The show follows an unusual, goofy pirate named <a href="https://www.insider.com/netflix-one-piece-shanks-actor-character-backstory-explained-2023-8">Monkey D. Luffy</a> who seeks to become King of the Pirates by finding a special treasure called the One Piece.</p><p>The story began as a manga, a form of comics that originates from Japan, in 1997. Two years later, it was adapted into an anime, an animation style produced in Japan, as the manga also continued.</p><p>Now, both the manga and the anime have over 1,000 chapters and episodes, and there have been multiple anime films based on the story.</p><p>With the support of manga creator Eiichiro Oda, season one of Netflix's "One Piece" mainly focuses on the first chunk of the story. In fact, episodes 45 to 47 of the anime explain what happens to Buggy and Alvida after their fight with Luffy and how they decide to team up.</p><p>In addition, Garp, who is the grandfather of Luffy and a major antagonist in season one of the Netflix show, isn't formally introduced until much later in the anime and manga. Because of this, the secrets regarding Luffy's heritage are kept hidden for longer than they are in the Netflix series.</p><p>Hence, Garp's entire arc, including using Koby and Helmeppo to chase the Straw Hats around East Blue Sea and his fight with Luffy in the season finale, won't be relevant if you pick up the anime story.</p>

Here's where to start watching 'One Piece,' the anime, if you just finished the Netflix series and need more while waiting for a renewal

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Amazon's "Daisy Jones &amp; The Six" is adapted from a novel about musicians in the '70s.</li><li>Insider spoke with Sebastian Chacon and Nabiyah Be about inclusive changes to their characters.</li></ul><p>Noticeable changes in a book-to-screen adaptation can be tricky to pull off, particularly when the book is a beloved bestseller like "Daisy Jones &amp; The Six."</p><p>But for stars Sebastian Chacon and Nabiyah Be, the show provided an opportunity to make the story more inclusive for Latino and queer fans.</p><p>"Daisy Jones &amp; The Six" follows a fictional band as they chase fame and fortune, find both, then promptly fall apart. It was largely inspired by the Laurel Canyon era and the '70s rock scene in Los Angeles, which author Taylor Jenkins Reid has described as<a href="https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/mar/02/taylor-jenkins-reid-daisy-jones-and-the-six-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> "dominated by white males."</a></p><p>Chacon plays Warren Rojas, The Six's exuberant drummer with an iconic mustache and a knack for staying drama-free. Be plays the powerful vocalist Simone Jackson, who is introduced as Daisy's best friend and becomes an early disco pioneer.</p><p>Chacon and Be opened up to Insider about the on-screen changes made to their characters, and why they were fully on board. (Warning: Minor spoilers ahead.)</p><div type="image" title="daisy jones and the six album seveneightnine" height="1500" width="3000" msid="98392354" hostid="261" sizebytes="376006"></div><p>In the book, Warren's last name is Rhodes and there's no indication that he's a Latino man. (It is implied that another character is Latina: Camila Dunne, née Martinez, is the inspiration behind The Six's song "Señora.")</p><p>But when Chacon was cast, he had a conversation with the showrunners about changing Warren's last name to maintain some of his own heritage.</p><p>"I did a lot of research trying to see if there was a white, American band that had a Latin anything. And they don't. There's like, one or two — Slayer in the '80s had a Cuban drummer, New York Dolls had a Colombian drummer," he explained to Insider, referring to David Lombardo and Billy Murcia, respectively.</p><p>"But it's not common," he continued. "So I wanted that to be a part of it somehow and I didn't wanna necessarily erase this special thing."</p><p>Chacon said he "threw out a bunch of last names" and Rojas is the one that stuck. </p><p>He also said he "peppered" his scenes with visual nods to the change: Warren wears merchandise from the Fania All-Stars, a supergroup of salsa musicians formed in the late '60s; he plays the drums with timbale sticks, which are traditionally used for percussion in Latin music, salsa, reggae, and mambo.</p><p>"I have some traditional Mexican fabrics and Aztec necklaces and Native American beads," he said of his on-screen style. "I'm like, 'How do I put that in as much as possible without making that his whole story?'"</p><div type="image" title="simone bernie daisy jones and the six" height="1499" width="3000" msid="98392361" hostid="261" sizebytes="237528"></div><p>The changes to Be's character are far less subtle. Reid said Simone is "very loosely based on Donna Summer," a disco star <a href="https://www.glaad.org/blog/lgbt-community-remembers-donna-summer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">who credited gay clubs with her early success</a>.</p><p>"The face of rock 'n' roll was the white man and the face of disco was the Black woman," Be told Insider.</p><p>In the book, Simone's sexuality is unknown. Her scenes focus largely on her friendship with Daisy and her solo career in New York, but we know that she eventually gets married and has a daughter named Trina.</p><p>In the show, however, Simone's queerness is both explicit and essential to her arc; her move to New York is partially motivated by a queer love interest named Bernie (Ayesha Harris).</p><p>"I think it was a great addition because gay people created disco music," Be said. "It was part of the movement, it was part of why the music was so relevant. So making Simone a queer character and having her be the pioneer, the face, and one of the fundamental aspects of this genre coming to life, I thought was super important."</p><p>Although Simone is shy when it comes to expressing her sexuality in the open — and suffers a setback when her record label asks her to stay closeted — Be said that part of the story was equally important to include because it's true to life.</p><p>"That was happening to Black queer artists still, 'til not that long ago," she said, adding: "A lot of Simone's stories are real."</p><p><em>"Daisy Jones &amp; The Six" is available to stream on Amazon Prime. <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/daisy-jones-and-the-six">Follow along with our coverage here</a>.</em></p>

'Daisy Jones & The Six' stars Sebastian Chacon and Nabiyah Be explain how their characters helped make the show more inclusive than the book

<ul class="summary-list"><li>When I was a young "<keyword id="12067470" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="harry-potter" source="Orion">Harry Potter</keyword>" fan in <keyword id="11892747" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, the Patils meant so much to me.</li><li>Their hideous on-screen Yule Ball outfits, however, were a wasted opportunity for representation.</li></ul><p>My decade-old copy of "<a href="https://www.insider.com/harry-potter-fantastic-beasts-movies-ranked-2018-12">Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone</a>" still looks new, except for the tiny dog-ear in chapter seven on a page I revisited time and time again.</p><p>On that folded page, we readers witness our first Sorting Hat ceremony and meet "a pair of twin girls, 'Patil' and 'Patil.'"</p><p>Even though I had little more than a last name, I was immediately invested in their character development and what would come next for them.</p><p>Unfortunately, <a href="https://www.insider.com/jk-rowling-transgender-comments-show-reality-wizarding-world-harry-potter-2020-6">J.K. Rowling</a> didn't give them growth, and the movies didn't provide them with opportunities to progress either. Really, the movies did these twins dirtier than I could've imagined.</p><h2><strong>As a young Indian Potterhead, I instantly identified with Parvati and Padma</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Gryffindor Harry Potter students" height="713" width="950" msid="87140448" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>It was because of my culture that I had such a big response to the introduction of minor characters who, really, would have no important role in the series.</p><p>Patil is a common family name in India, where I live. When I first read "Sorcerer's Stone," India's president - the first and only woman to hold that office - was Pratibha Patil, a name that could've been a good choice for a third sister if the Patils were triplets.</p><p>I was used to the name in my regular life, but seeing it in the Wizarding World was something else entirely. "<a href="https://www.insider.com/photos-harry-potter-movie-cast-then-and-now">Harry Potter</a>" wasn't just a series of books; it was a phenomenon and a watershed moment for young-adult fiction.</p><p>It was also overwhelmingly British, with characters who were either clearly stated or implied to be Caucasian, people who had names nobody around me had, and kids who had blond and red hair - a spectrum absent from our rainbow here in India.</p><p>In this unfamiliar landscape, the presence of the Patils became my own personal connection to the world of magic.</p><p>As a young Indian girl, I was sure the twins would probably dress like me, eat like me, and even live with a family like mine.</p><h2><strong>But the Patils had disappointing character arcs - if you can even call them that - and were immediately shoved to the side</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="harry potter page where the Patils are first mentioned" height="2251" width="2994" msid="87140449" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>The Patils' character arcs seemed promising in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."</p><p>We see Parvati more closely since she is a Gryffindor like the leads Harry, Ron, and Hermione. She gets as much dialogue as some other supporting characters. In a pivotal scene, we see her standing up for Neville Longbottom, who was being bullied by <a href="https://www.insider.com/harry-potter-interesting-things-about-draco-malfoy-trivia-2021-9">Draco Malfoy</a>, thus embodying the "daring, nerve, and chivalry" that sets Gryffindors apart from the rest.</p><p>Slowly, however, I noticed the Patil sisters fading away.</p><p>We see the sisters occasionally in the first three books in the Gryffindor common room, at Quidditch matches, and in divination class. Then we see only glimpses of them as members of Dumbledore's Army in the fifth book, exactly four lines of dialogue in the sixth book, and a couple of mentions in the final book's Battle of Hogwarts.</p><p>The books don't even leave us with a definite answer as to whether they survive the battle.</p><h2>The girls' big moment is also the series' biggest <strong>waste of an opportunity to showcase Indian culture</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Parvati Patil dancing with Harry Potter and Ron Weasley with Padma Patil." height="600" width="1200" msid="87140452" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>In the fourth book, Parvati and Padma's role as Harry and Ron's dates to the Yule Ball is the peak of their character progress - I refuse to call it development because they do not evolve beyond one dimension.</p><p>For my teenage self, it was immensely reassuring to know that Indian girls were fully capable of being found worthy by the Chosen One and his faithful friend. It helps that that books describe the situation in a fluffy, rom-com manner and paint a lovely picture of the outfits they wore to the ball:</p><p><em>"Parvati ... looked very pretty indeed, in robes of shocking pink, with her long dark plait braided with gold, and gold bracelets glimmering at her wrists …</em><em><br /></em><em>"'Hi,' said Padma, who was looking just as pretty as Parvati in robes of bright turquoise."</em></p><p>Having read this and imagined many versions of what their outfits might be, I was excited for the film version of the sequence.</p><p>Unfortunately, their grand entrance is also <a href="https://www.insider.com/harry-potter-stars-best-and-worst-things-on-set">one of the biggest letdowns in cinematic history</a>. Years later, their atrocious costuming still spawns think pieces and the <a href="https://www.buzzfeed.com/andreborges/xx-people-who-are-still-not-over-padma-and-parvatis-yule-bal?utm_source=dynamic&amp;utm_campaign=bfsharecopycopy">righteous anger</a> of <a href="https://www.buzzfeed.com/regajha/harry-potter-and-the-prisoners-of-bad-fashion">my nation</a>.</p><p>As soon as I saw Parvati and Padma, I had a strong suspicion <a href="https://www.insider.com/harry-potter-films-cool-unique-things-about-costumes-2021-8">the costume designers</a> neither were Indian nor consulted with anyone who was.</p><p>The girls wore garish pink-and-orange lehengas, a traditional Indian ethnic costume that consists of a floor-length skirt, a matching top, and, occasionally, a scarf called the dupatta. It's worn to celebrations, formal events, and festivals.</p><p>Most important, lehengas are tough to get wrong - they are naturally graceful, come in a variety of designs, and are often sold in sets, which takes the brainwork out of matching the outfit. Many Indian designers exclusively make lehengas, giving wearers a plethora of options.</p><p>It takes a lot of work to make a lehenga look bad. And yet, the film managed to do it, with candy-colored outfits that did not fit, weren't accessorized properly, and didn't even match the descriptions in the book.</p><p>Even worse, it wasn't necessary to have the twins wear Indian clothes in the first place - the book mentioned only "robes." If the filmmakers were trying to pay homage to the sisters' heritage, they wasted a wonderful opportunity to showcase the sisters' cultural background.</p><p>Disappointed by the caricature-ish clothes shown on-screen, Indian artists have even <a href="https://barficulture.tv/entertainment/104">taken it upon themselves</a> to <a href="https://kidovna.tumblr.com/image/614484073841295360">recreate</a> the Patils' look for the ball, giving the sisters the outfits they deserve.</p><h2><strong>The Patils aren't the first Indian characters to be robbed of their identities</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Afshan Azad and Shefali Chowdhury" height="1452" width="1936" msid="87140454" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>Western media has a representation problem that goes beyond "<a href="https://www.insider.com/harry-potter-first-and-last-lines-in-the-series-2021-6">Harry Potter</a>."</p><p>For a country with an approximately <a href="https://ca.movies.yahoo.com/latest-figures-ethnic-diversity-uk-120914432.html">14%</a> minority population, the UK has a massive <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/sep/19/whats-taking-so-long-childrens-books-still-neglect-bame-readers-finds-study">representation problem</a> - which also exists in the US and other Western countries - that excludes people of color from art.</p><p>Western media's representation of Indian characters has often been stereotypical, lazy, and borderline offensive - one need look no further than <a href="https://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/the-soft-racism-of-apu-from-the-simpsons">Apu from "The Simpsons"</a> and <a href="https://www.thestar.com/opinion/commentary/2013/09/22/hollywood_puts_a_thin_mask_on_racial_stereotyping.html">Raj from "The Big Bang Theory."</a> This fetishization of the exotic takes two forms, with characters either used for tokenistic diversity or made the butt of jokes.</p><p>But Parvati and Padma Patil are neither - their ethnic origins are never really proclaimed or highlighted enough to merit accusations of tokenism, and they are never used for the punch line.</p><p>Instead, they represent untapped potential and unrealized opportunities. Rowling didn't seem to understand the importance of these characters to people like me - perhaps if she had, we'd have a well-researched portrayal of two Indian girls.</p><p>As for the film, it required just a little hard work to make sure the only tangible on-screen visualization of the twins' heritage was not a twisted, neon, gimmicky version of what is really a vivid and colorful culture.</p><h2>As I grew up, my disappointment with the treatment of the Patils has become my own case study</h2><p>Parvati and Padma Patil are now two of my favorite characters for a different reason.</p><p>They now remind me of the importance of representation and varied perspectives. They drive me to research thoroughly and put in as much effort as is required for accurate and nuanced descriptions. They remind me of the impact and importance that literature and characters we relate to can have on our perception of art.</p><p>And, of course, the sisters will always be a reminder for me to never wear neon pink and bright orange together - a fashion faux pas that should only be made once in history.</p>

With their podcast <a href="https://open.spotify.com/show/3daSd6XWeeM6wXBEPh6al3">Identity at Play</a>, the hosts set out to deconstruct and explore what it means to be Latinx today, and why it isn't an all-encompassing term. </p><p>The <keyword id="11911163" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="spotify" source="Orion">Spotify</keyword> Original podcast echoes the sentiments of longtime Latinx podcast favorites, like Futuro Media's<a href="https://www.latinousa.org/"> Latino USA</a> and NPR's <a href="https://www.npr.org/podcasts/510312/codeswitch">Code Switch</a>, which have, for years, offered insight into conversations about race, society, culture, and how they relate to the Latinx experience.</p><p>With featured guests like US Senator <a href="https://www.padilla.senate.gov/">Alex Padilla</a>, author <a href="http://julissaarce.com/">Julissa Arce</a>, and actor <a href="https://www.instagram.com/robinofjesus/?hl=en">Robin de Jesús</a> from Lin Manuel Miranda's '<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tick,_Tick..._Boom!_(film)">tick, tick... BOOM!</a>,' Identity at Play talks about everything from representation and assimilation and the cultural divisions within the Latinx community to using creativity to rediscover your heritage.</p><h2><strong>It took a few iterations before the podcast got off the ground.</strong></h2><p>Gast, a comedian, writer, educator, and most recently star of the TV show <a href="https://www.vicetv.com/en_us/show/jungletown">Jungletown</a>, airing on VICELAND, and Ambriz, a multimedia journalist and reporter, met in 2017 while working at Justin Baldoni's <a href="https://www.wayfarerstudios.com/">Wayfarer Studios</a>. The duo became close friends.</p><p>Four years later, Gast met López, a chef, activist, and creator of pop-up restaurant <a href="https://www.instagram.com/mofon.go/">Mofon•GO</a>. They talked about starting a podcast and brought Ambriz on board.</p><p>They created a pilot for a limited podcast series and got backing for another one, which aired a couple of episodes but was canceled. It wasn't until they pitched Identity at Play to Spotify that the project took off.</p><div type="image" title="Manolo López, one of the hosts of Identity at Play" height="960" width="1280" msid="91526495" hostid="261"></div><h2><strong>The hosts say the podcast led to a journey of healing.</strong></h2><p>Apart from working in different industries, the hosts come from different backgrounds. </p><p>Gast was raised in a Colombian household, but grew up between the US and Puerto Rico. As an adult, he lived in Panama for a few years. </p><p>Growing up, he said he struggled with his hard-to-define identity. Having dealt with moving and trying to fit in, Gast said he didn't have a clear sense of where he belonged culturally. Identity at Play became an outlet for him to affirm the fact that it's okay to doubt and to grapple with who we are, especially when he connects with guests who've had similar experiences.</p><p>"I think I'm always reminded of how human people are and how often they had moments where they really rejected or were unsure of certain parts of themselves," he said. "And a lot of it is tied to culture."</p><p>Ambriz said she relates to this feeling, as well. The Los Angeles native said she wasn't proud of where she culturally came from for a long time. "I tried to be everything but, and it has been very healing in terms of reassurance for future generations to see people like <a href="https://www.priscilagarciajacquier.com/">Priscila García-Jacquier,</a> <a href="https://katlazo.com/">Kat Lazo</a>, <a href="https://www.yesikasalgado.com/">Yesika Salgado</a>, who have been proud of who they are from almost the very beginning."</p><p><strong>"</strong>It took a lot of re-falling in love with this city and falling in love with myself, and learning to blend all of that love together and being very proud of where I come from," she added.</p><div type="image" title="Leslie Ambriz, one of the hosts of Identity at Play" height="960" width="1280" msid="91526496" hostid="261"></div><p>Manolo López, a born-and-raised Puerto Rican and steadfast champion for the Island, said that it's the hosts' differences that sets their podcast apart.</p><p>López moved to New York in 2011 and went on to create Mofon•GO, a popup restaurant that celebrated Puerto Rican culture. But, as he remembers, his generation didn't see a lot of mainstream Latinx figures.</p><p>"Every Latinx story matters and every Latinx journey is the one that's going to teach the upcoming generations the way," he said. "We didn't have that. We're just figuring it out, and now that we get to step into that space, we know we have a big responsibility."</p><p>The podcast, in a way, has dignified who he is and the work he does, López said.</p><h2><strong>Finding support for the podcast meant learning from those before them.</strong></h2><p>Ambriz said the journey to launching Identity at Play wasn't easy. "Being in the industry, it's hard to get things that are Latinx centered pushed to the forefront regardless of if it's a streaming network, network television, or even a podcast," she said about the representation of Latinos in media.</p><p>She praises people like <a href="https://www.instagram.com/gloriakellett/?hl=en">Gloria Calderón Kellett,</a> <a href="https://www.instagram.com/tanyasaracho/?hl=en">Tanya Saracho</a>'s <a href="https://www.ojalaproductions.com/about">Ojalá Productions</a>, and filmmaker <a href="https://www.instagram.com/rodriguez/?hl=en">Robert Rodriguez</a> for being pioneers in the creative industry.</p><p>"Their journey has essentially led to all the rest of these different outlets in the media taking off and seeing the success and seeing the weight that Latinos have in the industry," she added.</p><div type="image" title="Esteban Gast, one of the hosts of Identity at Play" height="960" width="1280" msid="91526497" hostid="261"></div><p>Landing investing for projects like Identity at Play can be a hassle, and the podcasting industry can turn competitive. But it's a different story for Latinx-led projects.  </p><p>"This industry can be a lot of: 'I'm going to benefit myself and if it doesn't benefit me, then 'sorry, not sorry,'" Ambriz said. "But within the Latinx community, it's a lot of 'let me grab your hand and pull you up with me. Let's work on this together.'"</p><p>The hosts have seen a great fare of support from other Latinx creatives throughout their careers.</p><p>"I've had other people championing me and helping me, and putting my name in the rooms that I currently cannot walk into, and they're mentioning me there,' Ambriz said.</p><h2><strong>With their growing platform comes a greater sense of responsibility.</strong></h2><p>"I think for us, what it's like to be in entertainment as someone who's Latinx is that implicitly, even if you don't choose to be, you're placed in an activist role," Gast said. "We look around and there aren't many podcasts like ours, and Spotify hasn't supported many podcasts like ours."</p><p>Still, Identity at Play's unique position within the podcast community and Spotify allows them to tell stories that otherwise would be missing from the platform, Gast said.</p><p>"If you're telling stories from a particular viewpoint that hasn't been told, no matter what, you're showing up and you have to do it in a way that's thoughtful because it connects with people more than you may believe it can."</p>

I've traveled to Paris regularly for the last 18 years. I think these 14 hotels are as magical as the city itself.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>"<keyword id="814822" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="The-Phantom-Menace">The Phantom Menace</keyword>" is often criticized as a weak movie.</li><li>But Episode 1 is a better "<keyword id="61596" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Star-Wars">Star Wars</keyword>" movie than any made in the last decade.</li><li>The innumerable flaws in <keyword id="46161" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Disney">Disney</keyword>'s movies undermined "Star Wars" as a whole</li></ul><p>"The Phantom Menace" <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20080516101809/http://www.reelviews.net/movies/s/sw2002.html">was called</a> the most "overhyped motion picture of the last decade" upon its 1999 release, but the truth is that all of the most recent "Star Wars" movies released by Disney deserve this title a lot more.</p><p>That's not to say that those films in the last 10 years have been terrible. "Rogue One" is excellent, and there are some great moments in Disney's sequel trilogy, too. But <keyword id="16674" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="George-Lucas">George Lucas</keyword> <em>is</em> "Star Wars," and so too, therefore, is "The Phantom Menace - far more than Disney's polished trilogy.</p><p>The movie is also crucial to the wider context of the "Star Wars" universe, and set things up that are now treasured by the "Star Wars" fandom, including a certain red-headed Sith wielding a double-bladed lightsaber.</p><div type="image" title="The Phantom Menace Jar Jar Binks" height="1200" width="1600" msid="80723509" hostid="261"></div><h2>'The Phantom Menace' has flaws, but none as deep as the sequel trilogy's</h2><p>It's no secret that "The Phantom Menace" could probably use a good edit. It has pacing issues, and the stilted dialogue the prequel movies are often criticized for is almost part of the fabric of "Star Wars" by this point. And yes, Jar Jar Binks is kind of annoying, but not nearly as much as is now widely accepted.</p><p>These are surface-level flaws, creases in an otherwise confident and assured start of a definitive new era of "Star Wars" with believable characters and clear plots.</p><p>The three latest Disney movies, meanwhile, feel like a jumbled mess with no cohesion. It's obvious that the planning was poor, hence Rian Johnson's "The Last Jedi" abandoning all that came in JJ Abrams' "The Force Awakens." Then, when <a href="https://www.vox.com/culture/2017/12/18/16791844/star-wars-last-jedi-backlash-controversy">fans voiced their displeasure</a> with Johnson's movie, Abrams was brought back on board for the grand finale of the Skywalker saga, "The Rise of Skywalker," which essentially felt like two hours of retconning and jamming in plots and characters that were jarring and confusing.</p><p>The flaws in Disney's movies are not just creases, they were deep-rooted issues that undermined "Star Wars" as a whole. From Palpatine's return to Finn's non-existent character arc to Rey's heritage and her sudden force healing ability, plus the series' betrayal of Luke Skywalker ... nothing felt cohesive, unlike the thoughtful, coherent and deliberate expansion of the universe that "The Phantom Menace" achieved.</p><div type="image" title="Star Wars Rise of Skywalker" height="1200" width="1600" msid="80723512" hostid="261"></div><h2>'Star Wars' is at its best when it's new and bold, just like 'The Phantom Menace'</h2><p>"Star Wars" is at it's best when it's offering innovative, bold new stories, as it did with its first-ever installment, "A New Hope" and its sequel "The Empire Strikes Back."</p><p>In an interview with Charlie Rose in 2015, shortly after "The Force Awakens" came out, Lucas said of his previous six "Star Wars" movies: "I worked very hard to make them completely different, with different planets, with different spaceships - you know, to make it new."</p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/O8hQVlRgFlU" frameborder="0"></iframe><p>I walked away from "The Force Awakens" feeling like I'd seen a box-checking tour: Alien bars - tick! A sinister army - tick! A band of rebels - tick! A cute droid - tick! Rather than an innovative experience. As <a href="https://www.inverse.com/article/59505-star-wars-sequels-george-lucas">Lucas said himself of the movie</a>: "there's nothing new."</p><p>This is why "The Mandalorian" works so well. Yes, it brings back old characters, but we also get to see things in the "Star Wars" universe that we haven't seen before, and it expands upon the lore and legend in a completely different era of "Star Wars." We come away from "The Mandalorian" more enriched by "Star Wars," but I never felt that way after one of Disney's sequels, or "Solo." "Rogue One," thankfully, did achieve originality, but not to the degree of the "The Phantom Menace."</p><div type="image" title="The Phantom Menace Obi Wan" height="1200" width="1600" msid="80723513" hostid="261"></div><h2>'The Phantom Menace' is vital to the wider franchise and added to the lore of 'Star Wars'</h2><p>Not only did we get to see a young Obi-Wan Kenobi in action, shading in the life of someone we previously only knew as a wise old man, but we also saw the early beginnings of the boy who would be Vader.</p><p>Plus, we learnt more about the mythical Jedi, and got to see them at the height of their powers in a never-before-seen era before their fall. We learnt about the Sith's rule of two and how a sprawling galaxy was ruled before the Empire took over, not to mention the numeral new planets, species, characters, and civilizations we've come to know and be fascinated with introduced by "The Phantom Menace."</p><div type="image" title="The Phantom Menace Darth Maul" height="1200" width="1600" msid="80723515" hostid="261"></div><p>We also have "The Phantom Menace" to thank for Darth Maul, one of the coolest villains in movie history who immediately became a fan favorite. Animated series "The Clone Wars" and "Rebels" have since expanded upon him to make him one of the saga's most complex and beloved characters - we have Lucas and "The Phantom Menace" to thank for the creation of the spike-headed Sith lord.</p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/e7ra7GebAks" frameborder="0"></iframe><p>Meanwhile, Qui Gon Jinn, played with perfect serenity, spirituality, and facial hair by Liam Neeson, is one of the most underrated characters in "Star Wars." He is the quintessential Jedi, his longing for peace and calm is exemplified when he kneels and meditates in a pause in battle with Maul in the Duel of the Fates.</p><p>Qui Gon's  impact is felt across the rest of the "Star Wars" movies - Kanan Jarrus in "Rebels" has more than a hint of Qui Gon about him. And Qui Gon, let's not forget, is the one who found the boy who would become Darth Vader. </p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Fnbf1E3YTxg" frameborder="0"></iframe><h2>Disney's sequel trilogy are meringue movies - they look good but there's no substance</h2><p>The Duel of the Fates battle between Obi-Wan and Qui Gon and Maul features two Jedi knights at their peak fighting a Sith lord, and the dazzling style of lightsaber combat is riveting to watch.</p><p>But in "Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian," Dave Filoni, co-creator of "Rebels" and producer and director of "The Clone Wars" and "The Mandalorian," explains why this fight is so much more than a flashy spectacle.</p><p>Filoni said: "He's fighting for Anakin. Conversely, consequences feel light in Disney's movies. It's a tired criticism by now but Rey, who has never held a lightsaber before, manages to beat fully-trained Sith lord Kylo Ren in a duel. This betrays the nature of "Star Wars," where skill in combat has always been crucial. The new trilogy doesn't follow the universe's rules that Lucas' movies lovingly follow to create a believable, immersive, and meaningful story.</p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/c85KaDSMIRM" frameborder="0"></iframe><p>This is why "The Phantom Menace" is so underrated. It's taken for its surface-level flaws when it has so much more to offer.</p><p>Disney's sequel trilogy are meringue movies. They are well made and look good, and are certainly more polished than the prequel series, but they are ultimately lightweight and empty.</p><p>But "The Phantom Menace" is one of the most important and thoughtful slices of "Star Wars" we've ever been given, and not even Jar Jar Binks can stand in the way of that.</p>

But this is not what PM <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> plans to discuss with his French counterpart. In fact, PM Modi plans to have a discussion around culture, heritage and history reveals an Economic Times report. The financial daily mentions that Modi’s agenda of discussion in <keyword id="106" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Paris">Paris</keyword> includes an agreement to pair national monuments and heritage sites - possibly starting with New Delhi's imposing India Gate and the Arc de Triomphe in the heart of the French capital.<br />
<br /> The agreement that India and <keyword id="6354785" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="France">France</keyword> are expected to sign to 'twin' iconic structures and monuments, based on similarities they share, may include as many as six pairings and are aimed at strengthening the cultural links between the two countries, officials from the Ministry of Culture and the Archaeological Survey of India told the ET.<br />

The modalities of arrangement will be worked out later by the governments and associated bodies such as ASI and its counterpart in France. The ideas being discussed include putting up plaques at the monuments to generate awareness about their foreign twins and to have imprints of both structures on tickets and publicity brochures. India Gate and the Arc de Triomphe have many similarities that make them ideal as paired monuments.<br />

The similarity between the two monuments includes triumphal arches built to commemorate unknown soldiers who laid down their lives for the country, are located in the capital and revered as patriotic sites. The financial daily also said, the 42 metre high India Gate commemorates the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army during World War I, while the Arc de Triomphe, at 49.5 metres, stands at the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle in honour of those who fought for France, especially during the Napoleonic Wars. The names of soldiers are engraved on both structures.<br />
<br />
If all goes well, Jaisalmer Fort in Rajasthan may also be linked to Carcassonne in France.<br />
<br />
The Basilica of Bom Jesus in Goa is proposed to be twinned with the Chartres Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Chartres. Both are Catholic churches and key pilgrim centres. Other sites that could be linked are the prehistoric rock shelters of Bhimbetka in MP with the Lascaux Caves in southwestern France, famous for Palaeolithic cave paintings.<br />
<br />
New Delhi's Lodi Gardens could be linked with the Jardin des Tuileries - both much-frequented and loved public parks in the capital cities. There is also a plan to link Mysore Palace with a Chateau in France. India and France are also expected to collaborate on preventive and underwater archaeology, training of personnel and joint research.<br />

Jordan elevates the movie from good to great.</strong></li></ul><hr><p><br>Like "Wonder Woman" last year, "Black Panther" is a project that fans have been waiting decades to see. And just like "Wonder Woman," it was worth the wait.</br></p><p>The latest superhero movie brought into Marvel's MCU may be its most meaningful yet. In a time when audiences want different stories told by (and focused on) people who rarely get the spotlight, "Black Panther" comes at the perfect time.</p><p>Director Ryan Coogler - who showed with "Creed" that he could work within the confines of an existing franchise and still give us something special - uses the tools and resources that come with Marvel Studios to build out a movie that isn't just filled with action (and sometimes has a Bond film vibe), but also brings the audience on an emotional journey about family and community.</p><p>We meet up with T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) following the death of his father (which happened in "Captain America: Civil War") and his return to Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. Immediately, we are thrust into the beauty, technology, and heritage that is Wakanda, a nation located in Africa that Black Panther rules over, and is technologically advanced due to the use of a special material called Vibranium.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5a79ceedb06a792b008b48a3-1080/eubpanshowcasegl1rb8483aa2.jpg" alt="Black Panther" data-mce-source="Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures"><p class="source"><span>Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures</span></p><p class="caption">(L-R) Michael B. Should he let his kingdom be more open to the outside world? It's something he ponders until he learns that Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis), now sporting an arm cannon since "Age of Ultron," is causing trouble with the Vibranium he possesses. When T'Challa investigates with his new and improved Black Panther suit, it's revealed that Klaue has teamed with Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), who has a shocking backstory related to T'Challa and his family that could affect everything T'Challa is trying to do.<p>Honestly, there are moments in this movie that get really deep. This is far from a Marvel movie with constant action. There's a solid story in "Black Panther" (written by Coogler and Joe Robert Cole), which might get tiresome for some audiences. But what it does is help with delving into the story arc of Killmonger, and bolsters Jordan's standout villain performance.</p><p>Jordan plays a Killmonger fueled with hate and emptiness - we won't give away why - but he also delivers it with a swagger that's just a joy to watch. The movie takes off more in story and viewing enjoyment whenever Jordan is on screen.</p><p>Perhaps the biggest strength of "Black Panther" is its character development. This is particularly true for T'Challa's sassy sister/tech wiz Shuri (Letitia Wright), and the head of his royal guard, Okoye (Danai Gurira), who are major scene-stealers.</p><p>Lupita Nyong'o, Daniel Kaluuya, Martin Freeman, Forest Whitaker, and a small (but important) role for Sterling K. 'Black Panther' is the rare Marvel movie that makes you care about the villain - and Michael B. Jordan delivers an incredible performance

Cage has snuck away to Harlem and is laying low as a barbershop sweeper and a dishwasher at a Harlem nightclub.</p><p>The first episode of "Luke Cage" is a bit slow. There's a bunch of set up to get Cage back up on his feet after drawing a lot of attention to himself in "Jessica Jones." <span>Cage just wants to live a normal life, but he soon has to accept that he's just not a normal guy. </span></p><p>He finds a mentor and father figure in a barbershop owner who's known around town as "Pops." There's enough intrigue and stellar performances from the cast that it pays off in episode two. (How many times are the bad guys going to continually try to shoot a bulletproof man? We get it. Cage is impervious to bullets. He goes through a lot of clothes.)</p><p>For anyone who has been following the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are a few very noticeable nods to the Avengers. Seven episodes in, I'm still crossing my fingers for some other cameos.
