The centre’s scheme to make people pay taxes for their income under the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=street+food&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Income Declaration Scheme</a> (IDS) is coming up with great results. 
The roadside <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=street+food&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">street vendors </a>in Mumbai selling<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=street+food&amp;sortorder=effectivedate"> vada pav</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=street+food&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">chhole batore</a> have declared Rs 50 crores property and cash. 
 The eatery owners will have to pay tax of Rs 22.5 crore on this previously unaccounted income, people aware of the matter told the <keyword id="6474066" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-times">Economic Times</keyword>. 
 The IT department on tip offs have conducted raids on 200 eateries including a well-known vada pav centre in Thane, a dosa centre in <keyword id="6354719" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ghatkopar">Ghatkopar</keyword>, a sandwich centre in Andheri and a jalebiwallah in south Mumbai. 
 
"The owner of a juice centre in Ghatkopar has declared about Rs 5 crore in cash and property under the IDS. Some other roadside eatery owners too declared Rs 25 lakh-Rs 2 crore, one of the persons, who did not wish to be identified told the ET. 
 About Rs 40,000 crore had been declared under the black money scheme by Thursday evening, the person said. Of this, about Rs 5,000 crore was declared in Mumbai, Thane and <keyword id="219220" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-Mumbai">New Mumbai</keyword>. 
 
"The income tax officials told us that we must declare our assets under IDS or they would come again and raid our shop. We had asked our tax advisor to help us with the problem, one of the the people who declared wealth under IDS told the ET. 
 
A lawyer said declaration of income under the scheme could lead to harassment, the government's assurances to the contrary notwithstanding. 
 "One of my clients wanted to declare about Rs 3.5 crore but I strongly advised against it, as it could lead to harassment in future. His son is about to get married, so I advised the client to hold a grand marriage in <keyword id="6372909" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Turkey">Turkey</keyword> or somewhere and blow away all the money instead, the lawyer, who did not wish to be named, told the financial daily.

Gautam Gambir is quite tensed as his wife might kill him.
Here’s why

To ease rush at booking counters, the railways is mulling introducing booking of unreserved railway tickets on e-wallets like PayTM, JioMoney and <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> Money. 
 
According to agency, the move is also expected to help scale up paperless mobile ticketing operation across the country in a big way. 
 Unreserved ticketing forms a huge chunk of the railways' total ticket sale in a day and "we want to tap this sector through e-commerce", a senior <keyword id="54441" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Railway-ministry">Railway Ministry</keyword> official told the agency. 
 
The railways will not have to bear any cost for the facility. Instead, the public transporter is expected to earn from the selected e-wallet players commission on each ticket sold and retainer fees. 
 
Many top mobile wallet companies are keen on joining the railways, the official said, adding talks were on to finalise the modalities. 
 
Since these e-wallets are already operational for booking taxis, cinema tickets and other services, joining the railways will offer a big scope for these private players. 
 
The move is a win-win proposition for both the railways and the mobile wallet companies, the official said. 
 
The railways carry total 23 million passengers in a day, of which only six per cent is in reserved category and the rest are in unreserved segment which includes daily commuters. 
 
At present, mobile ticketing options are available in a few suburban sections including Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi-Palwal. 
 
However, despite the huge scope in unreserved ticketing sector, the use of railway wallet for mobile ticketing did not elicit as good response as expected. 
 
According to the railways, the use of e-wallets like PayTM in the unreserved ticketing system is expected to boost the paperless mobile ticketing operation. 
 
While the current mobile ticketing requires geo-fencing of certain area to prevent malpractices, there is no need for such measures with these e-wallets. 
 
Discussions are on with these players for making the operation foolproof with bar-coding system as more than one crore tickets are sold daily through unreserved ticketing system, said the official. 
 
Moving ahead with the 'Digital India' mission, the railways expect to make the e-wallet system operational across the country early next year.

India Put On A Spectacular Show For President Obama On Republic Day

The country prepares to celebrate its 69th independence day this weekend, and let’s not forget this is an annual affair that lacks the nostalgia and the requisite passion. Except for BJP drumming up a bit on nationality and religiosity, India has largely been a simmering nation which has had its identity, split into half, mostly vertically. We are a country without a mission, and a mirror image of what we were in the past. 
Set aside all the discourses on our great epics, our oldest universities and a lot of pride that we take in saying we are a country of early civilizations. Yes, we do have everything to be proud of, under our belt but what the nation seriously lacks today is the wind under its wings. 
After all, a country that celebrates its post-independence identity, grudgingly giving into the fact that we were a nation, filthy rich but largely disintegrated, much closed in our own cocoons and the knowledge that we held since ages. Nothing prepared us for the British rule that stealthily crept in and made India home for centuries. 
 
The British entered this supermarket called India, with no-cash-only-kind mode of payment, and plundered at the resources the country had. Or, so we would like to believe. This is what gets the heart of every nationalist beating. The image is too innocent to be true. 
 
So when the Congress MP Shashi Tharoor spoke of Britain owing reparations to India, there was a thunderous applause from all over, more so from the 31% Indians who voted BJP’s passion for ‘restoring the bygone glory’ of the country. And then of course, the NRIs who left India to chase rainbow dreams, whose image of India is much dipped in honey like that of an impeccable Saas-Bahu serial of clean and innocent as that of Karan Johar’s films, clinging on to the rich frames of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, India indeed is a land made of their dreams. 
 
Their voices had suddenly found an argument. This was like some sort of a permanent cure for the stuttering the collective Indians had. The Diaspora was delirious, and the inlanders were even more so. 
 
But, actually looking at it, some part of this may be true as well. Experts would put India’s collective share in world economy at the beginning of 18th century stood at 23%. Seduced by this, the Brits courted it. When they left the country for good, the share of India in the world economy was a miserly 4%. What a fall! It was just short of entering the negative zone. Had it been so, India would still be more rabid than what it is now. 
 
It was a wounded civilization which had lost its sense of pride, identity, reality and plurality. Torn at the arm with a share forming Pakistan, and then at the rib with another share forming Bangladesh, India was truly insufferable. But, was this something that the British caused, or would it have happened in a matter of time is for everyone to contemplate? 
 
Reparation is a very consoling word. But, how do you value ‘reparations’ to something that happened centuries ago? What would the parameter be? Money or knowledge? Wound or the power of healing? In discourses or materialistic means? 
 
Without arriving at this parameter, it would be a fond thought, much like remembering one’s own childhood which is filled with pink memories, but the reality may well have been out of perception or different from what one knows or remembers. 
 
Historians have not ruled out the fact that Britain owes no reparations to India. Fact remains that India was taken over by many other rulers from different faiths which changed the fabric of the society while also making some hay while sun shone. So, why single out the British? 
In fact, when the British began to tighten their clutches over the country through East India Company, they also ensured the country developed as far as the knowledge is concerned. One thing that the Brits take credit for is the railways that they laid in a country that didn’t even plan for proper roads. Today the railways is the biggest employer, and runs the most complicated railway system with least errors in the world. This could be India’s take away from the British rule. 
 
Industrialisation, urban planning, education, uniform system of education and political awareness – and finally, unification of Indian states – these could have been a distant dream had India not come together under the British rule. 
 
Democracy that India borrowed from British is priceless. But, it’s a pity today, India stands at cross roads between its belief in democracy and somewhat inclined towards authoritarian values, such as belief in monarchy or a single ruler. 
 
Should India worry about reparations? Not yet. But, probably the ball is set in motion. Depends on whose court it lands in, next.

The new satellite is a big leap from the time when satellites could only capture general outlines of countries and detect weather patterns. Hyperspectral imaging — also called <keyword id="7022239" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Imaging-spectroscopy">imaging spectroscopy</keyword> or <keyword id="7066764" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="hypex-imaging">hypex imaging</keyword> — <a href="https://www.isro.gov.in/isro-develops-optical-imaging-detector-array-hyperspectral-imaging-applications">enables</a> satellites to distinctly identify objects from outer space.

 This trend in Earth observation allows for a high level of differentiation that’s a huge improvement over the normal optical images used in conventional satellites. Experts in earth observation have <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/isro-to-develop-full-fledged-earth-observation-satellite/article19458651.ece">called</a> the technology the ‘CATSCAN’ of Earth from space. The agency plans on using this technology to help with agriculture, soil quality, coastal zones, and inland waters among other geological environments. It’s all about the chip Hyperspectral imaging has been around for a while but each country has its own take on how to implement it. In <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>’s case, the crux of hypex imaging lies in an optical imaging detector chip <a href="https://www.isro.gov.in/isro-develops-optical-imaging-detector-array-hyperspectral-imaging-applications">developed</a> by the Space Applications Centre (SAC) and manufactured by Semi Conductor Limited (SCL). The chip is capable of capturing images that can read upto 1,000 x 66 pixels.

Narrower measurement of wavelengths translates into more detailed imaging. Even in terms of scope, the former can identify 55 different spectral bands while the latter is only capable of capturing a maximum of 10 bands. India has already experimented with imaging spectroscopy when it launched the Chandrayaan-1, which had a hyperspectral camera on board to help map out the mineral resources available on the moon. The chairman of ISRO, K Sivan, told the <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/isro-to-launch-hyperspectral-imaging-sat-with-30-foreign-satellites-on-nov-29/articleshow/66801810.cms">Times of India</a>, “We are going to launch HySIS at 9.59 am on November 29 from Sriharkota.
