HDFC’s stock value jumped by 1.5% in early morning trade after the company announced that it has plans to raise ₹14,000 crore through its new equity fundraising program. Around ₹10,000 crore will come from qualified institutional placement (QIP) and ₹4,000 crore in warrants. <div type="image" title="HDFC BANK stock price (1)" msid="77385963" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;HDFC share price jumps 1.5% as markets open today morning&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The floor price for the equity shares has been set to ₹1,838.94 and the board of directors will meet again on August 10 to determine the issue price. In addition to the ₹14,000 crore, HDFC will also be issuing secured redeemable non-convertible debentures worth ₹9,000 crore. This is the third time in the last 12 years that HDFC is raising capital through such an offering. It did so once in 2009 and then again in 2015. HDFC's first full quarter in the face of the coronavirus pandemic saw a loss of 4.7% at the end of June. Its gross non-performing loans stood at ₹8,631 crore accounting for 1.87% of HDFC’s loan portfolio. The company already has ₹12,285 in the bank as provisions to serve as a cushion once the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) moratorium ends on August 31. It even added another ₹1,199 this quarter specifically for COVID related accounts. Despite having safeguards in place, many companies are going down the QIP route to shore up capital against the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic. This includes Kotak Mahindra Bank, Info Edge and — most recently to lay down its offering — <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/finance/banks/news/axis-bank-finalises-10000-crore-share-sale-to-raise-funds-at-a-floor-price-of-442-19/articleshow/77354177.cms">Axis Bank for a whopping ₹ 10,000 crore</a>. The increased enthusiasm for HDFC Bank’s shares follows an announcement that the bank will meet on <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/companies/announcements/results/hdfc-bank-ltd-board-meeting-intimation-for-financial-results-for-quarter-and-year-ending-31st-march-2019-and-recommendation-of-dividend-if-any/article26511006.ece">April 20th </a>to review its results for the 2018-19 fiscal year. The bank started as housing finance company in 1977, before commencing operations as a scheduled commercial bank in 1995 as part of the RBI’s drive to liberalise India’s banking sector. In the last one year, HDFC Bank’s shares have risen by 19%. At a time when the Indian banking sector has seen profits shrink amid higher provisions for bad loans, HDFC has consistently recorded a 20% growth in profits for <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/hdfc-bank-ltd/yearly/companyid-9195.cms">the last couple of years</a>. The bank posted <a href="https://www.hdfcbank.com/htdocs/common/pdf/corporate/Financial-Results-for-Quarter-and-Nine-months-ended-December-30-2018.pdf">a solid earnings report</a> for the quarter ended December, with a 20% growth in profits as well and a bad loan ratio of less than 1.5%. In February, CLSA, a global brokerage, listed the bank as one of its best bets in India’s banking sector, citing its<a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/markets/clsa-bullish-on-hdfc-hdfc-bank-expects-25-30-upside-going-ahead-3577771.html"> healthy growth and increasing market share</a>. The lender seems set to be the highest-valued bank in India for a long while. The share price of private-sector lenders cracked over 2% during the afternoon session after trading in the green for almost two hours. It is noteworthy that among all the lenders, HDFC is the largest credit card seller in the country. “RBI has issued an order dated December 2, to HDFC Bank Ltd with regard to certain incidents of outages in the internet banking/ mobile banking/ payment utilities of the bank over the past two years, including the recent outages in the bank’s internet banking and payment system on November 21, 2020, due to a power failure in the primary data centre,” the bank said in a regulatory filing. According to the bank the <a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/893abfb4-95cb-4942-a555-312aef465ef4.pdf">RBI order</a> “has advised the bank to temporarily stop all launches of the digital business-generating activities planned under its program Digital 2.0 and other proposed business generating IT applications and sourcing of new credit card customers”. In addition, the order has directed the bank board to examine the lapses and fixes accountability. The lender said the above measures should be considered for lifting upon satisfactory compliance with the major critical observations as identified by the RBI. HDFC Bank said “over the last two years, it has taken several measures to fortify its IT systems and will continue to work swiftly to close out the balance and would continue to engage with the regulator in this regard. “The bank has been taking conscious, concrete steps to remedy the recent outages on its digital banking channels and assures its customers that it expects the current supervisory actions will have no impact on its existing credit cards, digital banking channels and existing operations. The bank believes that these measures will not materially impact its overall business,” it added. HDFC Bank has lost over $2 billion in market value after the RBI crackdown on the lender’s digital business

It further said the requisite disclosure had already been made on March 27, and since the shares have now been credited to the account of the Corporation, the disclosure was being made once again. HDFC pulls in Reliance Capital's pledges to acquire 6.43% stake in the company

New Delhi, Jun 3 () Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), promoter of HDFC Life, on Wednesday sold 2.6 crore shares of the insurance company worth a little over Rs 1,274 crore through an open market transaction. According to bulk deal data available with the BSE, a total of 2,60,00,000 shares of HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd were sold by its promoter HDFC, the data showed. The shares were offloaded on an average price of Rs 490.22 apiece, valuing the transaction at Rs 1,274.57 crore, the data added. However, the buyers of the shares could not be ascertained immediately. At the end of the March 2020 quarter, HDFC held 51.44 per cent stake in HDFC Life. Shares of HDFC Life closed at Rs 501.40 apiece on the BSE, up 0.37 per cent from the previous close, while that of HDFC ended the trade at Rs 1,836.25, a rise of 1.18 per cent from the previous close. HDFC offloads shares of HDFC Life worth over Rs 1,274 cr

New Delhi, Apr 15 () Telecom operator Bharti Airtel has surpassed HDFC to become the country's fifth most valued firm in terms of market valuation. At close of trade on Wednesday, Bharti Airtel's market capitalisation (m-cap) stood at Rs 2,78,206.15 crore, Rs 1,987.86 crore more than that of HDFC's valuation of Rs 2,76,218.29 crore on the BSE. Shares of Bharti Airtel had gained in the last two trades, but closed on a marginally lower note on Wednesday, down 0.35 per cent at Rs 509.95. Mortgage lender HDFC's shares fell 3.61 per cent to close at Rs 1,594.75. RIL is the country's most valued firm with a valuation of Rs 7,29,050.55 crore, followed by TCS (Rs 6,50,832.37 crore), HUL (Rs 5,38,992.08 crore), HDFC Bank (Rs 4,73,454.37 crore) and Bharti Airtel.
