The new fund offer for the scheme will open for subscription on June 23, 2023, and close on July 7, 2023. The investment objective of the fund is to generate long-term capital appreciation by investing predominantly in equity, and equity related securities of companies with a focus on a non-cyclical consumer theme. The fund will track the Nifty India Consumption Index (TRI). It is a benchmark index that measures the performance of the Indian consumption sector, including companies engaged in consumer goods, consumer services, and related industries, providing a comprehensive view of the overall performance of the consumption theme in the Indian stock market. The core of the portfolio, (at least 80%), will be allocated to stocks that fall under the non-cyclical consumer theme within the basic industries. The fund will be equally focussed on companies that are likely to witness steady and secular growth, and also companies that have a possibility of a turnaround. The agents get a new excuse to talk to the investors, and also when it is a new fund, they do not need to justify why they have not performed well. When it comes to mutual funds, all you have is some track record - where it has invested, how it has performed. Here I do not know anything. My other advice is that never invest in a sectoral, or a thematic fund. My primary goal of investing in a mutual fund is that I should diversify. The very basic thing is not being achieved in case of a thematic fund,” says Kumar. HDFC Mutual Fund launches its first non-cyclical consumer fund – Should you invest?

This move is expected to impact the capital buffers of these banks. According to analysts, these banks would be most impacted by the move as their capital ratios would be affected by 30-85 basis points. For banks the first line of defense against bad loans is CET Tier 1 capital or Common Equity Tier 1 capital (CET1), which is the highest quality of regulatory capital, as it absorbs losses immediately when they occur. According to Motilal Oswal Financial Services, the CET 1 impact would be maximum for RBL/HDFC Bank/ICICI Bank at 84 basis points/72 basis points/64 basis points. Among non banks, SBI Cards would be the most vulnerable with a 416bp impact on capital ratios. Capital buffers will have to be further strengthened by banks if they want to lend to consumers for unsecured loans. If a bank had to set aside say ₹20 for loans, it will now have to set aside 25% more for every unsecured loan it issues. Not just this the banks will have to set aside more capital if they want to lend to shadow banks or non banking financial institutions as well. When cost of capital increases, so will lending rates. In the years after the pandemic broke, unsecured personal loans to retail borrowers have been on a steady rise. Not just banks but even non banks have been merrily issuing such loans to borrowers, and in many cases these borrowers have multiple such loans used for consumption. From 12-14% these loans are now growing at 30% rate. The central bank has cracked down on some non banks for not adhering to norms while underwriting such small ticket loans. The red flags have been flying high for a while now. According to proprietary research done by UBS, borrowers with more than five personal loans rose from 1% in 2018 to 7.7% in March 2023. New disbursement of personal loans to borrowers with weaker credit profiles accounted for 22% of disbursements. Of all banks, UBS was of the view that state-owned banks and non banking financial companies had a much higher share of weak borrowers compared to private banks. Analysts believe that pressure on net interest margins and higher credit costs to impact earnings of banks and shadow banks over FY24 and FY25. Paytm, a fintech company, has recently built a large loan portfolio which is mostly comprised of personal loans. With the <keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword> cracking down on these loans, the loan growth will be impacted for Paytm too. Deepak Shenoy, CEO of Capital Mind, took to social media to explain the impact, “See how it affects SBI cards: SBI Cards had credit card receivables of ₹ 45,000 crore with 23% capital adequacy ratio (CAR). So ₹10,500 cr in capital (23% of ₹45Kcr). Increase risk weight to 125% means ₹45K cr=₹56K cr risk weighted assets.” Shenoy explains that if “SBI Cards wants to grow, and keep high CARs (min is 15% I think?) they’ll need to raise capital and dilute. Shrinking car and two-wheeler sales is now hurting India’s biggest private bank

Mumbai, Jun 17 () India's largest private sector lender HDFC Bank on Wednesday said its consumer finance loans are growing and the amount disbursed has got back to the pre-Covid levels of Rs 1,000 crore a month. The city-headquartered lender's country head for consumer finance Parag Rao said changes in lifestyle due to aspects like lockdowns and work from home has created additional demand for items such as television sets, laptops, Wi-Fi routers and even vacuum cleaners, which the bank is funding at present. It can be noted that driving consumption demand in the economy has been one of the toughest challenges which policymakers are grappling with, and economists have expressed concerns about the same. Acknowledging that a part of the traction being witnessed by the bank is pent-up demand, Rao said there is a "set of consumer appliances where demand is going up". In April, the consumer finance business had fallen by 80-85 per cent and recovered to the March levels in May, even though the non-lockdown conditions prevailed for only ten days. Rao, who also heads the credit card and payments verticals, said traditional high ticket expenditures in categories like air tickets and hotel bookings is not present as the services continue to be shut and it will take time for the same to jump back to the old levels. From an expenditure perspective, shares of small value transactions have gone up as a share of the overall pie, Rao said. As against 8-9 per cent earlier, the small value spends of up to Rs 500 generally made for daily errands now account for nearly a fourth of the overall card spending on the reduced denominator, Rao said. "People are pulling out their cards for more number of occasions and hence, activity on cards has gone up," he said. The upcoming fintech players are competitors but not disruptors, he asserted, adding that emergence of newer players helps broaden the market opportunity. "The yeoman's job which this competition is doing is I think it is expanding the market," he said. He said HDFC Bank is a full service bank offering an entire suite of products, including payments and deemed to suggest sustainability is important for the lender. "Sustainable market leadership is not just about throwing cashbacks or having the best customer experience. Mumbai, Feb 5 () The Budget does not provide any counter-cyclical stimulus to boost consumption, and the Reserve Bank will have to do the heavy lifting to boost growth by cutting rates, the country's largest private sector lender HDFC Bank said on Wednesday.The budget announcements are also not inflationary in nature, and the Reserve Bank can cut rates as early as in the June review, it said, adding that the rate-setting monetary policy committee will opt for a status quo on Thursday.It can be noted that GDP growth is set to slip to a decadal low of 5 per cent for FY20, leading to widespread calls for measures from policymakers to push up the number. As risks to inflation materialised, the RBI had surprised all with a pause in rate hikes at the last review."Going forward, we think that the scales could tip in the favour of growth as soon as inflation prints become more palatable," the report by HDFC Bank's economists said.It said the headline inflation print will continue to be above seven per cent, much higher than the RBI's upper band of 6 per cent for January as well and may cool down later.The report argued that it is not the high prices of onions alone that is impacting inflation, saying the price rise is more broad-based and influenced by increasing global food prices.Inflation will go down slowly during FY21, and the headline number will come below 4 per cent level - which is the RBI's target - only by the second half of the next fiscal year, it said.The inflation may go below 3 per cent as well by December this year on the high base on a healthy production of both the winter and summer crops, it added."The RBI might look through the volatility in inflation and lay emphasis on the wide output gap, delivering a cut perhaps as soon as June 2020," it said.From a risks to inflation perspective, the report said, we need to watch out for a prolonged increase in global food prices given their strong correlation with domestic food prices and added that protein inflation could remain a risk amidst any surge in milk, meat and pulses prices. The return to normalcy may look better when compared to the performance last year. The three IT stocks -- HCL Tech, Mphasis, and Tech Mahindra-- are expected to give the highest return on equity, above 20% each, according to the estimates in the model portfolio of stocks. Its products currently reach 3.15 lakh wholesalers and retailers. The issue comprises fresh issue to the tune of ₹292 crore; and an offer for sale of ₹301 crore. The net proceeds from the fresh issue will be used to set-up a new manufacturing facility for writing instruments in Valsad, Gujarat. It will use the rest to fund capex; working capital requirements, loan payment and more. The company’s revenues have been growing at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22.85% from FY21 to FY23. “We have been consistently growing and outperforming the market. We are confident that we will be able to keep up with the growth rates seen historically,” said Rathod. Its net profit almost doubled in FY23 as compared to the year before. “In FY23, the company’s operating margin moved upward as EBITDA margins increased 300 basis points and stood at 19.47% versus 16.9% on a YoY basis,” said a report by Kunvarji Wealth Solutions which gave a ‘subscribe’ rating to the IPO. Plant shutdowns, its inability to carry through its expansion plans, labour unrests, regulatory and other issues have been cited by the company as risk factors in its RHP. It also adds that increased competition could have a material impact on its business. In FY23, the market share of organized players in the writing instrument space is around 78-80% with the rest being catered to by unorganized players, according to CRISIL.
