New Delhi, Feb 3 () Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (HUDCO) on Monday reported a 37 per cent fall in its consolidated net profit at Rs 205.89 crore in the quarter ended December.
 Its net profit stood at Rs 328.10 crore in the year-ago period, the company said in a regulatory filing.
 However, total income rose to Rs 1,802.39 crore in the third quarter of this fiscal from Rs 1,319.65 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. MJH MR

HUDCO Q3 profit down 37 % at Rs 206 cr

New Delhi, Feb 25 () State-owned Housing and Urban Development Corporation (Hudco) on Tuesday said its board will meet this week to consider raising up to Rs 28,000 crore through issue of bonds. The shares of Hudco were trading at Rs 31.85 a piece on BSE, down 1.24 per cent. "A meeting of board of directors of the company is scheduled to be held on Friday wherein the matter relating to raising of funds through issue of bonds/debentures (including tax-free bonds, capital gain bonds up to Rs 28,000 crore will be considered," Hudco said in a filing to BSE. With an authorised capital of Rs 2,500 crore, as on date Hudco has a paid up equity of Rs 2,001.90 crore, according to its website. SID SID ANSANS

Hudco board to consider raising up to Rs 28,000 cr via bonds this week

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=state-run+companies">State-owned companies</a> like Indian Railways Finance Corporation (IRFC), <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=National+Highways+Authority+of+India+">National Highways Authority of India</a> (NHAI) and Housing &amp; Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) are rolling out tax-free bonds of around Rs 18,000 crore! 
 
The collective <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=tax-free+bonds">tax-free bonds</a> will be out over next month. 
 
This will trigger rush to buy these bonds as people could not buy it earlier. 
 Reportedly, IRFC will roll out bonds worth Rs 4,532 crore at retail <keyword id="6371181" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="interest-rates">interest rates</keyword> of at least 7.30% for at least 10-year maturities. 
 
HUDCO will sell around Rs 3,500 crore of tax-free bonds, whereas NHAI will roll out nearly Rs 10,000 crore tax-free bonds. 
 
"Large issue size will help investors to lock in at attractive rates over a long period with tax efficiency. Most investors, especially retail, didn't get the desired allotment in tax-free issuances a few weeks ago due to small issue sizes," Ajay Manglunia, head of fixed income at Edelweiss Securities, told ET. 
 
Industry experts point out that individuals nearing retirement would buy such bonds as they are safe also to invest for they are state-run firms.

Government-run companies are rolling out tax-free bonds of Rs 18,000 crore collectively!

<ul><li><keyword id="94272" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="keshub-mahindra" source="Orion">Keshub Mahindra</keyword>, the former chairman of <keyword id="1263014" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mahindra-and-mahindra-group" source="Orion">Mahindra and Mahindra group</keyword> was amongst the world’s oldest billionaires. </li><li>The Wharton University graduate had dreamt of becoming either a soldier or a farmer as a young boy. </li><li>Keshub Mahindra, who had seen licence raj and many other government controls in the 50s and 60s, believed that the pressures helped the Indian <keyword id="34478" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="auto-industry" source="Orion">auto industry</keyword> become cost competitive. </li></ul>The patriarch of the Mahindra group, Keshub Mahindra died on Wednesday, at the age of 99. “The industrial world has lost one of the tallest personalities today. Shri Keshub Mahindra had no match; the nicest person I had the privilege of knowing. I always looked forward to meetings with him and was inspired by how he connected business, economics and social matters. The former chairman of Mahindra and Mahindra group who had retired in 2012, was amongst the world’s oldest billionaires as per a recent Forbes report. He had just re-entered the coveted billionaire list in 2023. The businessman turned philanthropist, however, leaves a larger and wider legacy — he was instrumental in helping build India’s indigenous auto industry into a force to be reckoned with. ‘We don’t know a damn thing about the auto industry’ Keshub Mahindra’s story is intertwined with the history of the auto industry in India. The Mahindra and Mahindra group had started two generations before Anand Mahindra, the nephew of Keshub Mahindra and chairman emeritus of the group. The company was founded by two brothers Kailash Chandra Mahindra and Jagdish Chandra Mahindra in 1945, as a steel trader. Kailash Chandra Mahindra, the father of Keshub Mahindra had met the inventor of Jeep, Barney Roos in Washington. That’s how the company became an assembler of Willys jeep in India. A young Keshub, freshly graduated from Wharton University and grown up beyond his boyhood dreams of becoming either a soldier or a farmer, was called into a meeting with the defence minister. This was in 1947 when India had just won its freedom but was finding it tough to find spare parts for their tanks from Britain and other countries. At the meeting, the government said that it was planning to develop its own automotive industry. “We don’t know a damn thing about the auto industry,” Keshub Mahindra told the defence minister. That, however, did not stop neither Mahindra nor the only other auto companies existing back then — Premier Automobiles and Hindustan Motors – from building indigenous vehicles. M&amp;M started manufacturing jeeps in a full do-it-yourself (DIY) mode — when there were no suppliers or vendors. They had to make engines, transmissions, axles, stampings, the body – everything to produce 2,000 Jeeps a year, Keshub Mahindra said in an <a href="https://www.autocarindia.com/interviews/india-at-75-keshub-mahindra-%E2%80%93-the-man-who-saw-it-all-425406">interview with Autocar</a>. <div type="image" title="Keshub Mahindra anand mahindra" msid="99426813" hostid="261" sizebytes="59302" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Source: BCCL&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Licences, price controls and capacity caps For another 30 years, the group had fought many battles both from the supply chain ecosystem angle as well as the many rules and regulations back in the day. It was the age of licence raj and M&amp;M was not given a licence to make cars, no matter how many times they applied. In fact they were rejected a dozen times – as they tried to manufacture cars in partnership with various multinationals. Moreover, companies could not increase prices without government nod, and added to that even their capacities were limited by rules. Once, the group was sent a letter by the government asking them why they should not prosecute them for exceeding capacity. “Prosecute us,” Keshub responded to the letter. Forced to do things he described as ‘crazy’, Keshub also admits that it has made Indian manufacturers control costs with frugal engineering and much more —- a move that has made them competitive. It was a good thing in the long run, he admitted in the Autocar interview. The courage of change His can-do attitude is also one of his guiding principles as <a href="https://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/dream-impossible-life-lessons-keshub-mahindra/">he shared in a Wharton page</a>, “Dream about achieving the impossible — because impossible things do happen. Only the brave have the courage to transform their lives,” he shared. He served as the chairman of M&amp;M for 48 years and ably steered the group through winds of change. The group now has interests across software, financial services and more. In FY22, the group’s revenue stood at ₹90,170 crore as against ₹74,277.78 crore in FY21. The auto business too grew exponentially both organically and inorganically under Keshub Mahindra’s leadership and expanded into light commercial vehicles, tractors and even farm equipment. It acquired companies like Punjab Tractors and Gujarat Tractors and also acquired companies in South Korea like SsangYong Motor, entered the two-wheeler market and also made early strides into the electric vehicle (EV) market by purchasing REVA. Years later, Anand Mahindra and his father Harish Mahindra also started another unique partnership when they lent ₹1 lakh to Uday Kotak for a business that went on to become the Kotak Mahindra Bank. Not just business Even before he retired in 2012, Keshub did not dedicate all his time to business itself — and made space and time for philanthropy. Keshub also founded Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), and ran it for many years. “During this time, I visited some of the most deplorable slums in India. I would come home and wonder how people could live like this. That had a huge influence on my life,” he told Wharton. Educating girls and housing for the cancer afflicted are some of the many charity projects he supported with the help of his family.

Keshub Mahindra: The man who thought impossible is possible

New Delhi, Feb 3 () US fast food chain McDonald's has selected MMG Group chairman Sanjeev Agrawal as its new partner to operate its outlets in north and east India, the company said.
 The development comes almost nine months after McDonald's bought estranged partner Vikram Bakshi's 50 per cent stake in Connaught Plaza Restaurants Ltd (CPRL), a joint venture, which has the licence to run its restaurants in north and east India.
 A McDonald's spokesperson said Agarwal is the new partner of the company for the two markets.
 "Agrawal has a strong understanding and passion for the McDonald's brand, insights into the local market, and a proven track record of driving quality and innovation in the food and beverage and hospitality industries," said McDonald's Asia Director Corporate Relations Barry Sum.
 Agrawal (55) is the group Chairman of MMG Group, which has interests in bottling and marketing of soft drinks, oil and gas, hospitality, among others.
 MMG Group also controls Moon Beverages, which is among the key bottlers for American beverage maker Coca-Cola in north India from 1994 and is manufacturing and distribution of Coca Cola, Limca, Sprit, Maaza, Thums UP, Fanta, Minute Maid, Coke Zero &amp; Kinley.
 Sum added that Agrawal is the right strategic partner for McDonald's to grow its brand presence in north and east India.
 McDonald's, however, has not share the terms and condition of the agreement. 
 Agarwal could not be contacted till filing of the story.
 The company also refrained to comment on the ongoing matter between McDonald's and its former JV partner Vikram Bakshi before the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), where state-run HUDCO has opposed sale/transfer of share by Bakshi to the fast food chain after settlement.
 "McDonald's remains a shareholder of CPRL, and continues to hold the shares that were acquired from Vikram Bakshi and his holding company in CPRL," said Sum, adding that Robert Hunghanfoo continues to head CPRL.
 In May last year, McDonald's had announced an out-of-court settlement agreeing to buy Bakshi's stake in their joint venture.
 The details of the pact, including financial terms, were not disclosed.
 They has approached the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, to withdraw the suits, filed against each other, however, it was opposed by the state run Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO).
 HUDCO, which is claiming dues of Rs 194.98 crore from Bakshi and his related entities, in its intervention plea filed before the NCLAT, informed that notices regarding orders of the debt recovery tribunal (DRT) was already served to both the partner.
 HUDCO had contended that the said settlement is against the interim order passed by the DRT in a case pending against Vikram Bakshi.
 In September 2019, NCLAT had said it would review the settlement between fast food major McDonald's and its Indian partner Vikram Bakshi over the sale of his shares in Connaught Plaza Restaurants Ltd (CPRL).

McDonald's selects Sanjeev Agrawal as new partner for north, east India markets

Mumbai, Jun 10 () Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) on Wednesday said V Satya Venkata Rao has taken charge as its new Deputy Managing Director. Rao has more than 29 years of experience in financial institutions like IFCI Ltd and Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO). He has handled several departments including legal, human resource, corporate communications and worked as Central Public Information Officer and Appellate Authority under the Right to Information Act, a release said. Rao has also served as a nominee director on the boards of listed and non-listed companies. A day after India's sovereign rating downgraded, Moody's Investors Service on Tuesday cut ratings of eight non-financial companies, including <keyword id="6354512" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, <keyword id="6357150" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tcs">TCS</keyword>, ONGC, and three banks SBI, HDFC Bank and EXIM. It also downgraded seven Indian infrastructure issuers, including NTPC, NHAI, GAIL and Adani Green Energy Restricted Group, by one notch. Issuer ratings of IRFC and HUDCO have also been lowered. Moody's said the economic disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the downgrade of the sovereign rating are the key drivers for Tuesday's rating actions. On Monday, Moody's had downgraded India's sovereign rating for the first time in 22 years by a notch to 'Baa3', which is the lowest investment grade -- just a notch above junk status. Accordingly, the long-term issuer ratings of eight non-financial companies -- Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Oil India Ltd, <keyword id="6356834" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-oil-corporation">Indian Oil Corporation</keyword> Ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Petronet LNG, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys -- have been downgraded. The outlooks on all these ratings are negative. However, Moody's affirmed the issuer rating of Reliance Industries but revised the outlook to negative from stable. With regard to ratings of banks, Moody's has downgraded the long-term local and foreign currency deposit ratings of HDFC Bank and SBI to Baa3 from Baa2, and the long-term issuer rating of EXIM India to Baa3 from Baa2, with negative outlook. The deposit ratings of these banks are at the same level as India's Baa3 sovereign rating. Consequently, Moody's has downgraded HDFC Bank's baseline credit assessment (BCA) to baa3 from baa2. Moody's has placed the Baa3 long-term local and foreign currency deposit ratings of <keyword id="6358007" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bank-of-baroda">Bank of Baroda</keyword>, Bank of India, <keyword id="6357132" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Canara-Bank">Canara Bank</keyword> and <keyword id="63524" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Bank-of-India">Union Bank of India</keyword> and their BCAs under review for downgrade. Moody's downgrades ratings of 8 firms including Infosys, TCS and ONGC

New Delhi, Jan 1 () Whos who of the corporate world - from Reliance to Tatas to ArcelorMittal - were in corporate law court but what took the cake was the NCLAT order reinstating the ousted Tata Sons head Cyrus Mistry as it shocked as well as shook the entire business world.
 Though the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) passed several orders/judgments in the insolvency and corporate matters in 2019 which include Tata-Mistry feud, Essar Steel, Jet Airways, IL&amp;FS, Jaypee Infratech, and Reliance Communications, several of them failed to pass the scrutiny of the Supreme Court and were either set aside or modified.
 While for 2020, NCLAT's calendar is marked with several important matters and would start the year with the government-controlled Registrar of Companies (RoC) plea to modify the order passed by it in the Tata-Mistry case, in which it had directed to change the status of Tata Sons from a private company to a public company, the holding firm of USD 110 billion empire.
 Besides, judgments are also expected from the appellate tribunal on other important matters which include the insolvency of Bhushan Power &amp; Steel Ltd in which JSW has challenged attachment of assets by the ED; resolution of IL&amp;FS group which has an outstanding debt of over Rs 90,000 crore; and McDonald's-Bakshi matter, where state-run HUDCO is opposing settlement offer by US-based QSR major.
 In the Essar Steel insolvency matter, the NCLAT in July this year while giving a final go ahead to the global steel giant ArcelorMittal for Rs 42,000 crore takeover of Ruia's firm had put all the operational creditors of the company almost at par with the secured financial creditors over the disbursement of funds.
 It had shaken the banking world as the appellate tribunal had altered the plan voted by Essar Steel's lenders and approved by NCLT Ahmedabad and was challenged before the Supreme Court.
 The apex court on November 15, not only upheld the primacy of financial creditors in the distribution of funds received under the corporate insolvency scheme but also ruled that the CoC would have a final say in the resolution plans under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
 In August, the NCLAT ordered for liquidation of auto component maker Amtek Auto declining its lenders plea for extension of the insolvency resolution process deadline.
 This was challenged by the lenders before the Supreme Court, which last month directed the resolution professional to invite fresh bids for the auto component maker within 30 days.
 In another case, the NCLAT in November rejected the bid of Dhanuka Laboratories for Orchid Pharma and set aside the approval granted by the Chennai-bench of the NCLT.
 The NCLAT observed that the approved resolution value, which stood at Rs 1,146.04 crore, proposed by Dhanuka Laboratories was lower than the liquidation value of Rs 1,309 crore of the company. This was challenged by the CoC before the Supreme Court which granted a stay on the order last month.
 In July, the NCLAT permitted fresh bidding for the debt-laden Jaypee Infratech and extended the resolution period for another 90 days. However, in November the apex court annulled the order and allowed only two revised resolution plans from NBCC (India) Ltd and Suraksha Realty for voting.
 The apex court had directed to complete the resolution process of Jaypee Infratech, which is developing about 32,000 flats, in which it has delivered 9,500 units, in 90 days.
 The NCLAT order of January last directing initiation of insolvency proceedings against investment firm La-Fin Financial Services over the plea of IL&amp;FS Financial Services had similar outcome at the apex court. The order was set aside by the Supreme Court which held that IL&amp;FS Financial Services plea was beyond the period of three-years mentioned in Article 137 of the Limitation Act, and thus is time-barred and cannot be proceeded further.
 In 2019, some of the NCLAT orders also raised eyebrows. The order in case of Sterling Biotech was such a case. The appellate tribunal not only stayed the liquidation of the company but also directed to hand over the management to its promoters, including absconding Nitin Jayantilal Sandesara and Chetankumar Jayantilal Sandesara.
 The NCLAT also said that the Enforcement Directorate will probe and ascertain whether the money paid by the absconding promoters is not from the proceeds of crime.
 NCLAT Chairman Justice S J Mukhopadhaya, who is going to hang his boots in March 2020 is also expected to pass the final judgment on fair trade regulator CCI's nod to Walmart's USD 16-billion acquisition of Flipkart.
 The appellate tribunal had reserved its order in January last over the plea filed by trade association CAIT challenging approval by the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
 In October, the NCLAT gave its go-ahead to NCLT Mumbai to decide on Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd's bid for Dighi Port, however, it said that the outcome would be subject to its final order.
 In the same month, the appellate tribunal also rejected the oil ministry's plea seeking USD 314 million (around Rs 2,245 crore) from insolvency-bound Videocon Industries in unpaid profit petroleum from the Ravva oil and gas fields in the eastern offshore. KRH ANZ
