Passengers flying out of Delhi will now have to pay less with the aviation regulatory body slashing the user development fee (UDF) on domestic as well international flights from here. Domestic passengers departing from the <keyword id="87543" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi-International">Indira Gandhi International</keyword> airport will now have to pay a UDF of Rs 10, as against the levy of Rs 275-550 earlier. International passengers will have to pay Rs 45, down from Rs 635-1,270. Both domestic and international passengers landing in Delhi will not have to pay the UDF anymore. This translates into a saving of Rs 233-466 for the former and that of Rs 518-1,048 for the latter. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the country's aviation watchdog notified the revised tariff order today. Significantly, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the joint venture company which operates <keyword id="114637" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IGIA">IGIA</keyword>, had sought 42.6 per cent hike in airport charges. <keyword id="450511" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airports-Economic-Regulatory-Authority">Airports Economic Regulatory Authority</keyword> had ordered this steep cut in December 2015 but its implementation was pending because the Delhi airport operator had approached the court against the slashing of charges. <keyword id="2573" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-India">Air India</keyword> challenged this in the <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword>, which on 3 July vacated a stay granted by the Delhi high court, paving the way for revised tariffs to be implemented.

Once again a case of mysterious disappearance of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=gold+">gold</a> from the customs secure vaults has come into light. The missing <keyword id="18712" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gold">gold</keyword> is worth about Rs 6.2 crore as per the latest market price and was seized from smugglers. 
 
It was found that a total of 23.6 kg of gold disappeared recently from highly-secured customs vaults at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Indira+Gandhi+International+Airport+">Indira Gandhi International Airport</a> (<keyword id="114637" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="IGIA">IGIA</keyword>) in Delhi. 
 
FIRs have been registered in such cases by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Delhi+Police">Delhi Police</a>, the customs department said in reply to an <keyword id="6356198" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="RTI">RTI</keyword> query filed by PTI. 
 
"Departmental enquiry at highest level has been initiated in the said cases," it said. 
 
The gold, in bullion or jewellery, seized from smugglers is generally kept in secure vaults inside the airport terminals. 
 
The cases of mysterious disappearance of gold from the customs secure vaults are being regularly reported. Therefore, the role of customs officials posted there has now come under scrutiny, official sources said. 
 
In June, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=customs+">customs</a> officials had lodged a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=First+Information+Report+">First Information Report</a> (FIR) with police to report disappearance of 11 kg of gold, worth Rs 2.92 crore, from its vault. 
 
That gold was seized in five incidents from passengers who had allegedly tried to smuggle it through the international airport, they said. 
 
The incident had come to light when packets containing the yellow metal, covered and sealed at the instance of courts, were opened before a departmental committee as part of inventory proceedings. A test revealed that the sealed material was not gold, the sources said. 
 
In most of the cases, gold is being replaced with yellow-colour metal, they said. 
 "The role of insiders cannot be ruled out. Both the department and police are probing the matter," a <keyword id="315559" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="senior-customs-official">senior customs official</keyword> said. 
 An FIR was also filed last year to probe similar instances of theft. Theft of gold from five packets had been reported to the police on January 16, 20; April 30 and December 23, 2014, as per the <keyword id="6358992" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Delhi-Police">Delhi Police</keyword> FIR. 
 
In these cases also, gold worth lakhs of rupees was replaced by a yellow metal, it said.

New Delhi, Mar 27 () They are more than 480 in number and are staying at the Delhi airport but in no hurry to leave the place now.They are the staff of DIAL, the operator of the country's largest airport, who are keeping the aerodrome operational for cargo as well as special flights and air force operations apart from carrying out sanitisation work amid the coronavirus outbreak, an official said.With the 21-day lockdown in force till April 14, as many as 482 staff, including from air side operations and land side management, have been staying at the airport since March 24.Out of the 482 people, there are 190 personnel on the land side management at the three terminals and the cargo terminal. As many as 70 persons are handling work on the air side, apart from 80 each for cleaning and Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) segment, the official said."They are staying at the airport and in a way leading a quarantined life, as they are not going back home to meet their families," the official said.Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital handled 69.8 million passengers and 1.04 million metric tonnes of cargo in 2019. The airport -- which has three passenger terminals and one cargo terminal -- is operated by a consortium led by GMR group.In the last few days, many flights have been operated to fly back foreign nationals from India, which has suspended domestic and international flights till April 14. Coronavirus: Over 480 DIAL staff stationed at Delhi airport for smooth operations

While it has become relatively much easier for Delhi residents to get to the <keyword id="89772" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi-International-Airport">Indira Gandhi International Airport</keyword> because of <keyword id="6366797" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Delhi-Metro">Delhi Metro</keyword>’s dedicated airport metro, it takes the residents of <keyword id="6366599" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="north-delhi">North Delhi</keyword> a lot of time to travel to IGIA. To tackle this situation, the Delhi government has proposed that a 29 km long elevated road be constructed between Wazirabad and IGIA, which would reduce travel time taken by North Delhi residents to around half an hour. The plan, which was presented before <keyword id="6365413" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="lg-anil-baijal">LG Anil Baijal</keyword>, has got a go-ahead by the lieutenant governor. He has directed Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning and Engineering) Centre, the concerned authority, to approve the Rs 6,000crore project at the earliest. An elevated road for North Delhi residents to reach airport faster

In a record boom, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport becomes India’s only airport to cater to 5-crore passenger last year. Mumbai has come second in the list with 4.4 crore passengers. 
 
IGI’s record of catering to this many people was 21% higher than 4.6 crore passengers IGI had handled in 2015. 
Delhi airport has achieved this feat at a time when both domestic and international air travel peaked up, thanks to low oil prices, which enabled the airlines to offer tickets at cheap prices. 
 
In 2016, as per record, 10 crore domestic passengers flew in India. 
 
Successive Union governments have been talking of clearing a second airport for Delhi, but there has been no concrete move on that front, according to The Economic Times. The aviation ministry last year approved a revised master plan for IGIA under which it will get a bigger budget terminal; a new one and the fourth runway. However, nothing concrete has been planned yet.

A leak of radioactive substance, which had come from <keyword id="6372909" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Turkey">Turkey</keyword>, was detected at the cargo complex of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here today. 
 Union <keyword id="6000" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Home-Minister">Home Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6355121" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rajnath-Singh">Rajnath Singh</keyword>, while addressing a press conference here, said the leakage has been "plugged." A team of <keyword id="123907" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="atomic">atomic</keyword> <keyword id="131435" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Energy-Department">energy department</keyword> has also reached the spot, the Home Minister said. 
 Sources said about four packets, out of the total ten, of a yellow-coloured liquid was suspected to have spread out of its sanitised container after the consignment landed at the cargo area of the airport at about 4:35 AM after which a special squad of the <keyword id="119446" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="National-Disaster-Response-Force">National Disaster Response Force</keyword> team was called in to check and contain it. 
 
NDRF chief O P Singh said a special ten-member team from its base in Dwarka has been rushed to the spot and is "sanitising" the area. 
 "<keyword id="146408" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Radioactive-leak">Radioactive leak</keyword> very very small. There is nothing to panic and there is no effect on the passenger area," Singh said. 
 
The cargo complex has been vacated by the officials as a preventive measure. Airport officials said the material was imported for use in medical purpose by a multi-speciality hospital. 
 
The packets, containing the material, bore the markings class-II liquid and a chemical component of Sodium.
