Ten more children died due the syndrome on Monday in <keyword id="527716" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Muzaffarpur-district">Muzaffarpur district</keyword>’s Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Bihar, medical superintendent of the hospital, Sunil Shahi, <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/mail-today/story/encephalitis-deaths-lapses-behind-bihar-brain-fever-horror-1550908-2019-06-18">informed</a> media on Monday. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called in an urgent internal meeting to take stock of the situation. Senior officers of the Health ministry are expected to attend the meeting. Earlier, on Saturday, Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey had said that the state government is doing its best to save the children, <a href="https://www.thequint.com/news/india/muzaffarpur-deaths-hypogylcemia-bihar-brain-fever-outbreak?utm_campaign=fullarticle&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=inshorts">reported ANI</a>. “Everything is being made available, from medicines to doctors. We have even called doctors and nurses from AIIMS in Patna,” Pandey said, adding that protocol is being adhered to while monitoring things, <a href="https://www.thequint.com/news/india/muzaffarpur-deaths-hypogylcemia-bihar-brain-fever-outbreak?utm_campaign=fullarticle&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=inshorts">as per The Quint</a>. The minister also said that six ambulances will be operational at the hospital from Friday and a new ward with 100-bed capacity will be made operational soon, after holding a meeting with SKMCH staff. CM Kumar expressed grief over the unfortunate deaths and announced an ex-gratia of ₹400 ,000 for the families who have lost their children. Encephalitis and Bihar Bihar has been affected by the disease before. In 2014, encephalitis, caused 379 deaths in Bihar. It was said to be due to the delay in implementation of centre’s ambitious project to curb the disease. The then Health Minister, Dr Harsha Vardhan had then visited SKMCH and announced a 100-bed super-speciality facility which is still incomplete. On Sunday, Vardhan said it will be operational in six months. A 10-bed facility for treatment of children also awaits completion. Encephalitis deaths in Muzaffarpur, and adjoining places such as, Sitamarthi, Motihari, Sheohar and Vaishali have been an annual feature for the last three decades. Another lapse in this prevailing problem was a weak awareness campaign by the government. Director-in-Chief, Disease Control, Bihar, RD Ranjan, after his visit to Muzaffarpur on Friday, 14 June, said, “We can confirm the data as of 10 June.” Till then, 34 deaths had taken place and 109 cases of brain fever were reported. He reiterated that none of the deaths, till then, have been caused by AES. “The casualties were result of hypoglycaemia,” Ranjan <a href="https://www.thequint.com/news/india/encephalitis-bihar-muzzaffarpur-brain-fever-outbreak">told Quint</a>.

The chairman of Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani surged to the top spot as India’s richest man. India has added 38 <keyword id="6393637" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="billionaires" source="Orion">billionaires</keyword> to its rich list, taking the total tally to 259. Even as the developed world is staring at a recession, India is cementing its position as an economic powerhouse. Nearly 65% of people in the rich list amassed a combined wealth of close to $1 trillion. This is akin to the combined GDP of Singapore and the UAE, Hurun said. Mukesh Ambani surpassed Gautam Adani, who dropped to the second spot, in spite of only a 2% growth in his wealth in the last one year. After Adani’s wealth more than halved in the last year, the gap between Ambani and Adani wealth widened by ₹3,30,000 crore. The top 10 has seen a lot of upheaval in the last one year – as only Shiv Nadar and Cyrus Poonawala were able to hold on to the positions they held last year. Gautam Adani’s brother Vinod Shantilal Adani who was the sixth richest Indian last year, exited the top 10 list this year. He is now the twelfth richest Indian after his wealth dropped by 37%. The other notable exit is Uday Kotak, the chairman of Kotak Mahindra Bank who is now the 11th richest man in the county after his wealth dropped 6% last year. However, their average wealth has decreased by 9.3%. The India Rich List added 273 new entrants and 38 new billionaires over the last year. The number of dollar billionaires also went up to 259, up 38 as compared to last year. “The trends prove that India is a shining moon in a world that is staring at recession. While the China Rich List has dropped 10% for each of this year and last year, both in terms of average wealth and in terms of the number of people that make the list. India is closing the gap,” said Anas Rahman Junaid, MD and Chief Researcher, Hurun India. India has 259 billionaires, up 38 compared to last year. While industrial products, metals &amp; mining added the greatest number of new entrants to the list. Pharma still holds the numero uno position and contributed 133 entrants to the list. “Over the past five years, many entrepreneurs have witnessed extraordinary wealth growth, some experiencing an astonishing 1,000% surge. Construction and engineering emerge as the top gainers in the top 100 list, followed closely by pharmaceuticals which has a cut-off of ₹20,000 crore,” said Anirudha Taparia, co-founder and joint CEO, 360 ONE Wealth. Funding winter &amp; founders’ wealth While 264 in the Indian rich list saw their wealth drop in the last one year, there were as many as 55 dropouts. The most notable of the dropouts is Byju Raveendran. The founder of edtech Byju’s exited the list on the back of investor markdowns. The funding winter and its ripple effects led to startup founders on the list experiencing a collective wealth dip of ₹85,000 crore. Recent policies, like the retrospective GST imposition on gaming companies and the angel tax and so on, could potentially hinder long-term wealth generation by startups, Hurun said. However, a few IPOs that stumbled last year did make a comeback. As new-age internet companies gain in value, entrepreneurs like Deepinder Goyal of Zomato and Yashish Dahiya of PB Fintech have seen their wealth increase by over 70%. Startup wealth creation will persist, albeit within a changing landscape, Junaid said. The IPO stars: Public issues and rich list debuts The stock markets also rewarded many public debuts and made their founders into billionaires. Ramesh Kunhikannan’s Kaynes Technology made a strong stock market debut. And he entered the list with a wealth of ₹8,200 crore. The spectacular listing gains provided by stock market debuts of many companies have pulled their owners into the rich list. Some of them include Jagdish Prasad Chowdhary of Titagarh Wagons, Ranjit Pendurthi of Archean Chemical Industries and Ajay P Thakker &amp; family of Jupiter Life Line Hospitals. Pavan Kumar Bajaj and Karan Bajaj of Electronics Mart India and Harsha Engineers’ Harish Rangwala and Rajendra Shantilal Shah too entered the coveted list of richest Indians after their stocks skyrocketed on debut. But there is money to be made in private markets too. Manish Kejriwal of Kedaara Capital became the first Indian Private Equity fund manager to enter the list.

Bengaluru-based <keyword id="218039" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="exponent" source="Orion">Exponent</keyword> has developed the epump and epack, its proprietary charger and battery pack, that together unlock a 15-min rapid charge for 0 to 100 per cent battery charge The startup said that the new funds will be utilised to scale up its EV network to 100 location points per city, starting with Bengaluru. All existing institutional investors, YourNest VC, 3one4 Capital and AdvantEdge VC, also participated in the latest funding round. "This team, with their drive and innovation, has made rapid EV battery charging possible in just 15 minutes. New Delhi, Mar 15 () After almost a three-year gap, the Banks Board Bureau, the headhunter for state-run banks and financial institutions, has been able to find a suitable candidate to head India Infrastructure Finance Company (IIFCL). The BBB, headed by former Secretary Department of Personnel and Training B P Sharma, has zeroed in on P R Jaishankar, the executive director at National Housing Bank, for the post of managing director of IIFCL. The post has been lying vacant since June 13, 2017. The chairman and members of the Banks Board Bureau interviewed various candidates on March 14, 2020, and it recommended Jaishankar's name for the MD position, the Bureau said in a statement. It took three attempts to find a suitable candidate for the post of MD and CEO of IIFCL. According to sources, Jaishankar has been facing interview since 2017 when the government had first invited application for the job. He was then chief general manager with IIFCL. No one was found suitable from among the list of applicants in 2017. Subsequently, another failed attempt was made 2018. The government-appointed panel in March 2019 interviewed candidates for the post but did not find any one suitable to lead the organisation. The government for the third time invited applications in May last year, which reached its logical conclusion. The Bureau interfaced with 19 candidates from various public and private organisations on March 14, 2020 for two vacancies of deputy managing director (DMD) in EXIM Bank; one vacancy of DMD in SIDBI, IFCI Ltd and IIFCL each besides the vacancy of MD in IIFCL, it said. Keeping in view their performance in the interface and their overall experience, it said, the Bureau recommends Lekhan Thakkar for the vacancy of DMDs in EXIM Bank (vacancy arose on 16.08.2017) and Harsha Bangari (vacancy arose on 21.07.2019) while N Ramesh and Sudatta Mandal as the candidate on the Reserve List respectively. It has recommended Sunil Kumar Bansal for DMD in IFCI, Pawan Kumar for DMD in IIFCL and V S V Rao for the DMD in SIDBI. The decision on the appointment will be taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister, in 2016, approved the constitution of BBB as a body of eminent professionals and officials to make recommendations for appointment of whole-time directors as well as non-executive chairpersons of public sector banks (PSBs) and state-owned financial institutions. It was also entrusted with the task of engaging with the board of directors of all PSBs to formulate appropriate strategies for their growth and development. Besides, it was asked to frame a strategy discussion on consolidation based on the requirement. Well, both seem to have done equally well in the annual IPL ad recall research of the Indian Institute of Human Brands (IIHB) conducted ten days after the start of the League this year. The research polled 879 respondents in the age-group of 18-35 years (M=481, F=398) across India. The interviews were conducted telephonically. Dream11 was the most spontaneously recalled brand in this year’s survey, which possibly also helped enhance both the brand equity and recall of MS Dhoni who anchored the 12-ad series for the brand as its ambassador and protagonist. Jio Fiber, with multiple IPL teams featured with an effervescent Ranveer Singh gyrating with a sing-song brand message, came in second on recall in the research, also helping the celebrity endorser to considerably strengthen his personal recall. Byju’s was the most spontaneously recalled brand on the IPL last year; though its celebrity endorser Shah Rukh Khan trailed behind other celebrities. Virat Kohli, as expected, did well on recall too, and came third in the recall rankings. Salman Khan did surprisingly well in this year’s survey and came in at No. 4, ahead of Rishabh Pant, Rahul Dravid, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Saurav Ganguly who followed in that sequence. Ajay Devgn, Sachin Tendulkar, Shikhar Dhawan, Shah Rukh Khan, Boman Irani, Kareena Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Ayushmann Khurrana and Akshay Kumar, on the other hand, had very few mentions and scored very poorly on respondent recall. There were sporadic mentions of Virender Sehwag and Priyanka Chopra too. In the last survey conducted in October 2020, MS Dhoni had the highest spontaneous recall as a celebrity endorser. Virat Kohli was a not-so-close second. Akshay Kumar was at rank 3; Ayushmann Khurrana at rank 4. “MS Dhoni and Ranveer Singh had a disproportionate share of visibility and recall in the IPL research we just conducted. This was in sync with the ultra-high recall of the brands they respectively endorse”, said Dr. Sandeep Goyal, Chief Mentor of IIHB. “It is interesting nevertheless to note that brands without celebrities like Phone Pe, Byju’s and others too have done well wherever media investments are heavy”. IIHB team used its proprietorial CELEBAR tool based on Celebrity Brand Association &amp; Recognition to assign a metric score to each celebrity and associated brand. His spontaneous recall was an unusually high 82%. His association with Dream 11 was also very constant at 79% from the last edition. He got 9% association with IPL/Star TV, 8% brand association with Indigo Paints, 6% with Orient Fans for Orient Fans and Livfast Solar. 2% recall came from SunFeast Yippee. So, most of Dhoni’s brand goodness got hijacked by Dream 11, much like last year. If Dhoni had only been endorsing Dream 11, his CELEBAR score would have been near 100, given his strong association with that one brand, to almost the relative exclusion of the other brands he endorses. Ranveer achieved a CELEBAR score of 86, empirically almost equal to that of MS Dhoni. But his association was more democratically spread with Jio Fiber at 56%, JD mart at 48%, My11 Circle at 22% and Bingo at 18%. Names of some other brands were mentioned by respondents but these were filtered out as they were not part of the IPL broadcast. Both MS Dhoni and Ranveer gained massively also on account of their main brands spending disproportionately large amounts of media monies which made them exponentially more visible than other competing celebrities. Virat Kohli trailed far behind the Top 2. His score of 45 on CELEBAR is mostly derived by his 94% association with MRF tyres. Bluestar is in low single digits on association. Salman Khan at a CELEBAR of 38, owes 82% recall to Rajshree elaichi and the balance to Pepsi. Rishabh Pant climbed up interestingly to No. 5 on the strength of his JSW appearances. Varun Dhawan had 76% of his recall from Lux Cozi and much lower from Frooti. Alia owed most of her recall also to Frooti with scattered mentions of Dark Fantasy. Interestingly, the IPL seems to be running no/few ads with Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, and even with cricketers Rohit Sharma or KL Rahul or Hardik Pandya, or the media weightages behind those ads were too insignificant to be noticed by viewers. The Cred ad for Rahul Dravid was spontaneously recalled by 17% respondents but only 2% remembered Jackie Shroff and only 1% mentioned Kumar Sanu for the same brand. Mutual Funds (AMFI) ads had 22% recall but most respondents got the protagonists mixed up, with the most attributing the messaging to Dhoni and Kohli. Dream 11’s association with multiple cricketers was mentioned by many respondents but most were not sure if they remembered current creatives. Only the connect with MS Dhoni was unambiguous. Despite heavy media weights, Vimal elaichi ad featuring Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan had only an 8% recall. Netmeds with Kareena Kapoor and Renuka Shahane had a good 9% recall. Priyanka Chopra’s Appy Fizz and Katrina’s Slice were almost not recalled. Hema Malini managed 3% recall on Kent RO. Randhir Kapoor’s Asian Paints managed 4% while Kareena Kapoor’s and Pankaj Tripathi’s Berger creatives both got below 1%. Ayushmann was remembered by less than 1% in Urban Company. Gajaraj Rao was mentioned in less than 1% for Voltas. Unacademy featuring Sunil Gavaskar and Harsha Bhogle too scored poorly at 2%. Gamezy featuring KL Rahul got less than 1% recall. On the ads without celebrities, the most remembered were Phone Pe (32%), Byju’s (31%), Vivo (22%), One Plus (21%), Groww (20%), Upstox (20%), Kia (19%), MPL (18%), Bisleri (11%), PharmEasy (11%), Thums Up(9%), Coca Cola (6%), Renault Kiger (6%), Tata Safari (6%), Skoda (3%), Ajio (3%), Dark Fantasy (2%), LikedIn (2%), Raymond (2%) and Tuborg (1%). As more gets added to the broadcast as the IPL progresses, both standings of celebrities and recall of brands may change.
