The company's net profit in the quarter ended in September 2021 was at ₹ 445 crore. The net premium earned by the private sector insurer during July-September 2022-23 was up at ₹ 95.82 crore as against ₹ 92.86 crore in the same period of 2021-22, ICICI Pru said in a regulatory filing. However, total income decreased by 2.4 per cent to ₹ 226.42 crore from ₹ 231.88 crore in the year-ago period, mainly because of fall in investment income. The investment income in Q2FY23 was down by 6.1 per cent to ₹130.22 crore from ₹ 138.74 crore in Q2FY22. The decrease in investment income is primarily on account of the decrease in market value of the securities held, the company said. The value of new business (<keyword id="3781272" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="vnb" source="Orion">VNB</keyword>), a key measure of profitability, posted strong growth of 25.1 per cent at ₹ 1,092 crore in the first half of FY2023, the insurer said. The company said its persistency ratios improved across all cohorts with the 13th month ratio, which is representative of the quality of business, standing at 85.9 per cent for H1-FY23, an improvement of 80 bps from year ago period. "On the back of this strong VNB growth and with a favourable premium base for the coming months, we believe we are on track to achieve our objective of doubling our FY2019 VNB by the end of this fiscal year," N S Kannan, MD &amp; CEO, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance said. He said the two focus areas of annuity and protection, which represent underserved needs of the country, have also done well in the period. ICICI Pru Life Q2 net declines 55% to ₹199 cr

New Delhi, Dec 24 () Markets regulator Sebi has imposed a total penalty of Rs 5 lakh on ICICI Prudential Trust and ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company for not exercising due diligence while making investment decisions.
 The matter relates to ICICI MF's scheme -- ICICI Prudential FMCG Fund -- which was launched in March 1999 and as per the scheme information document (SID), the objective of the scheme was to generate long-term capital appreciation through investments made primarily in equities of select group of companies in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector.
 The regulator noted that investments were made in companies other than those in the FMCG industry which was against the mandate of the scheme and in violation of Sebi's rules and thereby ICICI Prudential AMC violated regulations.
 Further, Sebi said ICICI Prudential Trust delegated the responsibility of the trustees to the asset management company (AMC) for declaring dividend and fixing the record date for distribution of dividend declaring dividend.
 Sebi noted that trustees, being under such trust obligation ought to ensure that the timing and the quantum of distribution of dividend is in the best interest of investors and to prevent the AMC from giving benefit to select investors at the cost of maximum number of investors. "If the timing of declaration of dividend as well as quantum of dividend are decided by another entity i.e. the AMC, it will compromise the regulatory framework prescribed in this regard," it added.
 "The noticees (ICICI Prudential Trust and ICICI Prudential AMC) have not exercised due diligence in the manner as expected from them while taking decision to make investments in companies not forming part of the FMCG industry and while delegating responsibility of the trustees to AMC for declaring dividend and fixing the record date for distribution of dividend declaring dividend," Sebi said in an order passed on Monday.
 By such activities, the entities have not exercised proper due diligence and also have not exercised independent professional judgement while discharging their responsibilities at the relevant times, it added.
 Accordingly, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has levied a total fine of Rs 5 lakh on them. SP HRS

Sebi slaps Rs 5 lakh on ICICI Pru Trust, ICICI Pru AMC for not exercising due diligence

New Delhi, Jun 11 () ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company on Thursday said it has reappointed M S Ramachandran as an independent director. The current term of appointment of Ramachandran as an independent director of the company will expire on June 28, 2021, it said in a regulatory filing. "In view of this, the board of directors of the company at its meeting held on June 11, 2020, has approved the reappointment of Ramachandran as an independent director of the company for another term of five consecutive years, with effect from June 29, 2021 till June 28, 2026," it said. The reappointment, it said, is subject to approval of the members of the company. Further, the board also approved continuation of Ramachandran as the chairman of the company during his term as an independent director, it said. ICICI Pru Life reappoints M S Ramachandran as independent director

New Delhi, Jan 21 () Shares of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company on Tuesday ended marginally up after the firm reported a slight increase in net income.
 The stock opened at Rs 488 and gained 0.12 per cent to close at Rs 489 on the BSE.
 On the NSE, the scrip rose 0.44 per cent to settle at Rs 490.45.
 In terms of volume, 1.84 lakh shares were traded on the BSE and more than 55 lakh units exchanged hands on the NSE.
 Moreover, spurt in volume was more than 5.26 times on the BSE.
 Private sector life insurer ICICI Prudential Life on Tuesday reported a marginal increase in net income to Rs 302 crore, despite a 33 per cent rise in growth in new business income and a spike in margins for the December 2019 quarter.
 The company's net income remained flat at Rs 302 crore against Rs 297 crore in the December 2018 quarter, while a spike in protection portfolio helped it improve margin to 21 per cent in the reporting quarter from 17 per cent a year ago. RUJ SHW

ICICI Pru Life shares marginally up on Q3 earnings

Mumbai, Jan 6 () The US-Iran standoff can pull down Indian equities and small caps are expected to be dominant investment themes in the markets, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund said on Monday.
The extent to which geo-political tension in the Middle East can hurt the domestic markets, however, cannot be predicted, the second largest asset manager's chief investment officer S Naren told reporters here.
The small cap segment is set to dominante the landscape for the next three to five years, after under-performing for two years, he added.
The large caps are extremely over-valued at present making them a no-go area, despite the vital roles that the companies are playing, he said.
Naren said the house is maintaining its call on investments in the asset allocation, wherein schemes shift between debt and equity for the second consecutive year due to difficulties on the overall front.
"We are in a moderate returns world till the (corporate) deleveraging is over and hence, we have created products like this," he said, speaking on the asset allocation product launched few years ago.
Debt schemes have given good returns in the recent years if one were to consider the tax benefits and the security because of low volatilities, Naren said.
On concerns over debt schemes, where a few bets for the AMCs have gone awry, the company's managing director Nimesh Shah claimed that the company has not had any delayed repayment on its loans under the debt schemes for the last 21 years.
Naren said small caps are definitely a risk but advised investors to play the same to get handsome returns by staying invested for three to five years. In times of low credit growth, it is essential for investors to take such bets, he added.
India is a stable economy with risk parameters like current account deficit, low credit growth and inflation being in the green, while the troubles are largely stemming from lacklustre uptick in factory output, which makes debt a profitable asset class, he said.
On the standoff in the Gulf region, he said nothing can be predicted for sure and all depends on the extent Iran reacts.
Last year's drone attacks on Saudi Arabian oil assets was presumed to be the trigger for a rally in crude but the same subsided in a week, he said. AA BAL

US-Iran standoff to pull down Indian equities: ICICI Pru

New Delhi, Nov 26 () Two asset management companies -- ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund and HDFC Mutual Fund -- on Tuesday said they have received payments to the tune of Rs 437 crore from Subhash Chandra's Essel Group.
 Individually, ICICI Prudential MF has got Rs 270 crore as repayment and interest from the Essel Group, while the same for HDFC MF has been pegged at Rs 167 crore.
 With this repayment, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund's exposure to Essel Group has come down to nil.
 "Pursuant to the sale of shareholding by the promoters of ZEEL, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund has received repayment of the total principal amount invested along with the accrued interest thereon. Subsequently, as on date, none of the schemes of ICICI Prudential MF have any investments in debt instruments issued by the promoter group companies of ZEEL," the fund house spokesperson said.
HDFC MF said that the company holds certain non-convertible debentures (NCDs) of the Essel Group that are secured by a pledge of listed equity shares. The carrying value of these NCDs as at September 30, 2019 was Rs 275.63 crore.
 "The company has received a total of Rs 166.86 crore towards part repayment of the said NCDs and interest thereon, from the issuer through sale of certain listed equity shares comprising part of the collateral. The value of the residual pledged listed equity shares as at November 25, 2019 is Rs 143.95 crore," the fund house informed the stock exchanges.
 On Monday, Subhash Chandra resigned as chairman of his flagship company Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) with immediate effect. He will remain the company's non-executive director, which he founded in 1992.
 His resignation came at a time when the debt-ridden group is looking to further divest promoters' stake in the company to repay the debts
 Essel Group on November 20 had said it is planning to sell 16.5 per cent stake in its flagship ZEEL to financial creditors to meet its loan repayment obligations.
 In September, the group had sold 11 per cent stake in ZEEL to Invesco-Oppenheimer fund for over Rs 4,224 crore and then retired debt worth Rs 4,000 crore.
 Atlanta-based Invesco already held 7.74 per cent stake in ZEEL since 2002.
 Promoter and promoter group shareholding in the company went down to 22.37 per cent in the quarter ended September 30, from 35.79 per cent in the quarter ended June 30. SP SHW

ICICI Pru MF, HDFC MF receive payments from Essel Group

Mumbai, Apr 25 () Private sector ICICI Prudential Life on Saturday said a staggering Rs 18,898 crore loss on its investments and a robust growth in the cash-burning protection policy sales have led to an over 31 per cent dip in net income for the March quarter at Rs 179.5 crore.The city-based insurer, which recorded an over 12.5 per cent growth in the high margin new businesses (VNB) at Rs 470 crore, said its losses from market investments stood at Rs 18,898 crore against a profit of Rs 5,839 crore a year ago as the key market indices plunged more than 35 per cent in March alone.Even otherwise, its net premium income rose a tepid 4.17 per cent to Rs 10,475 crore from 10,056 crore a year ago.Protection premium jumped 55 per cent in the year taking the overall share of this to 15 per cent of total business up from 5 per cent a year ago. The rise in protection policy sale has also led to a the fall in net income as regulation demands upfront full cover for each policy sold.However, for the full fiscal, the company reported a net profit of Rs 1,069 crore, still down 6.31 per cent from a year ago as the total value of new business income, which is the high margin business for an insurer, rose over 21.7 per cent to Rs 1,605 crore and the VNB margin increased from 17 in FY19 to 21.7 per cent in FY20.With an average premium equivalent of Rs 7,381 crore the margin of value of new business was 21.7 per cent compared to 17 per cent for FY2019, primarily on account of increase in protection business, which grew in high double digits, chief executive and managing director N S Kannan told in a post-earnings concall.Its average premium equivalent came in at Rs 7,381 crore for FY20, a drop of 5.36 percent from Rs 7,799 crore for FY19.The solvency ratio declined to 194.1 from 214.9 for the quarter and to 194.1 from 214.9 for the full year which Kannan described as of higher maturities and also due to a marginal increase in claim settlements including two COVID-19 death claims.On the impact of the pandemic, Kannan said the company has seen a massive spike in protection covers since the March and April and also use of the digital platforms for claims and servicing. Whether they will retrench people given the gloomy market and economic condition at least in the first and second quarters due to the pandemic Kannan answered in the negative."No, we have no plans to retrench anyone, nor we are planning salary cuts for anyone. While the management and senior staff will not seek an increment, we will be offering a marginal hike to junior employees, especially the sales force, "Kannan said.He said digital sales are in double-digits since the lockdown and they have seen 40-50 per cent jump in digital transactions in terms of queries etc. While our chatbot usage is up 42 per cent Whatsapp usage is up 65 per cent and mobile app login has gone up by 94 per cent, he said. On the outlook for the full fiscal, he said "demand will come back, as there is huge demand for protection policy."Kannan also said the share of their Ulips came down to 65 percent in March 2020 from 80 per cent earlier. New business received premium grew at a healthy rate of 20 per cent from Rs 10,252 crore in FY19 to Rs 12,348 crore in FY20. Annuity new business premium registered grew 52 per cent from Rs 685 crore in FY19 to Rs 1,043 crore in FY20.Protection policies registered a healthy growth of 55 per cent from Rs 722 crore in FY19 to Rs 1116 crore in FY20. The protection mix improved from 9.3 per cent of APE in FY19 to 15.1 per cent of APE for FY20. ICICI Pru Life Q4 net profit slips 31% to Rs 179.5 crore

Market watchdog SEBI has come out with a consultation paper in a bid to ease the functioning of <keyword id="22476006" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ESG-Rating-Providers" source="keywords">ESG Rating Providers</keyword> (ERPs), pushing for the development of a <keyword id="23760035" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="subscriber-pays-model" source="keywords">subscriber-pays model</keyword>. As of July 2024, nine ERPs are registered with SEBI to operate in the country. These include <keyword id="23760037" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CRISIL-ESG-Ratings" source="keywords">CRISIL ESG Ratings</keyword> &amp; Analytics, ESG Risk Assessments and Ratings, GlobeTrend Climate Impact Institutional Investor Advisory Services, <keyword id="23760038" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSE-Sustainability-Ratings" source="keywords">NSE Sustainability Ratings</keyword> and Analytics, PGS Impact, Pragati Development Consulting, CARE ESG Ratings, and SES ESG Research. Per the paper's proposal, ERPs won't be required to disclose ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings to the bourses, provided they confirm that there is no non-public information that could potentially affect the rating. Another proposal was the simultaneous sharing of the ESG rating reports both to the rated companies and to the subscribers who pay to access these reports. ERPs should ensure that rated entities, their group companies, or associates cannot subscribe to their own ESG ratings, SEBI said in its consultation paper. Some of the other suggestions put forth by SEBI include: 1. Companies will have a specific timeframe to respond to the ESG report, and any such comments should be included in the report as an addendum. 2. In case the ERP does not agree with the remarks issued by the rated company, they can add their comments to the report as well. 3. ERPs can rate unlisted issuers or other products, provided they meet specific guidelines from relevant regulators. SEBI is receiving public comment on these proposals until November 15, 2024. <h2>Steady returns </h2>Of the 11 ESG mutual fund schemes available to Indian mutual fund investors, the Quant ESG Equity fund has generated the highest returns of about 45.44% over one year, data from ValueResearch showed. Simply put, had you invested Rs 10,000 every month in this fund for three years, you would have accumulated a corpus of Rs 5,47,525. Over three years, the returns on this fund come to around 26%. This was followed by the ICICI Pru ESG Exclusionary Strategy fund, which yielded 44.73% returns over the same period. However, over ultra-short terms, i.e., 1-3 months, ESG funds have largely delivered negative returns, underscoring their suitability only as a long-term investment avenue. The inflow into these funds were ₹107 billion, the highest in the last seven months. People invest in mutual funds in India for financial security, to grow their wealth as well as to save on taxes. The Indian government allows a rebate on income tax on money invested in mutual funds up to a maximum of ₹150,000 a year to every individual under section 80C of the Income Tax Act. The amount of money coming into mutual funds had slowed down in the last few months as investors became wary of betting more money in the market for a variety of reasons-- from slowing economy to the risk of elections to growing global tensions, both geopolitical and economic. People who have been investing in systematic investment plans -- small monthly investments-- continued their practice. <ul><li>Indian <keyword id="6354776" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telecom">telecom</keyword> major <keyword id="6354287" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharti-airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword> is upping its ante with a $3 billion fundraising. </li><li>However, the fundraise is already in for a good surprise as it has been oversubscribed for $9-10 billion, according to reports.</li><li>The fundraising comes as an important move on <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword>’s part which has to pay up the Adjusted Gross Revenue (<keyword id="349263" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="AGR">AGR</keyword>) dues of ₹28,450 crore as directed by the Supreme Court. </li></ul>After a lot of setbacks last year, Bharti Airtel is trying to keep up in the Indian telecom race with a $3 billion fundraising. The company said on Thursday that its special committee will meet on January 14 to determine the issue price of its $2-billion qualified institutional placement (QIP). The committee will also discuss the issue price and other terms of the up to USD 1 billion FCCBs offer. However, Airtel’s fundraising is already in for a good surprise as it has been oversubscribed for $9-10 billion, three times the quantum of funds to be raised <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/bharti-airtel-receives-subscriptions-up-to-10b/articleshow/73180917.cms">reported ET.</a> According to the report, the likes of Warburg Pincus, JP Morgan Asset Management, Axis MF, Capital Group, ICICI Prudential, SBI MF, Birla MF, HDFC MF and ICICI Pru Mutual Fund, have already moved ahead for the QIP. The fundraising comes as an important move on Airtel’s part which has to pay up the Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues of ₹28,450 crore as directed by the Supreme Court. Subsequently, Airtel had posted a whopping ₹23,045 net crore loss for the second quarter of FY20. The committee meeting on 14th will then meet to consider and determine the issue price of the equity shares (including any discount on the floor price), and the issue price and other terms of the FCCBs, it added. New Delhi, June 24 () Global fund Blackstone on Wednesday raised around USD 300 million (about Rs 2,270 crore) by selling its shares in Embassy Office Parks REIT to monetise part of its investment, sources said. Blackstone was targeting to raise up to USD 257 million (around Rs 1,950 crore), but increased the size of its offer on account of increased demand from institutional investors. Embassy Office Parks REIT is the country's first Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), which was launched last year by realty firm Embassy group and global investment firm Blackstone to raise nearly Rs 5,000 crore. The REIT is listed on the stock exchange. According to sources, Blackstone raised USD 300 million (Rs 2,270 crore) by selling shares/units in the REIT to institutional investors through block deals at Rs 341 per share. Post this deal, Blackstone stake will come down by around 9 per cent from around 55 per cent shareholding earlier. Sources said the demand was to the tune of USD 500 million (nearly Rs 3,800 crore) from both current REIT holders and new institutional investors. Capital Group, CI Funds, ICICI Prudential have increased their holding in the REIT, sources said. New global institutional investors such as Brookfield, Nomura Asset Management, Norges Bank and Pru Sec bought shares, they added. Blackstone will continue to hold the majority stake in Embassy REIT. Embassy group has around 15 per cent stake. Blackstone has deployed over USD 8 billion in the Indian commercial real estate space. Blackstone had proposed to sell units worth USD 250 million (around Rs 1,900 crore) to USD 257 million (around Rs 1,950 crore). When contacted, Blackstone, Embassy group and Embassy Office Parks REIT declined to comment. Meanwhile, Embassy Office Parks REIT distributed Rs 531.67 crore for its unitholders for the quarter ended March and nearly Rs 1,900 crore for the entire last fiscal. The revenue from operations for the fourth quarter of FY20 grew year-on-year by 8 per cent to Rs 543.4 crore. For the full last fiscal, it rose 14 per cent to Rs 2,144.9 crore. Net operating income for the fourth quarter grew by 10 per cent to Rs 461.8 crore. For the full 2019-20 fiscal, it grew by 15 per cent to Rs 1,817 crore. "Our fourth quarter income and distribution payout once again illustrate the stability and resilience of Embassy REIT delivering cash flows that are backed by the covenants of our 160+ largely multinational occupier base,"Â Embassy Office Park CEO Michael Holland had said. Since Embassy REIT listed in April 2019, the company has delivered a total return of 25 per cent. Embassy REIT comprises 26.2 million square feet of completed and operational commercial properties across India. With approximately 7.1 million square feet of on-campus development in the pipeline, the total portfolio spans 33.3 million square feet across seven Grade A office parks and four city-centre office buildings in India's best performing office markets of Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune and the National Capital Region (NCR).
