ONGC is hiring to fill over 900 posts with a maximum salary of ₹98,000 per month

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=CAG">CAG</a>) has lashed out to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ONGC">ONGC</a> for their hiring and use of drilling rigs that resulted in a whopping loss of Rs. 7,995 Crores. 
 
In a report presented in the Parliament today, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=CAG">CAG</a> said the state-owned firm didn’t do enough homework while preparing the annual rig requirement plan (RRP), delayed many rig acquisitions and hiring, deployed manpower unevenly and had inefficient repair and refurbishment policy. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ONGC">ONGC</a>'s non-productive time was between 19 and 23% over 2010-14. "The bulk of idling time costing Rs 6,418 crore was due to factors which could have been controlled by the company," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=CAG">CAG </a>said. 
 
The company also didn’t adhere to safety procedures and continued to do drilling/testing operations even after one anchor of its rig Sagar Vijay had snapped. 
 "The insurer did not honour the claim of <keyword id="6354737" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="ONGC">ONGC</keyword> on the ground that the latter had not followed recognized safe operating practice," the report said. 
 
The oil company didn’t follow repair schedule either. Major lay-up repairs that were held up affected the machines’ efficiency.

CAG thrashes ONGC over Rs 8k Crores loss

Amid gloomy oil price scenario, India is being seen as a bright spot in global energy industry, thanks to state-run <keyword id="6354737" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ONGC">ONGC</keyword>’s efforts. 
 
Jon Fredrick Muller, senior project manager at the Oslo-based Rystad Energy AS, said that what was driving the Indian energy demand growth was strong economic performances and the increasing middle class spending. 
 
He also lauded Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for taking a lead in calling tenders for chartering of offshore drilling rigs and support vessels of upstream projects. 
 
"This makes India a bright spot for the industry,” he said. 
 
"ONGC has not cut down Exploration &amp; Production spending like most other national oil companies have done so. They have kept their demand up, they have needs for their deep-water drilling equipment -- floaters and jack-ups for shallow water, as well as Offshore Support Vessels," said Geir Sjurseth, managing director, global head for offshore finance at DVB Bank SE. 
 
"They (ONGC) are issuing tenders which have attracted both national and international companies that would like to supply their equipment, as longer term employment opportunities in other markets are difficult," he said. 
 
Experts noted that ONGC was enjoying attractive rates. 
 
"ONGC have charter/hired offshore rigs and vessels at 30-40 per cent lower rates than previous contracts," said Manav Kumar, president and director of Singapore-based Dynamic Drilling Holdco Pte Ltd. 
 
The Indian government is emphasising the ONGC-led industry to cut import dependence by 10 per cent in next seven years to 68 per cent, the industry sources said. 
 
"Overall, India represents a huge opportunity for upstream sector because of the large exploration activities and field redevelopment plans of the Indian companies," said one delegate.

Experts laud ONGC’s efforts in energy industry, see India as a bright spot

New Delhi, Jan 1 () State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has begun an exercise to shed excess cost at the Mumbai offshore oil and gas fields of Panna-Mukta whose control it regained after two and half decades and has already saved Rs 1 crore in the shipping cost. 
 ONGC has changed the contract for bringing oil produced from the fields lying in the Arabian Sea to land, resulting in saving of about USD 5,000 per day, sources with direct knowledge of the development said.
It is expecting an upside in production too after a re-appraisal.
Sources said the previous operators, Shell India and Reliance, had engaged a floating storage and transportation vessel from Mercator Ltd for shipping oil.
 Soon after taking over the field last month, ONGC changed the shipper to state-owned Shipping Corporation Ltd, resulting in saving of about USD 5,000 per day, they said adding the saving totals to Rs 1 crore-plus.
Sources said the company will lay a small undersea pipeline soon to completely do away with the requirement of hiring ships for transporting oil to land.
 ONGC had originally discovered the Panna-Mukta and Tapti (PMT) oil and gas fields in the Arabian Sea off the Mumbai coast in the early 1990s. These were however taken away from the company and in 1994 awarded to a consortium of US energy giant Enron and Reliance Industries Ltd. ONGC as a government nominee was given 40 per cent back-in rights.
 Enron during its bankruptcy was taken over by BG Group of UK in 2003. BG Group's interest was subsequently taken over by Shell in 2016.
 The 25-year production sharing contracts for the PMT fields expire this week and Reliance and Shell had decided not to seek an extension for Panna-Mukta fields, resulting in them being reverted to ONGC on December 21, 2019.
 Reliance and Shell-owned BG Exploration and Production India Ltd (BGEPIL) held 30 per cent stake each in PMT.
 The Tapti fields had ceased production earlier in 2016 and the Tapti process platform facilities were handed over to ONGC (Government of India nominee) in 2016.
 Sources said ONGC sees an upside in oil and gas production from the Panna-Mukta field which it will firm up after doing a reappraisal of the reserves.
 The fields produce about 10,000 barrels of oil per day and 4 million standard cubic meters per day of natural gas.
 The production sharing contracts (PSC) for the Panna-Mukta and Tapti fields, which were executed by the PMT JV with the Government of India in 1994, expired on December 21, 2019.
 Decommissioning and site restoration of residual Tapti facilities, including five unmanned platforms and in-field pipelines, are being carried out by the PMT JV under India's first offshore decommissioning and site restoration project.
 The Panna-Mukta fields, off the Mumbai coast, have produced 211 million barrels of oil and 1.25 trillion cubic feet of natural gas since December 1994. In 2019, the average monthly production from the fields was around 10,000 barrels per day of crude oil and 140 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day. ANZ ANU

Amazon is allowing its corporate employees to avail the work from home option, if their roles permit, till June 2021. Amazon had earlier said that it expected <keyword id="10145034" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="corporate-workers">corporate workers</keyword> to return to office by January next year. An Amazon spokesperson told the media that the extended work from home guidance is applicable for workers worldwide. The move comes amid rising Covid-19 cases worldwide. Amazon earlier this month said that 19,816 of its front-line employees in the US tested positive or been presumed positive for the disease. However, despite facing allegations that its measures put in place to protect workers from Covid-19 were inadequate, Amazon was ranked second by <keyword id="6373044" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="forbes">Forbes</keyword> on its newly released World's Best Employers 2020 list. Samsung Electronics topped the list. To compile this year's list, Forbes surveyed 160,000 employees from 750 companies in 58 countries around the world and asked them to rate their willingness to recommend their employers to friends and family. Participants also had to rate their satisfaction with their employers' Covid-19 response, economic footprint, talent development, gender equality, social responsibility, and other factors. Foreign institutional investors turned net sellers in the capital market as they offloaded shares worth Rs 893.25 crore on Monday, as per exchange data. Domestic equities look to be good at the moment despite mixed cues from global markets, said Binod Modi Head-Strategy at Reliance Securities. Concerns pertaining to increase in bond yields and higher commodity prices dented investors' sentiments in the last couple of days. However, the underlying strength of the economy and market remains intact in our view and hence any further correction in the market should be used to buy, he said. He further added that Indian companies are likely to see sustained earnings recovery in subsequent fiscals and therefore premium valuations are likely to sustain. US equities extended losses in overnight trade on Monday as worries over continued rise in bond yields dampened investors' sentiments. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai and Hong Kong were trading on a positive note in mid-session deals, while Seoul was in the red. Meanwhile, the global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 1.38 per cent higher at USD 65.25 per barrel.
