Firozabad (UP), Apr 25 () Seven more people tested positive for coronavirus in Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, taking the total number of cases here to 78, an official said. All the fresh cases have been reported from hotspot in the Ramgarh police station area here, Chief Medical Officer SK Dixit said, adding that the area has been completely sealed off. A list of people who came in contact with them is being prepared, the CMO added. According to Health Minister the number of COVID-19 cases has gone up to 1,621 in Uttar Pradesh, 984 in Telangana and 955 in Andhra Pradesh.

Lucknow April 20 () With no let up in COVID-19 cases in some districts of Uttar Pradesh, the administration in Lucknow, Agra and Firozabad have decided against giving any kind of relaxation during the continued lockdown. Reports from other districts in the state on giving relaxation were awaited. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, during a video conference with respective district magistrates on Sunday night, had authorised them to take a call on giving relaxation from Monday after assessing the prevailing conditions there. He directed authorities in 19 districts with 10 or more coronavirus cases to take extra precautions.District officials have been asked to work out the modalities regarding opening of specified industries, banks and other units in the remaining 56 districts that have reported less than 10 coronavirus cases.Lucknow District Magistrate Abhishek Prakash said since the state capital has a large number of hotspots and COVID-19 patients, it is required that more alertness is maintained . Therefore, COVID-19 protocol and lockdown will continue as before, he said.In view of the said orders, only emergency services are functioning as before, an official spokesman said, adding that state secretariat is functioning partially with some conditionsIn Firozabad, district authorities are strictly maintaining the lockdown and the hotspot areas are completely sealed off with no new activity being allowed anywhere from Monday.Similarly, there is also no relaxation in in Agra with police in large numbers patrolling the streets and lanes.The government has directed that eleven industries including steel, refineries, cement, chemicals, fertilizers, garments (excluding apparel), foundries, paper, tyre, common effluent treatment plants and sugar mills can start operations with certain conditions. However, only the manufacturing and industrial units have been permitted to function and not their headquarters or administrative offices.Chief Secretary R.K. Tiwari has issued a detailed advisory for these industries, asking them to take adequate precautions for the safety of their staff. Lucknow, Apr 8 () The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday decided to completely seal off coronavirus hotspots in 15 districts to stop to the spread of the infection, announcing curfew-like restrictions there. The orders came as the state's coronavirus count reached 343 with 11 fresh cases being reported. The news triggered panic buying with earlier reports wrongly saying that entire districts will be sealed off. "People were buying 10-15 packets of milk," said Khusro Ather, a resident of Noida on the outskirts of Delhi. "Some people had come along with their domestic helps to carry the large amount of stuff they were buying." The restrictions in these pockets will be stricter than those under the lockdown already in place. Unlike in the lockdown so far, people will not be allowed to go out to buy groceries. Officials said the administration will ensure doorstep delivery of items like vegetables and milk in these clusters. Passes issued to allow essential movement are cancelled in these hotspots which will remain "sealed" up to April 15 morning, when the current three-week nationwide lockdown is scheduled to end. In addition to the creation of these containment zones, the government said it is doubling testing for coronavirus – about 1,500 tests will now be conducted in the state every day – and will make wearing face covers mandatory for those moving out of their homes. The identified hotspots include 22 clusters in Agra, 13 in Ghaziabad, 12 each in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Kanpur, seven in Meerut and four each in Varanasi, Sahanaranpur and Maharajganj. "The passes issued to people for the lockdown period are also being suspended," he said. He said all supplies will be made at the doorstep and movement of people will be restricted, as when a curfew is imposed. Additional Chief Secretary Awanish Awasthi said loudspeaker-fitted vehicles will be deployed to convey messages in these areas. Fire tenders will be used for sanitisation. "Drones will be used, if required," he said. Media will not be allowed in the sealed-off areas. "Only medical vehicles will be allowed and nobody will be allowed to perform any other activity," he said. The directive came from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after a review meeting here. Out of the 343 people testing positive for coronavirus so far in Uttar Pradesh, 187 are linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi, Principal Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said. The congregation was held in Delhi's Nizamuddin area in March and several people who attended it later travelled to different parts of the country, carrying the virus. So far, three people have died of COVID-19 in the state and 26 patients recovered. A woman from Shamli district is likely to be discharged from hospital soon, an official said. Later in the day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asked officials to further divide the hotspots into sectors and appoint a magistrate for each of the area to keep tabs on the situation, an official spokesperson said. All business and other establishments will remain closed in the hotspots and the doorstep delivery of essential commodities will be strengthened, the spokesman said. The Khairabad area is under surveillance of drone cameras, CCTV cameras, district police chief L R Kumar said. One death each has been reported from Meerut, Basti, Varanasi and Agra districts.The total number of cases on Wednesday was 361.Principal Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said as many as 410 people have tested positive so far in 40 districts of the state. Of the total cases, 225 are linked to last month's Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi, he said, adding that a total of 31 people have recovered so far.Prasad said wearing masks while venturing out has been made mandatory in the state under the Epidemic Act."Wearing mask has been made mandatory in the state. If any citizen has to go out of the house under special circumstances then it is compulsory for him to put a mask, in case of violation of the rule, strict action will be taken against such a person," he said.A bulletin issued here said t19 fresh cases were reported from Agra, taking the total number of cases there to 83. Of the total cases in Agra, 43 are linked to the Tablighi Jamaat, it said.Gautam Budh Nagar district has 63 COVID-19 cases, Meerut (38), Lucknow (29), Ghaziabad (25), Saharanpur (20), Shamli (17), Firozabad (11) and Sitapur (10), the bulletin said. (Eds: Updates tally, adds details ) Lucknow, Apr 10 () The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Uttar Pradesh rose to 433 on Friday, with 23 new cases being reported, of whom 21 are linked to the Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi, the state government said. It said the deadly virus has now spread to 40 of the state's 75 districts, with Agra being the worst hit at 88 positive cases and one death. "As many as 431 people have tested positive so far in the state. These cases are in 40 districts. Of the (total positive cases), 32 have been treated," Principal Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad told reporters. In a bulletin later, the state government updated the total number of positive cases to 433, of whom 245 are linked to the Tablighi Jamaat event. Among the fresh cases, six were reported from Meerut, five each from Agra and Amroha, three from Ghazipur, and one each from Gautam Buddh Nagar, Basti, Auraiya , Rampur, the bulletin said. Twenty-one of the 23 fresh cases are related to the Tablighi Jammat event in New Delhi in March, it said. The district wise tally in the state is: Agra (88), Gautam Buddh Nagar (64), Meerut (44), Lucknow (29), Ghaziabad (25), Saharanpur (20), Shamli (17), Firozabad (11) and Sitapur (10), the bulletin said. The districts that have recoded cases in single digits are: Basti, Kanpur and Varanasi (nine each); Bulandshahr (eight), Amroha (7); Hapur, Maharajganj, Pratapgarh, Rampur and Bareilly (six each); Ghazipur, Baghpat (five each); Azamgarh, Hathras, Muzaffarnagar, Jaunpur and Lakhimpur Kheri (four each), it said. Besides, Auraiya has reported three cases; Pilibhit , Banda, Mirzapur, Rae Bareli, Kaushambi, Mathura and Hardoi (two each); and Moradabad, Shahjahanpur, Barabanki, Bijnore, Prayagraj, Badaun (one each), the bulletin said, Earlier in the day, Prasad had said, "So far, 9,041 samples have been tested of which 8,250 were found to be negative, 431 were found positive and results of the rest are still awaited." Presently, around 1,000 samples being tested every day, but the facilities at testing centres will be ramped up to 1,500 to 2,000, Prasad added. Till Thursday, there were 410 cases in the state of whom 225 are linked to the Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi last month, he said. The death toll in the state due to COVID-19 stands at four - one each in Meerut, Basti, Varanasi and Agra districts. (Eds: Adds more details) Lucknow, Apr 4 () With 60 more people confirmed positive for the coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, the total number of cases climbed to 234 in the state, officials said. Of the total cases, at least 94 are linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi, they said. As many as 21 cases have fully recovered while others are undergoing treatment at various hospitals, Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said. The state's count on Friday was 174 and two people -- one each in Basti and Meerut -- have died. There has been a steep rise in the cases in the past two days, primarily because of a number of those linked to the Tablighi Jamaat testing positive, Prasad said. According to an official bulletin, the total cases testing positive in the state has reached 234, with 60 fresh cases being reported on Saturday. The number of districts of the state affected by the virus has also gone up to 28, as per the bulletin said. Cases were reported from Agra, Ghaziabad, Gautambudh Nagar, Varanasi, Shamli, Baghpat, Ghazipur, Pratapgarh, Saharanpur, Banda, Maharajganj, Hathras and Mirzapur on Saturday. An aggressive campaign has been undertaken and those showing symptoms are quarantined and their samples sent for testing, Prasad said. The numbers are rising because of an aggressive strategy that has been adopted by the state for containment of the spread of the virus, he said, adding a total of 57,963 people who have come from abroad to the state were taken into surveillance, out of which 41,506 have completed 28-day quarantine period. Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said a total of 1,281 people associated with the Jamaat have been identified, of which 977 have been quarantined. Besides, 306 foreigners have been identified in the state and 36 FIRs have been registered under the Foreigners Act, he said, adding that 228 passports have been seized. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will hold a video conference with religious leaders of different districts on Sunday, Awasthi said. The chief minister has directed that places which have been identified as hotspots, the district magistrates should launch all out efforts to minimise the load of infection to ensure that the disease is controlled.
