But what does this mean for Indian companies and consumers? What is this jazz about premiumization all about? Is it just urban India that’s riding this wave, or has rural India also joined the bandwagon? We decode for you. <h2>What's premium, really?</h2>Imagine you’re eating Pav Bhaji at a roadside thela. Later during the day, you decide to dine out at a fancy, upmarket cafe, only to find Pav Bhaji Fondue on the menu. Same same, but much more expensive—often 5 to 10 times higher—for a little more hygiene and some better ambience! Think of <keyword id="378381" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="premium-products" source="Orion">premium products</keyword> as this fondue. They are a notch up your regular, daily-use products soaps or shampoos, and even cars, all packaged luxuriously, offering just about the right touch of quality. Compared to the year-ago period, which saw sales of 80,662 units, this was an 18% dip. But take a look at their SUV (sport utility vehicle) sales for the same period. Cars like Brezza, Ertiga, and Grand Vitara sold about 70,644 units, a 19% uptick from the sales made in October 2023, i.e., 59,147 units. Simply put, when it comes to cars, Indians are saying the bigger, the better! The same is true for India's second biggest automobile manufacturer, Hyundai. Its SUV lineup made up a staggering 68.2% of the firm's total sales made for October 2024. What's more, SUV demand remained largely consistent across urban and rural markets. <h2>Consumers are inching up</h2>FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) are also riding the premiumization wave, with Indians prioritizing their health and wellness and not bothered about dishing out a few extra bucks for the same! You’ll find no dearth of words like organic, vegan, gluten-free, and sugar-free, peppered generously over every product you’ll see today, be it soaps, juices, or more. No wonder then, sales from premium segments in 2024 make up around 27% of all FMCG sales and even contribute a massive 42% to the sector’s value growth in India. The Nielsen report further adds that luxury brands that position themselves at twice the price of their category’s average are even witnessing stellar growth. And it's not just about daily-use products; Indians are also taking their celebrations a step over. Spirits manufacturer Radico Khaitan highlighted that for the first half of 2024, their prestige &amp; above segment made for 88.4% of its net sales value. In the same period, the regular popular segment accounted for just 9.1% of their net sales. From Hindustan Unilever, which saw its premium products grow 30% over the last quarter, to <keyword id="20521971" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kingfisher" source="keywords">Kingfisher</keyword> beer's parent company, United Breweries, whose premium product sales volume jumped by 27% during the quarter as opposed to just a 5% rise in overall volumes, everyone is seemingly taking their lifestyle a notch above. Per the Nielsen report, in 2024, a typical global consumer spends about $13.7k per year. This is set to grow by around 2.4% to $14k as early as next year. Even a report by Goldman Sachs also highlighted a similar trend, noting that India’s affluent class, or those earning over $10,000 (Rs 8,42,694.97), is set to reach 100 million in the next 3 years. And where will this consumer spend? On premium products! <h2>Online shopping shifts from mass to class</h2>Amazon’s Great Indian Shopping Festival, which was live between September 27 and October 29 this year, saw 140 crore customers, more than 85% of whom came from non-metro Indian cities. On the site, there was a 400% spike in sales in premium sales across categories like watches, fragrances, handbags, jewelry, and more. Rival Flipkart noted a similar trend, recording 1.8x growth in premium beauty and personal care products during the first half of this year. <h2>Dialing in premiumness</h2>The Indian smartphone ecosystem has always been dominated by basic phones, or those entry- and mid-range phones that are priced between Rs 10,000 and Rs 6,000. But that has changed in recent times, with premium smartphones (i.e., those priced over Rs 60,000) registering 20%+ growth in 2024. During the first quarter of this year, sales of mass phones (priced between Rs 10,000 and 20,000) reached 44%, compared to 51% in the year-ago period. But it's all sunny and shiny in the mid-premium (priced between Rs 40,000 and Rs 60,000) and super-premium segments (priced above Rs 60,000). Sales growth has burgeoned by as much as 27% and 86% in these categories, respectively. As India continues its march toward becoming the world's third-largest economy by 2027, the premium party is just getting started. The archipelago, of around 300 islands in the Indian Ocean, is a Union Territory of India, which if you look at the map seems closer to Thailand and Myanmar than to India. She tells Business Insider, not able to control her excitement, how she has never imagined experiencing such clean and untouched white sandy beaches in India. "I mean, you can expect such an experience in countries like the Philippines, but in India... my mind was blown,” she says. <div type="image" title="Elephant beach, Havelock" msid="81127084" hostid="261"></div> The picturesque white sandy beaches of the <keyword id="162996" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andaman-Islands">Andaman Islands</keyword> are not considered by most as an option for a beach vacation. And perhaps it is for the best, because as is the case with most popular tourist destinations, the more touristy they become, the more we expose the location to environmental risks. But if responsible tourism is your jam, and you do not mind paying a little more money for a truly magical experience, then the Andaman Islands is the place to visit. Dr. Vasireddy, along with a few friends, decided to ditch the idea of vacationing in Goa and chose a place where they can get away from it all — plus, there was the added advantage of the location being COVID-free. In fact, it was the first place in India with zero<a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/andaman-and-nicobar-islands-indias-first-to-be-covid-free/articleshow/80657352.cms"> active cases</a> as of 03 February 2021. Regardless of the fact, she was pleasantly surprised that people on the Island continue to take safety very seriously and said all the locals were wearing face masks. In case you forget to wear yours, they will politely inform you that if you don't, you will get 'challand’ (a challan). Please note that it is mandatory to present an RTPCR Covid negative test at <keyword id="107932" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PORT-BLAIR">Port Blair</keyword>. The authorities validate the test against the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) website. Only once the validity is confirmed do the officials stamp the document, and without this stamped paper, you will not be allowed to take the ferry to any of the Islands. Flights from all major cities of the country, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi, land at the capital Port Blair. <div type="image" title="Havelock Island" msid="81128095" hostid="261"></div> HAVELOCK ISLAND The island not only offers some stunning beaches, but it also has some of the top diving destinations in the country. It is an excellent place to learn deep-sea diving so that you can explore the underwater marvels. Havelock Island is one of the few places where inexperienced divers can try out a single dive instead of signing up for a full course. The water is teeming with tropical fish, sea turtles, stingrays and much more. It also has a healthy population of colourful live corals. The best part is that you don't need to be a swimmer to try scuba diving. The crystal blue waters are so clear that you can always opt for snorkelling if you want to skip scuba diving. There is also an excellent night kayaking expedition that takes you through the mangroves. The unreal experience of watching the water bioluminescence below and the sky filled stars above cannot be paralleled. <div type="image" title="scuba diving, Havelock" msid="81126940" hostid="261"></div> There is so much to see in Havelock that it is best to hire a bike or cycle. But we must warn you that while happily cruising on well-made tar roads you may land up literally nowhere. "Some (roads) took us to beaches and others just abruptly ended by fields or the forest," Dr. Vasireddy tells us. <div type="image" title="Roads leading to nowhere, Havelock" msid="81127015" hostid="261"></div> Beaches <keyword id="1578932" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Radhanagar-beach">Radhanagar Beach</keyword> (Beach No.7), Elephant Beach, and Vijaynagar Beach (Beach No.5) are some of the most well-known beaches in Havelock. Radhanagar beach is flanked by the ocean on one side and lush rainforest on the other. This west-facing beach is ideal for catching the sunset. You can also walk down to Neil's Cove, a secluded spot perfect for sunbathing and a spot for swimming in shallow water. <div type="image" title="Sunset at Havelock" msid="81127095" hostid="261"></div> Elephant beach may not be easy to get to, but the beauty of the place more than makes up for the effort. The beach features some bleached driftwood and logs that provide an excellent backdrop for a photo-op. This is also an ideal place to go snorkelling. Vijaynagar beach is where the buzz is. This is where most of the restaurants, hotels and snorkelling centres are situated. The beach faces east and is, therefore, a great place to catch the sunrise. However, because the water is shallow and strewn with rocks, swimming here is not the easiest. <div type="image" title="Red snapper grilled in lemon pepper sauce with rice and roasted potatoes" msid="81127169" hostid="261"></div> Food The local food, if idyllic surroundings are not enough, is usually a combination of Indian and continental cuisine that is absolutely delicious. Dr. Vasireddy recommends - Fat Martin's Cafe in Vijaynagar that serves south Indian food including a delicious Nutella dosa; Anju Coco that strangely enough serves the "best biriyani”; Something Different serves excellent continental seafood pizza and amazing desserts; Moonlight Cafe is great for seafood. The restaurants here are a seafood lovers paradise, serving up a fantastic variety of fresh red snappers, calamari, prawns, and so much more. That being said, there are plenty of vegetarian options too. Accommodation There are plenty of hotels to choose from high-end Taj Hotels to more affordable options like Wild Orchid, SilverSand Beach Resort, Munjoh Ocean Resort and Symphony Palms Beach Resort. The hotels are clean, and most are environmentally conscious. Most hotels and restaurants on the Island provide only RO water and not plastic bottles, as is sadly the norm elsewhere. And if you choose to buy water, the local stores have nothing smaller than 2-litre bottles to reduce the amount of plastic used. <div type="image" title="Bambooka, the government ferry" msid="81127801" hostid="261"></div> How to get there From Port Blair, the best way to get to Havelock is by ferry. The government ferry from Port Blair to Havelock takes around 2.5 hours but please note that the outside deck area has no seating, so you will have to bring something to place on the floor to sit on. The booking process is slightly cumbersome, but you can get a travel agent to take care of everything, which will still be cheaper than private options. MV Makruzz and Coastal Cruise are the private companies that ferry people across to the Island. They take around 1.5 hours to get to Havelock. Connectivity If you are hankering for some serious digital detox there is no better place than Havelock. There is limited to no connectivity on the island. BSNL is the only cellular service that works but the network is patchy. Hotels usually provide wi-fi access, but most are limited to the lobby area. <div type="image" title="Port Blair" msid="81127917" hostid="261"></div> PORT BLAIR While Andaman and Nicobar Islands' capital may not seem all that appealing as a tourism destination, there are plenty of places you can visit while here. There is a high probability of you spending the night there since the ferries to the islands do not operate at night. So depending on your flight timing, chances are, one way or the other you will have to stay in Port Blair. If you opt to stay in Port Blair, <keyword id="10800405" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chidiya-Tapu">Chidiya Tapu</keyword> (Bird Island) is an excellent place to explore. The area offers some fabulous diving spots, including Mundapahad, ideal for beginners and the old shipwreck, a site for advanced divers and home to clownfish, schooling snapper, resting ray and lots of colourful corals. If you want to give the water a break, the place is an excellent spot for birdwatching. The mangroves and rainforests here play host to a bunch of migratory birds and flowers. You can also hike to Mundapahad lighthouse. Pop-Up Hut, amidst the hustle-bustle of India’s financial capital Mumbai, comes as a refreshing change. The hidden eating joint from the outside looks like a regular cafe, but once inside, Pop- UP Hut reveals many surprises. 
 
For starters, Pop- Up Hut, launched by Sanjana Sanghi, has a unique concept-the menu here changes every month. That’s right, there is nothing called as fixed menu here and it changes every month depending on the season and food trends. 
 
So, for instance if you are having a Kiwi-flavoured, hand-made ice-cream here today, next month it will be gone. 
 
Sanjana, 23, brought this kind of concept to Mumbai to give the city a feel of South-East Asian food culture. 
 
“This is a very new concept in South Mumbai. Before introducing Pop-Up Hut, I researched a lot about food here and came to a conclusion that international food trends required more exposure here. I wanted to get the New York-like food craze. This is a very cosy place and is becoming a den for youngster s,” said Sanjana. 
 
 
 
So, how does she decide on the menu? “Right now, it’s all about weather. It is quite hot in Mumbai, so we have hand-made ice-creams, live ice-cream rolls prepared by IFRUIT. During monsoons, we will introduce something which is hot and brightens the mood. When it becomes little chilly here, we will introduce food that will have cheese in it. We will soon keep healthy pop up too,” said Sanjana. 
 
 
 
Another interesting thing about Pop-Up Hut is budding chefs, who for some reason cannot open their own cafes or restaurants, can come here and prepare their own cuisines. 
 
Since the entire menu changes every month, budding chefs and culinary experts can come at Pop-Up Hut and satiate the taste bud of food lovers. 
 
Sanjana, who owes it all to her mother, said chefs can contact them through social media or just drop in it at the Pop-Up Hut and tie up with them for a month. 
 
Apart from the interesting food choices, Pop-Up Hut also has an interesting decor, which is quite familiar with alleys of London. 
 
The walls are filled with quotes on food with fairy lights stepping up the look and feel. 
 
“The decor is quirky and classy, both. From outside, no one can judge how intriguing its interiors are. We have neon lights, fairy lights and seating arrangement is also as per youth feel,” said Sanjana.

Latent View IPO that got bigger traction than Paras Defence may list on a positive note despite a weak market

New Delhi, Dec 11 () Diversified conglomerate ITC is looking to garner up to 20 per cent of the Rs 7,400-crore frozen food market in India in next three years with the firm expanding its offering in the category, a senior company official said on Wednesday.
 The company, which has recently made a foray into the frozen food segment under ITC Master Chef brand targeting both retail and food services players, is also planning to expand its reach to over 30 cities in the retail segment and 100 cities in food services segment during the period.
 "Currently, the frozen foods market in India is about Rs 7,400 crore and it is growing at about 17 per cent annually...Our intention is to explode the category. We are doubling our volumes. Our growth rate is about 6-7 times the industry growth," ITC Chief Executive - Frozen Snacks, Fruits and Vegetables Sachid Madan told here.
 He said the company's growth in the category will be on the back of expansion of the range that it is offering and "also because of the fact that we are offering freshly frozen food with no preservatives and can be cooked in multiple ways".
 "We are in both (vegetarian and non-vegetarian) segments and we are beyond even chicken. In the categories in the market that we are present, we are aiming at 15-20 per cent share over the next three-odd years as we establish our distribution," Madan said.
 ITC will be the third major organised player in the frozen food segment after McCain, which is mainly in the vegetarian segment and Venky's, which is in non-vegetarian, he added.
 At present, depending on outlets and range, ITC's current market share will vary from 5-15 per cent in the segment.
 "The market is very small compared to its potential. The idea is if it is growing at 17 per cent how can we accelerate it? When we are growing at 100 per cent, it will definitely grow," he said.
 The company has introduced over 50 different frozen food products under ITC Master Chef brand. These include a variety of Indian flavours such as 'Mumbai Vada Pops', 'Rajmah ki Galauti', 'Chicken Galauti', 'Falafel Kebab', 'Achari Beetroot Kebab', among others.
 Madan said,"These items are now available in 60 cities under the food service portfolio and 11 cities in retail outlets. In the next three years 60 will go to 100 and beyond and 11 will go to about 30."
 The focus is on expanding penetration of the category and dispel the myth about frozen foods not being healthy in consumers' mind, he said.
 To begin with, the company is looking at metros and urban areas for these products but these will also be made widely available to consumers and food services segment, including restaurants, cafes and pubs across India, including tier II and III cities, he added.
 ITC has partnered with American firm OSI and is utilising the latter's manufacturing facilities in India to produce these items.

Excerpts: Q) We are living in unprecedented times today. How challenging were the initial lockdown days for Bisleri as a brand? The initial stage of the lockdown was quite challenging as processes related to operating permissions for factories, passes for people and finished goods movement were being put into place. It was a time that tested the resilience of the supply chain, distribution network and our ability to adapt and respond dynamically to constraints that were evolving almost on a daily basis. We transitioned to a remote working environment in offices, and yet had to keep our operations running strong. We worked closely with all stakeholders to sustain production and distribution despite constraints. In many states, the Government officials were helpful in facilitating permissions considering that we were classified in the essential services. In spite of all the challenges, the supplies were maintained across all markets, and we ensured consumers had access to safe mineral water. Our sales teams took appropriate safety precautions, braved the risks and delivered Bisleri mineral water to the doorsteps of consumers. Q) Is your supply chain up and running completely? Yes absolutely. In fact we have streamlined our supply chain in response to the growing at home demand for mineral water and other fruit based fizzy drinks. We understood the challenges consumers were facing on ground on account of lockdown and enhanced our servicing ability through direct home delivery. We are working hand-in-hand with our distribution partners who have supported us despite immense challenges on ground. We are connecting with consumers through digital platforms and are facilitating supply even in those locations with travel constraints or are even within containment zones. Most importantly, Bisleri has over 135 manufacturing plants across the country which enables us to service our consumers across all parts of the country. Q) What kind of business impact has the lockdown had on Bisleri? Is there a hope of recovering this year? The segments that are mainly affected are those related to ‘Out of home consumption’ – Horeca, Offices, Entertainment &amp; Travel which contributes a significant share of our business. Offices and shops will gradually start to open up but will take time to become fully active. However, there has been a clear surge in the consumption of mineral water at homes, and this is primarily led by the large packs. Q) People will now be doubly more cognizant about hygiene. How are you making your factories and thereby your products safer? The hygiene and safety norms at our manufacturing units were always in place. Our production and packaging is completely contactless and our mineral water goes through 10 Step Quality Process &amp; 114 tests to ensure that every consumer receives the same pure, safe and healthy drinking water. In light of Covid we have put additional safety procedures at our manufacturing facilities including ozone tunnels for disinfecting employees in the light of COVID. All distribution vehicles are washed externally with soap &amp; sprayed internally with IPA to sanitize after each trip. Q) As a leader, what were your learnings from this time? Kanoi feels that customers will appreciate good tea if they can make it at home and see the difference in their lifestyle instead of visiting a cafe once in awhile and treating it like a novelty. Blending In I tried blending my own tea at their outlet in Modern Bazaar, Select Citywalk where Kanoi helped me create a ‘blend’ of different teas like Green tea, Rose flowers and cinnamon. I also made iced tea with the tea and learnt how long I should seep different teas for the right flavour strength. The Tea Trove also has customized blends for different ailments like stomach upset, diabetes, joint pain, menstrual pain and high blood pressure. Fast forward a year later and that very office is now ready. 
 Located on the seventh floor of the <keyword id="3381278" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="One-BKC-Building">One BKC Building</keyword>, a commercial tower controlled by Radius developers, this office will serve as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Facebook&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Facebook</a>’s permanent base in India. 
 
Not only will the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Facebook&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Facebook</a> India leadership operate out of here, but also its sales and marketing teams. Since the last two years, <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword> India was temporarily operating out of a business centre in Bandra Kurla Complex. 
 
As it happened, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Facebook&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Facebook</a> team moved into their new office just yesterday and let Business Insider have a look inside. 
 
 
 
 
Ofcourse, there’s a mandatory Facebook wall at the entry and the whole office has an unfinished warehouse look which is part of the perpetually-work-in-progress theme that Facebook uses for its offices around the world. 
 
Moreover, the Instabooth is a cute addition to the whole decor of Facebook's new Mumbai office. The company brought in a local artist for all the murals that can be seen inside the office. 
 
The whole office boasts of an open area seating, with standing desks in plenty. The idea is to break the barriers that closed cabins come with and encourage creativity and productivity with informal seating. 
 
The office also offers the employees a gym allowance to promote a healthy lifestyle and also funds clubs if people are interested in a certain activity, such as reading or football. Additionally, the office cafe will not only whip up local Indian dishes but also healthy fare. 
 
 
 
P.S: This is not Facebook’s first office in the country. Their first office was in Hyderabad.

Last year, <a href="http://www.bamco.com/">Bon Appetit Management Company</a>, which <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/larry-ellison-wanted-a-sandwich-shop-at-oracle-2014-11">operates cafes</a> at Google, eBay, Oracle, and many other tech companies, opened a new Indian restaurant at the Googleplex. 
"It was in an old cafeteria that they had, and we wanted to change it up," Fedele Bauccio, CEO of Bon Appetit, said to Business Insider. "It's healthy, and the flavors are great." 
It's the first restaurant at Google to offer full service from a wait staff, and Googlers can make reservations for friends, family, or other team members. 
The decor at Cafe Baadal is cozy and colorful. Diners can sit on cushions at these corner tables.
