New Delhi, Srichand Parmanand Hinduja, the eldest of the four <keyword id="333308" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hinduja-brothers" source="Orion">Hinduja brothers</keyword> and chairman of the Hinduja Group, passed away in London on Wednesday. The <keyword id="840924" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hinduja-family" source="Orion">Hinduja family</keyword> patriarch and his brothers, Gopichand and Prakash, were accused of receiving nearly Rs 64 crore in illegal commissions to help Swedish gunmaker AB Bofors secure an Indian government contract. A court had however exonerated them. "Gopichand, Prakash, Ashok and the whole Hinduja family with a heavy heart regret to announce the passing away of our family patriarch, and chairman of Hinduja Group, Mr <keyword id="567842" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="s-p-hinduja" source="Orion">S P Hinduja</keyword> today," a spokesperson for the family said. A British national, he died in London after a prolonged illness. He was 87, a family spokesperson said. The Hinduja brothers were exonerated in 2005 due to a lack of evidence. The brothers who have been intensely secretive about the size of their wealth, have been sparring in British courts over control of family assets. "Gopichand, Prakash, Ashok, and the whole Hinduja family with a heavy heart regret to announce the passing away of our family patriarch, and Chairman of the Hinduja Group, Mr. S P Hinduja today," the family spokesperson said in a statement. It described him as a "visionary and mentor to the family bestowing the founding principles and values of our late father, PD Hinduja. "He played a very important role alongside his brothers in building a strong relationship between his host country, the UK, and his home country, India," it said. "A titan amongst his peers, S P Hinduja truly lived and embodied the Hinduja Group's founding principles and values. A deeply spiritual and philanthropic person, he was courageous in action and generous at heart. His loss has left a huge void as the brothers have always been four bodies and one soul, the statement said. "The Hinduja family is in grief and sorrow at his demise. Our prayers to the Almighty to grant his soul eternal place at His Lotus Feet."

The case has been brought by Srichand Parmanand Hinduja, 84, described as the "patriarch" of the family, against brothers G P Hinduja, 80, P P Hinduja, 75, and A P Hinduja, 69, and revolves around the "validity and effect" of a letter dated July 2, 2014. The letter includes statements to the effect that the brothers appoint each other as their executors, and that assets held in any single brother's name belong to all four. A related second letter, dated July 1, 2014, is also linked to the dispute. "In summary, SP seeks a declaration that neither document has legal effect, whether as a will, power of attorney, declaration of trust or other binding document, or alternatively that the documents are revocable and have been revoked," <keyword id="9455060" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="justice-sarah-falk">Justice Sarah Falk</keyword> notes in her judgment on Tuesday. "Additional relief is also sought, in particular an injunction restraining use of the documents and an account of the persons to whom the documents have been submitted and steps taken in reliance on them," she notes. Presiding over a private hearing in the Chancery Division of the High Court, Justice Falk also partially ruled against a privacy order in the case and agreed for S P Hinduja's daughter, Vinoo, to act on her father's behalf as his "litigation friend" and safeguard her father's interests due to his ill health as a result of a form of dementia. "I have concluded that the court should exercise its power under CPR 21.6 to appoint Vinoo as SP's litigation friend...There is no evidence to indicate that Vinoo's statement that her father has asked her to act for him in the proceedings because he is unable to do so is anything other than accurate," the ruling notes. The High Court judgment makes references to the family's other legal proceedings, including over Hinduja Bank in Switzerland and confidential proceedings in Jersey. It also notes that the three defending brothers contend that they have been prevented from seeing their eldest brother, Srichand P Hinduja, for some time. "It will be apparent from the judgment of the High Court in England, that Mr S P Hinduja's health has been deteriorating for a number of years suffering from Lewy Body disease, which is a form of dementia. Vinoo, his younger daughter, acting as his Litigation Friend is bringing these proceedings on his behalf," said a joint statement by G P, P P and A P Hinduja. "It is very unfortunate that these proceedings are taking place as they go against our Founder's and family's values and principles that have stood for many decades, especially, 'everything belongs to everyone and nothing belongs to anyone'. We intend to defend the claim to uphold these dearly held family values," they note. Referring to the issue as "private family matters" now subject to litigation, they add: "We would also stress that this litigation will not have any impact on our global businesses, which will continue to function as they have been." The $13 billion Hinduja brothers, the richest people in the United Kingdom, are fighting with each other over a letter dispute

The <keyword id="120582" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hinduja-group" source="Orion">Hinduja group</keyword> has made an offer to invest an additional ₹300 crore in <keyword id="157626" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-general-insurance" source="Orion">Reliance General Insurance</keyword>. <keyword id="10926" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance" source="Orion">Reliance</keyword> General Insurance, a unit of Reliance Capital, needs a cash infusion to maintain solvency levels. IndusInd International Holdings Ltd (<keyword id="1424679" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="iihl" source="Orion">IIHL</keyword>), which is owned by <keyword id="28125" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hinduja" source="Orion">Hinduja</keyword>, made the highest bid of ₹9,650 crore for Reliance Capital in a second auction on Wednesday. Reliance General Insurance had sought ₹600 crore cash infusion from lenders in December last year to meet the solvency requirements of the IRDA. The lenders earlier rejected the call for fund infusion from their pocket, putting the onus on the general insurance firm to the incoming investor. The bid amount of ₹9,650 crore will go to lenders who had lent ₹24,000 crore to Reliance Capital. The Committee of Creditors (COC) of Reliance Capital will hold a meeting on Friday where the top officials of the Hinduja group will make a presentation on its resolution plan. Reliance Capital owns a 51 per cent stake in Reliance Nippon Life Insurance and 100 per cent in Reliance Nippon General Insurance. The Hinduja group has a presence in the financial services sector through its stake in Indusind Bank and Hinduja Leyland Finance, a non-banking finance company owned by Ashok Leyland. The group has a housing finance business which is core to its strategy to increase its presence in financial services. At a consolidated level, as on December 31, 2022, the AUM (assets under management) of Hinduja Leyland Finance stood at ₹33,353 crore of which the housing finance business accounted for 18 per cent. In addition to ₹9,650 crore, the company has also offered ₹300 crore capital infusion in Reliance General Insurance, and another ₹50 crore for other expenses. The total value of IIHL's bid is ₹10,000 crore. The total Hinduja bid is ₹1,900 crore more compared to its own bid of ₹8,110 crore in the first challenge mechanism. Torrent, which decided to skip the second auction, had offered ₹8,640 crore in the first auction. The new Hinduja bid is higher by ₹1,380 crore. Torrent has moved the Supreme Court on banks' plans to launch a second auction. The matter will be heard in August.  "Africa is the future market for us. A continent of vast size and population, as large as India, is going to be our next frontier. We have significant <keyword id="6370547" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="expansion">expansion</keyword> plans in Africa and will be investing $1 billion over the next five years," he said. 
 
Hinduja gets $300-400 million from Africa and expects to net $2 billion over the next five years. 
 For the mid-term, Hinduja said this '<keyword id="3125530" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Go-Africa">Go Africa</keyword>' strategy will have the group's flagship <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ashok+leyland">Ashok Leyland</a> more than doubling its bus as well as truck exports to the continent from the present 12,000 units per annum to over 25,000 units over the next three years. 
 
Talking about investment, the chairman said it will happen in phased manner and in phased geographical zones. 
 
"For instance, our anchor hub in Kenya will serve East Africa; Nigeria, West Africa; North Africa will be served by our Egyptian hub and we would shortly finalise one for South," Hinduja added.

New Delhi, Jun 25 () A USD 11 billion business empire spread over 38 countries that includes banks, India's second-largest truck maker and lubricant making firms is at the heart of a legal dispute in the Hinduja family that is now playing out in a London court. Four Hinduja brothers -- Srichand, Gopichand, Prakash and Ashok -- had in 2014 signed on a document saying the assets held by one brother belong to all, and that each of them will appoint the others as their executors. But now family patriarch Srichand Hinduja, 84, and his daughter Vinoo want the letter to be declared of "no legal effect" and the family's assets be separated as per his wish of 2016. Hinduja Group has presence in auto, financial services, IT, media, infrastructure, energy and chemicals and healthcare sectors. Differences among the brothers, who shot into prominence in the 1980s when they were accused of taking a commission from Swedish firm Bofors to secure a defence contract of procuring heavy artillery for India, cropped up over control of a bank the group has in Switzerland. The four brothers have been inseparable, putting up joint appearances in the Bofors case investigation and court hearings. However, the charges against them could not be proven in court. Gopichand, Prakash and Ashok tried to use the 2014 letter to take control of Hinduja Bank -- an asset that was in Srichand's sole name, resulting in the legal battle. Vinoo and Srichand Hinduja now want the court to agree that the document has no legal standing and can be revoked. Hinduja Bank has Shanu Hinduja, the other daughter of Srichand, as chairperson, and her son Karam was appointed CEO just last week. It was not immediately known if the 2014 document, which is at the centre of the dispute, is an informal agreement, a will or the basis of a family constitution. Ashok Leyland, India's second largest truck and bus manufacturer, is the flagship firm of the Hinduja Group. Lubricant maker Gulf Oil Lubricants India Ltd is the other listed firm of the group, while Hindujas hold 14.34 per cent in IndusInd Bank Ltd that has a market-cap of over Rs 33,000 crore. According to the company website, Hinduja Group was started by Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja with an office in Iran. "Merchant Banking and Trade were the twin pillars of the Group's business. The Group remained headquartered in Iran till 1979. It then moved to Europe," it said. The group also has a BPO, the Bengaluru-headquartered Hinduja global Solutions (HGS). It had through Gulf Oil Corp Ltd acquired lube and industrial oil maker Houghton International in December 2012. Besides IndusInd Bank, the group in 1994 set up Hinduja Bank (Switzerland) Ltd. Making its foray into the power sector, Hinduja National Power Corp Ltd set up a 1,040 MW coal-based merchant power plant at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The group's NXTDigital offers cable and DTH services. Hinduja Realty Ventures (HRVL) is flagship real estate development arm of the Hinduja group which also runs a hospital in Mumbai. Eldest of the four brothers, Srichand is the chairman of the Hinduja Group, Hinduja Bank of Switzerland and Hinduja Foundations. He has two daughters -- Shanu and Vinoo. Gopichand, 79, is the co-chairman of Hinduja Group and chairman of Hinduja Automotive Ltd, UK, while Prakash, 75, is the chairman of Hinduja Group (Europe). Gopichand has two sons, Sanjay and Dheeraj and a daughter, Rita. Prakash has two sons, Ajay and Ramkrishan, and a daughter Renuka. Youngest of the siblings, Ashok, 69, is the chairman of Hinduja Group of Companies (India). He has two daughters, Ambika and Satya, and one son, Shom. Ashok Leyland, Gulf Oil and IndusInd Bank, the three BSE-listed firms, do not have any individual shareholding of the family, as per data provided by the companies to the exchange. These companies have promoter group entities holding stakes. Hinduja Global Solutions, the BPO service provider, is the only group company that has members of the Hinduja family directly holding shares. The promoter stake of Hinduja flagship firm Ashok Leyland is split into four entities -- Hinduja Bank (Switzerland), Hinduja Automotive, Hinduja Foundries Holding and CitiBank NA -- making up nearly 52 per cent stake. No Hinduja family member holds any direct stake in Ashok Leyland, as per the BSE data. It is not known how much each brother holds in these companies. The brothers have been ranked together in rich lists. Among the third generation of the family Vinoo, Sanjay, Dheeraj, Ajay, Ramkrishan (Remi) and Shom Hinduja are involved with the group, while Shanu, Ritu, Ambika and Satya Hinduja are not engaged in the business. However, the report was based on an order from May 2020. The shares of IndusInd Bank fell as much as 6%, on June 3, 2021, as investors got spooked but recovered a part of those losses soon after. The Cayman Islands, popular as a tax haven for the world’s super rich, had stripped the <keyword id="120582" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hinduja-Group">Hinduja Group</keyword> of its banking licence for the conglomerate’s Geneva-based bank. The Hinduja Bank is one of the three major financial institutions owned by the conglomerate ⁠— the other two being IndusInd Bank and Hinduja Leyland Finance. In an order dated May 27, 2020, the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority, also said that the company “failed to prepare adequate” anti-money laundering policies. The director, Gilbert Pfaeffli, has been held ‘not fit and proper’ for the position. Hinduja Bank was established in 1994 as a Swiss Banking Institution. The group website says it offers, among other services, “innovative solutions in wealth management and private banking, trade finance, corporate advisory services and global investment solutions.” The bank has presence in Dubai, London, Paris, New York, Chennai, Mumbai, Mauritius and Cayman Islands. The Cayman Islands order said that the bank even failed to maintain the minimum net worth of 400,000 Cayman dollars and hasn’t submitted its audited financial statements since 2018. A Cayman dollar is approximately ₹88, at current prices. The more than a century old Hinduja Group led by Chairman Srichand Hinduja ⁠— with a net worth of over $15 billion shared with his brothers, Gopichand, Prakash and Ashok Hinduja ⁠— has international interests in a variety of industries from technology to finance, from media to oil and chemicals, and from real estate to healthcare. After the e-auction was over, Hinduja presented a revised resolution plan with an NPV of Rs 9,000 crore and it has offered 100% cash upfront for the entire Rs 9,000 crore. On the other hand, Torrent has offered only Rs 3,750 crore as upfront cash, which is 54% lower than the Hinduja offer. The balance Rs 4,890 crore will be paid by Torrent in five years. According to the sources, CoC is in favour of Hinduja's offer as the lenders will be able to recover the entire money upfront. The COC may even ask Torrent to match Hinduja's offer of Rs 9, 000 Cr, before engaging again with both bidders to increase the value further. The NCLT deadline of March 31, 2023 for the completion of RCAP resolution is unlikely to be met. The resolution has already been delayed by over a year. Hinduja Group wins Reliance Capital auction with bid value of ₹8,600 crore

<keyword id="120582" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hinduja-Group">Hinduja Group</keyword>’s flagship company and commercial vehicle major <keyword id="6357085" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ashok-Leyland">Ashok Leyland</keyword> has sold a part of its stake in its wholly owned subsidiary Hinduja Tech Limited (HTL). The company now holds 62% stock in the subsidiary company. 
 “To unlock value, HTL has roped in a strategic investor to subscribe to the equity share capital of the company. Co<keyword id="6354646" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSE">nse</keyword>quent to the allotment of equity shares to the strategic investors, the holding of AL now stands at 62%,” the company informed the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in a letter. 
 
Earlier, Ashok Leyland had informed the exchange that following stake sale, the company’s share had reduced to 68%. Also, it has also not disclosed the value at which the stake was sold. 
 
Hinduja Tech Limited was launched in 2009, and since then it has been providing solutions and services to sectors such as automotive, defence, aerospace, industrial and general manufacturing industries.

Hinduja Technology Becomes Subsidiary, Ashok Leyland Sells 38% Stake

Chandigarh, Dec 4 () The Hinduja Group on Wednesday offered to help Punjab in addressing stubble burning problem in the state by lifting all paddy straw from the fields for use in ethanol plants.
 The offer was made during a meeting between Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Hinduja Group Chairman Prakash Hinduja, an official statement said here.
 During the meeting, Hinduja, who was leading a delegation, also showed interest in partnering the state's progress through investments in agriculture, transport, banking, healthcare and automobile sectors.
 Offering transport and technology solutions to mitigate the menace of stubble burning, Hinduja assured Amarinder that the tippers of the group could ensure timely lifting of stubble from fields to support the state government's efforts to eliminate the problem. 
 Hinduja was here to discuss investment opportunities as part of the Progressive Punjab Investors Summit, it said. 
 The chief minister asked his chief principal secretary to look into the group's proposal, the statement said.
 Hinduja said the group could also make investments in banking sector to facilitate loans for unemployed youth, self-help groups and progressive entrepreneurs to establish their ventures.
 Acceding to a proposal from the chief minister, the group also agreed to join hands with state government in its flagship programme 'YAARI Enterprises' to provide easy loans to skilled drivers to run buses, for which permits would be allotted by the state government, the statement added.
 Hinduja said the group was also interested in partnering the state government and Israeli companies to utilise superior technology for enhancing quality of fruit produce to international standards, and exporting the same through joint ventures on profit sharing basis.
 He also proposed public private partnership with Punjab government to set up a manufacturing unit for Ashok Leyland and a driving school for skill development and employment generation in the state, the statement said.
 Assuring his government's full support in setting up the new projects in the state, the chief minister proposed establishment of an auto park in Kapurthala district. CHS

Hinduja Group offers to help Punjab in addressing stubble burning problem

Mumbai, Dec 17 () Hinduja Group co-chairman Gopichand Hinduja on Tuesday said that while the USD 5 trillion target of 2024 is achievable, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government needs to shed the British style of bureaucracy to move faster.
 The industry veteran also said that the company has been willing to invest more than USD 20 billion in India, but it wants the obstacles to be removed and provide ease of doing business.
 "USD 5 trillion economy is an achievable target. The initiatives taken by Modi are great and his vision is excellent but his team has to be fast," Hinduja said at the India economic conclave 2019.
 He noted that the British style of bureaucracy still exists in India, while Britain has already modified their bureaucracy.
 "The first step we have to see is how our bureaucracy will be modified. Some 6-7 years back, we wanted to invest USD 20 billion more in India. When we started getting in, we could see so many obstacles and was not easy to do business. But when Modi announced the initiative of ease of doing business, we thought things will change. But the speed of change should be faster," he said.
 Hinduja further said his company would love to invest more and more in the country because India has the maximum opportunities to invest from all over the world.
 "Our only expectation is that the government should honour what it has committed," he added.
 Speaking at the event, Hinduja Group of Companies chairman Ashok Hinduja noted that system processes need to change.
 "There is a lot of criticism from SME and corporate sector about the fear and psyche, but I think this has to be there. We have to change the seven decade-old system processes and there has to be a stick approach and we need more transparency.
