New Delhi, <keyword id="4549708" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="honasa-consumer" source="Orion">Honasa Consumer</keyword> Ltd, which owns FMCG brands such as Mamaearth and The Derma Co, on Wednesday reported an almost two-fold increase in its consolidated profit after tax to Rs 29.43 crore for the second quarter ended September. It had a profit after tax of Rs 15.19 crore in the year-ago period, according to a regulatory filing from the company, which got listed on November 7. Honasa Consumer's revenue from operations was up 20.85 per cent to Rs 496.10 crore in the second quarter of this fiscal. It was at Rs 410.49 crore in the same period a year ago. Its total expenses stood at Rs 463.98 crore in the September quarter, up 18.25 per cent compared to the year-ago period. In the latest September quarter, the company's total income jumped 21.09 per cent to Rs 503.18 crore. "Honasa has been able to deliver market-beating growths and constantly improve the profitability portfolio of the company. Our business has grown by 33 per cent Y-o-Y in H1 FY24 which is 3.8 times the median growth of FMCG companies in India," its Chairman and CEO Varun Alagh said. Shares of the company fell 4.05 per cent to close at Rs 352.10 on the BSE.

Honasa’s initial public offer was subscribed 7.6 times the shares on offer – with good interest from institutional investors. But its retail book was just about fully subscribed with 1.3 times over the shares on offer. The company raised as much as ₹765 crore from the anchor investors ahead of its IPO. Some of its investors include Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), Goldman Sachs Singapore and more. The listing of Honasa will be seen as an acid test for D2C companies in the public markets. Honasa is one of the first-movers in the sector, and grew at a breakneck speed of 80% compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) for the last two years. In the crowded online BPC market, it managed to gain a market share of 5.4%, as per Redseer. In addition to its flagship Mamaearth brand, it expanded its portfolio by incubating three brands and acquiring two more. It now has The Derma Co, Aqualogica, Ayuga, Dr Sheth’s and BBlunt (salons and products) – all catering to the new-age Indians who love tailor-made products. Its ad expenses stood at 34.99% of its revenue from operations as of June end. Experts say that it’s normal for a D2C company like itself. A large chunk of the net proceeds raised from the fresh issue will go towards ad expenses. It intends to spend more towards physical presence like more EBOs and BBlunt salons. “As the brand scales, the company is looking to connect consumers offline. A large part of the revenue decline is concentrated in its D2C website and app, where CAC (customer acquisition cost) is considerably high. As consumers shift to the offline mode, CAC needs will also reduce,” said a report by Emkay. What’s in it for the investors? The IPO is a combination of fresh issue and offer-for-sale (OFS). But the size of the fresh issue is much smaller than the OFS by promoters and other selling shareholders who will take a lion’s share of the intended fundraise of ₹1,701 crore. “New investors should be cautious as the IPO includes fresh share issuance of ₹365 crore and a low promoter stake of 37.41%. Conservative investors may wait and watch, while risk-takers can consider long-term investment for potential growth. However, the IPO appears to be overvalued in the current market conditions, and historical listings with high valuations have often faced post-listing challenges,” opines Prashanth Tapse, senior VP of research at Mehta Equities.

How do lock-ins work? While public shareholders of a company can sell their stock anytime in the market, after they are listed, the rules are different for other classes of investors. As per regulations, anchor investors — who invest ahead of opening an issue to the public — must wait for 30 days or one month from the allotment date to sell half of their shares in the public market. The rest can be sold after 90 days or three months. Promoters and other shareholders have different lock-in expiry rules. Promoters can sell their shares to the tune of 20% of the post-issue paid-up in the open market after 18 months. For other non-promoters, the lock-in ends in six months. In 2023, midcaps across sectors saw their order books swell, profitability rise due to benign commodity prices and more such. In the coming year, a lot of troubles could be exposed, says Kotak Securities. “The largecap and high-quality midcaps are in a bull market, with the weak operating performance in the short term and likely deterioration in fundamentals in the medium term being largely ignored by the market. Several low-quality midcaps and smallcaps in general are in a bubble market, with the market attaching unrealistic narratives to many stocks,” said Kotak Securities. Ripe for correction? The time seems ripe for a correction, especially in the short-term. “Investors should remember that after such a strong rally in midcaps, there is a high probability that these stocks might witness heightened volatility in the short term,” Nishit Master, portfolio manager at Axis Securities Portfolio Management Services told Business Insider India. Experts believe only those midcaps that show good earnings performance will be able to hold on to their high valuations. “In the short term, we might witness profit booking in the small and midcap space by traders as they move from stocks and sectors that have done exceedingly well to sectors and stocks where they feel they can hunt for bargains. However, long-term investors will stick to well-performing stocks where the earnings growth trajectory still remains strong,” says Master. Some midcaps however hold a 15-20% upside as some sectors have room for growth, say experts. “Most stocks are ahead of their target price due to change in the business cycle as well as the environment. One clue of this comes from the heavy inflows into these categories of mutual funds. If the primary markets keep up with their fervour, there will be more options for investors. In the coming year, investors might become selective of their midcap bets, but won’t go slow. “Midcaps’ overall capital efficiency has improved as seen from their return on equity (RoEs) in 2023. We believe that small and midcaps have the potential to outperform large caps in the medium to long run. Bulls & Bubbles: Midcaps will move but not as fast in 2024

It became one of the most successful PSU market debuts, second only to IRCTC’s stellar debut of over 100% listing gains. IREDA’s stock closed at ₹59 after gaining through the day – beating grey market expectations of 31% listing gains — by a large margin. The market cap of the company stood at ₹16,123 crore, according to Bombay Stock Exchange. Its ₹2,150 crore initial public offer (IPO) was subscribed 38.8 times the shares on offer, with substantial interest from institutional investors. The qualified institutional buyer (QIB) portion was subscribed 104 times. Due to the high number of applications, investors who missed the IPO allotment scrambled for the stock on listing day. “We believe post listing there would be decent demand for the shares as it had received overwhelming response from all kinds of investors especially from long term funds. while those who failed to get allotments can accumulate on every dip for holding it for healthy long term returns as markets always reward a player who has high visibility and growth potential,” said Prashanth Tapse, senior VP of research at Mehta Equities. It has over 36 years of experience in promoting, developing and extending financial assistance for new and renewable energy projects. It also serves energy efficiency and conservation projects. Tapse says that IREDA has the potential to upgrade to a Navratna company. “The NBFC's financial autonomy is expected to boost its competitive edge,” he adds. The public financing institution (PFI) intends to use the net proceeds from the fresh issue towards augmenting its capital base to meet future capital requirements and onward lending. It provides financial products and related services, from project conceptualisation to post-commissioning, for and other value chain activities like equipment manufacturing and transmission. As of September 30, 2023, it had a diversified portfolio of term loan outstanding amounting to ₹47,514 crore. Its revenue from operations grew 24% in FY23, as compared to the year before. Its net profit grew 36% during the same period. Its capital to risk-weighted asset ratio (CRAR) stood at 18.8% for FY23. Its gross non-performing assets (NPA) stood at 3.21% by the end of FY23. It’s a book-built issue of ₹834 crore, and is completely an offer-for-sale with no net proceeds going back to the company. It has raised ₹250 crore from anchor investors like Goldman Sachs Fund, Morgan Stanley Asia (Singapore), Copthall Mauritius Investment, BNP Paribas Arbitrage, Societe Generale and SBI Life Insurance. The company’s promoters are Kuldip Singh Rathee and Vijay Rathee, and started operations in 1989. Its listed peers in the market are Uno Minda, Bharat Forge, Endurance Technologies and Suprajit Engineering. ASK Automotive is the largest manufacturer of brake-shoe and advanced braking systems for two-wheelers in India. It has a market share of approximately 50% in FY23 in terms of production volume for original equipment manufacturers and the branded independent aftermarket, on a combined basis. The company has in-house design and engineering capabilities that allows them to deliver complex precision components. Also, the business they’re in is a high-entry barrier business. “ASK Automotive is a well-established manufacturer of safety systems and critical engineering solutions with an extensive suite of systems and solutions for electric vehicle as well as internal combustion engine sectors and long-standing customer relationships with both Indian and global OEM players,” says a report by Anand Rathi, which gave it a ‘subscribe-long term’ rating as it believes the issue is fairly priced. ASK Automotive closes debut day with 10% listing gains

This is lower than what the grey market had predicted, which was expecting 33% listing gains. The stock closed at ₹69.05 per share, slightly below its listing price, ending at a premium of 15.08% over the IPO price. The stock listed at ₹71.9 per share as compared to its issue price of ₹60. Its market cap is ₹3,701 crore according to Bombay Stock Exchange. Prashanth Tapse, senior VP of research at Mehta Equities had pegged the listing gains anywhere between 20-30%. “We believe the premium listing is justified on the back of investor friendly pricing and reasonably IPO valuations when compared to peers. Hence we recommend allotted investors to look for booking profits and post listing we expect limited upside,” he added. The ₹463 crore issue was subscribed 73 times the shares on offer with outsized interest from qualified institutional buyers (QIBs). This quota was subscribed a whopping 173 times. It also received good interest from non-institutional and retail investors. It has raised ₹135.15 crore from anchor investors, like BNP Paribas Arbitrage, Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance, Edelweiss Tokio Life Insurance, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance and more. The listing performance of recent D-street debuts have been mixed. The last issue to list Mamaearth parent Honasa Consumer gave muted 4% listing gains but Cello World gave a good 22% gains. Its deposits grew from ₹89,994.26 million to ₹146,656.25 million between FY21-23 registering a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27.66%. Its CASA ratio dropped from 22.84% in FY22 to 21.39% in FY23. Its gross NPA (non performing assets) and net NPA stood at 2.49% and 1.13% respectively in Q1FY24. Despite having a nationwide presence, the bank's primary business operations are concentrated in South India, specifically in the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. “As of now, its operations are limited to South India with a lower presence in North India. Hike in RBI’s interest rate will result in compression of NIMs (net interest margins) from current levels. Increase in stress on assets specially on small ticket items will affect the future cash flows which will lead to increase in NPA,” said a report by Religare elucidating its key risks.

The company is a market leader in universal, citizen centric and population scale e-governance solutions. It has 45% market share in PAN allocation. Since inception in 2023, it has managed 19 projects spread across seven ministries and autonomous bodies. It’s been the chief architect and implementer for critical and large-scale technology infrastructure projects in the country. It collaborates with the government and has extensive experience in creating digital public infrastructure and developing innovative citizen-centric e-governance solutions. “At the upper price band, the company is valued at a P/E ratio of 29.9 of its FY23 earnings with a market cap of ₹32,034 million post issue of equity shares. We believe that the issue is fairly priced and recommend ‘Subscribe –Long Term’ rating to the IPO,” said a report by Anand Rathi. Its main risks include fluctuations in raw material prices like plastic granules and plastic polymer prices etc and their supply chain issues. It also doesn’t own the trademark for its key brands, like ‘Cello’, ‘Unomax’, ‘Kleeno’ and ‘Puro’. Also, one of its competitors also uses the ‘Cello’ brand name for its writing instruments business. The company says that any adverse impact on its brand name due to the actions of competitors may adversely impact its reputation and business. Its margins, profitability depend on maintaining its existing capacity utilisation rate. “Consumer awareness towards safety and quality, shorter replacement cycles, a shift towards the aesthetics of products, loyalty to established brands, increasing disposable income, and nuclearization of families are contributing to the growth of the branded consumerware market in India,” says a report by Geojit, which gives it a 'Subscribe' rating for the issue on a long-term basis. A report by Choice Broking also believes that the company has a dominant position in the market. “There are growth tailwinds for the sector and CWL is well placed to benefit from the same. Even if they’re not a part of the offer-for-sale in an issue, being part of a public listed company frees-up their shares for block deals. “IPOs are a credible exit channel for VC/PE funds. Revival of the IPO market is certainly good news for the investors. Equally good news is the performance of some of the marquee tech stocks that have been listed on the stock market in the last few years,” Fazal Ahad, managing director at Merisis Advisors told Business Insider India. Thanks to the bull run of stock markets seen since August, there have been a lot of block deals by large PE/VC investors. In as many as 29 large block deals since September, Softbank, <keyword id="526777" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tiger-global" source="Orion">Tiger Global</keyword>, Bain and TPG sold stakes in new-age internet companies like PB Fintech, Delhivery, Zomato and Paytm, as per data by Kotak Institutional Equities. According to IVCA-EY monthly PE/VC roundup, August 2023 saw exits to the tune of $4.3 billion across 37 deals in August 2023. And, open market exits accounting for 57% of all exits by value. The best is yet to come The buzz in the primary and secondary markets coupled with the exits they provide is a sign of maturity in the VC ecosystem, say experts. And there are more to come, as per Redseer. As many as 30 unicorns that are valued over $1 billion will become IPO-ready next year. For the smaller startups, there is the SME listing route who want to hit the markets at an earlier stage of their growth. “IPOs need to be valued right as public markets still look for profitable ventures, early profitability will enable startups to get exit through SME listings which has scaled up substantially in the last two years. This will take some time to evolve for startups,” said Manoj Agarwal, co-founder &amp; managing partner, SeaFund. The discipline of being a part of the listed universe also helps companies shrug off cash burn and move towards profitability. “Listed space gives rigour especially financial rigour to companies. This is something which the VCs like and now slowly but surely, there is acceptance in the IPO story of the startups,” says Bhaskar Majumdar, Managing Partner, Unicorn India Ventures. As more and more such companies are entering a state of maturity, FY25 will be a better year for serious large-scale exit gains, opines Agarwal. Private equity and VC players make a killing as IPO rush yields them ₹10,000 crore

Not even in the hay days, when movies were a key source of entertainment. Now, at a time when theaters are struggling with occupancies and footfalls, India’s largest multiplex chain has brought out its PVR INOX Passport. For ₹699, consumers can watch 10 movies in a month on weekdays but without access to its IMAX, Gold, LUXE and Director's Cut services. Even as the movie industry saw post-pandemic successes with RRR, Pathan, <keyword id="6498265" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pushpa" source="Orion">Pushpa</keyword> and Rocky and Rani Ki Prem Kahani, occupancies haven’t yet hit pre-Covid levels. Now, PVR is hopeful that with this limited period offer, they can bring back some of those who have lost the habit of watching movies on the screen. “The three significant target groups we are focusing on are students, housewives, and senior citizens, where we believe lies a great opportunity. We expect this innovative offering will not only revitalize weekday cinema attendance but also introduce a new dimension to how our patrons interact with and enjoy the world of cinema,” said Gautam Dutta, co-CEO of PVR INOX. The big screens are being hurt by OTT’s weekly and monthly launches of shows and direct-to-OTT movies. Moreover, GenZs with mobiles and easy data access, find little allure of watching movies in a size larger than life. Unlimited OTTs plus limited theatrical releases PVR is trying to build a habit of making movie watching a social outing that it has been for generations before. OTTs have also upped their ante during the pandemic and has brought back movie loving public into its fold. The time lag between a theatrical release and their satellite/OTT debuts have come down drastically. In some cases, it’s a matter of a few weeks. Added to that, a few superstar-starring, much awaited movies are going directly to OTTs. Case in point – Knives Out ‘Glass Onion’ starring Daniel Craig had a ‘limited’ release before it hit Netflix. Even Martin Scorsese planned the same for his ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ but canceled it. There are more examples closer home too. One of Bollywood’s most-awaited debuts with three star kids directed by Zoya Akhtar is The Archies. The off-beat movie starring Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan, Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda, and late actress Sridevi’s daughter Khushi Kapoor, is coming to Netflix. More reason for the young to subscribe to Netflix and chill, instead of making a movie date. “This move may eventually bring the youth back to the cinemas, which will be a big positive structural trigger. The only ponderable is if lower pricing or good content would be the decider to usher in this change,” says Karan Taurani, research analyst at Elara Capital in a note on the offer. Without the price-barrier If there ever was a good way to bring back young people to try something, price reduction is the way to go. Many apps and new-age businesses are built on this theory. PVR’s Passport plan however does zero or no damage to their economics. As per Elara’s calculations, pan-India, annual average occupancy for exhibitors for weekdays (Monday-Thursday) is around 17%. Discounted ticket prices may prop occupancy towards 20-25% it believes. “Increased occupancy may not come at any incremental costs and may drive better F&amp;B and ad revenue which is high-margin in nature,” Taurani adds. The Passport offer which is not available in the South of India, is also limited in nature. Only 20,000 of these passes are available. The idea behind it is not merely to boost weekday occupancy, claims PVR. “With the Passport, we have sought to break the barriers of cost and allow our newer audiences to immerse themselves in a wide array of movies across diverse genres. We expect this innovative offering will not only revitalize weekday cinema attendance but also introduce a new dimension to how our patrons interact with and enjoy the world of cinema,” said Dutta. Small vs Big Apart from limited releases, a lot of quaint small movies, whose surprise performance vitalized box offices are also missing. These are the movies that are being swept off by OTTs and as per media reports, producers and distributors are also getting <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/media/entertainment/studios-fail-to-talk-up-movies-theatres-pay-the-price/articleshow/104897753.cms">tight-fisted with marketing spends</a>. Taurani says that theaters’ dependence on large-budget films increased to around 85% in Hindi <keyword id="25892" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="box-office" source="Orion">Box Office</keyword> (BO) which is a structural risk. If there is an option to watch ‘many movies’ with a prepaid option, the small movies which are hitherto undiscovered can get a boost. “It's about making every visit to the cinema an opportunity to discover something new, to be entertained, and to be captivated by the magic of storytelling on the big screen, even with the smaller films,” said Dutta. Be it big or small, a movie on a big screen is always an experience. Whether the younger generation who is reportedly more keen on experiences than anything will subscribe to it, is yet to be seen. PVR woos Netflix n Chill crowd back to big screens with its Passport

The announcement comes as Mamaearth turned <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/india-is-home-to-81-unicorns-now-as-mamaearth-globalbees-make-it-to-the-list/articleshow/88558418.cms">a unicorn last week</a>, after its parent company Honasa Consumer Private Limited raised $52 million at a valuation of $1.2 billion. A unicorn, in startup parlance, is a company valued at or over a billion dollars. Mamaearth’s Varun told BI that its revenue grew nearly four fold to ₹480 crore in the last financial year (FY20). Kanwaljit Singh of Fireside Ventures, who is one of the investors at Mamaearth, had previously <a href="https://inc42.com/buzz/what-the-financials-mamaearth-revenue-surges-6x-in-fy20-with-booming-sales/">noted</a> that Mamaearth crossed ₹300 crore in revenue two-three months before closing FY2021. Now, Varun expects to close March 2022 with double the revenue — which would be around ₹960 crore — by focusing on inorganic growth, launching more brands and doubling down on its distributions. The company will soon start testing out its products in the Middle East (Gulf Cooperation Council) and South Asia, Mamaearth’s CEO Varun told Business Insider. The latest refunding round of Honsa Consumer Private Limited — the parent company of Mamaearth, The Derma Co and other personal care house of brands — was led by Sequoia. Sofina Ventures and Evolvence had also participated in the round, which gave exits to several undisclosed early backers as well as employees of Mamaearth. “We will be deploying the funds towards brand launches, expanding distribution, inorganic growth and expanding the current portfolio across borders.
