Reports suggest that only around 100 tickets were sold for ‘Sarfira’ in Hyderabad on the first day. Not only was this his lowest opening film in 15 years, but industry tracker Sacnilk estimates Sarfira managed only Rs 1.25 crore on Day 7 yesterday, a mere blip in its overall earnings. The film's week one total stands at a modest Rs 18.8 crore net in India. This puts it slightly ahead of Akshay's recent remake "Selfiee," but a far cry from his past box office dominance. <h2>A string of flops </h2>Sarfira is hardly the lone black mark on his career, his rap sheet is filled with smears of other recent setbacks like Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Raksha Bandhan and Ram Setu, to name a few. Despite being announced as his comeback, the Akshay and Tiger Shroff starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan failed to make any waves. As per his fans, this is hardly surprising considering he’s been pushing out roughly 5 movies every year and there is no newness to the roles he’s been picking. <keyword id="20235508" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Khiladi-Kumar" source="keywords">Khiladi Kumar</keyword> is known to wrap up entire film shoots in a matter of 30-60 days, and critics have long complained that one cannot expect substance when the script and performances are so rushed. The actor has been releasing remakes left, right and centre and seems to be agreeing to every script coming his way — almost in a frenzy, like he’s unaware of his star-power. The other theory making rounds is that since Akshay was able to recover after a string of 14 consecutive flops earlier in his career, he thinks he will get over this slump by just doing what he’s been doing, too! But as much as we love Mrs Funny Bones, this ruse has gone on for way too long, and we want the old comedy Kumar back. Most experts think that a brief break could do wonders for Akshay’s career, it certainly worked with his other contemporaries like Shah Rukh Khan. And after he’s back, maybe we could have more comedies like Hera Pheri — because nothing embodies the brand that is Akshay Kumar more. His upcoming film Khel Khel Mein has also failed to generate any meaningful buzz so far a month prior to its release. However, we may need to wait and see if it manages to make a dent in this long and painful phase. For now, Welcome 3 is also in the works (we don’t blame you for not remembering a Welcome 2, because we don’t either), giving fans some hope for a hit at the end of this year. But Nana Patekar has already said that he won’t be a part of the film because it didn’t have a story. So, is this the end of Akshay Kumar's box office reign?  PM CARES donations from sportsmen From the sporting arena, Indian cricketer Suresh Raina is donating ₹52 lakh but only ₹31 lakh is going towards the PM-CARES fund. The other ₹21 lakh is going to Raina’s home state, Uttar Pradesh, towards the chief minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. "That's a brilliant fifty," Modi responded to Raina's contribution.  Pledge campaigns for donations to PM CARES Organisations like PhonePe and Motiwal Oswal are also doing their part during this time of crisis. The online payments platform PhonePe has launched a ₹100 crore pledge campaign in which they will add ₹10 to everyone’s donation.  The ayurvedic consumer goods company Patanjali, founded by Baba Ramdev, has given ₹25 crore to the PM CARES Fund and set up five quarantine centers for those who have testing positive for Coronavirus. Indian tech giant Infosys, will be donating ₹100 crore through the Infosys Foundation, the company's arm for philanthropic efforts. Branches of government doing their part National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials are putting up one day's salary towards PM CARES. Coal India Limited (CIL) has pledged ₹220 crore and NLC India has promised ₹25 crore. All of Indian Railway's employees have pledged one day's salary to the newly-formed Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) Fund, according to union minister Piyush Goyal. Collectively, the contribution will amount to ₹151 crore from Indian Railways Ministry. <img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/47830635.cms" />June is at the fag end and we almost have a mid-year report card of Bollywood. Though the year started on a dismal note, it picked up towards May and June. 
 
This year, January was like a drought month and even movies starring big names did not interest the audience. As Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha starrer-'Tevar'- failed to take off, even the Horrex (horror + sex) formula did not work out for ‘Alone’ and ‘Khamoshiyan’. 
 
Other movies that released in January and failed to make a mark included Sonam Kapoor-starrer ‘Dolly Ki Doli’, 'Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene', ‘Crazy Cukkad Family’, ‘Hawaizaada’ among others. 
 
The only respite that the Bollywood lovers got was from Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’, which also became the first movie of 2015 to enter the Rs 100 crore club. 
 
But the jinx did not end in January as February continued to bring more bad news for the industry. 
 
The big shocker came in the form of ‘Shamitabh’. The movie, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush, was directed by R Balki, the maker who has given us movies like Pa and Cheeni Kum. 
 
Later in the month, ‘Roy’ released, which recorded a good start but by weekend the movie fizzled out. Most trade pundits pegged the crucial India-Pakistan match at the World Cup as the reason for the drop of sales on Sunday but the movie could not recover much post this phase also because of negative word of mouth. 
 
Thankfully, later in the same month we had movies like ‘Badlapur’ and ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’. Both managed to gather decent collections at the Box Office. In fact, ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ was a complete surprise package and managed to pull crowds even in its third week . 
 
March threw a mixed bag as Anushka Sharma starrer 'NH-10' received critical acclaim. April again was a dry month as Bollywood had nothing to offer that could have clicked with the Bolly buffs. 
 
However, Bollywood saw a turnaround in May. It started on a high note with Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Gabbar is Back’, which went to collect Rs 86.55 crore at the Box Office. This was followed by Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan’s 'Piku', which struck a right chord with the audience and collected Rs 111 crore worldwide. 
 
Later in the month, Kangana Ranaut wowed the audience with her spectacular acting in ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’. As per reports, the movie managed to collect Rs 190.87 crore worldwide. Given that the movie was made with Rs 31 crore budget, it stood out and is the most profitable movie of 2015 till date. 
 
But, the disappointment came from ‘Bombay Velvet’. Everybody had high hopes from Ranbir Kapoor’s flick but it fell flat. 
 
The momentum seems to continue with ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ and ‘ABCD 2’. ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ has managed Rs 37.05 crore in the first weekend and is holding the fort well. Also ABCD 2, sequel of ABCD, managed to get the biggest opening for 2015 and continues to do a good business over the week. 
 
The later half will see a slew of big- starrer movies such as Salman Khan starrer ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, Vikas Bahl of Queen fame’s ‘Shaandaar’, ‘Singh is Bling’ featuring Akshay Kumar, Nikhil Advani’s ‘Katti Batti’, Aishwarya Rai’s comeback movie ‘Jazbaa’ and also ‘Dilwale’ in which fans will see Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol paired together. In addition, there will also be a third installment of ‘Hate Story’, ‘Hera Pheri’ and ‘Kya Kool Hai Hum’ to look forward to. 
 
Commenting on the movie sentiment of 2015, Komal Nahata, Trade Analyst shared, “It has been a good 2015 so far. Sure there were some upsets in the start of the year but May has been extremely kind and the rest of the year looks really promising." 
 
We hope that the forthcoming movies get the cash ringer buzzing for Bollywood and we continue to see some entertaining movies in the latter half of the year.
