India may leave Indonesia behind to grab the number 1 spot in the two-wheeler market for Honda Motor by next year. This is likely to happen because <keyword id="46362" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Honda-Motors">Honda Motors</keyword> is expanding at a fast clip in India, and the sales in Indonesia are dipping, said a top executive. 
 
Honda Motors is world's top two-wheeler maker and aims to sell 20 million units by 2020. For this, the performance in India as well as its neighbouring countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar is very crucial. These markets hold even more importance when the vital motorcycle markets of Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand are moving at a slow pace. 
 
"Clearly, India is the most important and biggest market," said Shinji Aoyama, the COO of Honda's motorcycles business, in an interview on the sidelines of the Tokyo Motor Show. Honda Motors looks at India as the key market in driving its sales with a volume of 7-8 million two-wheelers by 2020. 
 
"This financial year, India will catch up with Indonesian volume of 4.5 million units. Then, next year, it may overtake as the Indonesian market is seeing a decline in 
volumes," Aoyama said. 
 
For the record, the sales of Honda Motorcycle &amp; Scooter India, which is the local unit of Honda Motors, has tripled in the last four years. It reached the whopping number of 4.45 million two-wheelers in fiscal 2015, and plans to sell 4.7 million units in fiscal 2016, following it with up to 6.4 million in the following year. 
 
Aoyama, who led Honda Motorcycle &amp; Scooter India from 2007 to 2011, said that the company also plans to lead the Indian market, but has not set any time for that. "In the next three years it may happen, it may not happen, I'm not sure," he said. At present, Hero MotoCorp is leading the Indian market. Honda holds the second position by a considerable margin, and has a long way to cover this distance. 
 
Although it is fast grabbing the market share, because of strong demand for scooter, a segment where Hero MotoCorp hasn't been much successful in the recent years.

India to be Honda’s top market soon!

There's something about India as a market that's enticing the behemoths of automobiles. And they're coming in hordes. 
 The country now ranks among the top markets for Japanese automobile companies like <keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword>, Yamaha, <keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword> and <keyword id="6374528" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Toyota">Toyota</keyword> among others. 
 Although thanks to Maruti Suzuki's market leadership in the car segment, India has been topping Suzuki's global markets both in terms of volumes as well as revenues, now the situation is being replicated by other Japanese biggies like Yamaha, Honda and Toyota as India moves up the global pecking order. The <keyword id="47445" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-market">Indian market</keyword> now ranks among the top five markets globally for almost all the top Japanese automobile brands, according to an Economic Times report. 
 Take Honda Cars India, the four-wheeler local subsidiary of <keyword id="189945" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Honda-Motor-Corp-">Honda Motor Corp.</keyword> Thanks to some top-gear growth in the last two years, India now ranks as Honda's fourth biggest market by volumes. Said Jnaneswar Sen, senior vice-president, marketing &amp; sales, Honda Cars India: "India ranks after the top three markets of US, China and Japan globally thanks to our good growth run for the past two years. HCI clocked 41% growth 2014-15 selling 1.89 lakh units up from 1.34 lakh units the year before. In 2013-14, we clocked a growth of 83% year-on-year. Leaving out the luxury cars, Honda is the fastest growing car brand in India. Our current market share in India is over 7%." 
 
Honda's top-gear run has prompted the Japanese car maker to expand capacity at its second plant in Rajasthan from 1.2 lakh units to 1.8 lakh units. "Our target is to sell 3 lakh units in India by 2016-17." 
Ditto for fellow Japanese brand Yamaha which now pegs India just after its global top market Indonesia. Said Roy Kurian, VP-marketing and sales, Yamaha Motor India: "India will become Yamaha's second largest volume market after Indonesia by year-end though there will be quite a large gap between the No1 and No2 markets. Earlier Vietnam used to be our second largest market but that is now expected to slide to No3 in the pecking order." Yamaha is already adding another 1.8 million units (in phases) thanks to its new plant in Chennai. Along with its existing plant in Surajpur, the fresh capacity will take Yamaha's total two-wheeler production in India to nearly 3 million units. 
 
For Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Thailand, Indonesia and India comprise the troika of "significant markets" in the Asia Pacific region. "India stands pretty tall in Toyota's gameplan and is the third market after China and US in terms of importance," said Shekar Viswanathan, vice-chairman and whole-time direct, Toyota Kirloskar Motor told ET. 
 Even relative newcomers like <keyword id="46283" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Nissan">Nissan</keyword> are stepping on the gas for some India action. Said Arun Malhotra, MD, Nissan Motor India: "India is one of the largest hubs for the investment that the Renault-Nissan Alliance has envisaged for a very competitive market like India. Our manufacturing facility is the largest that the Alliance has developed so far across the world with a production capacity 480,000 units. NEW DELHI: <keyword id="1381889" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Honda-Cars-India">Honda Cars India</keyword> on Wednesday launched its new Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), the Mobilio at a starting price of Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The petrol car will cost Rs 6.49 lakh for the E variant; Rs 7.50 lakh for S variant and Rs 8.76 lakh for the V variant. 
 The diesel variants have been priced between Rs 7.89 lakh to Rs 10.86 lakh. The seven-seater MVP will take on the likes of Maruti <keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword> Ertiga, <keyword id="292083" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Mahindra-Xylo">Mahindra Xylo</keyword>, Nissan Evalia and even the <keyword id="6374528" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Toyota">Toyota</keyword> Innova. Its closest competitor, the Ertiga petrol starts at Rs. 5.8 lakh and goes up to to Rs. 7.3 lakh while Diesel starts at Rs. 7.22 lakh and goes up to Rs. 8.49 lakh. 
 <keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword> said that the name Mobilio has been coined from English words mobility and mobile. Honda Mobilio's deliveries will begin from today. 
 
The Honda Mobilio MPV is 4.4-metre long with a wheelbase of 2.6-metre and has a ground clearance of 185mm. While it looks similar to the Amaze sedan and Brio hatchback, it manages to be distinct with its stretched out proportions and non-boxy looks. The Mobilio looks the most distinct from the rear as all resemblance to the hatch and a sedan ends with a new set of tail lamps and plenty of curves. 
 
Moving to the interior - the Mobilio gets a two-tone colour scheme, which makes the cabin feel roomy. The seats are flexible with plenty of storage space, with a generous amount of cabin space and good amount of headroom. What is impressive is that even the third row seat gets adequate knee room and can be used for long drives. The interior of the Mobilio is similar to what we have on the Brio and Amaze. 
 
The entertainment system has been lifted from the new City, which also serves as a screen for the reversing camera on the top end variant of the car. The top end variant also gets faux wood fittings on the dash and the door, and faux leather seats. Base cargo are is at 223 L which can be enhanced to 512L in the third row fold configuration.

The Mobilio will be powered by the new 1.5-litre turbocharged Earth Dreams diesel engine that does duty on the Amaze and City churning out power of 100ps@3600 rpm and torque of 200 Nm@ 1750 rpm. The diesel engine continues to be noisy but Honda has done a better job in insulating the noise out in the Mobilio. 
 
The petrol variant gets the 1.5-litre i-VTEC unit producing a power of 119ps@6600 rpm and 145Nm of torque and is peppy and is the same that powers the City. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Mobilio also gets a bolder and sportier looking sport version in the form of RS, which comes with dynamic front and rear bumpers, projector headlamps with LED position lamps. Alloy wheels, chrome grille, tailgate spoiler and chrome exterior door handles. The RS will be available for deliveries by September 2014. 
 
The Mobilio has been developed at Honda R&amp;D Asia Pacific Co. Ltd in Bangkok, Thailand. "Honda has vast experience in offering a variety of premium MPVs to customers globally. Drawing from this varied experience, Honda engineers have used the same technological know-how and design philosophy to develop the Mobilio," said Yoshiyuki Matsumoto, Managing Officer, Honda Motor Company. "The <keyword id="6356110" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="launch">launch</keyword> of Honda Mobilio follows the success of Honda Amaze and all-new City which has led to our growth of 83 percent in the previous financial year," said Hironori Kanayama, President and CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd. 
 
The Mobilio has been launched in Indonesia in January this year and has clocked 46,000 units in sales. Honda expects sales of Asia Pacific to be at 1.2 million by 2017 and HCIL is expected to contribute 25 percent or 300,000 units in sales by then. The Mobilio is being manufactured at the company's Greater Noida plant and has 90 percent localization. HCIL is also expanding its dealer network to 230 facilities in 150 cities by end of 2014-14, with 75 percent coming up in smaller towns and cities.

New Delhi, Mar 1 () Taiwanese tyre major Maxxis Group is betting big on India, where it plans to build up to five factories, as it expects the country to play a crucial role in its chase to become a top five global player by 2025, according to a senior company official. The company, which clocked revenue of around USD 4 billion in 2019, is currently the world's 9th largest tyre brand and sees India along with Indonesia to play significant part in meeting its 2025 target. The company is investing USD 400 million on its first manufacturing plant at Sanand in Gujarat, where it is working to hike output to 60,000 units of two-wheeler tyres per day from the current 20,000 units a day, as part of the project's phase I expansion. "Maxxis has a group goal of growing into the top five globally in next five years. We have accomplished much in East Asia, Southeast Asia and have significant presence in Europe and in American market. "The next major international markets for us will be two places -- one is India and the another Indonesia, the major two-wheeler markets in the world," Maxxis India Marketing Head Bing-Lin Wu told . He further said, "in achieving the group goal of 2025, India will play a pivotal role. We have estimated a certain output from the Indian market alone that will help us to achieve that target. On backward calculations four or five production units will be the minimum requirement to achieve that." When asked about investments and timeline for setting up these plants, he said, "we will start a discussion very soon." Also, he said the investments on the new plants would be comparably lesser than on its first plant at Sanand where the company has already made "some heavy advanced investments" on machinery for processes such as mixing, vulcanising and calendering and the "capacity of one machine is so huge that it can supply to six to seven production lines". "In the subsequent plants, we will try to make an optimisation between our investments and utilising the current capacity of our Sanand plant," Wu said. At present, Maxxis India supplies two-wheeler tyres to Honda, Hero MotoCorp, Yamaha and Suzuki from its Sanand plant, while it supplies four-wheeler tyres to Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki and Jeep. Commenting on Sanand plant expansion, Lu said, "we have used half of the land (106 acres) we got from the Gujarat government for the planned 60,000 units capacity. The other half of the land, we are still deciding whether to put another 60,000 units capacity of two-wheeler or we are going to put four-wheeler tyre production." Maxxis has set a target of garnering 15 per cent of two-wheeler tyre market in India by 2023. Lu said the company expects the Indian market to grow to around 10 crore units of two-wheeler tyres per year and if the company achieves its target of 15 per cent market share "we will more or less utilise the entire capacity of our Gujarat plant and anything beyond will require expansion of production in India". On four-wheeler tyre segment, he said the group's 2025 target and expectations from India are pinned on both two and four-wheeler tyres segment "but volume-wise, definitely two-wheeler tyres in India has more advantage than four-wheeler tyre business". When asked about growth prospects for 2020, Lu said Maxxis expects to continue with its growth momentum from last year, despite the automobile industry suffering a downturn as it was able to enhance its original equipment manufacturer (OEM) business share. "I will say we are still in a position to aim at high growth given that we're going to have even higher share in the existing partnership and we are looking at multiple projects simultaneously with OE (original equipment) partners," he said. The Japanese <keyword id="76265" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="yen">yen</keyword>'s slide to a three-year low on news the <keyword id="79248" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Bank-of-Japan">Bank of Japan</keyword> governor will resign early spurred a 3.8 percent jump in the <keyword id="6369535" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Nikkei">Nikkei</keyword> 225 stock index. It gained 416.83 points to 11,463.75 as export shares soared on expectations of stronger sales thanks to the yen's slide against other major currencies. Toyota Motor Corp. jumped 6 percent, Honda Motor Corp. added 3.3 percent and Sony climbed 3.8 percent.
The Japanese yen was trading at 93.68 yen per U.S. dollar, its lowest level in almost three years after BOJ Gov. Masaaki Shirakawa said he will step down three weeks early, for logistical reasons. Some investors took it as sign that whoever replaces Shirakawa will be likely to comply with pressure from the government to ease monetary policy to help stimulate economic growth.
Shirakawa said he is stepping down in tandem with his top deputies on Mar. 19 instead of when his own five-year term ends on April 8 and that his decision was not motivated by political pressure. But the central bank has been perceived as resisting pressure for more drastic monetary easing, despite its agreement last month to set a 2 percent inflation benchmark as demanded by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
In early European trading, Britain's FTSE 100 edged down 0.6 percent to 6,278.84. The CAC-40 in France fell 0.2 percent to 3,686.10 and Germany's DAX lost 0.3 percent to 7,641.81.
Arcelor-Mittal SA, the world's largest steelmaker, posted a larger loss for the fourth quarter due to write-downs and charges related to its European business while Vinci SA, Europe's biggest builder, also reported a drop in 2012 profitability.
Wall Street was set for modest gains with Dow Jones industrial futures up 0.2 percent at 13,941. S&amp;P 500 futures added 0.2 percent to 1,508.20.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.5 percent to 23,256.93, Australia's S&amp;P/ASX 200 gained 0.8 to 4,921. In mainland China, the Shenzhen Composite Index added 0.5 to 951.52 while the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index added 0.1 to 2,434.48.
South Korea's Kospi erased early gains to fall for the fifth straight day, edging down 0.1 percent to 1,936.19. Shares in Malaysia and New Zealand fell, while benchmarks in Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia rose.
"The recovery in overseas markets provided an excuse for the market to bounce back" after falls earlier in the week, said Kwong Man Bun, chief operating officer at KGI Securities in Hong Kong.
Strong gains in regional markets are partly being driven by higher liquidity thanks to the yen's weakness, which has brought on a flurry of carry trades in which traders borrow in a weaker currency with low interest rates, such as the yen, and use the funds to buy higher-risk shares in other markets, such as Hong Kong.
Wall Street and European stock markets pushed higher Tuesday after new indicators suggested the combined economy of the 17 euro countries is past the worst of its recession and the U.S. recovery remains on track.
A surge in U.S. home and stronger earnings helped push U.S. shares higher. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 99.22 points to 13,979.30, recovering much of what it lost Monday in the worst sell-off so far this year. The index traded above 14,000 during the day before falling back in the last hour.

In energy markets, benchmark crude for March delivery was up 3 cents to $96.33 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
