New Delhi, May 14 () Sportswear giant adidas on Thursday launched the #HOMETEAMHERO Challenge -- a virtual sporting event for athletes to unite and help the COVID-19 response fund for the World Health Organisation (WHO). Running globally from May 29 to June 7, adidas will donate USD 1 to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the WHO for every hour of tracked activity. The company's goal is to reach one million hours. The challenge involves collaboration between multiple activity tracking apps such as Garmin, Zwift, Polar and Suunto. It will also involve an extended selection of guided workouts led by top Indian sportspersons such as cricketer Rohit Sharma, sprinter Hima Das, boxers Nikhat Zareen and Simranjit Kaur. Manish Sapra, senior marketing director at adidas, said: "It is our endeavour to provide tangible ways for consumers to keep active during these testing times. PV Sindhu, Mary Kom, Bajrang Punia and other sportspersons donate to help fight Coronavirus pandemic

New Delhi, Apr 5 () The total amount of contribution raised by the Indian Olympic Association through donations from its state affiliates and National Sports Federations touched Rs 1 crore on Sunday. The IOA said Rs 1,02,56,003 so far has been raised by the NSFs, state Olympic associations and non-members (who have applied for recognition) and others. "IOA is deeply grateful to its NSFs and state associations and other federations and bodies for extending their support and humble contributions towards the cause of our nation's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic," the IOA said in a statement. "In these challenging times, the coming together of the Olympic family to support the nation's need once again reinforces our belief that we shall always come out stronger to serve sports and make the nation proud." The IOA will transfer the donations to PM CARES Fund, the statement added. The coronavirus outbreak, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has claimed over 53,000 lives worldwide while infecting more than a million people. In India, it has led to 83 deaths as per official estimates with over 3,000 people infected by the deadly virus. Several sports personalities, including Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli, batting mastero Sachin Tendulkar, shuttler PV Sindhu and athletes Neeraj Chopra and Hima Das, have also come forward to provide financial contributions to fight against the deadly disease. Apart from that, small start-ups to masters like Amul, brands made the most of our gold-winning moment at the global stage to congratulate Neeraj Chopra, who became independent India’s first Olympian to win a medal in athletics/track and field. According to Facebook, Neeraj Chopra was the second most mentioned athlete on its platform across the globe, whereas on Instagram, he was the most mentioned athlete globally. Over the years, we have seen brands spend the most on players from popular sports like cricket. While athletes get some screentime in ads closer to tournaments like Olympics, very few brands have long-term deals with most of these athletes, unless it is someone like a PV Sindhu, who has been around for a while now and has won many accolades and tournaments for the country. So with the curtains falling on Tokyo Olympics and the next Olympics games still being three years away, will brands bring the newer winners or even players who came really close to bringing medals home? This year, however, many of the athletes have received a lot of attention from brands. It was not just Sindhu or Neeraj Chopra, who aren’t new to the endorsement world; other new medalists Mirabai Chanu, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Lovlina Borgohain and Bajrang Punia have also received an overwhelming response. Slowly and steadily, brands in India are branching out from cricket and looking to associate with budding sports stars to connect with the youth. We spoke to experts to find out who will land the most brand endorsement deals among the six medalists and hockey team. Aviral Jain- Managing Director, Duff &amp; Phelps - A Kroll Business said, “We think it will be a combination of both, though PV Sindhu now carries the tag of “She did it again,” which is unique and privileged. Other non-cricketing sports celebrities such as Hima Das, T. Gopi, Manika Batra, and Deepika Kumari have recently done well in terms of brand endorsements, driven by their splendid individual achievements on the field. Major brands like PepsiCo (PV Sindhu, Neeraj Chopra and Hima Das), Tanishq (Manika Batra and Deepika Kumari), and ASICS (Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, etc.) have successfully associated with various non-cricketing celebrities, and with these non-cricketing wins at the Tokyo Olympics, we can surely expect a greater share of athletes in the advertisement campaigns going ahead.” Anjan Ghosh - Executive Vice President- Hansa Research also echoes these views. He said, “In all probability, more brands will sign up PV Sindhu; her brand standing has gone up substantially, having won medals in multiple Olympics. Brands that want to stand for consistency, fidelity, and grit will find Sindhu a compelling endorser. Also, those who wish to appeal to the young, aspiring women eager to achieve will try to harness Sindhu’s determination and intent and infuse these into their brand personality. The best part is that her success is not a flash in the pan; longevity is something that many brands aspire.” Sahil Chopra, Founder &amp; CEO- iCubesWire said that apart from Sindhu, India’s national sport might also gain more attention this year. “I guess it will be a mix of both known faces and new faces, but yes, the likes of PV Sindhu who have refreshed the memories, will have an edge over the new ones. Only exception to this could be hockey, being the national sport and the way it has captured people’s hearts in the past.” According to media reports, Sindhu currently has 10 deals with Bank of Baroda, Bridgestone Tyres, Visa India, Google, real estate firm Pooja Developers, Chinese sports brand Li Ning, Stayfree, PNB Metlife, Sharechat and Vizag Steel. Experts said that her brand value is likely to double after her incredible performance. But Sindhu is just getting started. The 26-year-old shuttler still has a long career ahead of her, and we expect to witness more iconic wins from her. TRA Research’s CEO, N. Chandramouli said, “PV Sindhu’s winning medals twice in succession is a phenomenal performance at the Olympics. Her value seems to have gone along with her second-time win, and would nearly double. She is young yet, and still has at least one more Olympic Games to look forward to, and so more years of sporting success ahead of her.” On whether Sindhu and Chopra will attract the most brand roles or will newer medalists also get a chance, he added, “All Olympic medal winners from India will gain, some a little more than others. The newer medalists are just starting off, so it's only natural that they will have to prove themselves consistently to see their brand value increase.” Jain also said that Sindhu’s fees and her popularity is likely to double. “Today, she is the undisputed queen of the Indian brand endorsement market (women sportspersons) with more than 10 endorsements and more than 7 million followers on social media. And we expect both the number of brand endorsements and the endorsement fee to increase significantly post her phenomenal success at the Tokyo Olympics, resulting in a significant increase in her brand value.” New-age brands are more likely to onboard the new medalists as their fees is substantially lesser than a seasoned athlete. Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain, who recently won Silver and Bronze medals, respectively, in the Tokyo Olympics seem to have caught the attention of many brands. While Mirabai Chanu is currently associated with brands like Adidas and Mobil, her endorsement portfolio is expected to rise post her success at the Olympics. “Not all brands will look for Lovlina and Mirabai given the lesser fan-following for these sports (as compared to say badminton or hockey) – however, those brands that want to epitomize empowerment for women, a burning desire to break into the mainstream from the fringes, or stand up against many adversities may try to build a narrative around personalities like Lovelina / Mirabai. Categories that are looking for evolution through innovation / competing against the conventional might want to weave a story around such personalities – say, solar panels, unconventional energy, electric bikes etc,” said Ghosh. Is the sports ecosystem really changing? With cricket matches being limited this year, brands are banking on Olympic stars to gain consumer attention and stay relevant. However, cricket still gets the bigger piece of the pie. Sahil Chopra is eager to see a sporting ecosystem where all sports get their due, equal recognition. He said, “I would personally love to see the change and this will be good for the ecosystem as well as the audience. The current ecosystem is so cricket-centric at times it isn’t good for the brand recall when you end up seeing the same faces all the time.” Ghosh said that while there is certainly going to be a change in the fortunes of other Indian athletes/sports stars, especially with the surge in enthusiasm over sports other than cricket, and many will see better brand endorsement contracts coming their way – however, a significant difference might take more time. He said, “Not sure whether the sports marketing ecosystem has changed in a radical way – the support / patronage is still lukewarm; the efforts are still guarded. Other sports stars are enjoying higher popularity and getting better visibility but the gap with cricket is still painfully wide.” Jain told us how a marketer evaluates new endorsement opportunities looking at the extent of media coverage given to the sport, the tournament’s share in the national media broadcast, and finally, the degree of relevance a player has for the audience. So, it is important for new medalists to stay in the news. He said, “While the Indian arena has a wide range of sports being followed by the masses, cricket continues to dominate and maintain a strong hold on the endorsement front. Lately, with the advent of professional leagues (on the lines of the IPL) for other sports like kabaddi, football, badminton, etc., brands and advertisers are favorably looking at these non-cricketing opportunities. However, brand endorsements by non-cricketing sporting stars in India are largely driven by individual visibility; this is in comparison to endorsements for cricketing stars that could be “across the board.” Brands typically feature athletes for their grit, patience and determination, and this helps in targeting millennials and Gen Z who are seeking new aspirational figures. Overall growth in Sports Sponsorship at a healthy 17% where the Sports Sponsorship Industry crossed the INR 9000 Crore mark in 2019. 2019 was the year for Cricket and dominated the sports advertising sector unanimously. IPL &amp; ICC World Cup gave a push in both, On-Ground Sponsorship and Media Spends. On-ground Sponsorship grew by 25%, for the first time, crossing INR 2000 Crore mark. Overall industry upsurge was INR 1347 crore of which INR 800 crore was contributed by media spends alone growing at 18%. Digital shot up by a whopping 84% from INR 475 crore to INR 875 crore.. While TV continues to grow as the biggest medium for ad spends in sports, brands are also having a clear digital plan along with a presence on TV to build a rapport with their consumers by reaching out to them in more ways than one. Engagement and interactivity are important elements of consumer marketing, and digital technology can be leveraged well to give differentiated solutions to sports lovers. 2019 also saw fantasy sports applications growing fast as advertisers and this traction will be carried forward into 2020 also with new experiences for the Indian sports fan. BCCI home series deals saw double the jump in sports sponsorship amounts. Paytm’s bid was at 58% incremental value in comparison to the previous per match value. Dream11, Lafarge Holcim (ACC Cement and Ambuja Cement), Hyundai will be the official sponsors for the next four years. In 2019, 70 new brand endorsement deals had happened. 50 out of 70 endorsements were done by cricketers. While 85% of total brand endorsements have come from cricketers, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni pulled away 63% of the total brand endorsements. A total of 329 endorsement deals took place out of which 228 brands signed up with cricketers. The non-cricketing space was dominated by women athletes. Badminton queen P V Sindhu was the leading non-cricketing athlete in 2019 in terms of brand endorsements. While Sindhu added four brands to her portfolio, the most notable one among them was her tie-up with VISA that made her the first Indian athlete to endorse the financial services brand.

 Mary Kom was another prominent name in the list of brand endorsers. While she brought glory for India at international Boxing events, she also added four brands to her tally. Adding to their list of brands were track &amp; field sensation Hima Das and Olympic Medallist Sakshi Malik too. All the women athletes added 11 new brands in 2019 takes the tally to 45 from 34 in 2018.

Indian Sports Sponsorship crossed ₹9000 crore in 2019; 57% came from media spends: GroupM’s ESP Properties

<ul><li><keyword id="285387" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Haier-India">Haier India</keyword> to become a billion-dollar company by 2020 and is also certain about being one of the top three players in the home appliance segment in the next two years. </li><li>With its recent investment in Uttar Pradesh’s industrial park, Haier is aiming to offer almost 4,000 new direct employment opportunities along with over 10,000 indirect jobs.</li><li>This year, the brand set aside ₹110 crore as its marketing budget. The brand spent its marketing monnies on traditional advertising, combined with digital and strategic brand sponsorships with an end goal of increasing engagement across channels. </li></ul>The Chinese appliances and electronic goods maker, Haier has grown 35% this year and aims to become a billion dollar company by the end of 2020. It is also aiming at becoming one of the top three players in the home appliance segment and rise from its currently held fifth position in the country. Last year, Haier India, which follows January-December fiscal calendar, grew at 50% and recorded a net revenue of around ₹3,500 crore. Despite seeing a dip in its Y-o-Y growth this year, Eric Braganza, President, Haier India is positive about achieving his set goals in 2020. “Our assurance is driven largely by the higher sales and Haier’s growth trajectory in India,” says Braganza. Importance of Indian Market for Haier For Haier, India is one of the top contributing markets. Hence, the brand aims to introduce new ‘state-of-the-art products that align with its philosophy of Inspired Living into the market.’ Sharing the reason behind India’s strength, Branganza said, “Being at the forefront of introducing innovation through our products, we have evolved as a market disruptor in consumer durables. We have a network of 20,000 dealers across India, in which around 2,000 are direct and 18,000 are indirect dealers. We are further growing our customer base through an extensive retail network of large format stores, multi-brand outlets and a robust dealer network across the country.” In its attempt to further strengthen its presence in the country and to ‘meet the rising demands,’ Haier invested ₹3,069 crore in an industrial park in Uttar Pradesh. It is set to open its doors by the end of 2020. Through this expansion, Haier aims to create almost 4,000 new direct employment opportunities along with over 10,000 indirect jobs. Braganza said Haier is also open to further expand in India, citing the company’s growth and consumers growing demands. Right now, Haier gets its lion’s share from refrigerators ー 40% of its overall turnover. “We are now increasing our investments across other categories such as Air Conditioners, Washing Machines and LED TVs,” says Braganza. Performance in 2019 Haier India set aside ₹110 crore as its marketing budget this year. In the first half of the year, it launched an integrated marketing campaign for its PuriCool range of air conditioners. The brand spent its marketing monnies on traditional advertising, combined with digital and strategic brand sponsorships such as KBC, Mega Icons, Masterchef, Mr. Punjab, and a few other regional programmes to ‘establish a closer connect with the customer.’ With the changing marketing landscape, Braganza says, content marketing is becoming important to engage with the consumers. “Content is an important aspect of marketing strategies today, given the influx of multiple surfaces and mediums where customers reside. It has become essential to effectively build a connect with customers in varied forms such as video, print or in a modern setup -- a gif, meme, website interface/blogs that play a critical role in forming a brand perception in consumer’s mind,” he adds. Braganza takes pride in the campaign ‘Silent Performers’ for its range of Silent Washing Machines launched during the festive season. The campaign highlighted the riveting stories of India’s leading women athletes -- Hima Das (sprint runner), Dipa Karmakar (Olympian artistic gymnast) and Simranjit Kaur (Indian boxer). “The TVC has been picturized on the daily lives of these sportswomen who champion the notion of achieving goals despite ‘unimaginable challenges’ and ‘media glare’,” he explains. This year, Haier also introduced heavy discounts and cashback offers to latch onto the trend. It saw more and more consumers ‘shifting to easy finance options for purchasing products’ and decided to partner with Bajaj Finserv, HDBFS, HDFC, IDFC First, Kotak and Axis Bank. Collectively, it offered affordable EMI schemes while giving the customers a chance to make the most of the festive season. Going forward, the brand will continue using integrated marketing solutions to increase engagement with its consumers, introduce new products to meet their rising demands, and give them an ultimate product experience.

Haier sees 35% brand growth this year; remains certain about becoming a billion-dollar company by 2020

Moving the needle to women in sports, sportswear brand Adidas, India, launched a new campaign film ‘SHE BREAKS BARRIERS’ as an effort to increase women engagement, news agency IANS reported. 'She Breaks Barriers' showcases three powerful and leading national icons -- sprinter Hima Das, heptathlete Swapna Barman and boxer Nikhat Zareen and delivers on the message that each woman has the capability to achieve their dreams, no matter how big, and that no barrier is daunting enough to hold them back.
