Her departure after six years follows the resignations of three members of the founding team, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/openai-execs-worried-company-collapse-ilya-sutskever-left-report-2024-9">Ilya Sutskever</a>, who was chief scientist, Andrej Karpathy, and John Schulman, this year. A fourth cofounder and president, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/openai-leadership-changes-brockman-deng-schulman-anthropic-departures-2024-8">Greg Brockman</a>, is out on sabbatical through the end of the year. In the fallout of these exits, tech recruiter Alex Klein said he's noticed more OpenAI employees turn on the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/linkedin-open-to-work-banner-badge-job-pros-cons-2024-9">Open to Work</a> banner on LinkedIn, which is supposed to signal recruiters that they'd welcome their outreach. Dan Miller, a recruiter and partner at True Search, said his firm has fielded more interest from current employees since the board's failed coup."I have a couple of friends who are at OpenAI. They reached out asking, "How do I get into Anthropic?" said Tim Tully, a partner at Anthropic backer Menlo Ventures.Suddenly, it's starting to feel like open season for OpenAI employees as the company announced it closed on a massive $6.6 billion funding round, in which Cathie Wood's Ark Venture Fund <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cathie-wood-ark-venture-openai-funding-2024-10">agreed to invest at least $250 million</a>, Business Insider first reported. Ark joins other investors Thrive Capital, which led the round. Half a dozen recruiters and technology investors told Business Insider that the company's near-constant power struggles, purges, and a fierce philosophical debate among workers about how best to develop artificial intelligence make it easier for other startups to swoop in and hire away technical staff. When OpenAI launched as a research nonprofit, it sought "to advance digital intelligence in the way that is most likely to benefit humanity as a whole, unconstrained by a need to generate financial return." This year, it hired away OpenAI's former safety lead, Jan Leike; Schulman, cofounder and chief architect of ChatGPT; and Durk Kingma, another cofounder.In an X post on Tuesday, Kingma said, "Anthropic's approach to AI development resonates significantly with my own beliefs, looking forward to contributing to Anthropic's mission of developing powerful AI systems responsibly."The chaos at OpenAI is a boon for Anthropic's recruiting efforts."When you look at another company and there's drama around it, as a customer or an employee, you're like, wait a minute. If all these great people are leaving, what does that say?" said Matt Murphy, a partner at Menlo Ventures. "The more time you spend with Anthropic, the more you really like the team and what they're about."Companies like Anthropic and Perplexity are telling recruiters that they're seeking "mission-oriented" candidates. Employees who feel tightly aligned with the mission are less likely to jump for more money, recruiters said, and as far as salaries go, OpenAI continues to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.levels.fyi/companies/openai/salaries/software-engineer?country=254">pay above</a> market rate. Founders added that they get better work out of people who are highly engaged with the mission."At Glean, we are very focused on mission-oriented candidates," said Arvind Jain, Glean's founder and CEO. "Engineers love the product we build as it is for them. And when they are aligned with our mission of helping everyone work better with AI, they make the biggest impact."Jain added that workers who are experts in large language models remain in short supply. "There is more demand, and more startups than folks, especially in the Bay Area where we hire," Jain said.<h2 id="6f360375-df24-4bbe-8971-194139e4a1f3">Size matters</h2>There's another, less altruistic reason employees are leaving OpenAI. Recruiters and investors said employees could make a lot more money at a smaller startup by selling their shares in an exit."One consideration would be that Open AI is so highly valued at this point that it's a question how much more your stock would be worth compared to the strike price (at least for recent hires) if and when it ever went public," said Matt Hoffman, partner and head of talent at M13, an early-stage venture capital firm.He continued, "But what I see much more often is that for the best engineers, it's far more interesting to work on early stage, smaller companies where they can have an outsize impact in building and creating the next big thing."The search startup Perplexity has more than doubled its workforce to just over a hundred people this year, according to the company. Part of the pitch it makes to candidates, said Johnny Ho, chief strategy officer and a cofounder, is that they can work without the red tape and time-wasters at a bigger company."One thing that's very easy to perceive is the ratio of the number of users we have compared to the number of employees," Ho said. "It's a unique opportunity where you have a lot of leverage for your skillset wherever you are on the stack."

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Bank of America cited three risks that could upend corporate earnings growth, a key driver of stock returns.</li><li>One potential headwind is Trump's proposed tariff plan, BofA said.</li></ul>The stock market has been <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/trump-election-win-stock-market-today-record-high-sp500-dow-2024-11">riding high</a> since Donald Trump won the presidential election.One main driver of that has been investors pricing in strong profit growth in the future, seen as a direct byproduct of Trump's plans to cut the corporate tax rate and loosen regulation.Although <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/bank-of-america">Bank of America</a>'s year-end target for the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/s&amp;p_500">S&amp;P 500</a> is slightly above current levels, new research from the firm's equity-strategy team laid out three developments that could derail the ongoing "earnings-per-share upcycle" that's powering gains.First, an economic recession could significantly undercut earnings growth, drawing S&amp;P EPS down 10% to 20%.Though a US downturn isn't BofA's base case, the bank cited that recession risk is a real possibility under incoming president Donald Trump.That will depend on which policies the incoming administration prioritizes, analysts wrote in a separate note. In a scenario where Trump pushes dramatic immigration curbs and protectionist trade policies amid minimal fiscal easing, the economy would sink into recession.Peak-to-trough profit drawdowns of 20% are typical in an average recession. Under this scenario, EPS would drop to $195-$220 next year.To be sure, BofA also sees chances of blowout growth, if the president-elect de-emphasizes trade and immigration restrictions in favor of tax cuts and deregulation. In this case, GDP growth could even exceed 3% in 2025.Second, if Trump's trade plans are implemented, retaliatory tariffs could trigger a 10% hit to EPS.During his campaign, the president-elect pledged to implement a 10% duty on all foreign imports into the US. That wouldn't apply to Chinese products, which would face a 60% rate instead.If Trump stays true to his word, BofA expects US foreign sales to take on a 3% to 4% hit as the rest of the world establishes its own retaliatory tariffs.In the mounting trade war, industrials and semiconductor stocks would be most at risk, the bank said.Third, a dramatic upswing in bond yields could slash EPS by another 10%.BofA's worst-case scenario would be if the 10-year Treasury yield surges to 7%, a situation that could be prompted if Trump's tariff and immigration reductions spark an inflation shock.If this were to happen, the yield jump implies that the Purchasing Managers Index would hit 43 by 2024's year-end.This measure monitors the health of US manufacturing and indicates a contraction whenever its reading stands below 50. As of October, PMI registered a 46.5 level.While a contracting manufacturing base would cut into EPS, higher bond yields could also weigh on equity exposure. BofA noted that stocks could face increased pressure once the 10-year rate rises above 5%.The yield has been climbing higher amid Trump's election, as uncertainty has grown over whether the Federal Reserve can cut rates amid the president-elect's policies. The 10-year rate is currently trading above 4.5%.

Higher interest rates, struggling European economies, and global inflation have created a more volatile world regardless of who won the election."Throwing Trump in, even moreso," Webb said.For managers that trade volatility and hedge against market crashes, these types of conditions are normally when their strategies come into play. But market volatility is at its lowest levels since July, according to the VIX index, Wall Street's favorite measure of uneasiness. Assets from US stocks to bitcoin are hitting all-time highs despite the economic backdrop — the Federal Reserve cut rates in September, indicating a slowing economy — being far from ideal."When people think things can't go down, that's when you start to worry," said Brandon Yarckin, the chief operating officer of $16 billion tail-risk asset manager Universa Investments, in an interview with Business Insider. He pointed out that billionaire Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway is sitting on more cash than ever before — a sign that the Oracle of Omaha thinks markets are overvalued."There's a lot of kindling for a crash out there," Yarckin said.The euphoria and fear of missing out on the rally means investors are not knocking down the door of those who thrive in chaotic conditions. Universa has demand for its strategy currently, Yarckin said, but it's coming from "a small subset of people."Simon Aninat, a volatility portfolio manager for Natixis affiliate Seeyond, said clients haven't asked to revive a long-volatility strategy that performed well during the early days of the pandemic, but was closed in mid-2023 due to a lack of demand. Stock market today: US stocks pull back from record levels as traders ready for big week of earnings

After a steep nosedive in demand for office space rentals during 2020 and 2021, a new <keyword id="19955574" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Colliers-report" source="keywords">Colliers report</keyword> has now noted that office rentals across six major <keyword id="20026638" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-cities" source="keywords">Indian cities</keyword> have finally rebounded to their <keyword id="20789690" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pre-pandemic-levels" source="keywords">pre-pandemic levels</keyword> and even inched around 2-8% higher. While some cities like <keyword id="19900176" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyderabad" source="keywords">Hyderabad</keyword> and Pune had already gone beyond their pre-pandemic rental levels as early as 2022, <keyword id="19895037" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru" source="keywords">Bengaluru</keyword> and Chennai had followed suit a year later in 2023. The last to join the bandwagon were <keyword id="19906633" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-NCR" source="keywords">Delhi NCR</keyword> and Mumbai, which finally managed to breach their pre-pandemic levels in 2024. However, both Delhi and Mumbai recorded the highest jump in average rentals at 8% each, followed by Mumbai and Chennai, which saw hikes of about 5-6% during this period. The recovery in demand for office spaces, which kicked off in 2022, has stayed steady since. Arpit Mehrotra, Managing Director, Office Services, India, Colliers notes that going ahead, the annual increase in average quoted rentals at the end of 2024 is likely to be higher for certain cities like Delhi NCR and Pune, as compared to other markets. "Moreover, as demand scale-up in Indian <keyword id="20107243" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="commercial-real-estate" source="keywords">commercial real estate</keyword> solidifies, notwithstanding unforeseen events, annual space take up to the tune of 60 million sq ft is likely to be the new norm in the medium-term," he added. <h2>Prime location takes the cake</h2>Even within these cities, the growth of rental demand in certain micro-markets, which are located at prime locations, saw greater than the 2-8% average growth. For instance, in Delhi NCR, Gold Course Extension Road, Noida Expressway, and Cyber City saw up to a 25% rise in rentals. In Bengaluru, which saw around 2% <keyword id="22329786" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rental-growth" source="keywords">rental growth</keyword> overall, Whitefield and ORR (Outer Ring Road) commanded a rental premium, with rents here surging by as much as 5-10% between 2019 and 2024. IOMR Zone 1 in Chennai and Bandra-Kurla Complex, Goregaon, and JVLR in Mumbai saw rents surge by around 10-20% from pre-pandemic levels between 2019 and 2024. In contrast, rental rates in Chennai and Mumbai grew at around 5% and 6%, respectively. In Hyderabad, SBD, or the Secondary Business District, which comprises of Gachibowli, Hitec City, and more, saw rentals surge between 5-10% between 2019 and 2024, as opposed to the 5% cumulative rental growth experienced by Hyderabad. In Pune, CBD and Kharadi saw rentals inch up by 5-10%, whereas the whole of Pune only saw their rentals grow by around 5% during the past 6 years. Mumbai and Delhi have also seen a dip in <keyword id="23656583" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vacancy-levels" source="keywords">vacancy levels</keyword> since 2019. While this has dropped to 20% in Delhi at present, Mumbai ranks the lowest in terms of empty office spaces at 10.7%. In both these cities, demand for office spaces has consistently outpaced supply, which explains the low vacancies. In contrast, in Hyderabad, where supply continues to trump demand, current vacancy levels have gone as high as 25%. Going ahead, the Colliers report also estimates that average office rentals can witness up to 10% annual growth across key Indian cities by the end of this year.

Office rents across all major Indian cities surpass pre-pandemic levels in 2024, notes a new report

Shares of <keyword id="19956271" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola-Electric-Mobility" source="keywords">Ola Electric Mobility</keyword> were in a freefall today, tanking about 4.55% on the NSE and 4.88% on BSE. Today also marked 30 days since the company was listed on the bourses (August 9th), bringing down shutters on the one-month lock-in window anchor investors are mandated to hold stocks for, before deciding to offload 50% of shareholding. Around 18.18 crore shares, or about 4% of company's outstanding shares were eligible for trading in the market post the 30-day lock-in, which hurtled Ola's stock towards Rs 100. While the stock managed to gain some ground later in the day, and was trading at Rs 114.10 when the markets closed today, slightly up from its intraday low of Rs 109. However, it still remained a far cry from its all-time high price of Rs 157.4, which it had hit on August 20th, 2024. Ola Electric, which currently dominates the Indian EV space, debuted on stock exchanges last month, and was looking to raise Rs 6,145.56 crore via fresh issue, along with an OFS (offer for sale) of 8.49 crore equity shares. The IPO was oversubscribed by around 4x. Going ahead, the Bhavish Aggarwal-led startup is also set to face intense competition from fellow EV maker Ather Energy. With its IPO set to hit the markets soo, Ather is looking to raise Rs 3,100 crore via fresh issue, and an OFS of about 2.2 crore equity shares. Per the DRHP (draft red herring prospectus) filed by Ather, its net worth for FY24 stood at Rs 545.9 crore. The remaining 50% of Ola Electric's shares will be eligible for offloading by anchor investors in 60 days from now, or 90 days since the date of allotment. While this event will certainly test Ola's buoyancy in the market, the fact remains that Ola was off to a stellar start days after its listing, when the stock price accelerated to Rs 157.4 on August 20th, 2024. This skyrocketed the company's valuation well beyond that of established Indian 2-wheeler giants like Hero Moto Corp and Bajaj, albeit briefly. In fact, for a small period, Ola Electric Mobility had recorded valuations higher than that of Tesla's. For perspective, Ola's market capitalization, as of today, stood at Rs 50,327.57 crore. Bajaj Auto, which listed on the exchanges in 2008, presently has a market value of Rs 3,02,993.79 crore, while Hero Moto Corp, which was listed in 2003, currently has a market value of Rs 1,14,788.59 crore. However, ever since hitting this peak on August 20th, Ola's prices have only been on a downward journey. However, now that the stock has witnessed a price correction of sorts, the question remains- has Ola corrected enough, or are we still in for further downside? As per SEBI registered Investment Advisor Gaurav Goel, Ola continues to trade in the expensive zone despite recent correction. "The recent mercurial rise in the stock has been more on the promise it holds for the future. It is the largest <keyword id="23099550" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="E-Scooter-Manufacturing" source="keywords">E-Scooter Manufacturing</keyword> company in India, with 31% market share in the E2W sector, selling 3,29,618 scooters in FY24. Recently, it also forayed into the motorcycle segment with several new “Roadster” models at an attractive pricing. It is building an Ola Gigafactory for cell production in Tamil Nadu, and a Battery Innovation Centre in Bangalore", Goel explained. "However, we feel that despite attractive future plans, the stock is currently overpriced. The consensus view among strategists is that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-invest-trump-win-election-stock-market-outlook-strategy-2024-11">US stocks are set up for success during Trump's next term</a>, as they believe his policies will benefit corporations and the economy.Sébastien Page, an investment chief and head of global multi-asset at T. Rowe Price, is mostly on board with this upbeat sentiment. He told Business Insider last week that the post-election relief rally checks out, as markets finally have more clarity about policy in the next four years."The reduction in the uncertainty that we had going into the election — that's good for stocks," Page said in an interview, as are the possibilities of deregulation and corporate tax cuts.Even more vital for stocks is the economic growth backdrop. Widely followed indicators like GDP growth and the unemployment rate <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/economy-outlook-tariffs-trump-trade-war-slowdown-jpmorgan-david-kelly-2024-10">suggest that the US is already on solid ground</a>, and <a target="_blank" href="https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/consumer-confidence">consumer sentiment is rebounding strongly</a> from perplexingly low levels.While there have been signs of softness in the labor market, including <a target="_blank" href="https://data.bls.gov/timeseries/ces0000000001?output_view=net_1mth">lackluster job additions in four of the last five months</a>, Page expects the economic expansion to roll on — at least for now."The probability of recession is rarely zero, but my view is, it's unlikely for the next 12 months," Page said.<h2 id="d6647ee1-0cb2-4d09-9bed-457944a6aa59">3 key risks to watch heading into 2025</h2>Although Page is optimistic about the path forward for stocks and the economy, he thinks investors shouldn't ignore three risks that could cause a market reversal.Chief among Page's concerns is that valuations are historically high and leave little room for error on the earnings front.The S&amp;P 500's 35.6% rise in the last 12 months and 67% gain since its bear-market low in October 2022 has pushed the index's price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio to over 22x. That's an underrated reason why stocks have done so well lately.But otherwise, it's quite possible that the S&amp;P 500 could give back much of its recent gains."There's a lot priced in," Page said. "The earnings expectations for next year are <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-invest-q3-earnings-season-recession-risk-investing-strategy-2024-10">about 15% growth</a>. We're tracking at around 9% growth this year."Page added: "Earnings coming up is good, but high expectations can lead to disappointment."Stocks often perform well in expansions, the investment chief said, though there are exceptions.In 2022, the S&amp;P 500 had its worst year since the financial crisis, <a target="_blank" href="https://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~adamodar/New_Home_Page/datafile/spearn.htm">even as earnings ticked up</a>. But the president has more power over trade policy than fiscal, and all those expectations [are] for lower taxes, so maybe the market's underestimating this a little bit."Trump <a target="_blank" href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/economy/trump-favors-huge-new-tariffs-how-do-they-work">has hinted</a> that he'll put 60% tariffs on Chinese imports and up to 20% tariffs on other foreign goods, though even some of his outspoken critics have said that he might be bluffing. That's Page's hunch as well."It's not necessarily what is actually going to happen," Page said. "With this administration, there's a tendency to use tariffs as part of a strategy to bring manufacturing into the country, as a negotiation tool."If Trump actually implements such tariffs, pundits like Anthony Scaramucci have said <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/stock-market-crash-risk-outlook-trump-deportation-tariff-anthony-scaramucci-2024-11">there'd be a major market meltdown</a>. Page had no such call, but even if there was a modest pullback, the investment chief wouldn't necessarily complain."We like to buy when markets sell off," Page said.
