Startup firm <keyword id="11179378" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ig-drones" source="Orion">IG Drones</keyword>, which was born out of the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) campus in Odisha's Sambalpur has developed a 5G-enabled drone that is capable of vertical take-off and landing. The drone named Skyhawk can be used in defence and medical applications, among other sectors. The drone can carry a 10 kg payload and has an endurance of around five hours. With Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) providing 5G services in the country, these drones can be controlled with much more precision and can be controlled from the command centre directly rather than being on the field. As it's a <keyword id="1247238" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vtol" source="Orion">VTOL</keyword> (Vertical Take-off and Landing), it can be operated from any terrain without the need for a conventional runway. With the addition of Artificial intelligence and thermal imaging capabilities, drones can be used in monitoring border intrusion and also during regular patrolling by the defence forces, according to the company. It is IP67 rated and can be controlled via a combination of NavIC + GPS navigational satellites which remain connected in the upper range of 50 to 60 in case of failsafe activation. "This has been developed keeping in mind the needs of the defence and medical sectors. We are making it in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> with an aim to take it to the world," said Sambit Prasad <keyword id="315823" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="parida" source="Orion">Parida</keyword>, the chief technology officer. The drone is also capable of operating through satellites in case an internet link is not available, Parida told ANI. "When it will connect several satellites, it will work with precision in medical services delivery and in defence. The drone, if operated at its peak speed, can cover almost 100 kms in 12-15 minutes," Parida said. According to <keyword id="16029878" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kc-sahoo" source="Orion">KC Sahoo</keyword>, Chief Administrative Officer of IG Drones, "For use by defence forces, it can give surveillance up to 100-200 kms per day. If someone deploys 20-30 drones, an area can be secured." Sahoo also reiterated that if 5G services are not available at any locations, they will be downgraded to 3G or 4g, or either latch on to satellites. Startup IG Drones develops India's first 5G-enabled drone, Skyhawk

With communication lines down and the sheer scale of the disaster in <keyword id="12266" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Nepal">Nepal</keyword> making things unmanageable, India is sending UAVs or unmanned aerial vehicles to <keyword id="18568" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="kathmandu">Kathmandu</keyword> to map the destruction in the neighbouring country and help rescue efforts. 
 Sources said the UAVs, under the operational command of <keyword id="119446" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="National-Disaster-Response-Force">National Disaster Response Force</keyword> (NDRF), will reach Kathmandu on Monday and begin operations immediately as time is running out. 
 
"The sheer scale of disaster is so huge that Nepalese authorities, despite their best efforts, are overwhelmed and their infrastructure is under severe stress. We don't even know exactly where and what building has collapsed. Since communication lines are down, there is little information coming from the public either. UAVs will help us map the destruction in the city and channelize resources accordingly," said an NDRF officer. 
 
NDRF IG Sandeep Rai Rathod confirmed the development and said, "We are at the operational command of Nepalese authorities and doing our best to rescue people wherever we are being deployed. The first 72 hours are crucial as after that, chances of those trapped surviving is minimum. We are thus deploying all resources to save as many lives as possible." NDRF sources said the UAVs will also help in locating <keyword id="19414" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="survivors">survivors</keyword> in half-collapsed buildings and use it to look through balconies or windows for any trapped victims. "We are already using eight sniffer dogs to find any signs of life in the debris," said Rai. 
 
To ease the burden on Nepal, NDRF has been supplied 33 vehicles to ferry injured to the hospital by SSB which guards the Indo-Nepal border. 
 
NDRF has extracted eight people alive from quake debris and fished out 33 bodies till now. "We were the first foreign team to reach Nepal. More teams are coming from other countries now and Monday onwards the scale of rescue operations is going to widen further. We hope the figure of those rescued alive from under the debris will go up significantly," said Rai.

Kochi, May 12 () Kerala's Kasaragod district, one ofthe first COVID-19 hotspots in India, turned coronavirus-freeon Sunday.The north Kerala district, which lacked improved healthinfrastructure compared to others in the state, had witnessedzero death.But the relief was short-lived as fresh coronavirus caseswere reported from the district on Monday.Four people who had arrived from Maharashtra were foundinfected with the deadly virus, commencing the second wave ofCOVID-19 in the district.However, top police official Vijay Sakhare, whose "triplelock" strategy helped the district keep the virus at bay,said there was nothing to worry as the situation could verywell be managed by implementing the same strategy forcefully.The triple lock involves a combination of technology andhuman surveillance and restricting movement of people in threestages.While Lock-I envisages broader restriction of movement ofall people residing in the district, Lock-II is for peopleliving in distinct geographical areas with positive cases andthe third stage is targeted effort to keep primary andsecondary contacts of COVID-19 patient in their homes.The IG ranking officer who was deputed by Chief MinisterPianarayi Vijayan as COVID-19 special officer of Kasaragod onMarch 23, implemented the triple lock strategy and thiseffective policing measure helped arrest the spread of thevirus.The same strategy was implemented in neighbouring Kannurdistrict and earned positive results when it was turning tobecome another COVID-19 hotpspot. In a note prepared by Sakhare on "triple lock strategy",he spoke of the new challenges after people returning throughinter-state land borders, including those from red-zoneshave been permitted to undergo 14 day quarantine at theirhomes.The international returnees have been asked to observemandatory quarantine in institutional centres or hotels. "Many of these evacuated persons may turn COVID positiveafter returning home. Some of them may be symptomatic carriersof COVID-19 and a few may be asymptomatic.In order to meet these challenges and prevent spread ofinfection in community, 'triple-lock' strategy has to bescaled up," the officer said in the note."The new returnees to Kasaragod have to be brought underthe umbrella of Lock-III," said Sakhare, the Kochi City PoliceCommissioner who returned from Kasaragod last week aftercompletion of his special assignment.Talking to , he said the residences of the returneesshould be monitored continuously by stationing police guardsin front of select houses, by covering residences of homequarantined people with mobile patrols, which check physicalpresence of the person at least twice a day.This would be done by deploying drones in 'drone-beat'over these homes and by using COVID-Safety app.Legal action should be initiated against the violatorsand their family members for endangering the lives of othersin the society, the senior IPS officer said.Another challenge is to ensure that those people who stayat 'institutional quarantine centres' observe quarantineproperly and do not socialise with each other.An officer at least of the rank of Sub-inspector shouldbe made in-charge of the centre. He should ensure that noperson visited any of the inmates or no inmates stepped out atany point of time.The COVID Safety app should be installed in everyinmate's phone to ensure that the person does not violatequarantine, Sakhare said.Similar system should be in place in hotels as well.The hotel staff has to be trained in maintainingquarantine and ensuring that it was observed by the returnees.Sharing his experience as the COVID-19 officer inKasaragod district, Sakhare said the results of the triplelock strategy have demonstrated that it was extremelysuccessful in containing the spread of virus."The success of strategy can be gauged from the fact thatit has brought weekly reporting of cases from 64 to barely 5with in the span of three weeks - a reduction of 92 per cent. In succeeding three weeks, only 5,4 and 2 positive caseswere reported and in last 11 days since 1st May, no positivecases were reported- which demonstrates the resounding successof the containment strategy," he claimed.The last Corona positive patient of the first wave ofCOVID-19 in Kasaragod recovered on May 10 and the districtbecame COVID-free.
