With the nationwide lockdown in force, the IIT-Kharagpur has advised its students to apply for summer internships in its departments, an official of the institute said on Saturday.It said the students can also approach companies that offer online internships, he said. Students of the IIT-Kharagpur will do internships from April to July this year. "We are allocating students to work as interns in ongoing projects in the institute," Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Professor Debasis Deb said. Meanwhile, the IIT-Kharagpur has formed a placement task force to liaise with companies to ensure that placement offers remain consistent amid the coronavirus outbreak, the institute tweeted. A total of 1,306 offers were made in 2019-20 fiscaland there has been no cancellation so far, it said. The IIT-Kharagpur has preponed summer holidays by a month to April 1 due to the coronavirus outbreak and all classes were conducted online since March 24, Deb said. The online classes helped the institute complete the classes as per the academic schedule, he added.

Earlier this year, a 20-year-old student living at the IIT-B campus and a son of a faculty member, stabbed himself to death after an altercation with his family members. Last year in April, a 17-year-old daughter of a faculty member had taken her life by jumping off a building in the campus. While the administration is still trying hard to deal with this challenge, <keyword id="6364832" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT-Kharagpur">IIT Kharagpur</keyword> has taken a step forward to help students deal with their daily stress. It's compelling students, who are otherwise huddled in their tiny dorms buried under an avalanche of books, to move out of their rooms and mingle with others. How this is being done is rather interesting - the college reportedly cuts off power in its hostel for an hour every now and then in a bid to urge students to come out of their rooms and speak to others. The college is also installing new vending machines for free tea and coffee. “Students are meeting increasingly less. This naturally creates a lot of problems as they end up being alone. This small step will help them connect when they take a 10-minute coffee or tea break,” an official was quoted as saying. The latest suicide was reported only a few months ago where a fourth-year student of IIT Kharagpur allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room. Increasing levels of stress and depression are said to be the most common reasons why incidents of student <keyword id="81853" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suicides">suicides</keyword> is rising in IITs. Steps by IIT-KGP A report earlier had stated that IIT Kharagpur had also urged the students to spend quality time under a tree canopy and speak to counsellors that help students deal with psychological disorders. Student evaluation with the assistance of psychiatric professionals is on the cards. 3-credit courses on mental health and wellbeing will also be run from next year. The institute is also planning to start an orientation programme with parents.

It’s typically slack, inefficient and not promising.

Now you have to get yourself selected. This is a tricky part. Understand what the company’s business model and market potential is. You might not have the required skills, but if you feel you can still get by and learn fast, that’s enough. In the mail mention that you’re an energetic young man/woman who’s hungry for growth who can own up when the situation demands it.

A Quora post put it best, “Are they typical geeks who talk about 'cool' technologies but won't be able to make something commercial, are they proper 'B-Plan' kind of guys who talk big numbers but don't have the expertise or knowledge to build a good product and are basically looking for a 'CTO', are they socialists who want to do 'good for the society' and won't be able to make a sustainable business post the B-Plan competition, are they rich kids with awesome academic credentials and multiple pages of resume who are just looking for a way to crack Stanford or Harvard?”
