TIME called Reliance 'India's Juggernaut'. This is the second time that Reliance has found its way into the TIME list. Jio Platforms, the firm that holds digital properties of the conglomerate, was included in the inaugural TIME 100 Most Influential Companies List of 2021. Serum Institute is the other Indian company on the list. TIME listed Reliance in the 'Titans' category (one of the five categories under which the companies were divided, other being Leaders, Disrupters, Innovators, and Pioneers). Tata was listed in 'Titan's' category while Serum under 'Pioneers'. "Reliance Industries was founded as a textile and polyester company 58 years ago by Dhirubhai Ambani. Today the sprawling conglomerate -- which has aligned its growth with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a 'self-reliant' India -- is the country's most valuable company, with a market capitalisation of more than USD 200 billion," TIME said. Now led by Dhirubhai's son Mukesh, the Mumbai-based company has ventures in energy, retail, and telecommunications, among others, and has made its chairman Asia's richest man, it said. The publication went on to stated that in February, Reliance came out on top in a fiercely competitive race to dominate India's burgeoning streaming market by striking a USD 8.5 billion merger deal with Disney's India business. "The deal will bring together more than 100 television channels and give the combined group around a 31 per cent share of India's streaming market compared to rivals Netflix and Amazon Prime with 8 per cent each," according to analytics firm Comscore. Reliance has revolutionised several economic sectors in the world's most populous country by making world-class products and services available at affordable prices with multiple innovations. Under Mukesh Ambani, the firm's telecom arm Jio revolutionised India's digital landscape and drove digital inclusion on an unprecedented scale with the most affordable mobile data tariffs in the world. It set up the world's largest single location refining complex. Reliance Retail is ranked among the top 100 retailers globally and in FY24 it registered 1.06 billion footfalls across its 18,800+ stores (67 per cent of which are in small towns and villages). Reliance is investing USD 10 billion in building the most comprehensive ecosystem for new energy and new materials in India and has set an ambitious goal to reach net-zero carbon by 2035. TIME described Serum as the world's biggest vaccine maker, churning out billions of vaccines. The company makes 3.5 billion doses every year, including for measles, polio, and most recently, HPV. "Serum's CEO Adar Poonawalla says the company's success can largely be chalked up to its private ownership. Not being beholden to shareholders allows it to keep vaccine prices low (the R21 will cost USD 4 a shot)," the publication said. Tata Group, it said, was founded in 1868 and has a vast portfolio extending from steel, software, watches, subsea cables, and chemicals, to salt, grains, air-conditioners, fashion, and hotels. "But as rivals have aggressively courted new businesses, it struggled to keep up with stiff competition. In 2017, after over a century of family management, N Chandrasekaran took over as chairman despite having no personal ties to the family -- highly unusual when India's business landscape is ruled by family succession plans," TIME said. As chair, he has transformed the group by investing in tech manufacturing, AI, and semiconductor chips. In 2023, it became the first Indian company to assemble iPhones, and is building another plant, it said, adding that in September, Tata announced a partnership with Nvidia to develop an AI cloud in India. "And this year, it announced plans for the country's first major semiconductor manufacturing facility. The moves seem to be paying off: in February, Tata's combined market capitalisation reached a whopping USD 365 billion, more than the entire economy of India's neighbour and rival, Pakistan," it added. However, most of its 100 or so clients are finance executives with an average starting net worth of $100 million — enough to pay the company's annual $75,000 to $150,000 membership fees.A few prefer to stay under the radar. But over the last few years — especially with the proliferation of Instagram — most have started wanting to "feel special, feel like a celebrity, and for people to know how much they're worth," India said.For Sienna Charles' clients, this means requesting security, hotel check-ins from the privacy of their car instead of at the front desk, and a motorcade of four to eight vehicles. They're not for an entourage — just to "arrive in style, emulating the glitz and glam they've seen in movies," a spokesperson said. A desire to experience what it's like to be Rihanna, surrounded by cameras as she walks down the streets of New York City."The amount of wealth these people have amassed is absolutely incredible and only happens to less than 1% of people," India said. "So they should feel special, and I think they want to be recognized."But dig a bit deeper, and it'll also reveal gripes about the hospitality industry.Good luck booking the best hotels and restaurants if you're ultrawealthy but not famous."Nobody's getting recognized unless you are a celebrity," India said. "You could be a billionaire in New York and not even be able to get into the top restaurants."People have to go this length to be treated this special," she added.

Fancy hotels and dinners aren't enough for wealthy travelers anymore — now some want to feel like celebrities with security and motorcades

They have no fixed address and travel constantly with their son, Noah. The conversation has been edited for length and clarity.Yusuf: My wife Sumaiya and I were childhood sweethearts who married young.I was born in London and Sumaiya in Durban, South Africa. Our lives have been nomadic since our engagement 11 years ago. When my wife got pregnant with our 14-month-old Noah, we continued traveling throughout the pregnancy and Noah's infancy.Parents often adapt their lives to their children, but we've adapted Noah to our lives. Noah was born in 2022 in the Gold Coast, Australia, where we stayed for his first few months and then continued traveling. At 14 months, Noah's visited over 10 countries.<div type="image" title="A baby on a luggage trolley in an airport" height="1013" width="860" msid="111989104" hostid="261" sizebytes="52256"></div><h2 id="c05adc27-bc61-4fa4-b75d-91067864bd6b">Digital nomads from day one</h2>Yusuf: Early in my career, I worked as a journalist and traveled to many difficult places, covering war and conflict.Then, in 2015, my wife and I moved to India after I got a job at the Hindustan Times. We moved to London in 2016 when I got a job at CNN International. At CNN, we noticed the critical lack of diversity in the media.Sumaiya: In 2017, we started a project training communities to tell their stories on mobile devices, which became our media business, <a target="_blank" href="http://Seen.tv">Seen TV</a>. Between 2017 and 2020, we delivered training to people in over 100 countries.It demanded a seriously nomadic life with no apartment, car, or postal address. We only slowed down in 2020 due to COVID.Yusuf: Building <a target="_blank" href="http://Seen.tv">Seen TV</a>, we fought to be the opening speaker or keynote at <a target="_blank" href="https://events.unglobalcompact.org/leaderssummit23/Speakers">conferences and events</a>.After landing the first few, we used video footage to send to other <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/C197Hd0pMlL/?igsh=MW1odmhhbnU1czBsZw%3D%3D">speaker events</a>, which had a snowball effect. In addition to being paid to speak, flights, food, and accommodation were covered.As young people on an international speaker circuit, it was an amazing way to see the world at no cost.From 2017 onwards, we didn't pay rent and had no direct debits, gym membership, or phone contracts. We were in a different place every few days.Sumaiya and I would often be double booked, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://isoj.org/speakers-2023/yusuf-omar/">speaking in different locations.</a>We could feel like two ships passing in the night. Our marriage involved meeting in airport lounges, and it was hellishly tiring.Sumaiya: COVID forced us to spend longer periods in a few locations and build our media company. Time differences and travel have been the only constants in our marriage. Everyone said we'd settle down with a baby. Our question was: why?Sumayia: Being pregnant while traveling was difficult, especially in busy airports.Once, while traveling alone in Sydney airport, I was collecting my bags when a woman rushed past and knocked a trolley into my stomach. I started crying, and the woman shouted at me and rushed off. Fortunately, both Noah and I were fine, but with a visible bump, I was extra careful on the move.Yusuf: I was in a different country, about to give a speech when it happened. I felt helpless.<div type="image" title="A family on a plane with a baby" height="1026" width="1100" msid="111989107" hostid="261" sizebytes="61308"></div><h2 id="c7b303a3-42da-4bb5-abb4-00df5da07b38">Living in hotels with a baby</h2>Yusuf: Since Noah, we're still nomadic but stay at each destination for longer, between a week and a month. Our team is dispersed across South Africa, the UK, the US, and India. We continue to travel to speak at conferences, run events, and attend business meetings. We've no fixed address and mostly stay in hotels.Living in hotels with Noah is chaos. We're out as much as possible, and I do 80% of my work walking with him in my backpack. I hate having half the hotel room taken up by stuff.Catching buses and trains with big bags is anxiety-inducing. Fitting everything in hand luggage is more difficult with Noah, but we manage.Yusuf: Our three major expenses are transport, hotels, and food.When we're on business trips, hotels are a business expense, which is the majority of why we travel.In addition to hotels, we've also spent short stints at our parents' homes and lived in a rented van.Fortunately, speaking engagements often cover our travel costs, but flexibility is crucial.The biggest change since Noah was born is that we use fewer Ubers and more car rentals because Ubers often don't have baby seats.Noah's under two years old, so we don't pay much for his flights. But, his experiences are positive in a different way.Yusuf: His life is ridiculously privileged. He travels the world, hangs out on beaches, and meets people constantly. He's even come onstage at the UN in New York to deliver a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/CyInnQ6t8jP/?igsh=ZWtjdjU4MmxkeXV0">keynote talk with me</a>.<div type="image" title="A man onstage presenting a speech holding a young child" height="4000" width="6012" msid="111989114" hostid="261" sizebytes="570614"></div>We can show up for family by attending events like Eid, Christmas, birthdays, weddings, or funerals at the drop of a hat. We can visit our family more often because we're always on the move.Sumaiya: People have obligations that keep them in one place, and we're fortunate not to have those.<h2 id="465302d3-d6c3-43a1-8434-da5358eaec1b">Long-term plans and a globetrotting nanny</h2><div type="image" title="A man with a toddler on his shoulders in Covent Garden" height="4208" width="3156" msid="111989110" hostid="261" sizebytes="562122"></div>Yusuf: We respect the people who have a permanent home and understand why they do, but settling down in the suburbs terrifies us. Provided we stay healthy, we'll continue to live like this.Right now, the pace is insane, but we want to keep taking advantage of the opportunities for us and <a target="_blank" href="http://Seen.TV">Seen TV</a> before Noah turns two.The next priority is finding a full-time nanny to travel with us. We rarely have people we can leave Noah with, so there are no date nights or downtime. In the last month, we've hired nannies in some cities, which was game-changing.<div type="image" title="Baby crawling in the sand with his mother" height="1516" width="1270" msid="111989101" hostid="261" sizebytes="55716"></div>Yusuf: We plan to keep traveling extensively before Noah starts schooling but stay longer in each place, perhaps for a month or even a year. Options like unschooling, homeschooling, or remote learning appeal to us rather than conventional schooling.Sumaiya: You can build a routine without a fixed location. For example, Noah can have story time in bed anywhere. We like to swim with him daily, which is usually possible wherever we go.Yusuf: The key is finding the right partner. Opting for a nomadic life is complicated. You need flexibility, spontaneity, and minimal materialism in a partner.

We live in hotels full-time with our 14-month-old baby. We won't be settling in the suburbs.

<ul><li>Resumption of international travels, conferences, G20 meets, and weddings are driving demand for hotels, say analysts.</li><li>The demand for leisure travel has also sustained, analysts say.</li><li>Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore are likely to lead revenue per available room (RevPAR) growth, said a report by Nuvama Institutional Equities.</li></ul>The <keyword id="46343" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hotel-industry" source="Orion">hotel industry</keyword>, which has been recovering from its pandemic lows for the last few months, is expected to post record earnings in the January-to-March quarter, expect analysts. “Q4FY23 will be a record quarter owing to a sustained travel surge, bunched-up weddings and normalisation of international travel,” said analysts at Nuvama Institutional Equities. Analysts say that the hotel industry has been in a recovery zone ever since the opening up of the economy with resumption of international travels owing to social events and corporate events. “Leisure was the first segment to pick up during recovery; this hasn’t stalled or waned even after the economy opened up. International travel resumed as there were social events, corporate events and MICE. There is no slowdown in demand currently,” said the report. More boost from G20 events In spite of a good showing ever since the lockdowns ended, there is scope for more growth hereon, expect analysts. “We believe, on the high base that the sector is at, incremental demand and supply shall be in sync, normalising rate movements. Key upside could come from sustained demand for leisure travel, normalising international travel and events such as the <keyword id="42982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="g20-summit" source="Orion">G20 summit</keyword>,” said the Nuvama report. Based on the G20 calendar, there are several events scheduled in March and April 2023 to be held in cities like Amritsar, Gandhinagar, Mumbai, Chennai, Udaipur, Visakhapatnam, Darjeeling, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kumarakom, Goa, Varanasi, and Bhubaneswar. The G20 holds annual summits where leaders from member countries gather to discuss global economic issues. India holds the G20 presidency this year. From a high base In fact, the strong performance of hotel companies in the December quarter reflects a strong uptick in demand. Tata group hospitality firm Indian Hotels Company’s net profit in Q3 jumped four times to all-time high at ₹383 crore on the back of robust demand. “Buoyed by a strong demand in the third quarter, both leisure and business hotels in key domestic markets reported occupancy of over 70% and a rate growth of 27% as compared to pre-Covid levels,” said Indian Hotels Company in an exchange filing. Adding to it, even Lemon Tree in Q3 reported a significant jump in net profit, which rose to ₹48.6 crore as against a loss of ₹5.2 crore in the same period last year. Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore to lead regional growth for the industry Analysts say that the demand outlook for the sector in 2023 will remain robust on the back of events such as world cup hockey and cricket, apart from the ongoing G20. It will also bode well for more price increases this year. “For CY23, companies are budgeting average room rate (ARR) growth of 5–10% with a 2–5% increase in occupancies,” said a report by Nuvama Institutional Equities. R<a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/latest/corporate/story/hotel-prices-in-india-rise-15-20-so-far-in-2023-heres-why-370227-2023-02-14">eports </a>say that hotel prices across destinations have risen in the last few months due to wedding season, return of <keyword id="575625" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="corporate-travel" source="Orion">corporate travel</keyword> and events. It states that most cities have bounced back growth from pre-Covid levels. The report said that Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore are likely to lead revenue per available room (RevPAR) growth. Added to that, the report also says that tier-2 and tier-3 cities have seen a fair amount of growth too. Hotel industry bounces back after three years into the pandemic

India's diversified entity <keyword id="19896958" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ITC" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="ITC" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="ITC">ITC</keyword> plans to open more hotels overseas with neighbouring countries and the Middle East as primary target markets after opening of its first international property here, company Chairman and Managing Director <keyword id="20049280" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanjiv-Puri" source="keywords">Sanjiv Puri</keyword> said on Thursday. The company's arm <keyword id="20032522" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ITC-Hotels" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="ITC Hotels" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="ITC Hotels">ITC Hotels</keyword>, which had opened 22 new properties in the last 24 months, plans to add another 70 hotels in the next five years in India as part of expansion plans in the <keyword id="20402233" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hospitality-sector" source="keywords">hospitality sector</keyword>. Besides the hotels business, the company will look for opportunities to expand the presence of <keyword id="19931572" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FMCG" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="FMCG" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="FMCG">FMCG</keyword> and other verticals in new overseas markets as well. "We are open to exploring opportunities that come about. I think we have strong credentials in hospitality which we can take outside India now. Very clearly at the moment the focus is on proximal markets, be it for hospitality, be it for FMCG...," Puri said here at a press conference after the opening of the 352-room luxury property, <keyword id="20911944" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="itc-ratnadipa" source="keywords">ITC Ratnadipa</keyword> here. He said as the company explores and understands a place for a particular business, it may look at it as a market for other verticals as well. Citing the example of Nepal, Puri said,"We started with other businesses and are now looking at hospitality (there). Here (in Sri Lanka) we have started with hospitality...as we explore and understand the place, we will look at possibilities in some of our other sectors as well." On overseas expansion of the hospitality business, while the company's focus is more on 'proximal markets', he said,"We are open to it if there are some interesting opportunities beyond it. We will certainly be interested in pursuing that." When asked if ITC is looking at the Middle East as a market for the hospitality business, he said it is a vibrant economy right now with terrific growth plans and "if opportunity comes our way then we will certainly explore that". Puri also said the company will look to expand in more destinations in Sri Lanka going forward. "This (opening of ITC Ratnadipa) is the starting point and yes, we want to expand and grow the economy and contribute to the development of tourism in Sri Lanka," he said. When asked about ITC's overall expansion plans in the hospitality sector, he said,"We have a very healthy pipeline of 70 hotels in five years." All these 70 hotels are for the Indian domestic market and most of them will be the upscale segments. He, however, said "(For) overseas we're just starting our journey. So we have not yet got to the stage to start putting a number right here." On investments planned for the overall expansion, he did not share a specific number but said "between renovation and new properties will spend somewhere between Rs 700 crore to Rs 1,000 crore a year". When asked about the progress of the demerger of ITC Hotels and its planned public listing, Puri said it is happening in line with the indicated timelines and is expected "before the second half of this year or the end of this year". At its new property here, the company had invested about USD 500 million. It was inaugurated on Thursday by Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The ITC Ratnadipa or 'Island of Gems' has 352 guest rooms, suites and service apartments, each with private balconies with waterfront views. Earlier in the day, speaking at the opening of the new hotel, Puri said,"It is very natural for us to specifically focus on markets in proximal areas, encouraged also by our Prime Minister's (Narendra Modi) vision of neighbourhood first where Sri Lanka has a very special position. ITC is deeply committed to growing our presence and contributing to hospitality in the region." Prices of several commercial products could go up soon if this trend continues. “Many from the hosiery or garment sector need water for processing,” Arif explains. “You need water for workers as well as other needs. The government is saying it will source recycled water for the industry. In addition, initiatives are underway to “inject” 1,300 million litres of purified water into the city’s drying lakes per day, which the officials allege will help restore local groundwater levels. <keyword id="19927086" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bwssb" source="keywords">BWSSB</keyword> has also announced plans to build an array of next-gen water treatment plants near restored lake beds to purify and deliver water wherever required. Addressing the harsh summers ahead, Karnataka government officials have expressed optimism that the completion of the Cauvery Five — a massive array of treatment plants that will treat sewage to produce 100 million litres of water a day — will help make up for any deficits by July. Meanwhile, many large corporations, including Microsoft, have begun utilising water-saving tap aerators to control water flow in the Bagmane Business Park offices. The city’s water board, the BWSSB, has also launched four mobile apps to help tackle the city’s water crisis. Attempting to bridge a gap between the water department and the citizens it serves, these apps will help residents book water online, apply for borewell permissions, report water misuse and more. At 24% of its total capacity, reservoirs across Karnataka are also drying up. Despite growing shortages, the state government has assured that the Cauvery River reservoir that supplies water to Bengaluru holds sufficient water levels to last at least until June. After that, the pre-monsoon and monsoon rains are expected to replenish the water resources. However, the supply remains much lower compared to the demand, and the only way to survive this summer could be to adopt drastic water-saving measures and a few good spells of pre-monsoon showers.

New Delhi: After a wave of initial public offerings (IPOs) in recent weeks, the primary market will experience a brief slowdown, with only two new public issues scheduled for the next week, aiming to raise Rs 365 crore. There were 12 IPOs in the mainboard segment and 40 in the SME (small and medium enterprise) segment in September. IPOs scheduled for next week, beginning October 7, are <keyword id="22922418" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Garuda-Construction" source="keywords">Garuda Construction</keyword> and Engineering on the main board and <keyword id="23436926" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shiv-Texchem" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Shiv Texchem" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="Shiv Texchem">Shiv Texchem</keyword> on the SME segment. Moreover, 63 companies have already mobilised around Rs 64,000 crore via mainboard, marking a 29 per cent increase from Rs 49,436 crore collected by 57 firms through the route in 2023. The strong momentum in IPO markets is being driven by several key macroeconomic, sector-specific factors and the willingness of funds to look at new ideas. In particular, strong inflows into domestic mutual funds and robust capital formation across corporate India are playing key roles, experts said. Garuda Construction and Engineering's IPO is a mix of fresh issue of 1.83 crore equity shares and an offer of sale (OFS) of 95 lakh equity shares by promoter PKH Ventures. The price band has been fixed at Rs 92 to Rs 95 per share. About Rs 100 crore from its fresh issuance proceeds will be utilised for working capital requirements and the balance towards general corporate purposes, including unidentified inorganic acquisitions. Shiv Texchem's IPO is a completely new offering of over 61 lakh shares and is a book-built issue of Rs 101.35 crore. It has set a price band of Rs 158 to Rs 166 per equity share for the IPO. Further, the SME IPO of Khyati Global Ventures, which opened for public subscription on October 4, will close on October 8. Additionally, six companies from the SME segment are set to list in the coming week. HVAX Technologies and Saj Hotels will debut on October 7, followed by Subam Papers and Paramount Dye Tec on October 8. NeoPolitan Pizza and Foods will begin trading on October 9, with Khyati Global Ventures to follow on October 11.

It is betting big on the Indian market and is looking at expanding where IKEA plans to open its outlets in the country, although the opening of its first meeting place in Gurugram -- Lykli Gurugram -- has been pushed to 2026 from the originally planned opening in late 2025. The company on Monday unveiled the second IKEA-anchored meeting place in India at Noida which will offer a blend of retail, dining, hospitality, co-working spaces, entertainment, and cultural experiences tailored to the needs of modern urban residents. "It (Lykli Noida) is at an investment of 607 million euro...that investment is purely for the Noida project, and then we have an investment for GMP (Gurugram meeting place) as well. So I think it's around 1 billion (euro) in total for the two first projects and we don't see that it will stop with these two centres," Hylving told PTI in an interview. Last year the company had announced that it planned to open the first meeting place, Lykli Gurugram -- where it is investing 400 million euros (around Rs 3,500 crore), in late 2025. On the timeline for the opening of Lykli Gurugram, he said, "We had an intention (for late 2025). When you start up a project at an early stage, you set the target but once you get closer to understanding the full process, then you see what is achievable. So, 2026 is what we're talking for the opening of Lykli Gurugram." Elaborating further on the roadmap for Ingka Centres in India, he said, "We are looking for more opportunities, both brownfield and greenfield opportunities...We follow IKEA's expansion..." India is among the top three markets globally for IKEA and it will continue to be. There are big opportunities in India -- a big country with a lot of positive signals in terms of market growth, high education level, good qualified people, demographics is shifting in the right direction, he added. "We are looking at the locations where IKEA is now looking for opportunities. Sometimes it's possible, sometimes it's not. The cities that IKEA are looking at expanding, that is also cities that are on our map. If we can find a way together, then that's our preferred approach forward," Hylving said. On Lykli Noida, he said it will create 9,000 jobs and it will be Ingka Centres' first meeting place in the world with a hotel as part of the mixed-use development. "We're looking at opening in 2028," he said adding Lykli Noida will have around 240 partners, a hotel with 267 keys and two office towers. It is expected to attract more than 25 million visitors, Ingka Centres said. Ingka Centres offers shopping places, office space, food and beverage outlets and social activities collaborating with the local community. Ingka Centres to invest Rs 5,500 crore in India on second meeting place at Noida

However, hotel room rents which have been skyrocketing for the last few months on account of large events like G20 and more — might have hit their peak. While the domestic demand has been holding up, the push that most people expected to see from the ongoing Cricket <keyword id="22177" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="world-cup" source="Orion">World Cup</keyword> 2023, has not come in. The event started on October 5 and will end on November 19. Sanjay Sethi, MD and CEO of Chalet Hotels said that unless a World Cup is staying with a property no block booking can be expected on account of the event. “There is no specific team or anything staying with our hotels. So, whatever we get is potential visitors who are coming for the World Cup events and matches. I don't expect that to be a very large number for any hotel in the city. To begin with, it's a one day or one-and-a-half-day sort of a stay. Number two, most of the visitors for the matches are locals of the city,” he said in a Q2 earnings conference call. The revenue per available room or RevPAR, which has been growing significantly in the last one year, did not see any uptick on account of the event where 48 matches will be played across 10 locations. “Unlike expected earlier, the ICC World Cup has turned out to be a non-event as it failed to have a meaningful impact on the RevPAR for the hotels where the matches are being played. Nonetheless, domestic leisure demand has been encouraging along with improving corporate travel, which led to impressive Q2FY24 earnings in a seasonally weak quarter,” said IDBI Capital. Have hotel room rents peaked? In the month of October, the average room rates (ARR) have come down as compared to the month before, as per a report by IDBI Capital. It analyzed pricing of 171 hotels with around 33,000 keys across key eight cities over the last 24 months. “Our analysis suggests that barring Jaipur and Hyderabad, major markets witnessed decline in average pricing in the month of October, 23 on MoM basis,” said IDBI Capital. On a quarter-on-quarter basis too, September quarter’s revenue per room or RevPAR of major players has come down, though their year on year growth is very strong, along with occupancies. However, it’s also to be mentioned that the second quarter is seasonally weak for travel and hospitality due to monsoons and festivals. Most companies and their analysts are confident that they will close the financial year with a double digit revenue growth. They also hope in-bound tourism will also improve in the second half of the current financial year.
