The public issue includes an offer for sale as well as fresh issue, and the proceeds from the fresh issue will be used towards repayment and prepayment of loans, funding working capital requirement, investment in product development and general corporate purposes. “Due to their leadership and first-mover advantage, they have been able to improve users' experiences by incorporating consumer data and ongoing technological advancements,” says Stoxbox, which had a ‘subscribe’ rating on the issue for the benefit of listing gains.

IdeaForge IPO subscribed 50 times over on last day with strong retail demand

<ul><li>Defence, road and rail spending by the government is aiding growth in capital goods companies.</li><li>Due to the long-term nature of government spending, tendering momentum will go on till FY30, says Motilal Oswal Securities.</li><li>Wait for a good entry point in capital goods stocks, say analysts, as they have seen a good run in recent times.</li><li>Digital and green infrastructure-based ordering led by the private sector can also aid growth in a few players. </li></ul>India is building more roads, expanding railways and defence orders are trickling in. That’s good news for capital goods companies which also got another near-term boost in the form of lowered political risk; after the national ruling party BJP secured mandates in three states. According to Motilal Oswal Securities, with government spending on metros, water projects, transmission and more, the stage has been set for a ‘decadal growth opportunity’. Driven by long-term structural tailwinds, the sector is all set for a healthy revenue compounded annual growth rate (CAGR), it adds. The government has already spent 47% of what it budgeted for FY24, in the first half of the fiscal year. Private sector, which is spending less, is moving towards automation and green infrastructure, providing smaller but steady orders. In the second quarter, the manufacturing sector grew 13.9%, hitting a nine-quarter high – all indicating that good times are ahead of capital goods companies. The ‘expanding pie’ Government’s capex is projected to grow to ₹17 lakh crore in FY24 as compared to ₹13.5 lakh crore in FY23. With healthy tax collections, there are few doubts on the government’s ability to keep up the pace. “Government has outlined various capex plans for transmission, railways, highways, water, and defense indigenization as well as several PLI schemes. Though we believe that these targets are aggressive as compared to past runrates, even a 60-70% achievement ratio of the said targets can result in significant long-term opportunity for the sector,” says Motilal Oswal Securities. Most of the government’s spending plans are for the long-term too. And this will keep the tendering process busy till FY30, analysts expect. Companies too are all set to gain from the growth, by expanding capacities. “Demand-supply gaps, improved pricing and confidence over sustenance of capex momentum — all have triggered expansion in manufacturing capacities across companies; especially eyeing the latest revival seen in the power sector,” said a report by IIFL Securities. Wait for entry points say analysts Driven by robust order inflows, expanding margins due to lowered raw material cost, most companies in the sector gained significantly in the last few months, barring a few exceptions. That has altered the risk to reward profile of the sector. L&amp;T and <keyword id="6425802" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bharat-electronics" source="Orion">Bharat Electronics</keyword> are IIFL’s preferred bets on the relative risk-reward trade-offs. Motilal Oswal also has a Buy recommendation on L&amp;T, ABB, Siemens, <keyword id="113731" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="cummins" source="Orion">Cummins</keyword>, and a ‘neutral’ stance on Bharat Electronics, Thermax and KEC. “We are positive on the business models of these companies but would look for better entry points owing to unfavorable risk reward at current valuations,” it adds. As more companies go towards digitization and the cloud, companies that provide HVAC and cooling systems are also expected to bring in orders for companies like Siemens, ABB to gain from the same. Such orders are also expected to come from the private sector whose capex spending has been sluggish and patchy this year. While there has been an uptick in sectors like cement, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, telecom, food &amp; beverages, and metals &amp; mining, most of the spending is veering towards sustainability. “We see select pockets where opex-led spend towards greener sources of energy and sustainability is happening. We expect the private capex cycle to take some more time to revive,” says Motilal Oswal. Tata Technologies gave a stellar triple-digit listing gains, IREDA was very close to doubling wealth with 87% gains and small-cap stock Gandhar too presented a pleasant surprise with 78% gains. Those who were lucky enough to be allotted these stocks are left with the question — should I sell or hold on for more gains in the future? Experts say that bumper gains are a cue for them to make money, especially in stocks which saw sharp gains. “The recent IPOs of Tata Technologies, IREDA, Gandhar Oil were attractively priced. Therefore, they saw bumper gains on listing day. We believe that investors are better off by selling such shares and locking in listing gains. In most cases, stocks do give opportunity to re-enter at lower levels,” Apurva Sheth, head of market perspectives &amp; research at SAMCO Securities tells Business Insider India. ‘IPO value not true value’ The IPO season of 2023 has been rewarding for investors. The average listing gain has been 29.4% for debuts till the first half of the year, according to Primedatabase. But companies that saw stellar listing gains like Ideaforge shed a part of its value over time. The stock performance of other debut-stars like Netweb Technologies, Aeroflex Industries and Utkarsh Small Finance Bank has been tepid after stellar listing gains. Vishnu prakash R Punglia and Cyient DLM however are exceptions. Extremely high investor interest, heavy subscriptions in the IPO period can turn the needle away from true valuations and their future potential, experts insist. “IPOs generating a strong buzz due to a unique business model, effective publicity and good brand identity can post a fair listing gain even in the event of lower earnings visibility, as a result of high demand from investors. If an investor is subscribing to such IPOs, they should look to book listing gains,” Sunil Shah, group CEO and MD at Khambatta Securities tells Business Insider India. Sell (Gandhar), Hold (Tata Tech) &amp; Accumulate (IREDA) Amongst freshly listed pack of companies, Prashanth Tapse, senior VP of research at Mehta Equities advises allotted investors of Tata Tech to book 50% profits if the stock moves over ₹1,400 and hold the rest for long term, as he believes the engineering R&amp;D major is a potential ‘doubler candidate’. The stock had closed at ₹1,314 on its debut on Thursday. At the same time, Tapse sees limited upside from the current levels for Gandhar Oil, which has managed to narrow the gap with peers. He advises its investors to book profits. For IREDA, he advises investors to ‘hold for long term’ and accumulate on dips as it holds the potential to provide healthy long term returns. “Companies with strong fundamentals, i.e. those with a proven solid business model and robust earnings visibility, are the ones investors should look to stay invested in,” says Shah. investors The IPO rush tends to ignore facts like overpriced issues and other troubles. The reason being the <keyword id="10639565" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ipo-financing" source="Orion">IPO financing</keyword> that large investors receive, who apply and sell immediately on allotment. But this liquidity leaves the stock, and that’s what drives prices down, insist experts. “IPO financing does drive up the demand for IPOs due to the additional liquidity it infuses, and it further brings in more investors looking for listing gains. That said, the recent curb on IPO financing imposed by the RBI and changes announced by SEBI relating to the allocation methodology are expected to negatively impact IPO financing,” said Shah. The impact of IPO financing driving up listing day gains is reducing. In April 2022, RBI mandated non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) to not lend more than ₹1 crore per borrower for subscribing in IPOs. Markets regulator SEBI too mandated to keep one third of the HNI quota shares for applicants below ₹10 lakh, which is also known as small HNI category. “All these measures led to considerable reduction in IPO financing. This has led to limited impact on the listing day,” says Sheth. Sheth also insists that IPOs are generally overpriced and retail investors are better off without participating in them. He insists that retail investors should get into newly listed six months after listing wherein the stock has had time to cool off and consolidate. In the September quarter, 21 mainboard IPOs raised as much as $1.77 billion – marking a 3.7x growth in amount rates and 4.2x growth in number of deals. The SME IPO market too recorded significant success by raising $165.7 million via 48 IPOs in the third quarter of 2023. And this momentum will go on for another another, predicts the consulting firm’s IPO trends report. “The IPO landscape is witnessing a surge in activity driven by both an urge to tap the capital markets pre-or-post Indian general elections and strong economic activity, positive domestic and foreign investor sentiment towards India. This momentum is expected to continue well into H2 2024,” said Adarsh Ranka, partner and financial accounting advisory services leader, member firm of EY Global. The pipeline ahead is strong with over 25 companies filing their Draft Red Herring Prospectuses (DRHPs) in Q3. It demonstrates a strong intent to raise funds in the upcoming quarters, the report opines. The three largest IPOs in Q3 were RR Kable, Concord Biotech, and SAMHI Hotels. Key sectors contributing to this IPO surge included diversified industrial products, consumer products and retail, and technology. “Market optimism is attributed to several factors, including the US recession, the Federal Reserve's pause in interest rate hikes, and inflation. Companies are striving to file for IPOs before the 2024 Indian elections, with the demand for IPOs surging this year compared to 2022,” says E&amp;Y. Listing gains and more IPOs This year’s tranche of IPOs also rewarded their investors with positive listing gains. According to Pranav Haldea, managing director of PRIME Database Group, IPO response was further buoyed by strong listing performance. The average listing gain increased to 29.4% in the first half of 2022-23. Ideaforge with 93% returns, Utkarsh Small Finance Bank with 92% and Netweb Technologies with 82% returns are some of the best performing IPOs. “The markets continue to reward companies with robust, scalable, and well-governed business models,” says E&amp;Y. In line with primary market fund raises, August 2023 also witnessed a remarkable $5.2 billion in <keyword id="3472800" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pe/vc-investments" source="Orion">PE/VC investments</keyword>. This is a 127% increase compared to August 2022 and an 18% increase from July 2023. <keyword id="12977634" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pe/vc-exits" source="Orion">PE/VC exits</keyword> reached $4.3 billion across 37 deals, marking a 35% year-over-year increase in value.

Also, its stellar subscription numbers might push people who have applied for the stock not allotted to try and buy on the first day. Tata Technologies IPO which broke a record with the number of applications is expected. The QIB portion of the issue was subscribed 200 times over the shares on offer. The non-institutional and retail investors’ interest paled in comparison as these quotas were subscribed 62 times and 16 times respectively. Thanks to the buzz, an analyst said that it could provide super-premium listing gains. Not only does the engineering R&amp;D player have a well-established business model, the Tata name worked wonders for the interest in the stock. “There is a high possibility that Tata Technologies can be a doubler candidate post listing. Given the growth potential in outsourcing, the business model would be in great demand going forward. We recommend allotted investors to book 50% profits over and above our expectations and retain the rest for the long-term,” said Prashanth Tapse, research analyst, senior VP of research at Mehta Equities.
