Mumbai, Jan 19 (PTI) Equity benchmark <keyword id="6484188" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex">Sensex</keyword> rallied nearly 500 points in early trade on Tuesday tracking strong gains in <keyword id="10617334" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="index-majors-reliance-industries">index majors Reliance Industries</keyword>, <keyword id="45123" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="HDFC">HDFC</keyword> and Infosys amid a positive trend in global markets. The 30-share BSE index was trading 485.97 points or 1% higher at 49,050.24. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty surged 134.05 points or 0.94% to 14,415.35. Bajaj Finance was the top gainer in the <keyword id="9940028" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex-pack">Sensex pack</keyword>, rising around 2%, followed by SBI, ONGC, IndusInd Bank, <keyword id="6355199" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-industries">Reliance Industries</keyword>, HDFC and <keyword id="6355975" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="axis-bank">Axis Bank</keyword>. On the other hand, ITC and HDFC Bank were the laggards. In the previous session, Sensex ended 470.40 points or 0.96% lower at 48,564.27, while Nifty tumbled 152.40 points or 1.06% to 14,281.30. Foreign portfolio investors (<keyword id="2005494" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="FPIs">FPIs</keyword>) were net buyers in the capital market as they purchased shares worth ₹650.60 crore on Monday, as per exchange data. According to Binod Modi Head-Strategy at Reliance Securities, domestic equities look to be good at the moment. A sharp pullback for the last two trading days clearly indicates profit booking by the investors ahead of key events including the <keyword id="6360189" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="union-budget">Union Budget</keyword>. "However, we still believe that any meaningful correction will be bought out as underlying fundamentals of the market remain intact," he said. Huge fiscal stimulus in the US, persistently soft monetary policies of global bankers, weak dollar and better-than-expected earnings growth by corporate should continue to ensure favourable FPI flow into domestic markets, Modi added. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Hong Kong, Seoul and Tokyo were trading with significant gains, while Shanghai was in the red. Meanwhile, the global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.44% higher at USD 54.99 per barrel. Markets snap 2-day losses: Sensex rallies nearly 500 points, Nifty tops 14,400

Equity benchmark <keyword id="6484188" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex">Sensex</keyword> tumbled over 300 points in early trade on Monday, tracking losses in <keyword id="10617334" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="index-majors-reliance-industries">index majors Reliance Industries</keyword>, HDFC Bank and <keyword id="6653" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI-bank">ICICI Bank</keyword> amid a weak trend in global markets. The 30-share BSE index was trading 305.33 points or 0.61 per cent lower at 49,552.91, and the broader NSE <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty">Nifty</keyword> fell 76 points or 0.52 per cent to 14,668. PowerGrid was the top loser in the <keyword id="9940028" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex-pack">Sensex pack</keyword>, shedding around 2 per cent, followed by <keyword id="6355199" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-industries">Reliance Industries</keyword>, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and IndusInd Bank. On the other hand, <keyword id="44642" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sun-Pharma">Sun Pharma</keyword>, Dr Reddy's, Asian Paints and <keyword id="6354512" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> were among the gainers. In the previous session, Sensex ended 641.72 points or 1.30 per cent higher at 49,858.24, and Nifty surged 186.15 points or 1.28 per cent to finish at 14,744. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital market on Friday as they bought shares worth Rs 1,418.43 crore, as per exchange data. V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, said the market is in an excessively volatile zone. Support comes from sustained FII buying which has crossed Rs 7,000 crore during the last four trading days. "But, there is a major dampener in the form of fast-rising COVID-19 cases, especially in some economically significant cities. Restricted economic activity in these regions might impact the optimistic growth projections for FY 22," he added. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai and Seoul were trading on a positive note in mid-session deals, while Hong Kong and Tokyo were in the red. Meanwhile, the global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.50 per cent lower at USD 64.21 per barrel. Sensex drops over 300 points in early trade, Nifty below 14,700

After touching a high of 50,128.85 in early trade, the 30-share BSE index was trading 260.39 points or 0.52 per cent higher at 50,004.71. After a similar movement, the broader NSE <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty">Nifty</keyword> was quoting 81.50 points or 0.56 per cent up at 14,757.20. ONGC was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rallying around 6 per cent, followed by L&amp;T, <keyword id="111876" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bajaj-Finance">Bajaj Finance</keyword>, <keyword id="85462" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bajaj-FinServ">Bajaj Finserv</keyword>, ICICI Bank, <keyword id="6355199" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-industries">Reliance Industries</keyword>, <keyword id="6355975" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="axis-bank">Axis Bank</keyword> and IndusInd Bank. In the previous session, Sensex tumbled 1,145.44 points or 2.25 per cent to close at 49,744.32, and Nifty sank 306.05 points or 2.04 per cent to finish at 14,675.70. Foreign institutional investors turned net sellers in the capital market as they offloaded shares worth Rs 893.25 crore on Monday, as per exchange data. Domestic equities look to be good at the moment despite mixed cues from global markets, said Binod Modi Head-Strategy at Reliance Securities. Concerns pertaining to increase in bond yields and higher commodity prices dented investors' sentiments in the last couple of days. However, the underlying strength of the economy and market remains intact in our view and hence any further correction in the market should be used to buy, he said. He further added that Indian companies are likely to see sustained earnings recovery in subsequent fiscals and therefore premium valuations are likely to sustain. US equities extended losses in overnight trade on Monday as worries over continued rise in bond yields dampened investors' sentiments. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai and Hong Kong were trading on a positive note in mid-session deals, while Seoul was in the red. Meanwhile, the global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 1.38 per cent higher at USD 65.25 per barrel. Sensex down by 150 points; Nifty slips below 17,700 — Reliance Industries, PowerGrid, Kotak Bank, Maruti, Bajaj Auto and Axis Bank top losers

Extending its previous day's rally, the 30-share <keyword id="35140" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bse" source="Orion">BSE</keyword> benchmark climbed 203.01 points or 0.34 per cent to settle at 59,959.85. During the day, it jumped 376.33 points or 0.62 per cent to 60,133.17. On similar lines, the broader NSE Nifty advanced 49.85 points or 0.28 per cent to end at 17,786.80. Markets log gains for 2nd day on buying in Reliance

Equity benchmark <keyword id="6484188" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex" source="Orion">Sensex</keyword> jumped over 260 points in early trade to scale a fresh lifetime high of 58,390.21 on Monday, tracking gains in index majors Reliance Industries, Bajaj Auto and L&amp;T amid a largely positive trend in global markets. Similarly, the broader NSE <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> too surged more than 75 points to record 17,399.35 in the opening session. The 30-share Sensex was trading 260.26 points or 0.45 per cent higher at 58,390.21, and Nifty advanced 75.75 points or 0.44 per cent to 17,399.35 in initial deals. Reliance Industries was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rising around 2 per cent, followed by Bajaj Auto, L&amp;T, HUL, M&amp;M, DR Reddy's and Bajaj Finserv. On the other hand, Asian Paints, TCS, Power Grid, Titan and Tech Mahindra were among the laggards. In the previous session, the 30-share Sensex settled 277.41 points or 0.48 per cent up at 58,129.95. Nifty surged 89.45 points or 0.52 per cent to 17,323.60. In Asia, bourses in Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong were trading with strong gains in mid-session deals, while Seoul was in the red. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital market as they purchased shares worth Rs 768.58 crore on Friday, as per provisional exchange data.
