This multi-domain simulator supports unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), serving as an excellent development tool for agencies working on autonomous systems. Another Pune-based defence equipment startup, ChiStats Labs Private Limited, is developing virtual sensors for aero gas turbine engine health monitoring, which helps to increase the operational reliability and longevity of the engines. The system is built on modern artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) technologies. Bengaluru-based NewSpace Research and Technologies Pvt. Ltd., under the project titled 'Autonomous Drone as First Responder for Search and Report Operations in Enclosed/Indoor Environments', has created a cutting-edge UAV capable of exploring indoor environments under various conditions, including zero light. The success of this project will open up various applications, including search and rescue operations, surveillance, industrial inspections, environmental monitoring, and hazardous environment exploration, contributing significantly to technological advancements in unmanned aerial systems, the Ministry added. The technology has been developed under the technical guidance and mentorship of CAIR, Bengaluru.

The <keyword id="6354458" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US" source="Orion">US</keyword> House of Representatives has passed by voice vote a legislative amendment that approves waiver to <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="INDIA" source="Orion">India</keyword> against the punitive <keyword id="6191318" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CAATSA" source="Orion">CAATSA</keyword> sanctions for its purchase of the <keyword id="3094666" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="S-400" source="Orion">S-400</keyword> missile <keyword id="42530" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="DEFENCE-SYSTEM" source="Orion">defence system</keyword> from <keyword id="6358826" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RUSSIA" source="Orion">Russia</keyword> to help deter aggressors like China. The legislative amendment was passed on Thursday as part of an en bloc (all together as a single unit) amendment during floor consideration of the National Defence Authorisation Act (NDAA). Authored and introduced by Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna, the amendment urges the Biden administration to use its authority to provide India with a Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) waiver to help deter aggressors like China. CAATSA is a tough US law that authorises the US administration to impose sanctions on countries that purchase major defence hardware from Russia in response to Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and its alleged meddling in the 2016 US presidential elections. "The United States must stand with India in the face of escalating aggression from China. As Vice Chair of the India Caucus, I have been working to strengthen the partnership between our countries and ensure that India can defend itself along the Indian Chinese border," said Khanna, the US representative from California's 17th congressional district. "This amendment is of the utmost importance, and I am proud to see it pass the House on a bipartisan basis," he said. The law was brought in 2017 and provides for punitive actions by the US government against any country engaged in transactions with the Russian defence and intelligence sectors. In October 2018, India signed a USD 5 billion deal with Russia to buy five units of the S-400 air defence missile systems, despite a warning from the then-Trump administration that going ahead with the contract may invite US sanctions. The S-400 is known as Russia's most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile defence system.The US has already imposed sanctions on Turkey under the CAATSA for the purchase of a batch of S-400 missile defence systems from Russia. Following the US sanctions on Turkey over the procurement of S-400 missile systems, there were apprehensions that Washington may impose similar punitive measures on India. The US has not yet made any decision on potential sanctions or waivers to India under CATSAA law for its purchase of the S-400 missile defence system from Russia, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in April. The Ministry of External Affairs has said that India was pursuing an independent foreign policy and its defence acquisitions are guided by its national security interests. In his remarks on the House floor, Khanna said there is no relationship of greater significance to US strategic interests than the US-India partnership. "My bipartisan NDAA amendment marks the most significant piece of legislation for US-India relations out of Congress since the US-India nuclear deal," Khanna, a Democrat, said. The legislation says that the United States-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (ICET) is a welcome and essential step to developing closer partnerships between governments, academia, and industry in the two countries to address the latest advances in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, biotechnology, aerospace, and semiconductor manufacturing. Such collaborations between engineers and computer scientists are vital to help ensure that the United States and India, as well as other democracies around the world, foster innovation and facilitate technological advances which continue to far outpace Russian and Chinese technology, it said. US waives sanctions, India can now purchase S-400 missile defence system from Russia

The private industry will also be encouraged to design and develop military platforms and equipment in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and other organisations through the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) model. “An independent umbrella body will be set up for meeting wide ranging testing and certification requirements,” explained Sitharaman on how the collaboration will play out. She highlighted technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), geospatial systems, drones, semiconductors and its ecosystem, space economy, genomics and pharmaceutical, and clean mobility systems as areas of focus. “[They] have immense potential to assist sustainable development at scale and modernise the country,” said Sitharaman.

India will be picking up AI-enabled military tech from South Korea at the DefExpo 2020

The all-weather radar imaging satellite is capable of taking sharp images from outer space even when it’s cloudy on Earth. The Indian Space Research Organisation (<a href="https://www.isro.gov.in/pslv-c48-risat-2br1/launch-kit-glance">ISRO</a>) claims that the satellite’s primary applications are agriculture, forestry and disaster management support. To be fair, that was the original intent of the RISAT series. But, after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, the RISAT 2 launch was fast-tracked over the RISAT 1 satellite for only <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/India-to-launch-spy-satellite-on-April-20/articleshow/4374544.cms?referral=PM">one reason</a> — its X-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). According to the manufacturer of the radar, Israel Aerospace Industries (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=8&amp;v=rHMfViorO1c&amp;feature=emb_logo">IAI</a>), the sensor’s main application is “defence intelligence” and “homeland defence”. The <a href="https://space.skyrocket.de/doc_sdat/risat-2b.htm">same radar</a> will be used by RISAT-2BR1, except this time, India’s built it at home. Keeping an eye on national borders The X-Band SAR’s capabilities of the RISAT-2BR1 can click images regardless of the weather — or the time of the day — cutting through clouds and darkness. Once it’s successfully placed in orbit, the satellite can send back high-resolution images focused on a specific area, or covering hundreds of kilometres. Combining electronic scans with mechanical manoeuvring, the satellite can be used to provide wide-area coverage without losing details. It has been designed to monitor India’s borders and flag any infiltration or terrorist operations for the next five years. ISRO plans to launch the satellite from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota tomorrow. The RISAT-2BR1 will be launched along with nine international satellites marking the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle’s (PSLV) 50th launch. The satellite weighs a little more than 600 kilograms and will be placed into orbit at a distance of 576 kilometers. Jio claims to be generating nearly 4 to 5 petabytes of data every day from its user base of over <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/mukesh-ambanis-reliance-jio-beats-airtel-to-be-indias-second-biggest-telecom-network/articleshow/70291841.cms">300 million subscribers</a>. That's enough to fill up more than 22 million CD ROMs. Back in 2014, this is was the same amount of data that <a href="https://research.fb.com/blog/2014/10/facebook-s-top-open-data-problems/">Facebook</a> was also processing on a daily basis. Jio hopes that by using AI it will be able to have a more real-time picture of its user's experiences and gain key marketing insights to beat out the competition — Vodafone Idea and Airtel. "If this data can be properly analyzed in real-time using big data analytics and predictive analytics techniques, we can both improve the health of our network through intelligent automation and offer multiple, customized personal services to our customers," stated Anish Shah, President of IT at Reliance Jio. Data set to grow As of now, the data flowing to Jio from Indian users is more-or-less restricted to its telecom network. DRDO has developed a facial recognition system that claims to see through masks and disguise

<ul><li>India and the US have signed a new landmark defence pact called the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA).</li><li>It allows the US to share satellite and other surveillance data to improve Indian navigation and targeting capabilities.</li><li>This will improve the accuracy of India’s automated hardware systems and weapons like cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones. </li></ul>India and the US have added another layer to the military cooperation between them by signing the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA) amid the 2+2 ministerial talks happening in Delhi today. Defence ministry’s Additional Secretary Jivesh Nandan signed the agreement on behalf of India. BECA is essentially an agreement between the US’ National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and India’s Ministry of Defence to share military information. This includes maps, nautical charts, aeronautical charts, unclassified imagery, and other types of data. Within the agreement, there is a provision that allows for the sharing of classified information and the proper safeguards in place to ensure that the same information isn’t shared with any third parties. India signs landmark military pact with the US to make its drones and missiles more accurate

<ul><li>The perception of LAC is different for both India and China, India’s <keyword id="7706628" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="defence-minister-rajnath-singh">Defence Minister Rajnath Singh</keyword> told the Parliament today.</li><li>He accused China of violating the 1993 and 1996 agreement between the two countries by increasing the number of troops and weaponry along the border. </li><li>“Chinese forces have been engaging in violent conduct,” he said.</li></ul>Addressing the Monsoon session of Parliament, India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh asserted that the <keyword id="7905649" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="border-issue-with-china">border issue with China</keyword> remains unresolved as of now. “The question of China’s boundary in its customary and traditional alignment is not agreed upon by China,” he said. While India believes the alignment is well-established and goes back to historical usage of the routes and practices, China’s perception of the Line of Actual Control (LAC)differs, according to Singh. China currently lays claim to around 38,000 square kilometers of territory that overlaps with India’s assertions in Ladakh and nearly 90,000 square kilometres in Arunachal Pradesh. “Around 5,130 square kilometers of Indian territory in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) has also been handed over China by Pakistan,” added Singh. It’s due to this challenging situation that India and China need to resolve the border dispute through peaceful negotiations, according to him. “Any disruption of peace and tranquility along the border will have an effect on the bilateral relations between the two countries,” he said. Rajnath Singh accuses China of violating border agreements China has been building up troops along LAC friction points — like eastern Ladakh, Gogra, Kongka La, Pangong Lake's north and south banks — which violates the treaties signed between India and China in 1993 and 1996, according to Singh. The agreements stipulate that the countries will keep their troop deployment to a minimum along the LAC. Until the border issue is not resolved bilaterally, both sides will strictly adhere to and respect the boundaries established. “Chinese forces have been engaging in violent conduct. The India side bore losses but also gave a fitting reply to the Chinese side. </li><li>During de-escalation talks, China was engaged in proactive movements along the border in August along Pangong Tso lake. </li><li>Our armed troops thwarted the attempt.</li></ul>India's stand on the border tensions with China Singh revealed that the government has a time-tested and elaborate mechanism for its various intelligence agencies to coordinate. He assured the other Members of Parliament (MPs) that the Indian troops are “ready to deal with any situation.” According to him, the 5-point plan agreed upon by India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Moscow will be successful, provided China remains faithful in its promise to adhere to the terms set out. “The government will remain committed to this cause in the coming day. We are committed to resolving it peacefully,” he said. “Tents, sweaters, and other supplies have been provided by the government to the armed forces so that Indian troops will be able to continue fighting for the country in terrains where oxygen is sparse, and they have to sub-zero temperatures,” the Defence Minister added.
