As per its financial records, the FMCG giant spent Rs 4,737 crore on advertising in FY21. Broad-based performance Growth in the quarter was competitive and profitable with reported turnover growth of 34% and Profit after tax growth of 41%. Domestic consumer growth* was at 21% with underlying volume growth of 16%. Health, hygiene and nutrition forming c.80% of business grew in double-digits for the third consecutive quarter, while discretionary and out-of-home categories improved sequentially. Home Care: Home Care growth at 15% was enabled by a strong recovery in Fabric Wash. Household Care continued its strong performance delivering double-digit growth. Liquids and Fabric Sensations continue to outperform benefitting from robust market development initiatives. Beauty &amp; Personal Care: Beauty and Personal Care grew 20% with Skin Cleansing, Hair Care and Oral Care delivering high double-digit growth. Skin Cleansing performance was led by ‘Lifebuoy’ and premium segment. A calibrated approach towards price increase has helped protect our business model even as vegetable oils continue to inflate at record levels. Consumer-focused innovations and contextual communications in Hair and Oral Care continue to yield good results. Skin Care portfolio registered strong performance in Hand &amp; Body Care and Face Cleansing segments. Color Cosmetics performance improved sequentially. Foods &amp; Refreshment: Foods and Refreshment delivered another quarter of strong performance and grew at 36%. All our Tea brands continue to grow in high double-digits. Ketchups, Soups and Ice Creams also performed well with double-digit growths. Ice Creams recovery in the quarter was aided by multiple product innovations. Nutrition volumes grew in double digits and we launched Rs. 2 sachets in Horlicks and Boost. Our goal remains to drive penetration in this category. Operating margins: EBITDA margins at 25% remain healthy. Profit after tax at Rs 2,143 Crore increased by 41%. HUL will continue to invest behind its brands and portfolio, and in future-fit capabilities. The Board of Directors have proposed a final dividend of Rs 17 per share, subject to approval of shareholders at the AGM. Together with interim dividend of Rs 14 per share, the total dividend for the financial year ending 31st March 2021 amounts to Rs. 31 per share. During the year, a special dividend of Rs. 9.5 per share was also paid. September Quarter 2021: Robust broad-based performance in a challenging environment HUL delivered a strong performance in this quarter with Domestic Consumer Growth of 11% and Profit After Tax (PAT) growth of 9%. Performance was broad based with all 3 divisions growing competitively. Business fundamentals remained strong with more than three-fourths of the business gaining market share and penetration. Home Care: Home Care grew 15% driven by high double-digit growth in Fabric Wash. Household care continued to perform well and grew on a strong base. Liquids and Fabric Sensations continue to outperform. Calibrated price increases were taken across Fabric Wash and Household Care portfolios to partly offset the high inflation in input costs. Foods &amp; Refreshment: Foods &amp; Refreshment grew at 7% against a strong prior year comparator. Tea grew on a very strong base and further strengthened its market leadership. Focus on market development in Nutrition is yielding good results. Health Food Drinks volumes grew double-digit and it continued to gain penetration sequentially. Ice Creams recovered strongly driven by effective communications and innovations. Foods had a soft quarter on the back of high teens growth in the base period. ‘Kissan Peanut Butter’ and ‘Hellman’s Mayonnaise’ innovations are picking up momentum. HUL spent Rs 2,255 crore on advertising between April and September this year

Meanwhile, Foods &amp; Refreshment grew 3% on a very high prior year comparator, driven by solid performance in Tea and Ice-creams.</li></ul>Hindustan Unilever Limited, in its results for the quarter ended 31st December 2021 said that it spent Rs 1,193 crore on advertising in the quarter. It also said that it saw strong, all-round performance in the quarter. "Growth in the quarter was competitive and profitable with Domestic Consumer Growth of 11% and Profit After Tax (PAT) growth of 17%. Business fundamentals remained strong with handsome market share gains in all our divisions, both urban and rural markets and across price segments. Underlying Volume Growth at 2% was significantly ahead of the market," its report stated. Its Home Care segment witnessed a growth at 23% and was broad based with strong performance in Fabric Wash and Household Care. Fabric Wash grew in strong double-digits with all parts of the portfolio performing well. Household Care sustained its robust performance and grew in high teens on a strong base. Liquids and Fabric Sensations continue to outperform driven by effective market development actions. Calibrated price increases were taken across Fabric Wash and Household Care portfolios to partly offset the significant inflation in input costs. Its Beauty &amp; Personal Care segment grew 7% led by Skin Cleansing, Skin Care and Colour Cosmetics. Skin Cleansing delivered double digit growth driven by strong performance in ‘Lux’, ‘<keyword id="94301" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dove" source="Orion">Dove</keyword>’ and ‘Pears’. Hair Care had a steady quarter enabled by strong performance in premium portfolio. HUL's Foods &amp; Refreshment segment grew 3% on a very high prior year comparator, driven by solid performance in Tea and Ice-creams. Tea continued its robust performance and grew competitively on a strong base delivering high teens 2Y CAGR. Focus on market development actions in Health Food Drinks resulted in handsome market share and penetration gains. Ice Creams had a very strong quarter delivering 2Y CAGR in high teens enabled by impactful innovations and effective activations. Foods grew on a strong base led by Jams and Ketchup. ‘Kissan Peanut Butter’ and ‘Hellman’s Mayonnaise’ innovations continue to perform well. ‘<keyword id="6595123" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bru" source="Orion">Bru</keyword>’ launched a new product ‘Bru Beaten Coffee’. Its EBITDA margin at 25.4% improved 100 bps YoY. PAT at Rs. 2,243 Crores increased by 17% year-on-year. Profit after tax before exceptional items at Rs 2,292 Crores was up 17%. "In the context of unprecedented inflation, we continue to manage our business dynamically driving savings harder across all lines of P&amp;L and taking calibrated pricing actions using the principles of Net Revenue Management. We continue to invest competitively behind our brands," the report stated. <ul><li><keyword id="6888422" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sebamed" source="Orion">Sebamed</keyword>'s comparative advertising last year against <keyword id="44863" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hul" source="Orion">HUL</keyword> soap brands including <keyword id="119472" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lux" source="Orion">Lux</keyword>, Pears and <keyword id="94301" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dove" source="Orion">Dove</keyword> got it noticed by consumers.</li><li>We speak to <keyword id="17535" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shashi-ranjan" source="Orion">Shashi Ranjan</keyword>, Country Head, Sebamed to understand how its strategy of targeting other brands in the category has worked for it.</li><li> Ranjan tells us the brand's campaigns have helped it win the trust of huge number of consumers who are looking for 'highly efficacious and scientifically superior products'.</li></ul>When it aired its campaign targeting some of HUL’s market leading soap brands including Lux, Pears and Dove in January 2021, German personal care brand Sebamed made quite a splash. It had taken on the biggest soap manufacturer in the country, to demonstrate the ‘superior benefit of Sebamed’s cleansing bar over market leaders in the soap category’, a claim that had later been rebutted by HUL. Following the launch of the campaigns, HUL had filed a commercial suit in the Bombay High Court, and alleged that Sebamed’s campaigns were ‘misleading consumers on soap efficacy during these difficult times, and further denigrating and disparaging well-known brands like Lux, Dove, Pears and Rin’. The Bombay High Court later permitted Sebamed to continue with its campaign for its cleansing bar. Despite the legal backlash, the brand and its comparative advertising was written about by numerous media outlets, which turned out to be great PR for the brand. It had the desired effect, getting a relatively new brand noticed by consumers. Later in the year, Sebamed released another campaign, this time drawing consumers’ attention towards misleading advertising by various hair care brands titled #NoConditionsApply. A year since the launch of its talked-about campaign, we caught up with Shashi Ranjan, Country Head, Sebamed, to understand how its strategy worked for the brand and how it has been educating consumers about the benefits of using its products and building a market for itself. Excerpts: Q) Sebamed has had a very different advertising approach. How do you think that has helped in its brand building in India? We are a purpose-driven organization, and we strive to transform the Indian <keyword id="34523" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fmcg" source="Orion">FMCG</keyword> landscape. By leveraging the power of honest and transparent advertising, we are empowering consumers with the right knowledge backed by scientifically verifiable facts and realistic claims. We want consumers to make informed choices about their consumption habits and our advertisements narrate the story in a unique and palatable way. Our differentiated approach to advertising has introduced a new vocabulary of pH and generated a buzz in the personal care category. It has nudged consumers to challenge the status quo and question claims around standard beauty practices and provide them with science-backed facts instead, and as a result, build a strong connection with Sebamed. We have been able to win the trust of huge number of consumers who are looking for highly efficacious and scientifically superior products. Q) What sort of reception have your ads received? They did the work of getting the brand noticed but did that translate to sales? We are overwhelmed by consumer responses after every campaign. It really gives a surreal feeling that consumers wait for our advertisements as every category we get into we impart new knowledge and most importantly something they can trust and validate. In addition to disruptive awareness, our advertisements have resulted into exponential increase in our revenue as well. Our annualized portfolio run rate is Rs 600 crore in MRP terms. We remain committed towards investing in brand building as a full-stack player. We continue to strive for share of affinity of our consumers and it has been overwhelming since inception. Q) What sort of growth have you witnessed since you launched your campaign? We are on an exponential growth path and have grown 5X in the last 3 years. In fact, some of the subcategories in personal care have grown more than 10X post the campaign. Q) How did the pandemic impact the business? Where do you stand now? Like any other FMCG player we were also impacted by the first wave of pandemic during Apr-June’20 quarter. However, we have managed to bounce back and are now on our growth trajectory. We witnessed ~40% growth on our overall portfolio vis-à-vis 2019 despite the pandemic. We used this as an opportunity to realign our Marketing, Sales, Distribution &amp; People strategy.We managed to bounce back after a quarter and are now back on our growth trajectory.Hence, the silver lining is, despite pandemic our exponential growth journey continues.Our offline sales have grown around 50% over last year itself. Q) For any relatively new brand, sampling plays an important role. With people stuck in their homes, how have you been able to take the brand to people's homes? How are you ensuring the brand stays top-of-mind for your consumers? Sampling has been a key enabler to induce trial for consumers across all categories and we have leveraged this since the beginning. During pandemic when people were stuck at home, we partnered with hyper local delivery partners as well as some society activation partners to take the experience to consumers’ home. Further recently we have also launched Sebamed shampoo sachet at Rs 10 to encourage trials. Today all Sebamed shampoos – Anti Hairloss, Anti-Dandruff and Everyday are available at Rs 10. We have also started seeing early trends on increasing revenue contribution of Tier II and Tier III cities for Sebamed products. Q) How important has e-commerce been for you? The world-wide pandemic has turbocharged ecommerce transition for FMCG companies. With the touchless economy and safety conscious consumers, we have witnessed a strong preference towards ecommerce during the pandemic and it’s going to continue in the long run as well. Ecommerce has been a key growth driver for us, and we have further enhanced our presence by partnering with quick commerce players as well in addition to traditional ecommerce players. In fact, we have taken an emphatic approach to set up our own ecommerce platform mywellnesskart.com during the first wave of the pandemic to ensure our products are made available to consumers amid logistic disruptions. Q) What's your marketing budget for the year? Will you be increasing spends this year? Which medium will get the largest chunk of the marketing pie? Our marketing budget is commensurate with our growth aspirations. We have grown our marketing budget by 3X over last 3 years. We remain committed towards investment in brand building as a full stack FMCG player and strive for consumer’s share of affinity towards our brands. Our current split between traditional and digital marketing is 50:50 and we will continuously evaluate the same and pivot it around consumer’s behavioral shift. Q) Going ahead too, will the brand continue focusing on competitive advertising or do you plan to modify your strategy? We invest a lot in understanding our consumers. Keeping the evolving consumer needs in mind, our advertising approach has been focused on building long-term trust with the consumers – there is no short-cut to gaining trust. This requires consistent effort. Competitive advertisement is just one tool in the marketing playbook. Every category has different objective and advertisement strategy would differ accordingly; however our brand purpose will remain consistent as the common denominator across every segment we operate. Q) Sebamed has positioned itself as a brand that empowers consumers with the right information on the basis of scientifically verifiable facts and realistic claims. Apart from your campaigns, how else are you educating consumers, since it takes a change in behaviour for people to opt for a new shampoo/soap instead of products they have been using for years? After the pandemic, basic health and hygiene choices are being re-evaluated. We strive to educate our consumers about the benefits of pH5.5 products for healthy skin and hair and impact of using conventional products. pH is a relatively new conversation in the personal care segment, and we are aware that persuading consumers to opt for a new shampoo/soap instead of products they are using for years is a journey. In order to expedite the transition process, in addition to integrated campaigns we are following a 3-pronged approach: -Offering free pH test kits to consumers, so they can test themselves at their homes -Offering free customized skin and hair solutions by our experts through our portal -Sampling and society activation initiatives Q) What is your strategy towards increasing your marketing spend? What is the growth strategy you are going to follow? -Brand building is a journey and we are committed to ramp up our marketing investments in alignment with our aspirations. -We will continue to focus on five key transformational pillars – people, differentiated products, branding, rapid distribution expansion and robust governance. Q) What kind of revenue target do you have for 2022? We are here for the long haul, we plan to grow 10X in the next 5 years, hence we aspire to grow exponentially in 2022 as well, pretty much the way we have grown over the last 3 years.

The company’s shares were trading at ₹417 at 9:49 a.m., on January 21. The Indian department store chain — which sells everything from apparel to cosmetics — reported a consolidated revenue of ₹972 crore for the December quarter (Q3 of fiscal year 2022). Its profit also went up to ₹77 crore from ₹25 crore loss in the same quarter a year ago. Britannia Industries The biscuit major Britannia Industries reported a 22.96% jump in consolidated net profit to ₹495.20 crore for the quarter ended September 30. While revenue from operations rose 12.15% to ₹3,419.11 crore during the quarter under review. However, the profit growth was much lower compared to the sequential lockdown quarter. The shares of Britannia Industries ended 2% higher on Monday. HDFC Life HDFC Life Insurance Company reported a 6.1% increase in consolidated net profit to ₹327.83 crore for the quarter ended September 30. The total income of the life insurer jumped nearly 90% to ₹16,426.03 crore, it said in a stock-exchange filing. The shares of HDFC Life ended 2% higher on Monday. MRPL and ONGC Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals will buy 49% stake in ONGC for ₹ 1,220 crore. Also, ONGC has issued non-convertible debentures worth ₹1,140 crore on a private placement basis. The shares of MRPL ended 2% higher on Monday, whereas ONGC gained over 3%. ACC The cement maker ACC reported a 20.25% increase in consolidated net profit to ₹363.85 crore for the third quarter ended September 30. The company follows the January-December financial year. The overall revenue from operations remained flat at ₹3,537.31 crore. The shares of ACC ended 0.41% higher on Monday Larsen &amp; Toubro Infotech and Hindustan Unilever (HUL) Larsen &amp; Toubro Infotech and Hindustan Unilever (HUL) are slated to report their second-quarter earnings today. The shares of Larsen &amp; Toubro Infotech ended 1% lower on Monday, whereas HUL ended 2% higher. Equitas Small Finance Bank The Equitas Small Finance Bank ₹517.6 crore initial public offer (IPO) will open today for bidding. Price band has been fixed at ₹32-33 per share. The issue will remain open for investors until October 22. <ul><li>The <keyword id="11924074" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shark-tank-india" source="Orion">Shark Tank India</keyword> judge says gatekeepers of the app ecosystem – Apple and <keyword id="19902762" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="google" source="keywords">Google</keyword> – are the new East India Company and they operate with complete arrogance and impunity.</li><li>Just as startup founders are coming under pressure, venture capitalists and auditors too need to be held accountable for their behaviour.</li><li><keyword id="20225195" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shark-tank" source="keywords">Shark Tank</keyword> India has become a catalyst for driving entrepreneurship and giving it legitimacy. </li></ul> <keyword id="127971" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="anupam-mittal" source="Orion">Anupam Mittal</keyword> is India’s original internet entrepreneur, who is the founder and CEO of People Group. Way before platform economy became a buzzword, Mittal built a platform for Indians seeking life partners. And even today one million Indians find their partners on shaadi.com every year. Call him the OG of startups or a serial entrepreneur, he is a man who does not mince words. In a free wheeling chat with Business Insider’s Malini Bhupta, Mittal talks about unfair trade practices of Google, his investment in Ola’s Bhavish Aggarwal and what he thinks is the biggest achievement of Shark Tank India. Edited Excerpts: With some high profile startups like Paytm and Byju’s coming under lens, what do you think is wrong with the startup ecosystem? I think the Paytm issue is a little different. There are two issues there in my view – one is valuation. The company came out with its IPO at the height of the unicorn boom and as a result, their valuation was corrected when the pvt. market corrected. This is part of the pricing game and one can hardly blame them for it. Eventually, they would have grown into their valuation is what I believe. However, the second issue which is regulatory in nature is far more serious. Whether it is justified or not I don’t know. I think there is a little heavy-handedness here as what you are talking about is a payments bank KYC stuff being the reason to shut them down, which could be seen as over-reach since they are not a significantly important lending institution. Talking about what is wrong with India’s ecosystem and why founders are behaving badly is a common issue that occurs when there are high levels of greed. When there is massive liquidity in the system people think they can take advantage of the situation. In the US you have seen Theranos, crypto frauds and an industry that was created around SPACs. Billions of dollars have been lost on that. What is happening in India is a small reflection of that. Greed manifests in two ways – one is the founders who are ambitious who see the ecosystem celebrating unicorns and that gets weaponised. Over time a few start with minor refractions and very soon they start fabricating revenues and manipulating auditors to keep up with the image that has been created. They are riding tigers they can't get off. The venture capitalists too want to see their investments being marked up as their future fund raises depend on the portfolio's net asset value and so they play along and at times actually drive the founders at a velocity that is unsustainable. I think they need to be held accountable by their LPs. Auditors have a very important role here and are perhaps the ones who need to pay the highest price through government censures. They are market participants who have been entrusted with a certain job for which they get paid hefty fees. When they start looking the other way, the system breaks. You have been waging a pitched battle against the unfair trade practices of Big Tech companies in India. What, in your view, are the steps that need to be taken by the government to prevent such unfair practices by large global players? Fundamentally the experience of the internet is through apps – two companies control the entire app ecosystem Google and Apple. Both operate with complete impunity. Two years ago the CCI passed an order against Google around <keyword id="963171" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="google-play" source="Orion">Google Play</keyword> Billing System (GPBS). Now they have changed the name to User Choice Billing. If you look at the order CCI says there will be no discrimination at all. Being on the App Store means nothing unless you advertise on Play Store. Startups spend anywhere between 10-50% of revenue on advertising on these platforms already. Essentially, the app store is worth nothing if you don’t have content. What choice does a company have but to adhere to their unfair practices… Now they say that any transaction that happens on apps downloaded via the store will be subject to 15-30% tax/commissions. What this means is that they want 50% of the revenues of the startups. It is the new East India Company and they operate with complete arrogance and impunity. The problem is in getting these companies to comply. Their strategy is to stretch out the legal process and tire the system. Our government and regulators have the right intent but sometimes democracies are messy. As a government, we have to ensure that nobody becomes the gatekeeper to our economy which is what these companies are trying to do. There should be penal provisions for anybody who abuses the law or twists and turns it while violating the very spirit of it. Non-compliance with judicial orders is contempt of court and so there is an opportunity to send a very strong message. These bullies need one arm chopped off in the form of penalties, a rap on the knuckles will not work as they are too big to care about a couple of hundred million in penalties. What is the biggest achievement of Shark Tank, which has now become a huge hit in India? In life timing is everything. Shark Tank’s first season was in December 2021, which was the peak of the startup hype cycle, and it demystified the whole conversation around startups and funding. Shark Tank has become a catalyst for driving entrepreneurship and giving it legitimacy. India is a land of entrepreneurs with every second person running some small business, many from home. A decade ago, if you told someone you are an entrepreneur, you would be told to come back when you get serious. The show has played an amazing role in celebrating entrepreneurship and the startup ecosystem. A lot of companies have done very well. About 8-10 companies that got funded in Shark Tank are doing very well out of 180 companies that came to the show. This is an early stage game and will play out the same way. When you invest in 100 early stage companies, 4-5 will do very well and help recover the investments and some will become very big. A majority will fail. What I found amazing was that the companies that came to the show were not the elites who came from IIT or IIM. These are small businesses founded by housewives and family members. Entrepreneurship is not the reserve of the few. The next decade will be defined by Indian entrepreneurs globally and so there is no better time to be an entrepreneur than now. Shark Tank has put belief in every Indian that they can do it and that changes the game. Many of the founders that come to Shark Tank can do even better than the founders who have come from an IIT or an IIM. I believe that these people understand commerce and ‘dhandha’. The elitist founders are used to being served everything on a platter. Many professionals who come out of large companies or consulting firms cannot start without large funding. Out of the 100 unicorns we have, many will spectacularly fail in 2024 as they were built on the wrong foundations. These companies were built on a template of Ivy League founders and old school networks and so they got funded. Of the businesses that come to Shark Tank, what sectors can do well and stand a better chance of being funded? Indians now have the same aspirations as people in other parts of the world. Anybody who comes in and can bridge the gap between aspiration and affordability will do well especially in lifestyle. For example - Companies in the clothing and jewellery space will do well if they can deliver high aspiration at a value pricing. Last year a company called Snitch came with a revenue of Rs 60 crore and is now doing Rs 250 crore in sales. A company called Skippy, which makes ice pops was funded on Shark Tank too and has a run rate of Rs 50 crore from a few lakhs before ST. I funded a company called Sharmaji Ka Atta which has a revenue run rate of Rs 20 lakh a month in less than 12 months from less than 1 lakh. Another one called Whatsapp Wellness just got funded by HUL. Fundamentally, companies that can build premium products but don’t break the bank on affordability in categories like fashion, lifestyle and food will do well. People read labels now and the young generation is focused on what they are eating. Beauty and wellness products will do well as a secular trend for most of our history Lakme meant beauty, that’s how unbranded we were. Do you feel Shaadi.com is still relevant after Tinder and other dating apps came about? Let’s understand why Tinder is used, it is for hookups and is struggling to grow its revenue in India. Shaadi.com is not an arranged marriage platform. Shaadi.com is a planned marriage platform. Indian culture has four stages of life and marriage is one of the life stages. When you are planning to marry you look for compatibility and it is not about a chemical reaction. On Shaadi.com the family and parents collaborate to find a partner. The old community networks are now dying and we replace those networks. We are bringing together people in the same life stage to find a like-minded partner. The hook-up sites don’t do that and don't understand the Indian ethos. They are applying the same global model to India which does not work beyond a certain point. You were the original internet entrepreneur with a disruptive product. Why did you not create a large business that went on to become a decacorn or a unicorn? It depends on how you define success. If the definition is labels such as decacorn and unicorn, then that's not the game we are playing. Those are vanity labels that I would rather not pursue. Our definition of success is value creation and we are long-term compounders, much like Berkshire &amp; LVMH, so in a sense our ‘overnight’ success story is still waiting to become obvious to the world. From that lens, our ROCE is perhaps the best in the industry we have only ever raised about $20 mn but created several billion in value between our operated and invested cos. Our investee companies employ thousands, have raised over $20 bn and will go on to create $100 bn in value over time, in the bargain generating tremendous wealth for the country and hopefully for us too. We boast an IRR of 52% consistently for more than a decade which is extraordinary by any standards and a testament to our approach and story. Many people build businesses but we were fortunate to create entire industries such as online matchmaking via Shaadi.com, which we still run; proptech company Makaan.com which we sold to NewsCorp very handsomely; India’s first &amp; still the largest digital ad agency, Interactive Avenues, which we sold to IPG at a benchmark price that is yet to be crossed; India’s first mobile gaming company, Mauj Mobile which spawned a massive industry. So, whether it is our customers, employees, shareholders, the country or society at large, I think we have already impacted 10s of millions and while we don’t have a market listed entity like Jio or TCS to show for it, we have delivered massive national and global level impact. Keep in mind that we are most often the first to check into investee cost and every company we have founded has been the first in its industry. Our innovations have generated billions of dollars in wealth and given rise to innumerable founders and entrepreneurs who have learnt at our companies and gone on to build massive companies of their own. Further, I am still very young and the Indian opportunity is only now unfolding. In the next couple of years, you will see some of our other bets in space exploration, mobility real edtech, &amp; sustainable fintech come into the limelight besides something very special we are building on our own. So, in short, I still remain the OG and if you force me to use your labels we have birthed not one or two but several Unicorns &amp; Decacorns and that too with very limited capital. It is perhaps one of the most spectacular untold stories of value creation in the digital economy. Ola is one company that is headed for an IPO and you own 2% in the company. How did that happen? When we invested in Ola, there was not much of a concept of venture funding and the company did not have any suitors so we were able to get in at a very attractive valuation and hold an extremely healthy minority stake which obviously has been diluted over time. I think the network effects are so large that it is hard for others to get into it. I am still a shareholder and looking forward to the initial public offering. I invested in 2012 and when I met Bhavish first, I did not understand the problem he was solving as I live in Mumbai where cabs are available. So I did not think there was a problem. A few days later when I was in Delhi and needed a cab, I was told that they would call a taxi stand. After I came back from Delhi, I realised there was a problem everywhere. And I used to call the call centre and Bhavish used to answer the call centre, which showed me his commitment and reminded me of myself when I had started and so I invested.
