The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class X results on Monday. The overall <keyword id="20123359" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pass-percentage" source="keywords">pass percentage</keyword> of 93.60 per cent was recorded. Passing percentage has increased by 0.48 per cent since last year. 25724 schools gave the CBSE class X examinations at 7603 centres. The Trivandrum region registered the highest pass percentage at 99.75 per cent whereas the lowest has been recorded at Guwahati which stood at 77.94 per cent. In the overall Delhi region, a 98.61 per cent pass percentage was recorded. 94.75 per cent of Girls passed the exam whereas 92.71 per cent of boys passed the exam with the Girls outshining boys by 2.04 per cent. Students who sat for the CBSE Class 10 board exams nationwide can view their mark sheets on the <keyword id="21637011" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CBSE-official-website" source="keywords">CBSE official website</keyword>, cbse.gov.in. The other official websites where CBSE 10th results can be checked are - cbseresults.nic.in, results.cbse.nic.in, cbse.nic.in, digilocker.gov.in, results.gov.in. The results can also be checked on mobile apps- Digilocker and UMANG. In regards to the Class 10 exams, CBSE stated that Science, Mathematics, and Social Science were chosen by 22,62,692 students each. These exams took place over three days at 7612 examination centres, utilising 94,279 rooms, with the assistance of 1,88,558 Assistant Superintendents. CBSE class X examinations were held from February 15 to March 13, 2024. Approximately 39 lakh students appeared for Class 10 and 12 examinations. Students must score a minimum of 33 per cent marks to pass the CBSE class 10 and 12 exams. Looking at the past year's trends, in 2023, the CBSE results were announced on May 12. While in the year 2022, it was declared on July 22. Earlier, CBSE declared Class XII. 87.98 per cent of students passed the board exams. Passing percentage increased by 0.65 per cent since last year. 18417 schools gave the CBSE class XII examinations at 7126 centres. This year the overall pass percentage is 87.98 a 0.65 percent increase since 2023. The Trivandrum region registered the highest pass percentage at 99.91 per cent. CBSE Class 10 board exam results declared

Over 65 lakh students did not pass <keyword id="19951608" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="class-10" source="keywords">class 10</keyword> and 12 <keyword id="19954615" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="board-exams" source="keywords">board exams</keyword> across the country last year with the failure rate being higher in <keyword id="22866974" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-boards" source="keywords">state boards</keyword> than the central board, according to Ministry of Education (<keyword id="20349630" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MoE" source="keywords">MoE</keyword>) officials. An analysis of class 10 and 12 results of 59 school boards, including 56 state boards and three national boards, revealed that more girls appeared in class 12 exam from government-managed schools but it is opposite in private schools and government-aided schools. "Around 33.5 lakh students of class 10 are not reaching next grade. While 5.5 lakh candidates did not appear, 28 lakh failed. This is one of the cause for low retention rate and Gross Enrolment Ration (GER) at higher secondary level," a senior MoE official said. Similarly, around 32.4 lakh class 12 students did not complete the grade. While 5.2 lakh did not appear, 27.2 lakh failed. In class 10, the student failure rate in central board stood at 6 per cent while that of state boards was much higher at 16 per cent. In class 12, the failure rate at central board is 12 per cent while that of state boards is 18 per cent. The ministry officials noted that the open school performance was poor in both the classes. The highest number of student failure in class 10 was in Madhya Pradesh board followed by Bihar and UP. While in class 12, the highest student failure was reported from Uttar Pradesh followed by Madhya Pradesh. "Overall performance of students in 2023 declined in comparison with previous year. This could be due to larger syllabus for examination," the official said. More girls appeared for class 10 and 12 board exams from government schools than boys. "This may reflect gender bias while spending on education by parents. However, girls dominates in pass performance across government, aided and private schools," the official said. Over 65 lakh students failed class 10, 12 exams in 2023; higher failure rate in state boards: MoE

Shubham Verma, also from Sitapur, stood first in the <keyword id="19981413" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Class-12" source="keywords">Class 12</keyword> exam with 97.80 per cent," Education (Secondary) Director Mahendra Dev told PTI. The board conducted the examination in a "record-breaking" number of days, Dev said. "For the first time, the exam was conducted in a record 12 working days. The evaluation of answer sheets was completed in the same number of working days," he added. The officer said 27,49,364 (27.49 lakh) candidates -- 14,39,243 (14.39 lakh) boys and 13,10,121 (13.10 lakh) girls -- appeared for the Class 10 exam. Of the total, 86.05 per cent boys and 93.40 per cent girls cleared the exam. For Class 12, the number of candidates was 24,52,830 (24.52 lakh) -- 13,41,356 (13.41 lakh) boys and 11,11,474 (11.11 lakh) girls, Dev said. The pass percentage was 77.78 for boys and 88.42 for girls.

The class 10 exams will conclude on March 13 and the class 12 exams will end on April 2. "While preparing the date sheet, the board has kept in mind that there is sufficient gap between two subjects. Dates of competitive exams like JEE have been kept in mind while deciding schedule for class 12," Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said.

For theory papers, 30 pc weightage has been given to first term marks, while 70 pc weightage has been given to second term marks. The Supreme Court on Thursday said the ongoing exam process cannot be suddenly made online, which may result in rescheduling the examination, as it junked a plea by a group of students seeking directions to conduct term exams for Classes 10 and 12 for the <keyword id="6356155" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cbse" source="Orion">CBSE</keyword> and ICSE boards via hybrid mode, rather than physical. A bench comprising Justices A.M. Khanwilkar and C.T. Ravikumar told the petitioners' counsel: "Don't mess up with the education system. Let the authorities continue their work..." The bench noted that if the court were to interfere at this stage, it may lead to practical difficulties as the exams have already commenced. The bench told senior advocate <keyword id="4752448" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sanjay-hedge" source="Orion">Sanjay Hedge</keyword>, representing the petitioners: "Exams are going on. Let us be practical. Now how can it be online...It's too late now and exams cannot be rescheduled." Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, assured the top court that Covid concerns have been taken care of and all necessary precautions have been put in place, to conduct the exams. Mehta said: "Earlier 40 students sat in a class, but now only 12 students will be sitting in a class so that there is social distancing. Number of exam centers has been increased to 15,000..." Noting that the petitioners have moved the top court late, the bench said the last-minute business should not be encouraged and declined to entertain the petition. The petitioners argued that the CBSE and ICSE boards, conducting exams via physical mode, are acting in contravention of Covid guidelines. The exams for Classes 10 and 12 students for the academic year 2021-22 are scheduled to be held from November 16 and November 22. The petitioners contended that about 26,000 schools are affiliated to the <keyword id="64578" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cbse-board" source="Orion">CBSE Board</keyword> alone and at any rate, such continuous exposure through offline exams sharply increases the risk of infection to Covid-19 rendering the impugned action as arbitrary and in violation of right to health. The observation from the top court after it was informed that the CBSE has decided to cancel the remaining board exams for Class 10 and Class 12. A bench comprising Justices A.M. Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjiv Khanna asked the Centre to clarify the issue of taking the option between internal assessment and exams later. "Clarify the date of results," said the bench, noting that the CBSE will have to submit a fresh draft notification cancelling class 12 Board exams and affidavit on Friday morning, before the top court continues to hear the matter again at 10.30 a.m. The apex court also sought clarity on the beginning of the new academic year. It told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, that the CBSE is willing to conduct exams when the situation is conducive, but this may vary from state to state. "Will the decision be taken by a central authority or will the state government take the decision? How are you going to deal with that situation?" Mehta replied that the decision must be taken according to the situation. To this, the bench said should not the solution be pan-India? "You have not said when you will decide on this issue, and when you will take stock of these things. Some time frame will have to be given," noted the bench. Continuing its queries, the bench said: "What about state regional board exams... the CBSE does not hold all the exams. The state Board is also there." Mehta replied that the instructions from the controller of examinations are that exams are controlled centrally. "State boards assist the CBSE," he replied. The bench observed that the government should modify the draft notification and include the state board issue. "Clear the stand that decision will be taken at the central level and not at the state level... other courses will have to be delayed till CBSE exam results come out," it said. Mehta replied the assessment results will be published now, and if a student wants to opt to give the exam, then that will be conducted later. The top court asked Mehta to bring this on record and redraft the notification.
