 As the equities markets are drying up, Puri said that the economy will land in a cash flow problem, in an interview with CNBC TV 18. Puri asserts that the crisis in the economy is not a case of companies failing. “This is a cash flow problem that should be helped by the government,” he said.

He expressed the need for an unscheduled interest rate cut, ahead of the monetary policy revision scheduled for April 3. HDFC Bank is beefing up capital and provision to cushion a spike in bad loans post moratorium — and that’s helping its share price

Home financier HDFC and <keyword id="6357149" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="HDFC-bank">HDFC Bank</keyword> may merge to create the second largest bank in terms of assets after the <keyword id="6354731" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="State-Bank-Of-India">State Bank of India</keyword> (SBI) if "economies of scale prove beneficial" to both. 
 
Ever since the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) allowed banks to float special infrastructure bonds, exempting them from reserve requirements and priority sector responsibilities, there have been murmurs of a possible merger between HDFC Bank and its parent HDFC. 
 
As per RBI regulations, a bank needs to set aside 4% of its deposits as cash reserve ratio and 22.5% in government bonds. So HDFC would have to transfer its assets to the bank. 
 
Paresh Sukthankar, deputy managing director, HDFC Bank, said after announcing its quarterly financial results, "The regulations by themselves do not warrant a merger. We will have to study the ramifications and see whether there is some merit on coming back to the drawing board." 
 
However, HDFC Bank has told the Bombay Stock Exchange that the media reports on the merger is erroneous and no such proposal is being considered.

HDFC And HDFC Bank May Merge To Form The Second Largest Bank In India

New Delhi, Nov 28 () HDFC Bank on Thursday said it has formed a six-member committee to find a successor to Managing Director Aditya Puri who is set to retire in October next year.
 India's largest private sector lender HDFC Bank is on a global search to find a successor to the founding-chief executive Aditya Puri, as he would turn 70 next year.
 "The board of directors of the bank at its meeting held today has constituted a search committee to identify a successor to Aditya Puri, the current managing director of the bank, whose tenure ends on October 26, 2020," the bank said in a regulatory filing.
 The search committee will comprise Shyamala Gopinath, Sanjiv Sachar, M D Ranganath, Sandeep Parekh, Srikanth Nadhamuni and Keki Mistry representative of HDFC, the parent of the bank. Gopinath is the bank's chairperson.
 "The search committee, over the next few months, shall evaluate internal and external candidates to ensure smooth transition," the bank said.
 Puri will act as an advisor to the search committee, the bank said.
 It is noteworthy that Puri, the managing director and chief executive since 1994 when the bank was set up, has seen a whopping 41 per cent increase in total remuneration in 2019 to Rs 13.67 crore.
 He turns 70 next year and has been instrumental in getting the bank to its current stature as one of the most valued banks globally in terms of price to earnings ratio.
 Also there are reports that Puri, an ex-Citibanker, may continue as the non-executive chairman post retirement.
 Separately, the board of directors of the bank also approved appointments of Sashidhar Jagdishan and Bhavesh Zaveri as an additional directors and executive directors for a period of three years period each from November 28, 2019, subject to RBI approval. KPM SHW

New Delhi, Jun 13 () HDFC Bank on Saturday said the Reserve Bank of India has approved re-appointment of Kaizad Bharucha as Executive Director of the bank for three years. "We wish to inform you that the Reserve Bank of India, vide its communication dated June 12, 2020, has accorded its approval to the bank for re-appointment of Kaizad Bharucha as Executive Director of the bank for a period of three years with effect from June 13, 2020," HDFC Bank said in a regulatory filing. New Delhi, Jun 20 () HDFC Bank on Saturday said its board has approved proposal to raise up to Rs 50,000 crore in the next twelve months by issuing various debt securities. The decision was taken at the board of directors meeting held on June 20, 2020, HDFC Bank said in a regulatory filing. "The Board of Directors has approved the issue of perpetual debt instruments (part of additional tier I capital), tier II capital bonds and long term bonds (financing of infrastructure and affordable housing) up to a total amount of Rs 50,000 crore," HDFC Bank said. The largest bank in the private sector said that it will raise the capital through in the period of next twelve months through private placement mode, subject to the approval of the shareholders at the ensuing annual general meeting (AGM) and any other regulatory approvals. HDFC Bank board finalises Puri's successor, waits for RBI nod

MUMBAI: Getting the <keyword id="34412" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="economy">economy</keyword> going again will be among the primary tasks of the new government, although there are few concrete signs of a turnaround amid gloomy forecasts of a possibly weak monsoon. But if and when some of the sunnier prognostications come true, the banking sector will be among the beneficiaries. 
 Banking analysts are of the view that once the economy picks up, ICICI Bank and <keyword id="6355975" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Axis-Bank">Axis Bank</keyword> will gain on account of loan growth and <keyword id="6357149" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="HDFC-bank">HDFC Bank</keyword> will benefit on account of better credit quality and margin improvement. 
 "All the three banks - ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank - are well placed to grow once the economic revival kicks in. In terms of valuation, Axis Bank is cheaper compared to an ICICI Bank," said Vaibhav Agarwal, <keyword id="194323" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="banking-analyst">banking analyst</keyword> at Angel Broking. "Axis Bank's focus on its retail business has increased over the past two years. There have been some concerns on the asset-quality front. However, once the policy environment improves, these concerns will be over." 
 
The banks have been consolidating corporate loans and diversifying their balance sheet, so they are positioned to hit the growth button once the economy gains momentum. In the March quarter, the big three private sector lenders saw credit growth in the high teens.

In the March quarter, ICICI reported a 15% rise in profit to Rs 2,652 crore, while Axis Bank's increased 18.5% to Rs 1,842 crore, both meeting expectations. HDFC Bank's profit grew 23% to Rs 2,327 crore, the slowest in more than a decade and below estimates on account of the sluggish economy and higher tax rates. 
 
Private lenders expect to grow faster than the industry average, which is around 20%. 
 "We expect the system loan growth to be 16-18% in the current financial year. We aim to grow at 2-4% higher than (this) average. So, our credit growth is expected to be 18-20%," said <keyword id="45875" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Chanda-Kochhar">Chanda Kochhar</keyword>, managing director and chief executive officer, ICICI Bank. On the asset quality front, managements feel the worst is over. 
 "ICICI Bank and Axis Bank would be the biggest beneficiaries of an economic revival as they would see loan demand from corporates increase. HDFC Bank will see increase in short-term loan demand and will benefit from improved asset quality," said Saday Sinha, banking analyst, <keyword id="66607" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Kotak-securities">Kotak Securities</keyword>. "Axis Bank has exposure to the power sector. In the next one-and-a-half years, if the input linkage problems are not solved, it (Axis Bank) runs the risk of restructuring these accounts." 
 
ICICI Bank and Axis Bank have restructured loans worth Rs 2,156 crore and Rs 1,115 crore, respectively. "Looking at where we are and the uncertain environment, with no change in financial year 2015, we see credit cost to be around 70 basis points," said V Srinivasan, executive director, corporate banking at Axis Bank. 
 
Net non-performing assets rose marginally to 0.3% from 0.2% for HDFC Bank. 
 
"We have managed to maintain asset quality as we have avoided lending to some names and stayed away from groups that have been highly leveraged," said Paresh Sukthankar, deputy MD, HDFC Bank. There is an element of "growth and asset quality linked to the economic growth. The worst is behind us. Clearly we are off the bottom", he said.

New Delhi, Jun 19 () Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Friday said it has partnered with HDFC Bank to offer customised financing solutions for those buying cars through its online automotive retail platform 'Click to Buy'. This tie-up will enable customers to avail of loans through Click to Buy platform without the need to visit HDFC Bank branch, HMIL said in a statement. "Our partnership with HDFC Bank will forge a new beginning for the customer purchase journey from any virtual location with the most lucrative finance deals," HMIL Executive Director – Corporate Planning W S Oh said. He further said,"Since the launch of Click to Buy, we have received over 9 lakh visitors on the platform and have recorded over 17,000 registrations in two months."
