Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 26 (ANI): Kolkata's iconic Eden Gardens and Mumbai's famous Wankhede stadium are likely going to host the semi-final matches of ICC ODI World Cup 2023 as per sources in ICC. The ODI World Cup 2023 will be played in India from October 5 to November 19, the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai are all set to host the semi-finals of the showpiece event. The host of the 1987 World Cup Eden Gardens, which was won by Allan Border's led Australia will host one of the semi-final matches while the Wankhede stadium, which hosted the final of the 2011 ODI World Cup, won by Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side India will host the other semi-final while Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi stadium is going to host the final match. The sources also confirmed Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune and Thiruvananthapuram as the 12 cities to host ICC ODI World Cup matches. Over the course of 46 days, 48 matches, including three knockout games, are scheduled to be contested. The league matches are likely to be held in 10 cities, with two more cities hosting warm-up games before the main event. A day before the official announcement of the schedule in Mumbai the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Trophy Tour 2023 has been launched on a stratospheric scale, giving fans around the world a unique opportunity to interact with the coveted trophy, ahead of the marquee event in India. The Tour was launched in spectacular fashion, with the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Trophy being launched into the stratosphere, 120,000 feet above the earth, before making a stunning landing at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. The 2023 edition of the Trophy Tour will be the biggest by far, giving the fans a chance to connect with the coveted piece of silverware in various countries and cities around the globe. Starting on June 27, the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Trophy will travel to 18 countries around the world, including Kuwait, Bahrain, Malaysia, USA, Nigeria, Uganda, France, Italy, the United States of America and the host country India. The first full-scale Trophy Tour since 2019, the 2023 edition will provide cricket fans around the globe with a chance to recreate the celebratory and carnival atmosphere witnessed during the marquee event. The Trophy Tour will begin on June 27 in India, travel around the globe and then return to the host nation on September 4.

ICC World Cup 2023: Kolkata, Mumbai likely to host semifinals

The International Cricket Council Board has announced the qualification route to both the Men's and Women's T20 <keyword id="22177" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="world-cup" source="Orion">World Cup</keyword> in 2024, with 12 teams confirmed to get automatic qualification in the men's tournament, to be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States. The <keyword id="6355164" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="icc" source="Orion">ICC</keyword> also confirmed South Africa as the host of the inaugural ICC U-19 Women's T20 World Cup 2023. The top eight teams from the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia along with hosts West Indies and the US, and the next highest-ranked teams on the ICC Men's T20 rankings table as on November 14, 2022 will get automatic qualification for the 2024 men's tournament. If the West Indies finish among the top eight in Australia later this year, three teams will progress based on rankings. If the Caribbean side finishes outside the top eight, only two teams will qualify from the rankings table. Since the tournament will feature 20 teams, the remaining eight spots will be decided through a regional qualification process. The <keyword id="6354756" type="General" weightage="90" keywordseo="BCCI" source="Orion">BCCI</keyword> could lose around Rs 955 crore (USD 116 million) if the central government sticks to its decision to levy a 21.84 per cent <keyword id="45031" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tax" source="Orion">tax</keyword> surcharge on <keyword id="6355164" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICC" source="Orion">ICC</keyword>'s broadcast revenue from the 2023 ODI <keyword id="22177" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Cup" source="Orion">World Cup</keyword>, according to a Board report. India is to host next year's 50-over showpiece in October-November. Tax surcharge refers to "an additional charge, fee, or tax that is added to the cost of a good or service beyond the initially quoted price". A surcharge is often added to an existing tax and is not included in the stated price of the good or service. As per ICC norms, the host nation is required to get <keyword id="6373715" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tax-exemption" source="Orion">tax exemption</keyword> from the government for hosting tournaments organised by the global body. Since India's tax rules don't allow such exemptions, the BCCI has already lost close to Rs 193 crore (USD 23.5 million) as the government didn't exempt tax surcharge for hosting the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup. The BCCI is still fighting that case in the ICC tribunal. "The next ICC major men's event, which is the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, is scheduled to be held in India in the month of October &amp; November in 2023. The BCCI was obligated to deliver a tax exemption or a tax solution to the ICC for this event, latest by April 2022," stated the report circulated among state units ahead of the Board's October 18 AGM in Mumbai. "This timeline was further extended by the ICC Board till 31st May 2022. At the start of this financial year, the BCCI had advised the ICC that in line with the tax order for the 2016 event, it was expected that a 10% (excluding surcharges) tax order could be obtained as an interim measure for the 2023 event within the required time frame. "The ICC has now received a 20% (excluding surcharges) tax order for its broadcast revenue for the 2023 event from the tax authorities in India." According to the BCCI document shared with the state bodies, the adverse impact on the Board's revenue from the ICC, if a 21.84 per cent tax is paid, would be USD 116.47 million. It is understood that the BCCI is still trying to negotiate and bring down the tax surcharge percentage to 10.92 per cent from the existing demand of 21.84. If the BCCI can reduce the tax surcharge to 10.92 per cent, then the revenue loss would be around Rs 430 crore (USD 52.23 million). "The BCCI is currently working with the Ministry of Finance, Government of India and have represented against this 20% (excluding surcharges) tax order at the very highest level and are hopeful that a 10% (excluding surcharges) tax order would be forthcoming shortly. "It is to be noted that any tax cost incurred by the ICC for the 2023 event in India will be adjusted with the BCCI's share of the revenue from the ICC," the report further stated. The BCCI's share from the ICC's central revenue pool for the tenure 2016 to 2023 is USD 405 million (Rs 3336 crore approximately). The ICC is expecting USD 533.29 million (Rs 4400 crores approx) from the broadcasting revenue of the 2023 event in India. The ICC said that it will now work with hosts and participating members to find an appropriate window where the qualification pathway fixtures can be safely and practically rescheduled before the cut-off date of February 28, 2023. The window for rescheduling fixtures has been extended to the latest possible date to provide the best opportunity for qualification to be determined on the field of play. The next series scheduled in the competition is in July this year where Scotland are due to host Nepal and Namibia for six ODIs. The World Cup League 2 is a three-and-half-year competition involving seven teams that are two steps away from the 2023 World Cup. At the culmination of the 21 tri-series, the top three teams in the standings will confirm their place in the World Cup Qualifier 2023. He could also be representing the North Zone in the selection panel. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising former India cricketers Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape and <keyword id="115989" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sulakshana-naik" source="Orion">Sulakshana Naik</keyword> is conducting the interview process for picking up a new selection committee at the headquarters of the board in Mumbai. By Kushan Sarkar New Delhi, May 24 () Tax exemption for future global cricket events in India has once again become a bone of contention between the BCCI and ICC as the former gears up to host the 2021 T20 World Cup and 50-over showpiece event in 2023. The ICC and BCCI have had a long standing feud on tax exemptions since the 2016 World T20 in India. An ICC spokesperson said that both parties are trying to reach an amicable solution. "The ICC and BCCI have been working in partnership to address the issue of tax exemptions for ICC events that is a requirement of the host agreement signed by all parties at the beginning of the cycle in 2015 and this work is ongoing," the spokesperson tod . "There are certain timelines within the agreements that we collectively work towards to ensure we can deliver successful world class events and continue to invest in the sport of cricket. "In addition to this the ICC Board agreed clear timelines for the resolution of the tax issues which we are guided by," the spokesperson added. While the outgoing ICC chairman Shashank Manohar and chief executive Manu Sawhney have been in constant touch with BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, the BCCI top-brass didn't like the tone of mail sent by the parent body's legal head Jonathan Hall. Hall, in his mail, has written about the BCCI not adhering to timelines on committing to tax exemptions as per the agreement. "The tax structure is not decided by the BCCI but by the Indian government. It is our government that decides whether exemption will be possible or not. For the record, Formula One also wasn't given tax exemption," a senior BCCI official told . Prior to 2016 World T20, the BCCI got tax exemptions for global events, as stated in an earlier documentation of the erstwhile Committee of Administrators (COA). Normally, the ICC seeks exemption on excise duties for importing TV production equipment and ticketing. But in this case, Star Sports, which also has the BCCI's home match rights, has a set up in India. This had been the bone of contention during 2016 Word T20 also and that matter is up for hearing in the ICC tribunal. "We understand that as the nomination process of new ICC chairman starts on Tuesday, suddenly there has been a flurry of communication. You can be rest assured that T20 World Cup in 2021 and 2023 ODI World Cup is going nowhere. "As far as timeline is concerned, we had told ICC that unless lockdown is lifted, we can't have discussions with government officials," the influential member said. Even an ICC Board member said that discussions should be on to find a plausible solution as the first deadline for tax exemption was December, 2019. The tax issue finds mention in a COA document of July 6, 2019, when the BCCI legal team was asked to get in touch with a British law firm as legal cases pertaining to ICC falls under the UK law.
