And if there’s one business idea that stood out from the rest, it’s Hoovu Fresh - the floral startup supplying traditional puja flowers. The Hoovu Fresh sister duo of Yeshoda and Rhea Karuturi courted interest from all the Sharks but ultimately walked away with an investment worth ₹1 crore <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm7FFm9yliW/?hl=en">from Sharks </a>Peyush Bansal (co-founder Lenskart) and Aman Gupta (co-founder boAt). The Bengaluru-based startup Hoovu Fresh by Rose Bazaar started as a subscription-based flower delivery model in 2019. As per the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbtD2ImUzN4&amp;ab_channel=SETIndia">pitch on the show</a>, in just three years, Hoovu Fresh has expanded to eight cities and completed over two million orders. It’s also associated with over 300 temples and 500 farmers, and is available via multiple delivery platforms, including BigBasket, Swiggy, and Zepto, among others. But it all <a href="https://hoovufresh.com/pages/about-us">started with a desire </a>by the cofounders, Rhea and Yeshoda, “to achieve something really simple: make flowers a way of life for millions of households across India.” <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Revolutionising the traditional flower industry" comment="subhead2" text="Revolutionising the traditional flower industry">Revolutionising the traditional flower industry</cmsannotation> Although the Karuturi sisters started Hoovu – Kannada word for flower – in 2019, their love for the floral industry is not recent. By their own admission, the two grew up in floriculture farms, “hearing about harvest cycles, auction prices and freight rates.” In 1994– the same year when <keyword id="15949601" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="yeshoda-karuturi" source="Orion">Yeshoda Karuturi</keyword> was born–their father started Karuturi Global with a rose farm. Today, Karuturi is one of the <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/nri/working-abroad/ramakrishna-karuturi-man-behind-karuturi-global-worlds-largest-producer-of-cut-roses/articleshow/10973220.cms?from=mdr">world’s largest producers of cut roses</a>, spread across Ethiopia, Kenya and India. And with the growth of the family business, the sisters have directly observed the changing landscape of the flower industry in India. As they state <a href="https://hoovufresh.com/pages/about-us">on their website</a>, “we saw how the industry changed dramatically - from unorganised, fragmented markets to the setting up of the International Flower Auction Bangalore, the first exports of cut roses from Bangalore and the awe-inspiring Kenyan farm, which was the world’s largest rose farm.” However, while the supply chain in the cut-flower industry changed over the years to add value for both the producers and the end consumers, the supply chain in the ‘traditional flower’ industry remained the same - incredibly fragmented and unorganised, with high wastage. As per Hoovu Fresh, traditional or ‘puja’ flowers are the flowers an average Indian consumer uses almost daily - mostly for prayers or simple, everyday activities. “Most Indians interact with traditional flowers - jasmine, marigold, chrysanthemum, bud roses, etc - every single day. They use it in their morning prayer, to decorate their hair, to hang up in their auto, car, offices. Traditional flower usage is a ubiquitous need, just like the daily newspaper or milk,” states Hoovu Fresh. Combining their knowledge of agriculture with the untapped potential of the industry, the duo came up with a way to reduce the turnaround time from harvest to reaching the customers. Hoovu Fresh claims to have reduced the turnaround time to 12-24 hours from 36-48 hours. Furthermore, Hoovu Fresh also states that it uses innovative packaging to extend the shelf life of the flowers to 15 days from the usual 2 days. Apart from flowers, Hoovu Fresh’s product offerings <a href="https://hoovufresh.com/collections/agarbathi-and-dhoop">include </a>agarbathis, dhoop sticks and incense cones in five different flavours - Rose, Jasmine, Lavender, Sandalwood and Tulsi. Yeshoda, who has a Master's in Accounting and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Washington University in St Louis, worked as the executive director for Karuturi Global after graduation. In her role, she focused on the company’s overseas operations. Currently, she acts as the CEO of Hoovu Fresh. Rhea, who is the CTO at Hoovu Fresh, graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology and Society, with a concentration in Communication and Media. Prior to starting Hoovu Fresh with her sister, she worked with multiple publications like the Times of India, Deccan Herald, the Stanford Daily and the Bay City Beacon, among others. The Karuturi sisters are currently chasing the sweet smell of success, but Hoovu Fresh has been in the news long before Shark Tank India came knocking. Just a year after its inception, the sisters pitched Hoovu Fresh at the Techstars Bangalore Cohort in 2020. But what has grabbed the eyeballs of viewers is a pitch for which the sharks offered Rs 5 crore. CarDekho founder Amit Jain offers ₹5 crore for a pitch on 'Shark Tank India'

India's auto components industry is expected to grow around 10-15 per cent in FY24, driven by both domestic and export market demand despite fears of recession in major markets of US and <keyword id="28249" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="europe" source="Orion">Europe</keyword>, Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India said on Monday. The auto components industry which clocked a turnover of USD 56.5 billion in FY22 with a growth of 23 per cent over the previous year is expected to end FY23 with a growth of 15 per cent. The domestic components industry stands to gain from the manufacturing of components for internal combustion engines (<keyword id="51841" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ice" source="Orion">ICE</keyword>) moving to India as the major Western markets of US and Europe migrate towards electric vehicles. "In the first nine months that have gone by, that is until December 2022, our export and import continue to be really very well balanced and they are both at USD 15.1 billion," Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (<keyword id="224858" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="acma" source="Orion">ACMA</keyword>) Director General <keyword id="192232" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="vinnie-mehta" source="Orion">Vinnie Mehta</keyword> told reporters in an interaction here on the sidelines of an event organised by the industry body. He said, "We are wary of the fact of the headwinds because of recessionary trends in Europe and the US. Despite these trends, we feel that our exports are growing in the expected trajectory. We haven't found any slowdown happening in exports. Also imports, because the domestic market has picked up quite strongly." When asked about the outlook for FY24, Mehta said, "On a conservative approach, for FY24 (we) will surely grow in the range of 10-15 per cent." ACMA President <keyword id="125340" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sunjay-kapur" source="Orion">Sunjay Kapur</keyword> said, "So given the fact that it (growth) is continuing, we expect things to continue in the same way. We're not seeing any signs of a major recession in the US, the way people have talked about it last year, or the last quarter of the last calendar year. As per industry feedback, he said, "From what we're hearing, the January numbers have been good and strong, and therefore, we hope and foresee that it will continue." Also, Kapur said, "The domestic industry is looking very positive in terms of growth and we will see good growth and then carry forward whatever we lack in exports, we will see that covered by the domestic industry." Further, he said in the short to medium term Indian auto components industry is gaining from the transition to EV in the developed markets in the <keyword id="6576454" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="west" source="Orion">West</keyword>. "Anything that's happening in the ICE space, a lot of it is moving to India because a lot of tier one suppliers have discontinued investing in the ICE design and development for OEMs because of the roadmap of going electric," he added. Moreover, a lot of the traditional components that are being manufactured, also have the option to move to India, as they discontinue manufacturing in the Western world, Kapur said.
