 This comes on the backdrop of mounting losses reported by the revenue department, thanks to the nationwide lockdown that has put a halt to all the services. That accounts to ₹12,000 crore. “The state treasury needs to get Rs 12,000 crore since March 15. Everything is shut — petrol, GST, excise. So, we may have to cut salaries of MLAs and government employees. People have to cooperate – we are in a crisis, this is not a luxury. You have to eat half of what you were eating before,” Rao said. However, the least affected would be the contractual employees — who will have to share 10% of their pay. The move will also impact the employees of the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and other government aided institutions — including Human Rights Commission. “For all public sector undertakings and institutions that are receiving government grants employees, like government employees and retirees, there will be a cut in their salaries,” the statement noted. The state government said that it will contribute nearly ₹500 crore to tackle the pandemic. We have served a 'one-month notice' to 13 expat Q400 captains, as per their official contract. They have also been paid a month's salary as per their contract."We have accepted the resignation of 18 Boeing captains," a spokesperson of SpiceJet said in response to a query. (Eds: Adding details) Mumbai, Mar 17 () Budget carrier GoAir on Tuesday announced suspending international operations and offering leave without pay programme for its staff on a rotational basis, amid "unprecedented" decline in air travel due to the coronavirus pandemic. Sources said the airline was also planning a 20 per cent pay cut for employees in a staggered manner. In a statement, GoAir said the aviation industry has been one of the most affected by the coronavirus pandemic as governments have issued far reaching travel advisories, customers have curtailed their individual travel plans and businesses have restricted the movement of their employees. Special events have been postponed or called off, it added. In the statement to , the airline said the sharp decline in air travel that it was experiencing was "unprecedented". Against this backdrop, the carrier said it was temporarily suspending all international operations, starting March 17 until April 15. The carrier flies to 35 destinations, including eight international ones. The overseas destinations are Phuket, Male, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bangkok, Kuwait, and Dammam. After suspension of international operations, the number of daily flights has come down to 280 from 325, an airline official said. "GoAir has also initiated a short-term and temporary rotational leave without pay program that will not only help the company counter the short term reduction in capacity, but will also ensure that a cross section of our employees stay away from the workplace to ensure business continuity," the statement said. Knowing that this would put a financial burden on the affected employees and having studied what companies have done in other countries to help guide our plans, this decision was not taken lightly, the airline said. For now, the sources said the airline plans to keep as much as 35 per cent of its workforce on leave without pay for a month. This would include staff at overseas airports. There is also a proposal to give 20 per cent pay cut for staff in a staggered manner to help the airline sustain till normalcy in passenger traffic returns, as per the sources. They also said that GoAir would soon take a call on expat pilots as most of them would not have work since services are being reduced. A GoAir spokesperson did not respond to queries related to pay cut and expat pilots. In addition to addressing short term financial and network requirements, airlines in India have petitioned the government for immediate support, as most other governments around the world have already provided to their similarly affected airlines, the statement said. "We have also taken many immediate measures to make our business more efficient; measures that will help us create an even stronger airline in the long run. "GoAir remains on track to receive 12-15 aircraft each year through the end of 2025 in support of our planned growth," the statement noted. According to the statement, the airline has enhanced all of its cleaning procedures in the interest of customers' and employees' health and safety. "We have also tried to put our customers at ease by offering them a waiver on change fees so that they can be confident about booking their travel today while maintaining full flexibility in the future," it added. By Shah Imran Ahmed Mumbai, Mar 24 () Budget carrier IndiGo has assured its employees that it will not make any deduction in their salaries and leaves due to the suspension of domestic flights till March 31 in the wake of coronavirus lockdown.The assurance came a day after the Narendra Modi government issued an advisory to both private and public companies to not lay off employees or cut their salaries, in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.The government's decision to suspend domestic flight till March 31 would come into effect from midnight Tuesday, as part of larger efforts to curb spreading of coronavirus infections.In an e-mail to his employees, IndiGo Chief executive Officer Ronojoy Dutta said the company has "reasonable" level of advanced bookings for April and it was "anxious'' to fly again albeit with a reduced capacity."For those who don't have to be working during this temporary suspension of operations, we will make no deduction of salaries or leaves," Dutta said in the e-mail. has accessed the e-mail.He said that the airline plans to commence the domestic operations from April 1, subject to no further extension of the government order.It may be mentioned here that global aviation consultancy CAPA on Monday said domestic air services are likely to remain suspended beyond March 31 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Later in a statement, he also said that the airline would not be charging any fee for cancelling tickets that are up to April 30, and it would store the ticket price as credit on that PNR, which can be used for alternative booking up to September 30. According to Dutta, IndiGo has reasonable level of forward bookings for April "so we are anxious to start flying again, although it will be a reduced capacity."Stating that the last few days have been very challenging for the airline, he said "clearly for the next few weeks, our revenues will be well below our costs and we will have to make our efforts to penny-pinch and preserve cash".He also said that as employees "let us also be acutely cognizant of the fact that during this temporary suspension of operations, we will be spending our cash reserves to continue to pay salaries and benefits."Once this crisis is over, the airline will have to redouble its efforts to rebuild these cash reserves, Dutta added.The coronavirus has dealt the airline a 'hands of cards' it neither ask for or anticipate, he said."Now it is all up to us employees to play our cards not just well but superbly to restore the full confidence of our customers and share holders trust in us," the airline chief said. Moreover, Dutta, in the statement also stated that those passengers who are booked to travel till September 30, can change their itinerary at zero change fee, for travel up till September 30.The fare difference would have to be paid by the passenger during the time of alternative booking, he said. Mumbai, Apr 16 () Bajaj Auto management has proposed salary cut for all employees with its MD Rajiv Bajaj himself to take 100 per cent pay cut for the extended lockdown period till May 3. According to a letter sent by the company's HR department to employees, there is need to bring down fixed cost in the wake of the lockdown due to coranvirus pandemic, hence the deductions needed. However, according to union sources, if the company resumes production from April 20 under the new guidelines by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the proposed 10 per cent salary reduction by the management will not be implemented. The letter from the HR department said: "We are extremely sensitive to the welfare of our workers and employees. If these deductions were to be made they would be fixed, balanced and measured and graded." It further said,"the Managing director has decided to take the initiative if such a decision is implemented, he will not receive any salary during this period."Automobiles and auto components production in the country is suspended since the imposition of the nationwide lockdown on March 25, which has now been extended to May 3. However, the industry is hoping to resume partial operations after the the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday issued guidelines for the extended lockdown period.As per the guidelines, manufacturing units located in rural areas can start operations under strict conditions. Besides, manufacturing and other industrial establishments with access control in special economic zones (SEZ) and export oriented units, industrial estates and industrial townships can restart production from April 20."Due to unprecedented conditions, business and incomes have stalled in many areas and many companies have either announced or considering several cost-control measures, including some tough ones," the letter said."We will review it periodically as the uncertainties in the present scenario will be even greater," it said. Meanwhile, sources also said the Bajaj Auto workers union has agreed for a 10 per cent pay cut for the second phase of the lockdown period, if production does not resume from April 21. "We have given our consent to the management for a 10 per cent cut as we are fully aware of the situation the company and the country is going through," a union representative told . Telangana will pay police in full with extra cash incentives even as civil servants pay is slashed

Mumbai, May 4 () Budget carrier GoAir is seeking financial support from the government amid the coronavirus pandemic and has paid salaries to some of its employees on deferred basis, according to a communication. In the communication to the company's employees on Sunday, Wadia Group Chairman Nusli Wadia and GoAir Managing Director Jeh Wadia also said the carrier remains focussed to restart operations and resume flights as soon as the lockdown is lifted with a full recovery of its network anticipated within a few months."The world over, airlines are getting substantial financial support from governments to tide over this unprecedented crisis (coronavirus pandemic), primarily to enable them to meet employee requirements, and also to sustain and restart operations and maintain the viability and structure of their balance sheets," GoAir said in the communication. These airlines have also been given substantial support from banking systems with the help provided by federal banks, it added."We continue to vigorously pursue similar options with our government so that we can, most importantly, improve the position of our employees and also the sustainability of our airline," it said. GoAir said the airline has been requesting the Indian banking system for financial support but they have not yet reached a conclusion on how they should financially support the airlines despite various advisories from the RBI, it said.The airline had very little revenue in the first 17 to 24 days of March and zero revenue thereafter, GoAir said adding that it also has to meet all its expenses and liabilities toward its stakeholders such as lessors, suppliers of fuel and engineering, airports and other major expenses. The nationwide lockdown to curb the COVID-19 pandemic was imposed with effect from March 25 and commercial flight operations have remained suspended since then. "Despite the lack of government support, GoAir released full salaries to about 2,500 less fortunate employees, equivalent to 40 per cent our workforce, with the remaining employees getting paid on a graded and deferred basis," the company said.With no inflow of cash, which the company anticipates will continue through the end of May, and with no support forthcoming from either the government or the banking system, "we were left with no alternative but to make the unfortunate and sad decision to pay the March earned salaries over March and April," the airline added.GoAir said it has closed the sale of all tickets on flights operating through May 31 upon instructions from the government, adding," we do not expect to resume commercial flying prior to June 1, but we are in continuous touch with the Civil Aviation Ministry and are monitoring the situation closely."The airline also said it has been in continuous touch over the past several weeks with the aviation ministry and the government for financial assistance and structural changes, both fiscal and non-fiscal, but so far no concrete measures have been forthcoming."However, our discussion with lessors, partners and suppliers is progressing with most industry related playersbeing understanding and willing to work with us to try to find suitable solutions," it added."With the exception of 2,500 employees, who are the least fortunate amongst us in the GoAir family, we were also forced to place a substantial portion of our employees on temporary leave without pay. The limitations on our resources are not of our own making and the sacrifices we are imposing on you are sadly beyond our control," the airline said.GoAir CEO has taken a 50 per cent pay cut and voluntarily deferred most of his balance compensation, and the senior management too have taken substantial pay cuts and have also deferred a portion of their compensation.
