In May 2019, a paper.vc <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/curefit-raises-75-million-from-anand-piramal-accel-partners-and-others/articleshow/69215063.cms">report </a>said that the startup raised $75 million in the first tranche of the series D round. <keyword id="3465872" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="curefit">Curefit</keyword> was founded in 2016 by Myntra co-founder <keyword id="705865" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Bansal">Mukesh Bansal</keyword> and former Flipkart Chief Business Officer Ankit Nagori. It has fitness centres under the Cultfit brand and a health app called Curefit. It also has diagnostic centres called Carefit and yoga and meditation centres called mindfit. "Leveraging deep tech and strong on-ground network, we aspire to service over 100 million consumers over the next 10 years," said Bansal. In three years, the startup registered 4 lakh users for curefit, with 180 centres across Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Hyderabad. All these provide an annual revenue of $100 million. The company now plans to grow to 800 centres by 2020. The startup has also expanded its operations to Dubai. This recent round was led by Chiratae Ventures, Accel Partners, Kalaari Capital &amp; Oaktree Capital, while new investors like Epiq Capital, Unilever Ventures, Innoven Capital and Kotak Mahindra Bank too chipped in. Launched in 2011 by Prashant Tandon and Sameer Maheshwari, the startup also expanded to offline businesses in 2013. In 2015, Healthkart separated its drugstore business to start a different vertical – 1mg. While 1mg works as an e-retail platform for medicines, Healthkart offers nutrition products, protein supplements etc, online. Healthkart also runs its private label – Incredio – along with other popular brands on its platform. Healthkart, one of India’s first health e-tailer, raises $23 million

<ul><li><keyword id="7646" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="suniel-shetty">Suniel Shetty</keyword> has made a strategic investment in <keyword id="146382" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="squats">SQUATS</keyword>.</li><li>The three-year old startup which offers customized diet and <keyword id="18974" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="fitness">fitness</keyword> plans to its users.</li><li>It has also generated a cumulative revenue of $8.5 million over the years. </li></ul>Actor and entrepreneur Suniel Shetty has made yet another investment in the Indian startup industry. After his investment in the men’s grooming startup Beardo, Shetty has invested an undisclosed amount in online fitness community SQUATS. The startup was launched in 2016 and had started off as community on Facebook to tackle challenges in the fitness industry. And the now three-year old startup which offers customized diet and fitness plans to its users, has grown fast to have over 5,00,000 members. It has also generated a cumulative revenue of $8.5 million over the years. They have over 160 fitness consultants on board. And this is the first investment that the startup has scored. “In today’s time, when all kinds of false information about fitness is common, there is a critical need for companies like SQUATS, which address the issues of trust and credibility in the Indian fitness space, focusing on ‘balancing quantified nutrition with weight training’ and delivering exceptional results,” Shetty said about his investment. The startup which was bootstrapped until now will work on its underlying technological framework, strengthen its team, and expand its pan-India operations. Interestingly, around 30% of the startup’s clientele are already NRIs. The startup also has a mobile app called FITTR. The founder Jitendra Chouksey now plans to reach out to at least 50 million users. Suniel Shetty makes another bet on the Indian startup industry – invests in fitness startup SQUATS

Many professionals who were previously working in big firms and companies abroad are leaving their lucrative jobs to start their own venture in India. As per <a href="http://www.iamwire.com/2015/10/nasscom-startup-ecosystem-report-2015-india-the-next-tech-hotbed/124497">NASSCOM Startup Ecosystem Report 2015</a>, India stands third in the world, in terms of number of <keyword id="6362513" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startups">startups</keyword> in the country. By the end of last year, India witnessed a staggering 40% growth in the startup ecosystem. 
 
However, the competition is cutting edge and sustaining in a fast pacing market comes with a set of challenges. While, you may have a great business idea with immense potential, for that idea to turn into a reality is a totally different ball game. What you need is the backing of team of talented resources who can live and feel the dream and vision you have for your company.

Neeraj Joshi, CEO of Thingsmeet Solutions, zeroed down on <keyword id="2094" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Pune">Pune</keyword> when he first decided to set up a health-tech venture, not only because of the time he had spent in the city as the centre head for Infosys or his network of contacts there. Another huge reason behind his choice of place was the easy availability of the kind of talent that he wanted. 
 
"A lot of tech companies like Infosys and Syntel have their healthcare vertical headquartered here, so there is a lot of talent available," Joshi told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/pune-is-new-hub-for-health-tech-startups/articleshow/53201409.cms">ET</a>. "Also institutes like Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences and Ashtang Ayurveda ensure access to experts with domain knowledge and expertise." 
 
It was only last month that Govin Capital, headquartered in Singapore, announced a health-tech accelerator in Pune, with its CEO Anand Govindaluri saying, "Pune has the best start-up ecosystem because of the natural presence of good medical, engineering and management schools. There is a natural flow of talent that is automatically attracted to Pune, and so identifying management teams for start-ups with diverse backgrounds is also easier." 
 Pune has seen a lot of <keyword id="3492724" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="health-tech-start-ups">health-tech start-ups</keyword> rising in the past few years, with companies like Medsonway, which delivers medicines, Docplexus, a doctor's network, Allizhealth, which lets you store your health data, and Medifee, which provides pricing information on tests and hospital procedures, all being founded here. 
 
"There is a lot of noise in other cities; we wanted to do our groundwork and Pune provided the best environment to do that and stay under the radar. Pune lacks investor attention, but its better this way - it helps companies focus on the basics and bootstrap. Investors will get involved only when they really want to invest," said Abhijit Gupta, CEO of Praxify Technologies. 
 
However, Anurav Rane, CEO of Planmymedicaltrip.com, a medical tourism portal, says that the lack of access to investors is a major problem when it comes to Pune. 
 
"Pune is a technology hub but the start-up ecosystem needs to improve. What works for it, however, are factors like proximity to Mumbai, and for us, a large out of-town population of students and professionals, which helps create demand for our services," he said. 
 
Abhimanyu Bhosale, CEO of Live Health, is of the opinion that along with easy access to talent because of the educational and tech presence that Pune offers, several other factors like the quality of life and cost of living also make Pune substantial. 
 
"The high cost of talent in other cities like Bengaluru can make it difficult to find the right people if you are a start-up. Though Pune lacks investor support, it's not as commercialised, making it easier to manage the cost of operations, management and travel," he added.

I am hopeful that the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Union+Budget">Union Budget</a> will keep up the good work set in motion by the ‘<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Startup+India+Stand+up+India">Start Up India, Stand Up India</a>’ initiative. 2015 was an exciting year for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startups">startups</a>. There has been phenomenal growth, and incredible excitement (and investments) into ideas. Ideas that could potentially solve some of the most serious problems India has – from transportation to healthcare. From financial inclusion to advanced robotics and more. The last 6 months in particular have seen big focus on <keyword id="6362513" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Startups">startups</keyword> from the government as well with Prime Minister Modi’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Startup+India+Stand+up+India">Startup India Stand up India</a> being the watershed moment. So clearly, aggressively pushing <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startups">startups</a> and making it easier for them to start and painless for them to scale is critical for a strong, thriving economy that wants to grow at 10%. I think at an industry level the following things need to be done to enable growth. 
 
Firstly, we need to see more clarity on the next steps that detail out disbursement and get startups access to the fund of funds for start-ups. This would definitely encourage the promising <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=entrepreneur">entrepreneur</a> community in India. The need of the hour is to improve the<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=+Infrastructure"> Infrastructure</a> in the country and make much faster progress in connecting everyone and bringing them online. We need to take concrete steps to pick up the pace here and at least meet the targets set within the programs themselves. 
 
Another area that could help start-ups grow is greater clarity and sharper differentiation between goods and services, this would be very helpful to clear up the TDS requirements on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=app+downloads">app downloads</a> and TDS for software sales. The road map to GST in the upcoming budget will go a long way in both increasing the ease of doing business and reducing the cost of doing business. We expect the government to simplify tax regime for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startups">startups</a> to foster innovation and create conducive ecosystem for entrepreneurs in the country. While tax holiday certainly brings a sigh of relief, it may not be beneficial for many technology startups who do not make profits in initial years of their commencement. A longer tax break time period for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startups">startups</a> would be welcome as well as further simplification of tax and other regulatory requirements. Lastly, exits are a healthy sign for any startup ecosystem. Our 4 acquisitions in the last year have shown us that it can be quite onerous currently. Enabling faster, easier exits would be very welcome as well. 
 
From a healthcare perspective, up until now, the expenditure on healthcare has been limited and while India has the fastest growing population and an ambitious growth aspiration, it has always had a disproportionately small health budget. With the focus on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Digital+India">digital India</a>, I hope the government provides provisions that drive digitization adoption by healthcare providers. Digitization can bring considerable efficiency in the system which will help alleviate a lot of challenges consumers face today due to the limited access/supply of healthcare providers in the country. Having digital records itself can considerably improve the quality of diagnosis and care consumers receive. The Government could incentivize, assist and enable more hospitals, clinics and other enterprises to leverage <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=information+technology">information technology</a> (IT) to create patient-centric healthcare systems that can improve response times, reduce human error, save costs, and impact the overall quality of life. Another thing we should do is innovate and promote “<keyword id="6354869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="make-in-India">Make in India</keyword>” initiatives in the medical devices sector as well as other sectors. There can be multiple models – the government can purchase and provide to PHCs or even take steps where device makers can procure these devices at a more affordable price. I think for the cost that vast majority of Indian market can sustain, importing won’t be viable so the Make in India program could really help in this aspect and special focus on this area in the budget would be welcome. I am also optimistic that the government incentivises the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=public+healthcare">public healthcare</a> system to work more closely with the innovation driven by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startups">startups</a> in India to solve many of the problems they face – without necessitating increase in public health expenditure. 
 
 With these steps, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startups">startups</a> can continue to thrive and solve some of the most fundamental problems that plague our country, add considerable growth to our economy and help further establish India’s innovation credentials. In short, I expect and hope that this budget would place a new milestone towards acknowledging and supporting the role of entrepreneurs in shaping <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Digital+India">Digital India</a>.”

Analysts at <a href="https://www.bccresearch.com/market-research/healthcare/intravenous-iv-therapy-and-vein-access-global-markets.html">BCC Research</a> expect the global market for IV therapy to reach $54.5 billion by 2023.I sought to find out if IV drip therapy is worth the hype. I visited <a href="https://restore.com/">Restore</a>, a wellness brand that offers a variety of IV drip therapies it says can help with weight loss, hydration, energy, inflammation, and aging. <h2>Prior to getting my IV therapy, I met with several clinicians at Restore who made sure I was fit to drip. </h2><div type="image" title="The inside of a Restore Hyper Wellness location in Chelsea, New York City" height="2274" width="3024" msid="88362431" hostid="261"></div>I went to Restore's location in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City at 12:45 p..m. Two others were receiving IV drip therapies while on their laptops, and a third received <a href="https://restore.com/services/compression/">compression therapy</a> meant to reduce muscle pain.When I got to the <keyword id="12765261" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="wellness-center" source="Orion">wellness center</keyword>, I had to fill out a few forms that asked about my medical history. The forms had extensive questions about history of complications related to my brain, heart, lungs, eyes, mental health, liver, kidneys, and more. After filling out the forms, a nurse set me up on a Zoom call with a nurse practitioner to review my forms. The wait to talk to a nurse practitioner only took about five minutes, and the call lasted about another five because I had no history of medical conditions. I then selected which supplements, acids, and vitamins I wanted in my IV. I chose the "Recharge" drip that Restore claimed would restore energy, promote collagen production, help with muscle repair, and aid in the excretion of metabolic waste. The drip cost $209 for non-members. Drips ranged between $139 to $339 for non-members, and patients can choose to add extra shots and supplement boosts for $35 to $39.The "Recharge" recovery drip therapy I selected included four ingredients: <a href="https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/Proline">proline</a>, an amino acid used as the building block of proteins; <a href="https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/Taurine">taurine</a>, an amino acid the body uses as an antioxidant and a metabolite; <a href="https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/vitamin-c/">vitamin C</a>, which controls infections and helps heal wounds; and <a href="https://www.cancer.gov/publications/dictionaries/cancer-drug/def/glutathione">glutathione</a>, which helps form and maintain disulfide bonds in proteins.I chose Recharge to help me recover from a high intensity workout from the morning. Even though I usually feel the most soreness in my muscles the day after a heavy weight exercises — due to a phenomenon called <a href="https://www.insider.com/how-to-recover-faster-muscle-soreness-to-work-out-again-2020-3">delayed onset muscle soreness</a> — I could already feel weakness in my muscles a couple hours after leaving the gym. <h2>Receiving the drip at Restore was a pleasant experience, and I enjoyed observing other customers use innovative health-wellness technology.</h2><div type="image" title="A nurse at Restore Hyper Wellness sets up an intravenous drip therapy." height="2274" width="3024" msid="88362433" hostid="261"></div>After selecting my drip, I got to select to sit on either a massage chair or a recliner. After sitting down, Kierstin Wood, a nurse at the center, brought over the IV and needle. Though I used to be good with needles, the last time I got my blood drawn I had to get poked four times because the nurse could not find my veins. I was nervous the same might happen this time around, but Wood inserted the needle with ease within a couple seconds. As I got my IV drip placed, Darren Mota, the general manager at Restore's Chelsea location, talked about other therapies offered at Restore, including cryotherapy, compression therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and infrared saunas.Miriam Rammal, a Restore nurse, said customers have used <a href="https://restore.com/services/mild-hyperbaric-oxygen-therapy/">hyperbaric chambers</a>, which increases air pressure to allow your lungs to breath more oxygen, for recovering from surgery, treating COVID-19 brain fog, and sleeping. Mota, a former Nike coach, said Restore's various therapies have helped him recover from exercise much faster than before he started using them. Mota said he can work out everyday, and sometimes twice a day, due to decreased time he spends in recovery. <h2>I quickly felt energized and hydrated from the IV drip, but couldn't feel the effects long-term. I would love to get more IV drips, but can't afford the $200 price point.</h2><div type="image" title="Insider reporter Allana Akhtar receiving IV drip therapy at Restore" height="2274" width="3024" msid="88362434" hostid="261"></div>The IV therapy took about 35 minutes total. After the drip, I felt slightly lightheaded and nauseous, so the nurses recommended I sit for five minutes. As I recovered, I asked Rammal and Wood about working at Restore. The nurses spend most their time working at Lennox Hill helping long-term intensive care patients and work at Restore part-time. The two had both treated COVID-19 patients during the height of the pandemic, when New York City was the epicenter of the new disease. Rammal and Wood said helping healthy, fit people at Restore offered a welcome break from treating severely sick patients. As I was recovering from the drip, I started to feel more alert, like after having a cup of coffee. Importantly, my muscle soreness was gone entirely — it was like I hadn't even worked out that day. I was curious to see if Restore could help with my DOMS the next day, but unfortunately my muscle soreness came back. It would be nice to get another IV drip to relieve my soreness, but I can't afford another $200 treatment.

From superstitions that keep them away from the kitchen or holy places, to traditions that restrict them to the household, <keyword id="45804" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="period">period</keyword> is still a tough subject in India. But a wave of change is coming in. Companies now allow ‘period days’ where women can take the day off if they suffer from pain while menstruating. The otherwise stereotypical movie business which stays away from relevant topics, welcomed movies on menstruation like Padman. The movie ‘Period. End of Sentence’, won an Oscar for the best documentary short film. The movie shows Indian women who come together to build accessible menstrual hygiene products. The Indian startup industry is not too far either with apps that help track periods to building products for women’s hygiene. On <keyword id="4584427" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="world-menstrual-hygiene-day">World Menstrual Hygiene Day</keyword>, here’s a look at Indian startups that are working on this topic. <keyword id="4606906" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="nyra">Nyra</keyword> App Vivant is a B2B data driven healthcare startup based out of Singapore. On World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the startup launched Nyra an app that can be used by women to track their period, fertility, ovulation, mood, lifestyle and physical activity. “In India it is estimated that around 23 million girls have dropped out of school due to menstruation and lack of awareness of women’s health issues. Nyra aims to help address this by giving women everywhere access to feminine health information and advice, and control over their feminine health journey. We have initially launched the app to include Hindi, but are actively looking to make the app available in other vernacular languages,” said Adrit Raha, CEO, Vivant. <keyword id="7326219" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sirona">Sirona</keyword> Gurugram-based PeeBuddy which has been working on women’s hygiene with its disposable, portable urination device for women has also launched Sirona, a range of products for menstrual hygiene. The products introduced by Sirona include herbal feminine pain relief patches, oxo-degradable disposal bags, tampons, reusable menstrual cups, panty liners etc. Sirona is already present in 150 outlets across Delhi-NCR through retailers. It plans to amplify its presence to 5 cities by FY21. FLOH FLOH is a feminine health and hygiene brand by Visionaari, a Delhi-based personal care startup. It has its own line of tampons, and recently also launched Crampfree – herbal period pain relief patches. “Since its inception, making sure women forget that they are on their period has been the core of FLOH’s ideology. As menstrual cramps affect most of the women out there, it was our natural progression to address this problem. Just like FLOH tampons, Crampfree will change the way women perceive their periods, helping them have a bloody good period,” said Gauri Singhal, Founder and CEO, Visionaari. Azah The organic wellness startup Azah produces and sells cotton sanitary pads. According to the company, these sanitary pads are fabricated with the finest organic cotton and do not contain harmful chemicals such as chlorine, dioxins, or artificial fragrances. The startup, which was founded by engineering graduates, Shashwat Diesh and Aqib Mohammed, in November 2018 had recently raised an angel investment of $200,000. It is not just fitness lovers who are gaining from this diet, but startups too are keen on providing keto-friendly snacks to the increasing number of health-conscious Indians. “People can’t replace keto friendly food with their everyday meal so we brought modified version of Indian snacks to the market,” Sudarshan Gangrade, the founder of Lo! Foods told Business Insider India. This Bengaluru-based startup believes that even those who diet continue to snack and hence healthy snacks replacements will find takers. Lo! Foods has a low-carb and keto-friendly range of packaged foods. It uses atta which is whole wheat flour to make healthy snacks like South Indian mixture, low-carb namakpare, coated peanuts and desserts including coconut ladoo. It recently introduced keto-friendly chocolates as well. The low-carb and high-fat diet has gained traction in the last 3-4 years.Yet, love for snacks is what makes people binge on unhealthy foods, and Lo! believes that its a sweet spot for them. While the health food market in itself is at ₹2,000 crore per annum, the keto market size is around ₹25-₹30 crore. Health snacks market is also growing fast at rate of 50%. Moreover, there are very few competitors in the market. Lo! Foods recently raised <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/start-ups/lo-foods-raises-500000-1566458905587.html">$500,000 from angel investor</a>s and is eyeing tie-ups with 5-star hotels. “Lo! Foods is helping people reduce their carb consumption from 80-85% to 25% through a wide range of Indian snacks,” said Gangrade. PC Mustafa, an advisor to Lo! Foods believes that health conscious Indians are willing to pay a premium price for healthy foods The startup claims to have India's most extensive range of low carb food.
