Amid the ongoing startup gloom comes good news in fintech unicorn <keyword id="19944449" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="incred" source="keywords">Incred</keyword> which has posted Rs 109 crore in profit in FY23 as compared to Rs 31 crore in FY22, a more than 3.5 times growth. Incred's revenue surged 77.46 per cent to Rs 866 crore during FY23 from Rs 488 crore in FY22, according to its financials with the Registrar of Companies (RoC). The finance cost (interest expenses) was up 62.6 per cent to Rs 356 crore in FY23 from Rs 219 crore in FY22, as the company scaled its operations, according to an Entrackr report. Incred has likely built a loan book of Rs 7,500 crore within the last six years. Late last month, the fintech lender became India's second unicorn of 2023 (the other being quick commerce startup <keyword id="19939134" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="zepto" source="keywords">Zepto</keyword>) after raising $60 million from new and existing investors. <keyword id="20112130" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="incred-wealth" source="keywords">InCred Wealth</keyword>, the wealth management subsidiary of InCred, led the funding round with investing $36.76 million, followed by MEMG Family Office at $9 million. Ravi <keyword id="20112129" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pillai" source="keywords">Pillai</keyword>, Chairman at RP Group of Companies, and <keyword id="19960548" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ram-nayak" source="keywords">Ram Nayak</keyword>, Co-Head of Deutsche Bank, invested $5.4 million and $1.2 million, respectively. InCred Special Opportunities Fund VCC, Singapore-registered entity of InCred, Varanium Capital Advisors and NABS <keyword id="20112128" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vriddhii" source="keywords">Vriddhii</keyword> also participated in the round. With this funding, InCred is now valued at more than $1.03 billion. Fintech unicorn Incred logs Rs 109 cr profit in FY23, revenue up over 77%

<ul><li>Financial services firm <keyword id="8331532" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="incred-capital" source="Orion">InCred Capital</keyword> announced the acquisition of <keyword id="6571307" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="orowealth" source="Orion">Orowealth</keyword>, an alternate asset advisory firm.</li><li>With this acquisition, <keyword id="4331504" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="incred" source="Orion">InCred</keyword> will enter the wealth-tech segment with the launch of <keyword id="15944055" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="incred-money" source="Orion">InCred Money</keyword>.</li><li>The <keyword id="9750911" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="incred-group" source="Orion">InCred Group</keyword> has over ₹15,000 crore assets under management (AUM), and its businesses include an NBFC and an institutional wealth and asset management platform.</li></ul>Financial services firm InCred Capital announced the acquisition of Orowealth, an alternate asset advisory firm, on Monday, in an all-cash deal. The deal value has not been revealed. With this acquisition, InCred will enter the wealth-tech segment with the launch of InCred Money. It will be led by Orowealth’s co-founder <keyword id="14427300" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vijay-kuppa" source="Orion">Vijay Kuppa</keyword>. InCred has two other businesses – InCred Finance, a new-age non-banking finance corporation (NBFC) focused on lending, and InCred Capital, an institutional, wealth and asset management platform. “In the next decade, the democratization of investment opportunities covering the mass affluent and retail segments will be driven by digital platforms that unlock access to non-traditional assets for investors as well as their advisors,” said <keyword id="117981" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bhupinder-singh" source="Orion">Bhupinder Singh</keyword>, founder and group CEO of InCred Group. The acquisition of Orowealth adds over ₹1,100 crore to the assets under management (AUM) of the InCred Group – which itself has an AUM of ₹15,000 crore (before the acquisition). The company also said it has a team of over 100 private bankers and caters to the high networth and ultra-high networth segments. Orowealth’s acquisition now allows it to cater to the retail and mass-affluent space. “With the launch of the InCred Money platform, we are committed to offering best-in-class products to these rapidly evolving customer segments in keeping with our vision to meet the financial needs of every Indian family,” Singh added. InCred Money will be targeted at customers, and also serve as a platform for other businesses which want to serve customers. As far as the platform services are concerned, InCred Money plans to integrate a network of Independent Financial Advisors (IFA) across the country. “There is a growing demand for non-traditional investment assets from mass affluent and retail investors due to rising income levels and greater awareness. InCred Capital acquires alternate asset advisory firm Orowealth

The month of December has seen the category in lending-verse amass outstanding balances of approximately ₹11 lakh crore, as per the Consumer Finance Overview by InCred Finance. Within the segment, the most rapid growth has been seen in small ticket personal loans (STPL), defined as loans under ₹25,000, witnessing a fourfold increase in volume over the past two years. Meanwhile, conventional personal loans, characterised by larger amounts and stricter underwriting criteria, have doubled in volume over the same period. It is to be noteworthy that in November, earlier this year, RBI increased the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/finance/news/rbi-tightens-norms-on-personal-loans-for-banks-nbfcs/articleshow/105269235.cms">risk weightage</a> for unsecured personal loans, and the effect is expected to be seen gradually. Retail lending trumps corporate lending Interestingly, retail lending, directed at individuals rather than businesses, now holds the foremost position and exhibits the most rapid growth within the credit landscape. Retail lending stands at approximately ₹89 lakh crores (around $1.1 trillion), constituting 46% of the overall credit in the economy. The report says that comparatively, corporate lending amounts to ₹74 lakh crores (about $0.9 trillion), securing the second largest segment. Retail balances are growing at a rate of 22% annually from a substantial base, outpacing the 17% growth of overall credit balances and the 14% growth of corporate balances. <keyword id="6387037" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="credit-cards" source="Orion">Credit cards</keyword> remain fastest growing retail lending category, despite decreased acceptance rates The fastest growing sector in retail lending remains credit cards. Despite a more than 25% decrease in acceptance rates and an industry-wide tightening of credit policies for new-to-credit customers, credit card balances have consistently increased. This appears to be a preemptive risk management step by lenders, as overall credit performance in the industry remains stable or even shows signs of improvement. This shift aims to mitigate risk by promoting lending backed by collateral rather than unsecured lending, aligning with the RBI's cautionary stance.

Retail trumps corporate lending as small-ticket loans see fourfold jump in past two years

New Delhi, Online food delivery platform <keyword id="6358977" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swiggy" source="Orion">Swiggy</keyword> on Tuesday said it has facilitated over Rs 450 crore in loan disbursal to more than 8,000 restaurant owners as part of its capital assist programme. Launched in 2017, the capital assist programme is a first-in-the-segment solution designed to bridge the financing gap and empower restaurant owners. Over 8,000 restaurants have availed loans so far, of which 3,000 availed loans in 2022 alone, the company said in a statement. Partnering with multiple lending partners, including Indifi, Incred, FT Cash, PayU Finance, and IIFL, Swiggy offers tailored financial solutions like term loans and credit lines. "The NBFCs will soon facilitate more exciting solutions like pre-approved loans to enable our partners to gain easier and quicker access to capital, driving even more growth for their businesses," said Swapnil Bajpai, VP-Supply, Swiggy. From quick sign-ups to even quicker approvals, through capital assist programme, the NBFCs take a fast, easy, and efficient approach to provide funds for restaurant partner's business needs. Swiggy disburses over Rs 450 cr in loans to 8000 restaurant owners

<ul><li>RIL, TCS, HDFC Bank retain top spots as <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword>’s most valuable companies.</li><li>India’s 500 most valuable companies have a cumulative value of ₹231 lakh crore, as per a Burgundy <keyword id="20553117" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hurun" source="keywords">Hurun</keyword> report.</li><li>Suzlon Energy, Jindal Stainless and JSW Infrastructure saw triple digit growth in value in the last one year. </li></ul>Reliance Industries, TCS and HDFC Bank retained their ranks as India’s most valuable companies respectively in the 2023 <keyword id="20554332" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="burgundy-private-hurun" source="keywords">Burgundy Private Hurun</keyword> India 500, released on Monday. The combined value of the top 10 companies remained unchanged in the last one year, at ₹73.3 lakh crore. However, the picture wasn't as rosy for the startup ecosystem. The top 10 had a mixed year, five of them seeing a robust double double digit growth in value, two of them saw single-digit growth, and three of them shed around 10% of their value. L&amp;T’s value went up by 41%, HDFC Bank’s value swelled by 35% due the merger with its parent, and ITC too saw its value swell by 24%. Notable exits &amp; big comebacks Startups, however, had a bad year with Swiggy shedding 26% of its value, Dream11’s value went down by 9.8%, and Razorpay by 8.5%. Meanwhile, in the listed space, while most new-age companies like Policybazaar, Delhivery, Zomato Paytm, saw their valuations go up, Nykaa remained an outlier as it shed 26.8% of its value. Byju’s and Pharmeasy exited the list which has a new cut off rate of ₹6,700 crore. “Startup funding and valuation continued their downward trajectory. Startups in the list cumulatively lost ₹4 lakh crore led by <keyword id="19914048" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="byjus" source="keywords">Byjus</keyword>, Dealshare, and Pharmeasy; which failed to make it to the list this year,” Hurun said. The unlisted universe had yet another disappointment. India’s most valuable unlisted company and Covid-19 vaccine maker Serum Institute of India saw its value decrease by 13% to ₹1.9 lakh crore. There have been many comeback stories as well amongst the top 500 companies. Suzlon Energy registered one of the highest value growth this year, as its value swelled by a remarkable 436%. Jindal Stainless’ value went up by 395% and JSW Infrastructure by 310%. “It indicates a rise in renewable energy and infrastructure development. For instance, INOX Wind, which was on the path to insolvency in 2017, registered a 450% growth in value and stormed into 2023 Burgundy Private <keyword id="20554331" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hurun-india" source="keywords">Hurun India</keyword> 500,” said Anas Rahman Junaid, MD and chief researcher, of Hurun India. But, 61 new companies made their debut to the list, led by industrial products with 16 new entrants, followed by financial services with 10 new entrants. Apart from Inox Wind, freshly listed R R Kabel and Welspun Corp were the notable unlisted entrants including unicorn Incred Finance, and Bengaluru-based gaming startup Gameskraft. cumulative value of ₹231 lakh crore ($2.8 trillion). They went up from ₹212 lakh crore from June last year, but remained flat since 2021, the report says. “The 2023 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500 list is a strong confirmation of the Indian economy's solid performance in all sectors. The increase in new entrants from industrial goods shows India's rising manufacturing growth,” said Junaid. The combined value of the listed and unlisted companies which made it to the 2023 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500, is more than the combined GDP of Saudi Arabia, Switzerland and Singapore, the report said. “The 2023 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500 companies represent India’s economically strongest businesses. The reason is self-explanatory as these companies have a total value of $2.8 trillion, which is almost 90% of India’s current GDP, i.e. they are the backbone of India’s economy. Together, these 500 companies had combined sales of ₹79 lakh crore and employed 7 million staff, which is more than the working population of Switzerland,” Junaid said. The cut off for companies to enter the list went up by 13% to ₹6,700 crore.

Advanced technology battery start-up Log9 Material on Monday said it has raised USD 40 million (nearly Rs 325 crore) in Series B funding led by <keyword id="124764" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="amara-raja-batteries" source="Orion">Amara Raja Batteries</keyword> Ltd and <keyword id="12272190" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="petronas-ventures" source="Orion">Petronas Ventures</keyword>. The round was also participated by other investors, including Incred Financial Services, Unity Small Finance Bank, Oxyzo Financial Services and Western Capital Advisors. "The recent round of investments will allow us to grow our battery manufacturing capabilities to a 2 GWH capacity by the end of 2024," Log9 Material Founder and CEO <keyword id="6381441" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="akshay" source="Orion">Akshay</keyword> Singhal said in a statement. He further said it will also help the company to commission its first fully integrated Lithium Ion Cell production line. "Furthermore, over Rs 100 crore will be invested towards advancements in cell and battery technology stacks," Singhal added. Log9 said it also plans to invest a part of the raised funds into "budding start-ups and organisations that are solving challenges related to charging infrastructure, technology ancillaries and companies fighting climate change at large". On the company's investment, Amara Raja Batteries Executive Director <keyword id="15683367" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="vikramaditya-gourineni" source="Orion">Vikramaditya Gourineni</keyword> said, "Log9's progress in the field is significant in meeting India's growing aspirations in the energy and mobility space.
