These robots will help deliver food and medicines to Coronavirus infected patients under quarantine — reducing the level of direct contact with medical workers.

 The robots built by Propeller Technologies have cameras and wireless connectivity. So, even if a medical worker isn’t physically present — the patient will still be able to interact with a real person, just without the added risk. All a person needs to operate them is a mobile phone and Android controller. Meet the robots Two prototypes, dubbed ‘Zafi’ and ‘Zafi Med’ were tested at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital on Sunday, March 29, according to the <a href="https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/tamil-nadu/2020/mar/29/tiruchy-gh-may-soon-have-robots-to-reach-out-to-patients-in-coronavirus-isolation-ward-2123088.html">New Indian Express</a>. Zafi was created in 2019, however, Zafi Med only came into existence a couple of days ago. Both are similar in size and shape at 4 feet tall, but the original was modified to cater to the need of medical workers during the Coronavirus outbreak.

 Zafi can only be operated from a distance of 250 meters and lift up to 8 kilos, whereas Zafi Med can be operated from as much as 1.5 kilometers away and lift upto 20 kilos. The only way that Zafi Med falls short of Zafi is that it does not have wireless talking.

 Reports indicate that the robots will have sensors to ring the bell once they’re outside a patient’s room. Right now, the district administration is yet to approve their use in the hospital. According to ANI, four robots are ready to deploy as soon as the measure is rubber stamped. They will be connected to the nurses and doctors stations in the hospital. Using contactless delivery can reduce the risk of infection to medical workers and reduce the burden on the already-limited medical supplies. It also helps lower the stress on nurses and doctors who are working overtime during the Coronavirus outbreak. Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu The numbers of Coronavirus infections in Tamil Nadu have crossed 50 with one death and five recoveries. According to Health Minister C Vijayabaskar, there are 13,323 beds present in isolation wards and over 3,000 ventilators available in the state. Others in the state — like a textile store owner in Madurai’s Nadaraj Nagar who manufactured 8,000 masks and distributed them to needy — are stepping up to address the pandemic.

Officially called T-1 but nicknamed Avni, the mammal has already killed 13 people in the town of Pandharkawada. It's been two years that that she's been eluding the park authorities <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-45819780" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">according to the BBC</a>. The plan is to track her down using a popular cologne manufactured by Calvin Klein, Obsession for Men. The science is simple. The cologne exudes a pheromone called civetone which is basically a chemical substance produced by animals that affects the behaviour of other animals of its species. In this case, civetone is derived from a civet, a cat that is often confused for a monkey. It’s actually quite commonly used in other colognes as well. In the past, the similar experiment was conducted at the Bronx Zoo in New York where the cologne was appreciated by the zoo’s resident jaguars. Last resort The tigress and her two 9-month old cubs roam a 150 sq km <keyword id="6398165" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="jungle">jungle</keyword> that includes 5,000 inhabitants across 20 villages. And, they’ve been witness to 3 killings since August. In response, there have been a total of 100 camera traps set up, goats and horses have been used as bait and, as a last resort, sharpshooters have been sent to contain the mammal. So far, all efforts have proved futile. Animal activists are concerned that the authorities will end up shooting and killing the animal since the forest officials don’t possess the required expertise. AK Misra, a forest official in the region, told the BBC that their intention isn’t to shoot, but if the tiger attacks then they’ll have no option but to defend themselves. That being said, the supreme court of <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> already weighed in stating that it would not interfere if the animal was killed during capture. Right now, officials have a team of 500 men on board to capture the tiger include a number of vets who’ve been equipped with tranquiliser darts. Other tools at their disposal include three cages, nylon and a selection of machines. The unanswered question remains why is the tigress attacking humans the first place? While <keyword id="86410" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Deforestation">deforestation</keyword> has taken away from their habitat and tigers do come in with contact with humans, few are this aggressive. Indian authorities plan on using Calvin Klein’s Obsession to capture a tigress

Beijing, Jul 10 (AP) Two World Health Organisation experts will spend the next two days in the Chinese capital to lay the groundwork for a larger mission to investigate the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. One animal health expert and one epidemiologist during their visit will work to fix the "scope and terms of reference" for the future mission aimed at learning how the virus jumped from animals to humans, the statement from the United Nations body said. Scientists believe the virus may have originated in bats, then was transmitted through another mammal such such as a civet cat or an armadillo-like pangolin before being passed on to people at a fresh food market in the central Chinese city of Wuhan late last year. In an effort to block future outbreaks, China has cracked down on the trade in wildlife and closed some wet markets, while enforcing strict containment measures that appear to have virtually stopped new local infections. The WHO mission is politically sensitive, with the U.S. - the organisation's top funder - moving to cut ties with it over allegations it mishandled the outbreak and is biased toward China. More than 120 nations called for an investigation into the origins of the virus at the World Health Assembly in May. China has insisted that WHO lead the investigation and for it to wait until the pandemic is brought under control. (AP) The U.S., Brazil and India are continuing to see an increasing number of cases. The last WHO coronavirus-specific mission to China was in February, after which the team's leader, Canadian doctor Bruce Aylward, praised China's containment efforts and information-sharing. An Associated Press investigation showed that in January, WHO officials were privately frustrated over the lack of transparency and access in China, according to internal audio recordings. Complaints included that China delayed releasing the genetic map, or genome, of the virus for more than a week after three different government labs had fully decoded the information. Experts think that's because bats can fly across large geographical ranges, transporting diseases as they go. More than 11,000 people were killed between 2013 and 2016.<h2>How to prevent zoonotic diseases from spilling over into people</h2>At wet markets, the close proximity of shoppers to stall vendors and live and dead animals creates a prime breeding ground for zoonotic diseases.On Wednesday, authorities in Wuhan banned the trade of live animals at these markets. Officials closed the seafood market where the coronavirus outbreak is thought to have started on January 1. Experts support this type of intervention to help prevent the spread of viruses."Governments must recognize the global public-health threats of zoonotic diseases," Christian Walzer, executive director of the Wildlife Conservation Society's health program, said in a statement. Both of those viruses originated in <keyword id="92255" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Bats">bats</keyword>, and genetic research has all but confirmed the same for the new coronavirus — <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2012-7">a study</a> published in February found that it shares 96% of its genetic code with coronaviruses circulating in Chinese bat populations.However, lingering questions about exactly when and how the coronavirus started spreading in people have given rise to a range of unsubstantiated theories. One suggests it may have <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/boris-johnson-government-coronavirus-may-leaked-chinese-laboratory-covid-2020-4">accidentally leaked from a Wuhan laboratory</a> in which scientists were researching coronaviruses.While it's not impossible that a stored sample of a bat coronavirus could have leaked from a lab, it's far more likely that it jumped naturally from bats to an intermediary species — perhaps a <a href="https://scau.edu.cn/2020/0207/c1300a219015/page.htm">pangolin</a> — before making its way into our population. Infectious-disease researchers had been warning of the potential for exactly such a spillover event for years. <h2>Many spillovers have occurred in the past</h2><div type="image" title="Bird Flu" height="2006" width="3000" msid="75352454" hostid="261"></div>Experts have long agreed that the next pandemic was always a matter of when, not if."The world needs to prepare for pandemics in the same serious way it prepares for war," Bill Gates said <a href="http://epidemics.events.nejm.org/#/main">during a 2018 conference</a>. "If history has taught us anything, it's that there will be another deadly global pandemic." The 2009-2010 H1N1 pandemic — swine flu — started in pigs then killed nearly 300,000 people. People have caught bird flus via direct contact with infected poultry. Other pandemic influenza strains, including <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/1957-1958-pandemic.html">the 1957</a> "Asian flu" and the 1968 <a href="https://www.britannica.com/event/Hong-Kong-flu-of-1968">Hong Kong pandemic</a>, likely started in <a href="https://www.britannica.com/event/Asian-flu-of-1957">birds</a>, too.And in the last 45 years, at least four epidemics — including SARS — have been traced back to bats. "Bats and birds are considered reservoir species for viruses with pandemic potential," Bart Haagmans, a virologist at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, Netherlands, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/wuhan-coronavirus-sars-bats-animals-to-humans-2020-1">previously told Business Insider</a>.Researchers traced the SARS coronavirus to a population of <a href="http://www.bio.bris.ac.uk/research/bats/China%20bats/rhinolophussinicus.htm">horseshoe bats</a> in China's Yunnan province; humans caught it from civet cats at a wet market in Guangdong. The virus killed 774 people and infected more than 8,000 in eight months.Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), also a coronavirus, first passed from bats to dromedary camels. It circulated in the camel population undetected for decades before jumping to humans in 2012. So far, 858 people have died across 28 countries from the illness, which is marked by a fever, cough, and shortness of breath.In Southeast Asia, fruit bats were the original hosts of the deadly Nipah virus, which emerged in Malaysia in 1998, then again in India in 2001. The bats passed it to farmed pigs, which gave it to people. Patients experienced headaches and vomiting; many slipped into a coma and died.Fruit bats in Africa have played a major role in Ebola outbreaks as well. The worst Ebola outbreak in history, however, came from a population of <a href="https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2019/01/bat-species-may-be-source-ebola-epidemic-killed-more-11000-people-west-africa">long-fingered bats</a>. More than 11,000 people died in that epidemic from 2013 to 2016.<h2>Bats are prolific virus carriers</h2><div type="image" title="horseshoe bat" height="2323" width="3437" msid="75352466" hostid="261"></div>Scientists estimate that there are 1,400 living bat species. "The great diversity of bats also means they host a great diversity of viruses," Nancy Simmons, curator of the American Museum of Natural History's mammology department, said during a media briefing on Wednesday.Bats harbor a significantly higher proportion of viruses than other mammals, according to <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28636590">a 2017 study</a>. <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6356540/">A 2019 study</a>, in fact, found that bats carry more than 200 coronaviruses. They're ideal hosts if you're a virus because bats fly across large geographical ranges, transporting diseases as they go <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/bats-breeding-ground-viruses-superhost-coronavirus-2020-4">without getting sick themselves</a>.Bats pass these virus to other species via their poop or saliva, and the unwitting intermediaries can transmit the virus to humans in the same way.A study published in <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6466186/">March 2019</a> predicted that bats would be the source of a new coronavirus outbreak in China."It is highly likely that future SARS- or MERS-like coronavirus outbreaks will originate from bats, and there is an increased probability that this will occur in China," the researchers wrote at the time.That's because the majority of coronaviruses — those that affect humans and animals — can be found in China, and many bats "live near humans in China, potentially transmitting viruses to humans and livestock," the authors said.<h2>Millions of people are exposed to zoonotic viruses annually</h2>Peter Daszak, president of EcoHealth Alliance, <a href="https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2020/04/23/841729646/virus-researchers-cast-doubt-on-theory-of-coronavirus-lab-accident">told NPR</a> this week that his colleagues are "finding 1 to 7 million people exposed" to zoonotic viruses in Southeast Asia each year."That's the pathway. <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> has renamed its upcoming <keyword id="43820" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hatchback">hatchback</keyword>, which was earlier named as <keyword id="186164" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="ZICA">Zica</keyword>, as Tiago after successful end of a name hunt campaign. 
 Earlier this month, auto major had decided to rename its soon-to-be launched hatchback Zica in view of the outbreak of <keyword id="3189910" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Zika">Zika</keyword> virus. 
 
The company said it had announced the intent to rename the car "as the right and responsible action following the hardships caused by the virus outbreak across many countries". 
The company will apply for regulatory registrations and is working towards the market launch by March end. 
 
"We are delighted with the response and support we have received from our well-wishers across the globe through the Fantastico Name Hunt campaign. We are proud to announce the new name - TIAGO for our next new hatchback," Tata Motors said in a statement. 
 
The company has begun working towards launching this car and are determined to place it in the market addressing all relevant needs of the target audience, he added. 
 
The #Fantastico Name Hunt commenced with a global crowd-sourcing initiative, inviting netizens, both within and outside India, to participate in the name hunt for the car. 
 
Within three days, 48 million enthusiasts engaged with the brand on social platforms with more than 37,000 car enthusiasts submitting their suggestions through social and mobile channels.

"This indicates that treatments and vaccines developed for SARS should work for the Wuhan virus," Jones added.<h2>'A version of SARS'</h2>Many coronaviruses are zoonotic diseases, meaning they can spread to people from animals. In the case of SARS and the new coronavirus (officially named 2019-nCoV), bats were the original hosts. They then infected other animals via their poop or saliva, and the unwitting intermediaries transmitted the virus to humans."2019-nCoV is a bat virus, and SARS-CoV, which caused an epidemic in 2002 and 2003, is the closest relative seen previously in people," Jones said. Between November 2002 and July 2003, SARS killed 774 people and infected 8,098 across 29 countries.To determine the origin of the new coronavirus, scientists examined the complete genomes of coronavirus samples collected from patients at the early stage of the outbreak.<a href="https://nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2012-7">In the first study</a>, a team led by scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology looked at virus samples from seven patients that initially reported cases of severe pneumonia. Six of the patients worked at the Huanan wholesale seafood market in Wuhan, China, which is thought to be where the outbreak started in December. He checked into a Wuhan hospital on December 26 with symptoms of respiratory illness and a fever. An analysis of the virus that infected him showed it is 89% similar to a group of SARS-like coronaviruses called betacoronaviruses that had previously been found in Chinese bats.<h2>How coronaviruses jump to people</h2>Vincent Munster, a virologist at Rocky Mountain Laboratories, previously told Business Insider that only <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/neuroscience/betacoronavirus">betacoronaviruses</a> can make the jump to humans and nest in our respiratory tracts.That's because not all coronaviruses have the same shape. The virus' circular shell is peppered with spike-shaped proteins that help it attach to a host's cell. If the spikes' shape doesn't fit receptors on a potential host's cells, the virus can't spill over.But when a coronavirus mutates, the shape of these proteins gets altered, and that sometimes allows the virus to dock in a new host.CDC via APThis illustration, provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in January 2020, shows the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV).Zheng-Li Shi, the lead author of the study that examined seven virus samples, showed that both SARS and the new coronavirus can dock to the same receptor, called ACE2, deep in people's lungs. That may explain patients' pneumonia-like symptoms.<h2>The new virus' similarity to SARS could be a blessing in disguise</h2>Because SARS and the Wuhan coronavirus bind to human cells in the same way, the authors of the new studies say potential treatments for the former might also work for the latter.No specific treatment or vaccine has been developed for SARS or this coronavirus, but researchers have been working on some drugs and pre-clinical vaccines for SARS. That work could probably be applied to this virus, <a href="https://nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2012-7">Shi and her co-authors wrote</a>. This horse antibody was also once used to combat the SARS virus. <h2>The unique threat of bats</h2>Not all coronaviruses are deadly - the ones endemic to humans, like the common cold, are <a href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2759815?guestAccessKey=da12c4d9-bed5-4c36-88cf-4db717115947&amp;utm_source=For_The_Media&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=ftm_links&amp;utm_content=tfl&amp;utm_term=012320">often considered inconsequential</a>.
