's growing pretty drastically," he said.Despite efforts to digitalize key processes, many bureaucratic challenges persist.For most founders, after living in US cities where populations are a fraction of those in Mumbai and Bangalore, congested roads and poorer air quality are also everyday annoyances.But India provides some big perks, including affordable domestic help and the appeal of building solutions for problems they witness firsthand."It's a different joy to be able to build for problems that you feel for very personally," Parameshwar, the fintech founder, said. When she worked in Africa, she needed translators. Now, she can speak with her users herself.Bhide said the general sentiment among local founders is shifting from "Build from India" to "Build for India."For some founders, being surrounded by family and the culture they grew up in was another selling point.Niranjan Vemulkar moved back to India in 2015 and later founded a digital legacy planning platform.He said that he never fully felt at home in the US, where he lived for over a decade."For us, it was the fact that we wanted to raise a family in an environment where the children would have access to the grandparents and Indian culture," Vemulkar said. India is promoting a new internet protocol⁠— the government is offering help for websites to migrate

Mumbai, India's real <keyword id="44910" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gdp-growth" source="Orion">GDP growth</keyword> will moderate to 6.5 per cent in FY25, mainly due to global headwinds, <keyword id="6355975" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="axis-bank" source="Orion">Axis Bank</keyword>'s chief economist <keyword id="926117" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="neelkanth-mishra" source="Orion">Neelkanth Mishra</keyword> said on Monday. India's GDP is 7 per cent lower than what it would have been if the pre-pandemic GDP growth trend had continued, Mishra added. It can be noted that last Friday, the Reserve Bank sharply upped its FY24 growth estimate to 7 per cent from the earlier 6.5 per cent. Mishra also pegged the FY24 growth at 7 per cent with upside risks. For FY25, he expects a moderation in the real GDP growth to 6.5 per cent, Mishra said, attributing the same to an intensification of global headwinds in the near future. He said the <keyword id="4644154" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-activity" source="Orion">domestic activity</keyword> is resilient, and the global growth is already proving to be a drag, and added that the same is likely to worsen going ahead. Mishra explained that in the US, the largest economy in the world, the growth is being boosted by fiscal deficit and predicted the long-feared recession to be a reality. "Recession in the US is delayed, not deferred," he said, terming the situation around the fiscal deficit in the US as his biggest concern. The chief economist said he is alarmed by the lack of discussion on this critical aspect, stating that the US fiscal challenges are underappreciated. The US has adopted a pro-cyclical policy stance rather than being the more prudent counter-cyclical one adopted by countries like India, Mishra said. The world has to get used to the "policy inversion" in the US, and the scarcity in dollars, Mishra said, adding that the latter will impact even a country like India. He said while India could easily fund USD 70 billion of a current account deficit, funding even USD 30-40 billion will now get hard. The general elections in India will not lead to much of a change in the policy direction, Mishra said, adding that if he were a corporate, he would decide to start investing soonest because of the demand. He pointed to power generation - coal-based and renewable - as one of the investment areas and added that capital expenditure is already happening in many areas. The Reserve Bank is unlikely to cut its repo rate through 2024 on the volatile food inflation, he said, adding that the headline number will cool down in the year. The government is likely to cut the fiscal deficit by 0.70 per cent each in FY25 and FY26 to meet its stated target of getting the number down to 4.5 per cent, he noted. Foreign rating agencies are unlikely to upgrade the country's rating even if the fiscal gap narrows, he said, adding that there is a need for a lowering in the high debt-to-GDP ratio.

In January this year, Roh termed India as one of Samsung's important manufacturing bases and said that the Korean electronics major will start manufacturing laptops this year at its Noida facility. "We are also working closely with component partners in the Indian market to strengthen infrastructure and supply chain. We have done so, and we will continue to do so going forward," Roh said. At Samsung Unpacked 2024, the tech giant expanded its wearables portfolio with the launch of Galaxy Ring, a health and wellness wearable device powered by Galaxy AI. It also unveiled its sixth generation foldable smartphones Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, along with Galaxy Buds3 and Galaxy Buds3 Pro. Both Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 are manufactured at the Noida facility. "The Indian market is one of the markets where the foldable range is growing exponentially, and at the centre lies Galaxy foldables. "Particularly, making health AI possible on our new products like watches and foldables, the contribution and efforts of Indian R&amp;D centres were immense," Roh said. He further said that the company expects the market demand to grow this year and has high expectations around Indian customers and consumers adopting the new foldable range with the incorporation of optimised Galaxy AI. "We will come closer to the consumers through diverse initiatives like first-hand experience programmes, game-related promotional activities, and Olympic sponsorship-related activities as well," he said. On the monetisation of AI services, Roh said mobile AI technologies and their usage patterns are progressing at such a speed that it would be too premature to comment on how it could be monetised. "I believe monetisation-related decisions should be and will be made based on a comprehensive review of the customer voice and customer needs, market demands, market needs, and technological trends and changes," he said.
