New Delhi [<keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword>], February 12 (ANI): India's demand for petroleum products is likely to increase by a mid-single-digit percentage in the financial year ending March 2024, following a 10 per cent post-pandemic recovery in 2022-23, according to <keyword id="19949381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fitch-ratings" source="keywords">Fitch Ratings</keyword>. Both petrol and diesel sales recorded robust 4-6 per cent increases in the first nine months of 2023-24, fuelled by heightened economic activities in the agriculture and power sectors, coupled with a surge in holiday travel and auto sales. Fitch said it expects Indian refiners' gross refining margins (GRM) to moderate during 2024-25 from the strong levels expected in 2023-24, but remain above mid-cycle levels. By 2025-26, it foresees a shift closer to mid-cycle levels, but remaining resilient, bolstered by the escalating demand for end-products. "The gradual normalisation of the crude supply mix away from Russian imports is likely to narrow GRMs, although we expect margins to stay strong, supported by the rising demand for end-products," the rating agency said. In the upstream segment, domestic oil and gas production has modestly increased, driven by a 5 per cent rise in gas production in the first nine months of 2023-24. "We expect production to continue to rise moderately as technological investments in enhanced oil recovery techniques will offset natural declines," the rating agency said. Fitch forecasts the oil and gas sector's high capex intensity to continue in the medium term, particularly with upstream companies investing in production enhancement. In the downstream segment, <keyword id="20039004" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hindustan-petroleum-corporation-limited" source="keywords">Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited</keyword> should maintain higher capex due to planned investments by its subsidiary, HPCL <keyword id="20521636" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajasthan-refinery-limited" source="keywords">Rajasthan Refinery Limited</keyword>. The capex of other oil marketing companies, including HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited, should be minimal as they have completed their expansion projects, it said. India, the world's third-biggest oil importer and consumer, is dependent on crude oil from various sources in the global market to meet its domestic demand. (ANI)

India's petroleum products demand to increase mid-single-digit percentage in 2023-24: Fitch

The export of <keyword id="6367091" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="petrol" source="Orion">petrol</keyword> by Indian oil marketing companies (<keyword id="88586" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="OMCs" source="Orion">OMCs</keyword>) rose 142% in a year between 2020-21 and 2021-22, while there was a minuscule rise of less than 1% in the export of diesel during the same period. According to official figures, the OMCs exported 668 thousand metric tonnes (TMT) of petrol in 2021-22, which was 142% more than 276 TMT of petrol exported by the country in 2020-21. In 2020-21, the OMCs exported 1,985 TMT of diesel, while in 2021-22, it exported 1,994 TMT of diesel, a growth of less than 1% over the previous year. HEID will operate the battery swap services that will enable auto rickshaw drivers to stop at the nearest battery stations being set up and swap discharged batteries with fully charged ones. This will significantly reduce drivers’ initial cost of purchasing an electric vehicle (EV) as well as allay concerns about running out of batteries, the companies said in a statement. “Swappable batteries address the key EV adoption issues such as - high upfront costs, range anxiety and long charging time,” said Sandeep Maheshwari, executive director-retail at HPCL. Honda’s technology and HPCL’s 20,000+ retail outlets in the country will ensure scalability, he added. HEID intends to create the largest battery swap network with more than 70 stations in Bengaluru in the next 12 months. Furthermore, the service will be expanded to other major cities in a phased manner, the statement said. “HEID would focus on three actions – expanding its battery swap network in Bengaluru, ensuring reliable service with a highly integrated system monitoring every unique battery and exchanger, and supporting vehicle manufacturers who are developing EV that utilizes Honda Mobile Power Pack,” said <keyword id="14677125" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kiyoshi-ito" source="Orion">Kiyoshi Ito</keyword>, president and CMD at HEID. Honda Power starts electric battery swap services at HPCL petrol pumps

New Delhi, Mar 28 (PTI) Petrol price on Monday was hiked by 30 paise a litre and diesel by 35 paise, taking the total increase in rates in the last one week to Rs 4-4.10 per litre. Petrol in Delhi will now cost Rs 99.41 per litre as against Rs 99.11 previously while diesel rates have gone up from Rs 90.42 per litre to Rs 90.77, according to a price notification of state fuel retailers. Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending upon the incidence of local taxation. This is the sixth increase in prices since the ending of a four-and-half-month long hiatus in rate revision on March 22. In the first four four occasions, prices were increased by 80 paise a litre - the steepest single-day rise since the daily price revision was introduced in June 2017. On Sunday, petrol price went up by 50 paise a litre and diesel by 55 paise. In all, petrol prices have gone up by Rs 4 per litre and diesel by Rs 4.10. Prices had been on a freeze since November 4 ahead of the assembly elections in states like <keyword id="6357713" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="uttar-pradesh" source="Orion">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> and Punjab -- a period during which the cost of raw material (crude oil) soared by about USD 30 per barrel. The rate revision was expected soon after counting of votes on March 10 but it was put off by a couple of weeks. Oil companies "will need to raise diesel prices by Rs 13.1-24.9 per litre and Rs 10.6-22.3 a litre on gasoline (petrol) at an underlying crude price of USD 100-120 per barrel," according to Kotak Institutional Equities. CRISIL Research said a Rs 9-12 per litre increase in retail price will be required for a full pass-through of an average USD 100 per barrel crude oil and Rs 15-20 a litre hike if the average crude oil price rises to USD 110-120. India is 85 per cent dependent on imports for meeting its oil needs and so retail rates adjust accordingly to the global movement. (HPCL) gained over four per cent to Rs 187.10 (at 2.30 p.m.) on the BSE on Friday after the company announced that it will consider a proposal to buyback shares at its <keyword id="9589025" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="next-board-meeting">next board meeting</keyword> on November 4. The HPCL board was to meet on November 4 to consider and approve the financial results of the company for the second quarter and half year period ending September 30 earlier. "We now wish to inform you that in the aforesaid board meeting, the board will also consider a proposal to buyback the fully paid equity shares of face value of Rs 10 each of the company", BPCL said in exchange filing on Thursday after market hours. The decision to buyback shares gave momentum to HPCL shares in trade on Friday. In fact, the company's shares have gained 20 per cent in the last three months even though the gains for S&amp;P BSE Sensex during the period has been just five per cent. With the correction in HPCL stock, minority shareholders could hope to get rewarded on the proposed buy back. The performance of the buyback would, however, be determined on the basis of how attractive the pricing is, brokerages have said. HPCL shares soar 4% as board considers share buyback on November 4

<ul><li>Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) shares gained over 7% after the oil refining and marketing giant approved the buyback of 10 crore shares.</li><li>The second-quarter net profit of HPCL more than doubled, led by the surge in refining margins and inventory gains</li><li>The gross sales revenue stood at ₹61,340 crore and was lower than ₹66,165 crore of Q2 of the previous financial year due to lower oil prices.</li></ul>The shares of Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) gained over 7% after the oil refining and the marketing giant said that its board had approved a proposal to buyback up to 10 crore shares, representing 6.56% of paid-up equity capital of the company, at ₹250 per share. The buyback price represents a 33.88% premium over HPCL’s last closing price on Wednesday. In a regulatory filing on the BSE, HPCL said that the buyback remains at ₹2,500 crore, but the number of shares could be higher than maximum buyback shares (10 crore) if equity shares are bought below the maximum buyback price of ₹250. <div type="image" title="HPCL" msid="79055262" hostid="261"></div> Through the buyback, HPCL’s minority shareholders are looking to get rewarded. The company will finalise the details of the buyback in the next two days. Strong profit growth is the secondary driver The second-quarter net profit of HPCL more than doubled on the back of a surge in refining margins and inventory gains — which is again the other major reason behind HPCL stock rise today. Net profit in July-September came at ₹2,477 crore as compared to ₹1,052 crore a year back, HPCL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Kumar Surana told the media on a conference call. “The significant improvement in the profitability in spite of challenges including lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic was a result of strategic planning in refinery and marketing operation, containing the degrowth to less than the industry, efficient inventory management and effective production placement,” he said. Cheaper crude oil contributed to strong growth The gross sales revenue stood at ₹61,340 crore and was lower than ₹66,165 crore of Q2 of the previous financial year due to lower oil prices. The firm earned $5.11 on turning every barrel of crude oil into fuel in the second quarter of 2020-21 fiscal as compared to a gross refining margin of $2.83 a barrel. This included a $2.33 per barrel inventory gain from buying cheaper crude oil earlier and processing in Q2. This translated into ₹1,780 crore of gain. Besides, the firm also had a forex gain of ₹524 crore, he said. The company said during the quarter, 303 new retail outlets were commissioned taking the total retail outlet network to 17,171 as of September 2020. HPCL also commissioned 37 new LPG distributorships during the quarter, taking the total LPG distributorships to 6,153 as of September 2020. Government sources said that IOC is one of the largest hydrogen producers in the country and some of these assets could be allowed to be shared with the private sector that is also looking at getting into hydrogen production realising its vast uses. Sources said IOC had proposed monetising some of its hydrogen producing units in lieu of its product pipelines which the government wants the company to monetise.
