PM Narendra Modi released the <keyword id="123247" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="commemorative-coins">commemorative coins</keyword> of Rs 150 denomination to celebrate Mahatma Gandhiji’s 150th birthday. The event took place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on October 2, 2019 when the Prime Minister reached the Sabarmati Riverfront to participate in the proceedings of the Swacch Bharat Divas program. The event at Ahmedabad Dropping in at the Sabarmati Ashram, the holy seat from where the father of the nation launched most of his freedom fight related activities, Narendra Modi wrote in the visitor’s book, "I'm satisfied that on the occasion of #GandhiAt150, we're witnessing the fulfillment of his dream of 'Swachh Bharat'. I feel lucky that on this occasion when India has successfully stopped open defecation." During the occasion, Narendra Modi addressed 10,000 sarpanchs. He declared India ‘open defecation free’. The event also saw announcements about the war against plastic and the success of the Swach Bharat Mission.

A new 5 pound coin to commemorate the life and legacy of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled by Chancellor Rishi Sunak to mark the Hindu festival of Diwali. Available in a range of standards, including gold and silver, the special collectors' coin was designed by Heena Glover and features an image of a lotus, India's national flower, alongside one of Gandhi's most famous quotes -- "My life is my message". Building on the enduring relationship and cultural connections between the UK and India, it is the first time that Gandhi has been commemorated on an official UK coin with the final design chosen by Sunak, who is the Master of the Mint. "This coin is a fitting tribute to an influential leader who inspired millions of people around the world," he said. "As a practicing Hindu, I am proud to unveil this coin during Diwali. Mahatma Gandhi was instrumental in the movement for Indian independence and it is fantastic to have a UK coin commemorating his remarkable life for the first time." The coin, which goes on sale, is part of the Royal Mint's wider Diwali collection, which includes 1g and 5g gold bars in henna-style packaging, and the UK's first gold bar depicting Lakshmi -- the Hindu Goddess of wealth. The 20g gold Lakshmi bar was designed in partnership with the Hindu community in South Wales, where the Royal Mint is based. The Mint will join the celebrations at the Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Cardiff, where worshippers will offer prayers to goddess Lakshmi and lord Ganesha for the coming year. Around 10 million of the coins, which recognise and celebrate Britain's diverse history, went into circulation in October 2020. New Delhi, Feb 25 () The government has got Rs 293 crore from buyback of shares by state-run Security Printing and Minting Corporation. In a tweet, Secretary DIPAM said, "DIPAM (Department of Investment and Public Asset Management) today completed another transaction. Buyback of about 7.67 crore shares by Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India yielded about Rs 293.45 cr to the Government". With this, the disinvestment proceeds in current fiscal touched Rs 35,138 crore. In the Revised Estimates, the government has pegged disinvestment target at Rs 65,000 crore. Security Printing &amp; Minting Corporation of India Ltd (SPMCIL) is a wholly-owned government company under the administrative control of Department of Economic Affairs.
