Global VC firm <keyword id="48032" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="blackstone" source="Orion">Blackstone</keyword> on Monday reached a definitive agreement to sell its stake in the Kerala-based software-as-a-service (<keyword id="6395918" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SaaS" source="Orion">SaaS</keyword>) provider <keyword id="95627" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ibs-software" source="Orion">IBS Software</keyword> to global private equity firm Apax for $450 million.<br /><br />Following the transaction, Apax will partner closely with <keyword id="128946" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ibs" source="Orion">IBS</keyword> Software's Founder and Executive Chairman, V.K. Mathews, who will remain the majority shareholder.<br /><br />Founded in 1997, IBS Software provides next-generation SaaS solutions that power the most mission-critical operations at the world's leading aviation, tour and cruise, hospitality, and logistics companies.<br /><br />Backed by a team of 4000 professionals across the world with more than 25 years of deep domain expertise, IBS Software's scalable, cloud-native platform and demonstrated market leadership position it to define the future of mission-critical technology for the travel industry.<br /><br />"This investment is an endorsement of our strategy and our commitment and contribution to the industry, and we have a shared vision with Apax for the future of the business. 	While addressing the SelectUSA Summit, Barack Obama said that the move would attract larger foreign direct investment to the US. He added, "I'm pleased to announce a new action, I'm also taking to make it easier for global companies who are present here today to launch and invest in the US. My administration is going to reform the L-1B visa category, which allows corporations to temporarily move workers from a foreign office to a US office in a faster, simpler way.”

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Two billboards near Tel Aviv were hacked and made to show pro-Hamas messages.</li><li>Images on social media showed billboards displaying images of Hamas soldiers and rocket attacks.</li></ul><p>Hackers took over two Israeli smart billboards and used them to broadcast pro-Hamas messages, reports said.</p><p>The billboards in the region of Tel Aviv <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2023/10/12/billboards-in-tel-aviv-briefly-hacked-to-display-pro-hamas-messages.html">were hijacked for a brief period</a> on Thursday, CNBC reported.</p><p>Israel has seen <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-10-09/cyberattacks-targeting-israel-are-on-the-rise-after-hamas-attack">a surge in cyberattacks</a> since Hamas launched a series of attacks on the country.</p><p>Video footage <a target="_blank" href="https://twitter.com/HeidiBachram/status/1712413161452646900?s=20"><u>posted to X</u></a> showed one of the billboards displaying a montage of the Palestinian flag, along with images of Hamas soldiers, rocket attacks, and a burning Israeli flag.</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2023/10/12/billboards-in-tel-aviv-briefly-hacked-to-display-pro-hamas-messages.html">Hackers</a> "managed to switch the commercials into anti-Israeli, pro-Hamas footage," Gil Messing, chief of staff at Tel Aviv-based cybersecurity firm Check Point Software Technologies, told CNBC.</p><p>He said that the digital incursion was "very marginal ... when you compare it to everything else that's been going on here," and that hackers were aiming to create "fear and discomfort" among the Israeli population.</p><p>Check Point also <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/israeli-cyber-companies-rally-as-digital-physical-assaults-continue-90b457f2?mod=tech_lead_pos5"><u>told The Wall Street Journal</u></a> that it had received reports of Israelis being sent threatening texts and WhatsApp messages from numbers in Yemen and Afghanistan. It comes after parents in Tel Aviv were warned to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/israeli-parents-hostage-video-fears-told-delete-apps-kids-phones-2023-10"><u>delete social-media apps</u></a> from their children's phones over fears that Hamas could broadcast videos of hostages.</p><p>Many of the recent cyberattacks have come <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-10-09/cyberattacks-targeting-israel-are-on-the-rise-after-hamas-attack">from Russian-backed groups</a>, Bloomberg reported. Anonymous Sudan, a hacking group believed to be a front for Russian hackers, claimed responsibility for briefly taking down the website of <a target="_blank" href="https://twitter.com/Jerusalem_Post/status/1710898092055068889"><u>The Jerusalem Post</u></a> on Monday, Bloomberg reported, citing screenshots.</p><p>The "hacktivist" group AnonGhost, meanwhile, hacked a missile-alert app and sent a series of fake notifications, including "death to Israel'' and a swastika, cybersecurity firm Group-IB told Bloomberg.</p><p>Israel has told 1.1 million people in northern Gaza to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/israel-gives-deadline-northern-gaza-evacuate-united-nations-palestine-2023-10"><u>evacuate within 24 hours</u></a>, as it masses troops ahead of an expected ground offensive.</p><p>"Israel is suffering the painful outcomes of the murderous terrorism, and our hearts go out to the families. Israel is at war to restore security and undermine the terrorists' military and governmental capabilities in Gaza. We are ready on other fronts as well and are responding forcefully to anyone trying to attack our sovereignty," said a spokesperson for Israel's National Cyber Directorate.</p><p>"In general, in the cyberspace so far, we have observed mainly 'low-impact' or 'fake' attacks that don't cause major damage to networks or compromise critical infrastructure," he added.</p>

Hackers infiltrated Israeli smart billboards to post pro-Hamas messages, reports say

<ul class="summary-list"><li>North Korea has launched a record-setting number of missiles this year.</li><li>That has led Japan to examine its missile defense, which relies on specially designed warships.</li></ul><p>On November 21, Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force <a href="https://twitter.com/jmsdf_pao_eng/status/1594603428185255936?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1594603428185255936%7Ctwgr%5Ec0969d69bbf79250b4401f00c25b236b7d0d5ba4%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.navalnews.com%2Fnaval-news%2F2022%2F11%2Fjapanese-maya-class-destroyers-test-fire-sm-3-missiles%2F" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that its two newest destroyers, JS Maya and JS Haguro, had successfully conducted anti-ballistic missiles tests off the coast of Hawaii.</p><p>The announcement means Japan now has eight mission-capable ballistic-missile defense destroyers, and comes amid a record-setting series of missile tests by North Korea, with <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-63672399?fbclid=IwAR1EsKAZB-ilkpQ9lc5YKDmOjlZOoW2c3XMeWZOrjQLX0vr8qUiF_VxDwOk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">over 50 missiles</a> launched in the past two months and eight ICBMs since January.</p><p>At least one of those missiles, launched on October 3, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/03/world/asia/japan-north-korea-missile.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">flew directly over</a> the Japanese mainland — the first to do so in five years.</p><p>The launches have forced Japan to examine its unique ballistic-missile defense system, which relies heavily on specially equipped warships to intercept incoming missiles.</p><h2>Ballistic-missile defense</h2><div type="image" title="Japan JS Haguro fires SM-3 missile" height="1500" width="2000" msid="96264719" hostid="261" sizebytes="68896"></div><p>Japan began developing its <a href="https://www.mod.go.jp/en/d_architecture/missile_defense/index.html?fbclid=IwAR3Xag_xieuoTWCP780DKjb0y3giO2UurCbmUAgG7IcbhFfgusBkkgVoyc4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">current BMD system</a> in 2004. Since then, it has evolved into a multi-tier BMD system involving all three branches of Japan's Self-Defense Forces.</p><p>The Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force's <a href="https://missilethreat.csis.org/system/aegis/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System</a>-equipped destroyers are tasked with intercepting ballistic missiles in their mid-course stage, when they're still outside the earth's atmosphere.</p><p>Japan's Air Self-Defense Force commands Patriot missile-defense batteries with <a href="https://asc.army.mil/web/portfolio-item/ms-pac-3_mse/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Patriot Advanced Capability-3</a> missiles that are designed to intercept ballistic missiles in their terminal stage, after they reenter the atmosphere.</p><p>Finally, Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force commands <a href="https://missiledefenseadvocacy.org/defense-systems/type-03/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Type 03</a> medium-range surface-to-air missile systems meant to intercept any missiles in the medium range of airspace.</p><p>The interceptors are linked into a massive network of satellites, radars, ships, and aircraft that monitor the area around Japan for any incoming threats. The data they collect is uploaded to the Japan Aerospace Defense Ground Environment, Japan's warning and control system.</p><p>Within minutes of a threat being detected, JADGE calculates a possible point of impact and orders relevant defense systems to prepare for intercept. JADGE also <a href="https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2022/11/04/national/jalert-issues-wrong-information/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issues an evacuation order</a>, if needed.</p><h2>BMD destroyers</h2><div type="image" title="Japan guided-missile destroyer Maya" height="1332" width="1776" msid="96264722" hostid="261" sizebytes="179694"></div><p>The Aegis-equipped BMD ships are the most important part of Japan's BMD system. Eight are in service: four <a href="https://www.mod.go.jp/msdf/equipment/ships/ddg/kongou/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kongō-class</a> destroyers (Kongō, Kirishima, Myōkō, and Chokai), two <a href="https://www.mod.go.jp/msdf/equipment/ships/ddg/atago/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Atago-class</a> destroyers (Atago and Ashigara), and two <a href="https://www.mod.go.jp/msdf/equipment/ships/ddg/maya/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Maya-class</a> destroyers (Maya and Haguro).</p><p>The Maya-class vessels are the newest, commissioned in 2020 and 2021. They are also the first BMD destroyers designed specifically for the BMD role. The others were retrofitted after entering service.</p><p>The Mayas have 96 vertical-launch tubes capable of firing a mix of <a href="https://weaponsystems.net/system/1422-Type%2007" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Type 07</a> anti-submarine rockets, <a href="https://weaponsystems.net/system/1419-Type%2090" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Type 90</a> or <a href="https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/japan/type-12.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Type 17</a> anti-ship missiles, and <a href="https://www.seaforces.org/wpnsys/SURFACE/RIM-162-Evolved-Sea-Sparrow-Missile.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RIM-162 Evolved Sea Sparrow</a> missiles. The most important armament, though, is the interceptors — the <a href="https://missilethreat.csis.org/defsys/sm-3/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SM-3</a> and <a href="https://missilethreat.csis.org/defsys/sm-6/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SM-6</a> missiles.</p><p>The <a href="https://news.usni.org/2022/11/21/two-japanese-destroyers-score-in-ballistic-missile-defense-test-off-hawaii" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recent tests</a> involving Maya and Haguro in Hawaii saw Maya successfully intercept a ballistic missile outside the atmosphere with an SM-3 Block IIA missile and Haguro intercept another missile outside the atmosphere with an SM-3 Block IB.</p><p>In a third shoot-down, Haguro intercepted a missile that was being tracked by Maya, demonstrating integrated missile-defense capabilities that the JSDF has long sought.</p><div type="image" title="Japan guided-missile destroyer Kongō" height="1139" width="1519" msid="96264724" hostid="261" sizebytes="122690"></div><p>There are advantages to relying on maritime-based platforms for missile defense. Their mobility allows them to cover a larger area and get closer to enemy launch points. It also makes it harder for enemies to target and destroy them.</p><p>By launching from open ocean, BMD ships also ensure that no booster debris from SM-3 and SM-6 missiles land in populated areas — a major reason Japan <a href="https://news.usni.org/2020/06/15/japan-backing-away-from-aegis-ashore" target="_blank" rel="noopener">canceled</a> the acquisition of the <a href="https://missilethreat.csis.org/defsys/aegis-ashore/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Aegis Ashore</a> system in 2020.</p><p>In September, Japan's Ministry of Defense <a href="https://www.navalnews.com/naval-news/2022/09/new-details-on-japans-future-bmd-vessels-revealed/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that Japan would build two new BMD destroyers.</p><p>The proposed ships would be 690 feet long, 130 feet wide, and displace some 20,000 tons, making them among the largest ships in the Japanese fleet since World War II. They would be larger than the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/navy-stealth-destroyer-uss-zumwalt-farther-from-home-than-ever-2022-10" target="_blank" rel="noopener">US's Zumwalt-class destroyers</a> and slightly smaller than Japan's Izumo-class carriers, which are <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/marine-corps-f35bs-landed-on-japans-converted-aircraft-carrier-izumo-2021-10" target="_blank" rel="noopener">being converted to operate F-35B jets</a>.</p><p>The new ships' bigger size would allow the JMSDF to send them on longer deployments, operate them in foul weather, arm them with more missiles, and equip them with the massive <a href="https://www.lockheedmartin.com/en-us/products/spy-7.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SPY-7 radar</a>.</p><p>The first ship is planned to be commissioned in 2028 and the second in 2029.</p><h2>An urgent need</h2><div type="image" title="North Korean Hwasong ICBM" height="1151" width="2000" msid="96264727" hostid="261" sizebytes="65224"></div><p>Relying on warships for ballistic-missile defense also has disadvantages, chiefly the cost. The ships need to be large, mobile, loaded with extremely sophisticated software, and have specially trained crews.</p><p>They wouldn't usually venture far from their patrol areas around Japan, but each would need to spend considerable time in port for maintenance or crew training, meaning Japan would need a fairly large number of them to ensure enough were deployed at any given time.</p><p>"The issue with sea-based missile-defense systems is if you're building really big expensive ships that are going to stay in one place, then you might as well save the money and build these really big systems on shore," Zack Cooper, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, told Insider.</p><div type="image" title="Japan soldiers Patriot missiles" height="1329" width="2000" msid="96264730" hostid="261" sizebytes="382936"></div><p>"You might have to have six ships to keep two on site at any one time, and building six expensive missile-defense ships is probably really not the best way to take up pretty valuable shipyard time," Cooper added.</p><p>The proposed 20,000-ton BMD destroyers are estimated to cost as much as $7.1 billion, a massive price given recent <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/14/business/japan-economy-gdp.html?fbclid=IwAR0oAO2xerk2m1hI5T-h1IPmXr44UDGqxVshGnSmnsRhPoSfKX0DX1xRsdI" target="_blank" rel="noopener">economic woes</a> and fears of an impending global recession.</p><p>That may be why the Japanese government has <a href="https://english.kyodonews.net/news/2022/11/0429a9669257-japan-to-downsize-2-planned-aegis-destroyers-to-increase-mobility.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly scaled back</a> the size of the two new planned ships to about that of the Maya-class ships. The decision regarding the ships is likely to be made clear in Japan's new National Defense Program Guidelines, which are set to be released in mid-December.</p><p>Japan's need for ballistic-missile defense is only growing more urgent, however. So far this year, North Korea has conducted a record number of missile launches, firing IRBMs, ICBMs, SLBMs, and, most worrying for Japan, <a href="https://breakingdefense.com/2022/02/north-koreas-hypersonic-missile-claims-are-credible-exclusive-analysis-shows/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hypersonic missiles</a>.</p><div type="image" title="Sea of Japan Tokyo North Korea missile launch" height="1292" width="2000" msid="96264733" hostid="261" sizebytes="213196"></div><p>If Japan sticks with sea-based missile defense, it may acquire two more BMD destroyers of an entirely new design or build more Maya-class vessels to save money and time.</p><p>Tokyo could also change its mind and adopt Aegis Ashore. Maintenance and training on the land-based system would be less of an issue, and it may end up being cheaper: When Japan canceled the program in 2020, it was expected to cost $4.2 billion over 30 years.</p><p>"In the North Korea context, where you basically know exactly where the missiles are being shot from and where they would be aimed toward, it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to build a whole bunch of missile-defense destroyers just to keep two on station at any one time," Cooper said.</p>

<ul><li>Regulation of OTT platforms and digital news providers will now fall under the gambit of the Information and Broadcasting (I&amp;B) Ministry instead of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeiTY).</li><li>With the winter session of parliament right around the corner, many are nervous that this could indicate more than just the changing of the guard. </li><li>Here are the burning unanswered questions that the online community is wondering about.</li></ul>The regulation of OTT platforms like <keyword id="128682" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Netflix">Netflix</keyword>, HotstarDisney+, Amazon Prime Video and others has been pulled from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeiTY) and handed off to the Information and Broadcasting (I&amp;B) Ministry. <br /><br />Aside from the changing of the guard, the government is yet to shed light on what it actually means for the OTT channel and news content curators themselves. One can only assume that a new regulatory framework will be put in place to address the challenges that have cropped in recent years. The winter session of Parliament is also right around the corner. <br /><br />“Although there is little to no clarity about what this entails for different types of intermediaries, platform and content creators, it portends a regime with more interference from the Ministry of I&amp;B and less reliance on self-regulation by the OTT platforms extending the censorship heavy legacy to the Internet,” technology lawyer and founder of the Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC) told Business Insider.<br /><br />Despite the ambiguity, Internet Freedom Foundation chair and founder of SaveTheInternet Raman Chima, also believes that this is more than just a reorganisation of departments. “It does indicate government intent. That is definitely worrying. This change was made without any proper public consultation,” he explained on <a href="https://twitter.com/tame_wildcard/status/1326553154893217795">Twitter</a>.<br /><br /><strong>Here are some of the unanswered questions around what the change in regulations could mean for OTT platforms and news content providers:<br /></strong><br /><ul><li><strong>Will the government be holding a discussion with stakeholders before implementing new regulations?</strong></li></ul>Some experts believe that there is a trend in the making. First, the government added a regulatory structure around foreign direct investment (FDI) and now, it’s looking to regulate content.<br /><br /><ul><li><strong>Will the new regulations be on par with current regulations currently in place?</strong></li></ul>The key obstacle they will face is that, at a technical level, broadcast, print and digital aren’t the same. This will make treating them as the same increasingly difficult. <br /><br /><ul><li><strong>How will user-generated content be regulated on platforms like YouTube, Facebook and others?</strong></li></ul>While OTT platforms curate content and are responsible for what goes up on the platform, YouTube and Facebook are ‘intermediaries’. This means that they do take any responsibility for the content that is posted on their site, and instead pass the buck onto individual users. <br /><br /><ul><li><strong>How will digital news media be defined? Will personal channels like Dhruv Rathi and Akash Banerjee come under digital news media?</strong></li></ul>The mediums used to dispense the news in the digital era expands well beyond the written word or even structured news publications. There are influencers like Dhruv Rathi analysing the news, personalised newsletters that people can subscribe to, instagram alerts and so much more. The new regulations will have to define what amounts to news, and what does not.<br /><br /><ul><li><strong>Will every news organisation on the internet will have to register itself?</strong></li></ul>Not every news publication exists in the brick-and-mortar world, some are only digital. In fact, the freedom to register a website and dispense content at a minimal cost is of the primary pros of being on the internet. But non-digital news organisations have to register and get government approval before they can take off. If the same applies to the online world, it should lead to a drastic cut in the number of publications able to report the news.<br /><br /><ul><li><strong>Will this mean nobody can post on YouTube or Facebook if they’re not registered?</strong></li></ul>In addition to channels and influencers, day-to-day users also express their opinion and share the news online. Like FM channels, will this mean that those who are not registered will no longer be allowed to post about the news on social networking hubs like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube? Will generic vlogs be flagged or taken down should they make mention of any current events?<br /><br /><ul><li><strong>Will there be a cap on subscriptions and memberships, or a minimum rate that can be charged?</strong></li></ul>News publications and individuals are also offering newsletters and subscriptions. The new slew of regulations hold the potential to cap the number of people who can sign up. They could also dictate a ceiling price that would limit how much can be charged for such services. <br /><br /><ul><li><strong>Is the government going to block any news outfit or OTT that’s not registered in India?</strong></li></ul>In addition to the publications in India, it’s uncertain what the regulations will mean for foreign entities. While they do report on India, without registering with the government on par with print regulations the government may block access.<br /><br /><ul><li><strong>Will content rules for OTT platforms now be the same as the ones for television channels?</strong></li></ul>Television channels have to adhere to strict rules about what can and cannot be said while OTT platforms do not. This has been one of the critical reasons behind the success of shows like Sacred Games, or Mirzapur. <br /><br /><ul><li><strong>Will movies that release exclusively on the internet now require a certification from the licensing board?</strong></li></ul>Movies that get released online don’t need to be licensed by Central Board of Film Certification. But with the I&amp;B Ministry at the helm, they may have to adhere to the rules and regulations of the board, which many fear will restrict creative expression.<br /><br />The way news is disseminated is also diversifying. Publications have alerts on WhatsApp and Telegram, others have personalised newsletters, and most are spread across difficult mediums — from text to video to podcasts.<br /><br />Individual states already have anti fake-news task forces within their ranks that have thus far proven ineffective, other than in cases on anti-government news deemed to be misleading.<br /><br />Given the wide array of complications in implementing blanket regulations, the task will be nearly impossible to execute. The new 19,000 square foot space can seat up to 100 staff. Goldman currently has 30 employees across two offices in the city.</p><p><a href="https://www.ft.com/content/b45061fa-4ee8-11e8-a7a9-37318e776bab">The Financial Times first reported the move</a> and Goldman Sachs confirmed the details to Business Insider.</p><p>Goldman plans to make its new Stockholm office into a securities "R&amp;D" lab and the office will have a relaxed dress code to attract developers and techies. The office will run a "no outdoor shoes" policy, with slippers provided.</p><p>Goldman acquired Stockholm-based Pantor, a high-performance trading software company, in 2016 and this team forms the basis of the new lab.</p><p>Rolf Andersson, who heads up electronic trading technology research and development at Goldman, said in a statement: "The office environment is designed to encourage solutions to complex problems in global markets through research and design. Our engineering lab is a far step from what you'd imagine a trading floor to be like."</p><p>The FT highlighted that the new push comes as new European rules mandated that banks should not trade on their own internal trading desk but allowed for lightly regulated high-frequency trading platforms geared towards client business. Pantor's technology has been used as the basis of Goldman's version of this platform.</p><p>As well as a financial technology push in Stockholm, Goldman is also moving asset management and investment banking staff to the Swedish capital. The investment bank has been relocating jobs to cities across Europe in response to Brexit, increasing staffing levels in Milan, Frankfurt, and Madrid.</p><p>Sheila Patel, CEO of International at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, said in a statement: "We are excited to continue to develop our presence in Stockholm and across the Nordic region, where we work with some of the world's most sophisticated investors to invest strategically and responsibly in global markets across asset classes."</p><p>Business Insider understands that only a "handful" of asset management and investment banking roles will move to Stockholm for now, with the majority of new roles in fintech. However, the AM and IB headcounts could be increased over time.</p><p>Stockholm has emerged as a strong fintech hub in Europe, home to consumer-facing businesses such as iZettle and Trustly, as well as a banking technology companies such as Cinnober and TriOptima and a large Nasdaq office.</p><p>Liz Martin, Goldman's head of EMEA execution services, said: "Stockholm is home to some of the world's most talented engineers. Goldman Sachs is setting up a research lab in Stockholm with a 'no shoes' policy

International news channel <keyword id="148173" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Al-Jazeera">Al Jazeera</keyword> was today forced to go off air in the country for five days as the government penalised it for repeatedly showing wrong maps of India. <br />

Al Jazeera today only showed a blank screen with a message saying that "as instructed by the ministry of Information and Broadcasting, this channel will not be available from 00.01 hours on 22nd April till 00.01 hours on 27th April 2015." <br />

Earlier in an order, I&amp;B ministry had said that it had come to its notice that Al Jazeera had shown a wrong map of India in some of its broadcasts in 2013 and 2014, after which the matter was referred to Surveyor General of India (SGI). <br />

The SGI had observed that in some of the maps displayed by Al Jazeera, "a portion of Indian territory of Jammu and Kashmir (i.e. PoK and Aksai Chin) has not been shown as a part of Indian territory." The channel also did not show Lakshadweep and Andaman Islands in some of the maps, the SGI said. <br />
<br /> The SGI also said that the maps were not in accordance with the Survey of India copyright map and is also against the National Map policy, 2005 and map restriction policy issued by Ministry of Defence from time to time. The <keyword id="6374106" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ministry-of-External-Affairs">Ministry of External Affairs</keyword> also pointed out similar airing of a wrong map by the channel. <br />

In their reply to a Show Cause Notice, Al Jazeera said that all maps that are displayed by them are generated by an internationally known software used by Global News Providers. <br /> The channel also added that it takes <keyword id="44734" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-Government">Indian government</keyword>'s concerns about maps very seriously and accordingly reviews all its India and Pakistan maps to ensure compatibility with recent official UN map. <br />
