Union Civil Aviation Minister <keyword id="29632" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jyotiraditya-scindia" source="Orion">Jyotiraditya Scindia</keyword> on Wednesday said that 200-220 more airports, heliports and water aerodromes will be built in the country over the next five years. The union minister was addressing media persons in the national capital while highlighting the work done by the aviation sector in the last nine years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. <keyword id="24899" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="scindia" source="Orion">Scindia</keyword> said, "Whatever the governments have done in the past 68 years, the Modi government has done it in the 9 years. The number has reached from 74 to 148. We aim to make in 200-220 in the next five years including heliports and water aerodromes". He added that eight airports have been built in the northeast part of the country. "There were some states in the region where there were no airports but today, Arunachal Pradesh has three new airports, Sikkim also has an airport now," Scindia said. The minister spoke on the metro capacity, "We currently have six large metros (Bombay, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata). The capacity of these metros is 22 crores. The target is to double the capacity of these six metros, including Jevar and <keyword id="57321" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="navi-mumbai" source="Orion">Navi Mumbai</keyword>, in the next eight years". India aims to have 200-220 more airports, heliports and water aerodromes in next 5 years

After a long delay, finally India is unveiling its first <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=heliport&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">heliport</a> in Rohini area of New Delhi. 
 
The dedicated heliport, owned by<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=pawan+hans&amp;sortorder=effectivedate"> Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd</a> (PHHL), will carry passengers from Delhi to nearby areas. The heliport is a 100-crore project and will be integrated one with a chopper maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) unit. 
 
Aviation secretary R N Choubey said the Rs 100-crore project will be inaugurated on February 28 and will be an integrated one with a chopper maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) unit part of the complex at Rohini. 
 
The heliport will have parking bays, AC passenger terminal building and car parking area for the flyers. 
 
"Being a busy airport,<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=igi+airport&amp;sortorder=effectivedate"> IGI airport</a> does not have much space for helicopter movement. The Rohini one will be a dedicated heliport and will make chopper movement much easier," said Choubey. 
 
"To promote regional air connectivity, Pawan Hans has also prepared a roadmap to connect all the major destinations from this heliport such as Delhi to Shimla, Haridwar, Dehradun, Mathura, Agra, Meerut and industrial hubs such as Manesar, Bahadurgarh etc," Pawan Hans had stated.

That may well be true with China changing tactics and doubling down on building military infrastructure along the border. Not only has this increased the number of friction points between two of the largest countries in the world, but it has also forced New Delhi to rethink its take on the issue of national security, according to security and military analyst Sim Tack’s report in <a href="https://worldview.stratfor.com/article/military-drive-spells-out-chinas-intent-along-indian-border">Stratfor.</a> After fresh tensions sparked in May, China initiated the construction of four heliports. But, this is only the latest tranche of its military infrastructure. China’s military posturing has been the works for a while India’s Asian neighbor has been doubling down on the number of air bases, air defence positions, and heliports on its side of the shared border since the 2017 Dokhlam standoff. Tack <a href="https://worldview.stratfor.com/article/military-drive-spells-out-chinas-intent-along-indian-border">estimates </a>that China has started building up at least 13 new military positions after the clash. According to the Stratfor report, China’s developments ‘long term developments’ indicated its future intent to ram up ‘Chinese assertive military posturing in border disputes with India’ — not unlike what it’s already doing in the South China Sea. “China’s strategy aims to confront India with an insurmountable challenge in territorial disputes by leaning on broad support capabilities that provide Beijing with a tremendous ability to mobilise forces into disputed border areas,” said the report. Even though the latest skirmishes are near Ladakh, the tensions along the India-China border are likely to drive future expansion of Indian military infrastructure. Especially in other regions like Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh as well. “By forcing India to respond in kind, China’s aggressive strategy is leading to a greater concentration of military assets in heavily disputed areas along the border that could raise the risk of potential escalations and sustained conflict,” warned the report. China is reportedly expanding and upgrading a large number of military facilities along the border with India

New Delhi, Jan 31 () Indian aviation sector "re-established" its resilience this fiscal despite a large airline suspending operations and the government has been providing a congenial environment so that airlines can have more than 1,200 planes by 2023-24, according to the Economic Survey.
 India is the world's third largest domestic market for civil aviation and has 136 Airports Authority of India (AAI)-managed airports as well as six aerodromes under public private partnerships, it said.
In recent times, domestic traffic growth had faced headwinds.
The Survey for 2019-20, tabled in Parliament on Friday, also said airlines operators in the country have scaled up their aircraft seat capacity from an estimated 0.07 annual seats per capita in 2013 to 0.12 in 2018.
 "Indian aviation re-established its resilience in the year 2019-20. Despite a large airline suspending operations on April 17, 2019, the sector swiftly sprung back to fill the void created in passenger and air cargo capacity," it said.
 After flying for more than 25 years, full-service carrier Jet Airways shuttered operations in April last year as it ran out of funds. The closure had a significant impact in the sector, including lower capacity to meet higher passenger demand.
 To ease the strain on existing airport capacities, 100 more are to be made operational by FY 2023-24. Besides using 46 idle airstrips, 16 private greenfield airports, 15 AAI airports, 31 heliports, and 12 waterdromes would also be developed, as per the Survey.
 As many as five new airports, including at Kannur in Kerala and Shirdi in Maharashtra, were operationalised this fiscal.
 "To continue with the high growth trajectory, the government has been providing a congenial environment so that the Indian carriers double their fleet from about 680 aircraft at the close of November 2019 to over 1,200 by FY 2023-24," the Survey said.
 The fleet refers to those of scheduled airlines.
 According to the Survey, high growth would continue by way of easing leasing and financing from Indian shores, efficient use of air traffic rights, encouraging domestic and international passenger and goods transfers, and rationalising the tax regime.
 "Capacity utilisation is also being augmented by way of automation at airports. Overall objective is to meet the growing demand and set global best practices and performance quality standards," it added. RAM RAM ANU

A high-school graduate running an engineering workshop has built a working chopper in the backyard of his <keyword id="6385572" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kottayam">Kottayam</keyword> home. 
 
D Sadasivan (54) was requested by his daughter’s school principal to make a model of a chopper to be displayed in front of kids at the school. However, he decided to go one step ahead and build a fully-operational one.

In the chopper, Sadasivan used the engine of a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/No-car-company-produces-as-many-cars-as-this-Indian-company-does/articleshow/47248716.cms">Maruti 800</a>, glass of an autorickshaw as the windscreen, and a reduction gear box used for industrial purpose, while making rest of the parts at his workshop in Kanjirappally.

"The chopper's interior is made of iron and the exterior of aluminium," he added. 
 
The chopper took four years to be built, and would be ready to fly in a month's time.

"I need to get clearance from various agencies for permission to fly. However, before that I can fly the chopper within the limits of the property I own," he said.
