Smith, who went on to win the award for Best Actor that night, said he was defending his wife, who suffers from the<a href="https://www.insider.com/jada-pinkett-smith-alopecia-bald-patch-video-2021-12"> hair-loss condition alopecia</a>.</p><p>In an op-ed published by <a href="https://variety.com/2022/film/columns/harry-lennix-will-smith-chris-rock-slap-oscars-1235228965/">Variety</a> on Saturday, Lennix wrote that Smith's behavior undermined the integrity of the awards.</p><p>"Smith needs to express-mail his golden trophy back to the Academy and publicly state something to the effect of: 'Out of respect for the 94 years of honor conferred upon this award, I do not in good conscience feel worthy of being its custodian,'" the "Blacklist" actor wrote.</p><p>Last week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced <a href="https://www.insider.com/will-smith-banned-from-attending-the-oscars-for-10-years-2022-4">they were banning Smith</a> from attending any academy events or programs — including the <keyword id="12068839" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="oscars" source="Orion">Oscars</keyword> — for the next 10 years amid the controversial onstage altercation.</p><p>In an <a href="https://www.insider.com/will-smith-banned-from-attending-the-oscars-for-10-years-2022-4">open letter</a> obtained by Insider, the academy denounced Smith's actions as "unacceptable and harmful behavior" and said the ban is "a step toward a larger goal of protecting the safety of our performers and guests, and restoring trust in the Academy." </p><p>In a <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/08/entertainment/will-smith-academy-sanctions-decision/index.html">statement</a> to CNN, Smith said: "I accept and respect the Academy's decision." He also <a href="https://www.insider.com/oscars-2022-will-smith-resigns-from-academy-over-chris-rock-slap">resigned</a> from the academy on April 1, which means he can no longer vote for the Oscars.</p><p>But Lennix called the academy's ban a "toothless penalty that lays bare the shallowness of Hollywood morals."</p><p>"At this point, the only person who can redeem the integrity of the Oscars is Smith himself," Lennix wrote in the op-ed. "He needs to come to grips with the gravity of the offense he committed: slapping Rock, live on March 27 in front of millions on the Academy Awards stage."</p><p>The 57-year-old actor, who is a member of the Motion Picture and Television Academy, said Smith, 53, should do "more" in the wake of the slap, on top of resigning from the academy and being banned from future ceremonies and programs.</p><p>"The stain on the Motion Picture Academy cannot be easily remediated," he wrote in the op-ed. "The only hope for a justifiable grace must involve Smith voluntarily returning his award for best actor."</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Warning: There are spoilers ahead for "<keyword id="10813122" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Zack-Snyders-Justice-League">Zack Snyder's Justice League</keyword>."</li><li><keyword id="442750" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Zack-Snyder">Zack Snyder</keyword> always wanted to have a diverse group of heroes in his "<keyword id="254726" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Justice-League">Justice League</keyword>."</li><li>WB still didn't allow him to add a third Black hero, Green Lantern, into his "Snyder cut."</li></ul><p>"<a href="https://www.insider.com/zack-snyder-justice-league-2021-movie-review">Zack Snyder's Justice League</a>," now streaming on HBO Max, restores three diverse superheroes that were either completely cut or heavily pared down from the original 2017 theatrical version of the <keyword id="6356021" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="movie">movie</keyword>.</p><p><keyword id="2951887" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Harry-Lennix">Harry Lennix</keyword> told Insider he was cleared to film for the original "Justice League" back in 2016 before he was told he was getting cut.</p><p>"Because of the two-hour demand that the movie be cut down, my character got lost in the shuffle," Lennix <a href="https://www.insider.com/justice-league-harry-lennix-martian-manhunter-2021-3">told Insider</a>.</p><p>In the new film, Lennix is back and reveals himself as the Martian Manhunter twice in the movie. At the time, Lennix <a href="https://www.insider.com/justice-league-zack-snyder-cut-martian-manhunter-harry-lennix-cameo">had no idea Snyder planned to make him a hero</a>.</p><div type="image" title="martha kent martian manhunter justice league" height="1529" width="1200" msid="81657170" hostid="261"></div><p>Zheng Kai's role as a member of Star Labs was also cut. In the comics, the <a href="https://www.insider.com/zack-snyders-justice-league-dc-superhero-cut-movie-2021-3">character goes on to become a superhero named The Atom</a>.</p><p>Ray Fisher's role as Victor Stone/Cyborg was also pared down because of the studio mandate. He's now an integral part of the movie and even gets an extended origin story, which plays like a solo film worked into the confines of the larger "Justice League" plot.</p><p>Snyder told Deadline the film <a href="https://deadline.com/2021/03/zack-snyder-justice-league-cut-interview-ray-fisher-cyborg-joss-whedon-hbo-max-1234716917/">was supposed to set up a solo Cyborg movie</a>.</p><p>"I'm not surprised that Zack is ahead of the curve in many ways," Lennix said, adding that the Wachowski siblings, who he worked with on "The Matrix" sequels, were also pushing to put more diversity on-screen in their films.</p><p>"Knowing how many Black people love these characters in the DCEU - how I loved Superman growing up and Batman and these characters - to actually now be able to see oneself represented is transformative," Lennix continued. "It, in many ways, becomes determinative because you can associate yourself in a physical form with something that had previously been denied or in some way withheld from our demographic."</p><div type="image" title="martian manhunter harry lennix" height="1550" width="2098" msid="81657171" hostid="261"></div><p>While Martian Manhunter, Ryan Choi, and Cyborg's roles have been restored in the "Snyder cut," there's one more Black superhero Snyder wasn't able to work in - John Stewart's Green Lantern.</p><p>Warner Bros. wouldn't allow it.</p><p>"One of the rules of making the 'Snyder cut' was that the studio said, 'No shooting of any kind.' And then I, of course, shot stuff anyway because I was like suddenly, 'Wait. There's rules now on the Snyder cut?... That seems unfair,'" Snyder told <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-tuoaVIh3k">Sean O'Connell, Jake Hamilton, and Kevin McCarthy of the ReelBlend podcast</a>.</p><p>"We did have a Green Lantern scene in the movie that the studio asked me to take out that I did also shoot here in the driveway with an amazing actor who was going to play John Stewart," Snyder added. "Then the studio, when they saw the movie, and they saw that I had done every single thing that they had asked me not to do, we had come to a bit of a loggerhead."</p><p>There are many versions of the Green Lantern. Stewart was the first African American DC Comics superhero.</p><div type="image" title="green lantern john stewart" height="1229" width="800" msid="81657173" hostid="261"></div><p>Snyder said he didn't want to be "subversive and rude" in going against the studio's asks, but he wanted to stay true to what he promised fans. If he was going to make his vision for the film a reality, he didn't want to compromise.</p><p><a href="https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/movies/amp35886906/zack-snyder-cut-justice-league-interview/">In an interview with Esquire</a>, Snyder said he went as far as to tell the studio he would quit if they removed Green Lantern from his film.</p><p>The Green Lantern scene was supposed to play at the very end of the film. He was supposed to be the hero that Bruce Wayne interacted with, not the Martian Manhunter. </p><p>When the studio asked him to remove Green Lantern, part of Snyder's compromise was to add more of Martian Manhunter into the movie. </p><div type="image" title="snyder cut justice league martian manhunter" height="1452" width="2374" msid="81657175" hostid="261"></div><p>"In the negotiation, we got <a href="https://www.insider.com/justice-league-snyder-cut-how-joker-scene-was-made-2021-3">this Batman vs. Joker scene</a> out of it and then we also, I was like, 'Look, I'm not going to take a person of color out of the movie. Can I at least put Martian Manhunter now at the end of the movie?'"</p><p>Lennix told Insider he returned to film that final scene in <a href="https://www.insider.com/justice-league-zack-snyder-cut-martian-manhunter-harry-lennix-cameo">October 2020 from a green screen in New York</a>.</p><p>"That's why I had to reshoot that scene because the original version we had shot Ben's [Affleck] side in England," Snyder told the ReelBlend podcast. "We just didn't have a Green Lantern. It was green light all over [Ben] so I couldn't use it."</p><p>At a time when Hollywood has been challenged to have more representation on screen, Snyder was already asking to make those inroads.</p><p>"Zack Snyder's Justice League" is streaming now on HBO Max. I wanted to take it in, in context."</p><p>What did he think?</p><p>"Dare I say, I wish I could look like that all the time?" Lennix said of his character's comic accurate design. "I think it's beautiful ... As the fan, I'm trying not to jump through my skin, to say, 'Man, look at this!' I thought it was stunning."</p><p>While taking a break from developing the <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/theater/chris-jones/ct-ent-african-american-museum-arts-chicago-20201202-4iml2mv3y5eexlvuvvcbl4rowq-story.html">Lillian Marcie Center for the Performing Arts</a>, named after his mother and his mentor, Lennix spoke with Insider Tuesday to discuss <a href="https://www.insider.com/justice-league-zack-snyder-cut-martian-manhunter-harry-lennix-cameo">returning to the DC Extended Universe</a>, what it means to play a hero at this point of his career, and how he'd love to see Snyder get to complete his full vision for this film (<a href="https://www.insider.com/zack-snyders-justice-league-sequels-restore-the-snyderverse-campaign-2021-3">#RestoretheSnyderVerse</a>).</p><h2><strong>The 'Snyder Cut' never would have been possible if it wasn't for the failure of 2017's 'Justice League'</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="justice league" height="1448" width="2374" msid="81592920" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p><strong>Kirsten Acuna:</strong> Have you watched the final four-hour-and-two-minute "Snyder Cut"?</p><p><strong>Harry Lennix:</strong> I did. I even watched the last two minutes. I wanted to see all the credits. I had the pleasure last night. </p><p><strong>Acuna:</strong> Is that the film that you thought you were going to make in 2017?</p><p><strong>Lennix:</strong> No, I don't think anyone could have expected a four-hour <keyword id="6356021" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="movie">movie</keyword>. No studio in 2017 would have probably allowed it, but it all came together beautifully. I don't think it would have happened without the other movie coming out and the fans demanding it. </p><h2><strong>Lennix didn't know the 'Snyder Cut' existed until Jason Momoa said he saw it, nor that he was supposed to be Martian Manhunter.</strong></h2><div type="image" title="man of steel clark general swanwick" height="1071" width="2534" msid="81592921" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Acuna: I want to rewind the clock back and ask how long did you know that there was some other version of the film? Did you know since 2017?</strong></p><p><strong>Lennix:</strong> No, I did not. It might've been Jason Momoa, but somebody said that they'd seen the Snyder Cut and that sort of started ... the ball rolling with regards to, "Hey, release <em>that</em> cut." That's the real true vision, if you will, of what [Snyder] had in mind all the time. </p><p><strong>Acuna: Did you then go to someone and ask if this was a real thing?</strong></p><p><strong>Lennix:</strong> No, I didn't actually ... Because of the two-hour demand that the movie be cut down, my character got lost in the shuffle. So I wouldn't have been in it at all unless <keyword id="7849400" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="HBO-Max">HBO Max</keyword> had stepped in and Zack had stuck to his guns. So, I was extremely surprised by it. It was the happiest surprise - something I never expected in my career. So that's really great; to be a superhero at my time and career. I didn't even know at the time that ... I was going to be Martian Manhunter. So that was all a wonderful surprise to me.</p><h2><strong>He learned the 'Snyder Cut' was happening with the rest of us and then received a text from Snyder</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="martian manhunter storyboard" height="967" width="1080" msid="81592922" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p><strong>Acuna: What was your reaction when you learned Zack was going to be able to complete his version of the film? Do you remember where you were and how you found out?</strong></p><p><strong>Lennix:</strong> I had no idea. I did not know anything beforehand. I found out when everybody else found out. I think my immediate reaction, and I put this on my social media, I said, "Things don't just happen, things happen just." And I believe that's the case of this. This was, in some way, even a surprise to Zack that somebody would have said, "Yes, you can make a movie." </p><p><strong>Acuna: Take me through what the call was like when you found out the original vision for the film would be restored and that you would have a very important cameo in here as Martian Manhunter.</strong></p><p><strong>Lennix: </strong>Zack, from time to time, will send me a text and I think this one basically said, "Hey, do you want to come and play?" [Laughter] I said, "Man, anytime." Listen, I would to just be in the arena. I would have loved to have been just a spectator.</p><p>He doesn't realize what a big deal he is [going], "Hey man, I'm working on this thing. I want you to come in. Would you be willing to do this?" I said, "Man, with you, I would go to the Gates of Hell and back."</p><p>I like working with him a lot. It's always a very easy conversation, never takes a whole lot of time. It's never forced. It's never anything other than just a pleasure to talk to him. I like him as a guy and love him as a filmmaker.</p><h2><strong>Lennix welcomes Snyder completing his vision while carrying forth with studio films already in place</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="snyder cut justice league martian manhunter" height="1452" width="2374" msid="81592923" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p><strong>Acuna: Zack has spoken about how they had a three-part plan for "Justice League." The "Snyder Cut" ends with you on a cliff-hanger. There's apparently artwork down in Dallas, showcasing some of what this trilogy would have entailed. Do you know what your character story or future would have looked like? </strong></p><p><strong>Lennix: </strong>I do not. I heard him talking about this the other day on a podcast. He said something to the effect of he had it all worked out in his mind. It's evolved a bit because stories do. They evolve as things happen in real life, in real time. Sometimes you're going to incorporate the current with the thing that was already set. So I don't know what the plans may be for the character.</p><p>I have not gone down to Dallas to check it out, but maybe one day. My wife's family is down in that part of the country. I would love to know just because I'm a big fan of the character now and I'm a huge fan of Zack.</p><p>This is something that I hope gets some more momentum behind it, this idea that maybe he could even, dare we hope, finish his vision for this narrative that he's got in his head. It is worthy of the time and resource ... that this film, this version, will get the love that it deserves. It changes the game in many ways. Who knows? I don't think this is the end of the story. I'll put it that way.</p><p><strong>Acuna: HBO Max has a dilemma on its hands. I don't see how fans watch this and don't want more. You also have the current continuation of whatever the DC films are, but I don't see why you can't have both. We have the "Arrowverse" on TV and probably 15 different versions of Batman in the comics. Fans are well aware that there can be differences and that they can co-exist.</strong></p><p><strong>Lennix:</strong> Yeah, that's right. This is our new, in many ways, our new myth. This is the narrative of a nation in many ways, not just the United States, but it does somehow represent the ethos of our culture ... There's some 45,000 denominations of Christianity. If that could be the case that people could actually form and do entire reformations based on a few words here and there in scripture, if people have radically different ideas to go to war over these things, then it should not surprise us, that our national sort of mythology would have differences of opinion and approach and that they could be sustained. </p><p><strong>Acuna: What an argument! </strong><strong>Have you seen the next hashtag fans are already starting to rally behind, #RestoretheSnyderVerse? Do you have any thoughts on that?</strong></p><p><strong>Lennix:</strong> I think the fans have proven that it is now QED [quod erat demonstrandum] that they have a lot of power and I think that a little bit more persuading is not something that will be difficult to find here. I think they can absolutely move mountains. And, why not this one? This one would actually would be a fairly easy lift, I think at this point.</p><h2><strong>Lennix admits he hasn't read any of </strong><strong>the </strong><strong>Martian Manhunter comics</strong></h2><div type="image" title="harry lennix" height="2000" width="3000" msid="81592924" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Acuna: You mentioned that you didn't originally know a lot about the character. Have you since done a deep dive? Have you picked up any comics or are you doing some homework in case they do call you back? </strong></p><p><strong>Lennix: </strong>I haven't looked at any of the comics yet. I wouldn't even know where to find them. On the internet, I put some time into finding out who this person is, John Jones, and figuring out what his powers are. They vary as you suggest, from time to time. He's a very interesting person. I know there was a war on his planet. I know all kinds of stuff. I know he likes Oreo cookies that he was introduced to by Shazam. I've enjoyed getting to know more about him and hope I have cause to learn even more, frankly.</p><p><strong>Acuna: I use Comixology, but I'm pretty sure you can just ask [chief creative officer of DC Comics] Jim Lee. I think he would send you all of the Martian Manhunter comics that you needed.</strong> <br /><br /><strong>Lennix:</strong> Oh really? <br /><br /><strong>Acuna: I mean, probably? You just got to send Zack the text and say, "I need the Martian Manhunter comics."</strong><br /><br /><strong>Lennix:</strong> I will. I would say that's a good thing. Now, you know, of course, I wouldn't want to do that in any premature way. I don't want to get all set up and then they go and take some other guy to play the -<br /><br /><strong>Acuna: Oh my gosh. Why would they? Zack had to hear your voice and then be like, "Oh yeah, that makes sense for you to be J'onn J'onzz."</strong><br /><br /><strong>Lennix: </strong>Yeah. I can confirm that Zack likes my voice, for some reason [laughter].</p><h2><strong>Playing Martian Manhunter is a 'childhood dream come true' for Lennix</strong></h2><div type="image" title="harry lennix zack snyder" height="1995" width="3000" msid="81592925" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Acuna: You didn't originally know that you were going to play Martian Manhunter. What does it mean to you to play a superhero and what do you hope that the viewers get out of seeing Martian Manhunter on screen, finally?</strong></p><p><strong>Lennix: </strong>I think my immediate reaction was it's a childhood dream come true. Right? So, in some way, the little boy in me is over the moon that I'm in it at all and that I was even in "Man of Steel," to be honest with you. I always loved Superman. I remember seeing the Christopher Reeve versions ... Even being in it, looking across the camera at Superman, Henry's Superman, for example, is a wonderful sort of childhood dream come to life.</p><p>As an adult, however, I even have more value for it because I believe that we all need these characters, now. <br /><br />We all have a need, a cause, an urgency to believe. I see that this can be restorative in some way. It could be a kind of cure for cynicism, a cure for a hopelessness in a very depressed time that we're coming out of ... Whatever the challenges are, we, as a people, can conquer anything if we can just come together. Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot then <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ben-affleck-gal-gadot-call-justice-league-snyder-cut-release-2019-11">threw their support behind it in November 2019 on the two-year anniversary of the theatrical release</a>.</p><p>"I didn't have any kind of indication that it existed until somebody in the movie, one of the 'Justice League' [members], actually sort of sneaked that out there, but I'm glad he did," said Lennix.</p><h2><strong>Returning to play Martian Manhunter was the happiest surprise in Lennix's career</strong></h2><div type="image" title="harry lennix martian manhunter justice league" height="2160" width="2880" msid="81578054" hostid="261"></div><p>Lennix's General Swanwick was supposed to be in the original theatrical cut. Some <a href="https://static3.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/aquaman-unite-the-seven.jpg?q=50&amp;fit=crop&amp;w=740&amp;h=11110&amp;h=1111">original posters for the 2017 film</a> had always teased seven heroes instead of six, hence the "unite the seven" movie campaign. </p><p>A studio mandate from Warner Bros. to shorten the film changed that.</p><p>"I was all set to go to London to start shooting on the movie back in 2016," Lennix said, adding that the studio's demand to make "Justice League" two hours originally cut him out of the movie: "My character got lost in the shuffle."</p><p>If it weren't for HBO Max stepping in, Lennix said he wouldn't be in the movie at all. He didn't even see his finished character on-screen until watching the final cut of the film with his wife. He loved it, saying, "I wish I could look like that all the time. I think it's beautiful."</p><p>The road to Lennix playing a superhero was a long one. The actor didn't know the plans for him to play a superhero when he first joined 2013's "Man of Steel." In fact, he still didn't know Snyder's idea to make him J'onn J'onzz until he returned to work on the "Snyder Cut."</p><p>Becoming Martian Manhunter was "a wonderful surprise."</p><h2><strong style="background-color: #ffffff;">The small moment in 'Man of Steel' that hinted at Martian Manhunter years ago</strong></h2><div type="image" title="man of steel clark general swanwick" height="1071" width="2534" msid="81574733" hostid="261"></div><p>Though Lennix wasn't aware at the time, Snyder always appeared to have Lennix in the back of his mind to play a larger role - even during "Man of Steel."</p><p>Lennix recalled a scene that they filmed for the movie which hints that General Swanwick was, in fact, the iconic hero from Mars all along.</p><p>The moment, which takes place one-hour and 12 minutes into the film, occurs when Clark Kent/Superman is taken in by the US Air Force. High-ranking military figures watch him interact with Lois Lane in an interrogation room behind a glass panel. While Superman isn't supposed to be able to see them, he can because of his many powers.</p><div type="image" title="superman man of steel" height="1067" width="2482" msid="81574734" hostid="261"></div><p>When Superman rises from the interrogation table and snaps off his handcuffs, it causes the military figures to back away from the glass, except for Swanwick, who steps forward.</p><p>"I wish I could say that I had an inkling of it, but my belief is that the 'Man of Steel' piece where I am standing opposite Superman on the other side of that two-way glass ... I think it was at that moment that I asked Zack, 'Should I actually hold my ground here or back away from the glass, like everybody else is?'" said Lennix.</p><p>"He, at that point said, 'No, I think you stand your ground. I even think you step forward a little.' And, I think it was in that conversation that the idea may have actually taken root in his mind," Lennix said of making General Swanwick the Martian Manhunter. </p><div type="image" title="superman handcuff flinch man of steel" height="1509" width="1200" msid="81574735" hostid="261"></div><p>When you watch the scene now, it plays as if Swanwick might have a superhuman power because he knows he can go toe-to-toe with Superman.</p><p>In 2019, Snyder <a href="https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2481653/zack-snyder-confirms-the-major-martian-manhunter-reveal-planned-for-justice-league">shared his original storyboards for the Martha Kent and Lois Lane scene</a>, seen in 2021's "Snyder Cut," which would have revealed Lennix as the superhero on Vero.</p><p>Lennix <a href="https://twitter.com/HarryJLennix/status/1349449680107626497">shared the storyboard drawing</a> of himself as Martian Manhunter on Twitter in January, celebrating that he would play the hero.</p><div type="image" title="martian manhunter storyboard" height="967" width="1080" msid="81574736" hostid="261"></div><h2><strong>Lennix filmed his new scenes for 'Zack Snyder's Justice League' in August and October 2020</strong></h2><p>Technically, there's only one completely new scene that was filmed for the "Snyder Cut," which was Bruce Wayne's dream where <a href="https://www.insider.com/justice-league-snyder-cut-how-joker-scene-was-made-2021-3">Batman and the Joker speak with one another for the first time</a>. </p><p>But Lennix also filmed scenes so he could be put into the new version of the movie.</p><p>"I did most of my work off of a green screen," Lennix said of the Martha Kent/Bruce Wayne scenes. "I did two-part days. There was one day I went in August and did the scene at the elevator and then I did the other scene with Ben Affleck. I did that sometime in October."</p><p>Lennix said he shot the scene on green screen in a studio in New York. At the time, he was back on set of "The Blacklist," which is currently filming.</p><p>"They just put me in, digitally," Lennix said of how the final moments of the film came together. "It's pretty, pretty amazing what they can do now."</p><h2>Lennix doesn't know what Martian Manhunter's future character arc is, but thinks it's possible we could see more</h2><div type="image" title="harry lennix" height="2000" width="3000" msid="81574738" hostid="261"></div><p>"I don't know what the plans may be for the character," Lennix said when asked if Snyder told him anything about his character arc. </p><p>An official exhibit <a href="https://www.dmagazine.com/arts-entertainment/2021/03/ahead-of-justice-league-release-att-opens-the-snydercut-in-downtown-dallas/">for the film in Dallas, Texas</a>, which opened in March, has Snyder's plans for two "Justice League" sequels on display.</p><p>"I have not gone down to Dallas to check it out," Lennix said. "My wife's family is down in that part of the country. I would love to know just because I'm a big fan of the character now, even though I knew not much about him, and I'm a huge fan of Zack."</p><p>The "Snyder Cut" ends on a massive cliff-hanger with the arrival of Martian Manhunter making himself known to the Justice League, warranting a sequel. Lennix says he thinks the fans have a good chance of getting a sequel off the ground. </p><p>"I think the fans have proven that they have a lot of power," Lennix said when asked his thoughts on a new hashtag, #RestoretheSnyderVerse, that fans have started using to demand more of Snyder's vision.</p><p>"I think the fans can absolutely move mountains," Lennix added. Then the film ends. </p><p>The "Snyder Cut," in theory, was supposed to be a one-off, but a current <a href="https://www.dmagazine.com/arts-entertainment/2021/03/ahead-of-justice-league-release-att-opens-the-snydercut-in-downtown-dallas/">official exhibit in Dallas, Texas</a> for the film showcases Snyder's vision for two more sequels.</p><p>In an interview with Insider, Lennix said he doesn't know what his character arc would have been in any further movies and that he hasn't yet checked out the exhibit in Dallas, but he believes we could see more from this world.</p><div type="image" title="snyder cut justice league martian manhunter" height="1452" width="2374" msid="81572485" hostid="261"></div><p>"This is something that I hope gets some more momentum behind it," Lennix told Insider of any potential "Justice League" sequels. "This idea that maybe he could even, dare we hope, finish his vision for this narrative that he's got in his head."</p><p>"I think it is worthy of the time and resource," Lennix continued. "I think that this film, this version, will get the love that it deserves. I think it changes the game in many ways. And so who knows? I don't think this is the end of the story. I'll put it that way."</p><p>HBO Max may very well have a dilemma on its hands after the film's release because fans may demand a sequel. </p><div type="image" title="justice league" height="1448" width="2374" msid="81572489" hostid="261"></div><p>Warner Bros. and DC have moved forward with its own continuity on the big screen. Matt Reeves is working on a new, separate Batman <keyword id="6356021" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="movie">movie</keyword> with Robert Pattinson. </p><p>When presented with the idea that we can't have more than one DC film universe co-exist at the same time, Lennix mentioned how there are <a href="https://www.livescience.com/christianity-denominations.html">more than 40,000 denominations of Christianity</a> that manage to co-exist.</p><p>"If that could be the case that people could actually form and to do entire reformations based on a few words here and there in scripture, if people have radically different ideas to go to war over these things, then it should not surprise us that our national sort of mythology would have differences of opinion and approach and that they could be sustained," Lennix concluded.</p><p>The world can probably handle a few different versions of the DC Extended Universe. It's already been proven by the existence of television's CW Arrowverse, WB's billion-dollar Oscar winner "Joker," and DC's animated "Harley Quinn" series.</p><div type="image" title="harley batman joker" height="600" width="1200" msid="81572491" hostid="261"></div><p>Before the film's release on HBO Max, fans already started tweeting their support for the streaming service to let Snyder complete his trilogy using the hashtag, #RestoretheSnyderVerse.</p><p>Lennix told Insider he thinks its in the fan's hands now if they want to see more from this world. </p><p>"I think the fans have proven that it is now QED [quod erat demonstrandum], that they have a lot of power," Lennix told Insider over the phone when asked his thoughts on the "Restore the SnyderVerse" hashtag.</p><p>"I think that a little bit more persuading is not something that will be difficult to find here," he added. "I think they can absolutely move mountains. And why not this one? This one would actually would be a fairly easy lift, I think at this point."</p><p>"Zack Snyder's Justice League," also starring Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot, is airing on HBO Max now.</p>

Harry Lennix says fans could get potential sequels to 'Zack Snyder's Justice League': 'I don't think this is the end of the story'

But, one day at a time, as they say."</p><p>For now, Snyder and the "Army" crew are busy with two very different prequels. </p><p>The first, a full-length feature called "Army of Thieves," is a live-action heist film which takes place during the early days of the zombie apocalypse. Matthias Schweighöfer will reprise his role as Ludwig Dieter and also serve as director. <ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="7849400" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="HBO-Max">HBO Max</keyword>'s "<keyword id="10813122" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Zack-Snyders-Justice-League">Zack Snyder's Justice League</keyword>" has been well-received by fans.</li><li>Though it ends on a cliff-hanger, WarnerMedia currently has no plans for a sequel.</li><li>Fans tell Insider why they will continue their mission to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse.</li></ul><p>Will Rowlands was tuned into <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/zack-snyder">Zack Snyder</a>'s "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/critics-are-wrong-man-of-steel-isnt-a-giant-brood-fest-2013-6">Man of Steel</a>" watch party last May, wondering if the director was finally going to announce what he and other fans had waited years to hear.</p><p>After rallying since late 2017 for Warner Bros. to release the "Snyder cut," Rowlands, an actor and longtime supporter of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign, watched on Vero with other fans as Snyder <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/justice-league-snyder-cut-is-coming-to-hbo-max-2020-5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revealed a poster for "Zack Snyder's Justice League."</a></p><p>Snyder and his producing partner and wife, Deborah Snyder, previously <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2017/05/zack-snyder-justice-league-family-tragedy-joss-whedon">stepped down from the theatrical cut in 2017</a> following their daughter's death and a <a href="https://heroichollywood.com/zack-snyder-justice-league-runtime-warner-bros-joke/">studio mandate to keep the superhero film to two hours</a>. As a result, <a href="https://www.insider.com/deborah-snyder-justice-league-zack-snyder-cut-joss-whedon-2021-3">controversial director</a> Joss Whedon ("The Avengers") took over, rewriting and <a href="https://www.indiewire.com/2019/12/justice-league-cinematographer-joss-whedon-zack-snyder-footage-1202194549/">heavily reshooting the film</a>.</p><p>Now, Snyder was finally going to see his original vision for the film through - something unheard of in Hollywood.</p><div type="image" title="zack snyder justice league cut" height="675" width="1200" msid="81888876" hostid="261"></div><p>"It was a surreal moment," Rowlands told Insider. "It's like, you've won the battle."</p><p>"But something inside me was thinking, what if they screw him again?" he added.</p><p>Fast-forward nearly a year later, leading up to the release of "<keyword id="442750" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Zack-Snyder">Zack Snyder</keyword>'s <keyword id="254726" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Justice-League">Justice League</keyword>" was a bit of a disaster. Part of the film strangely leaked <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/justice-league-surprises-some-hbo-max-subscribers-with-accidental-debut">on HBO Max 10 days early when some users started streaming "Tom and Jerry."</a> The mistake was fixed the same day.</p><p>On March 15, the night of the film's virtual premiere, technical difficulties delayed screening links to fans and media for nearly six hours. </p><div type="image" title="justice league premiere emails " height="1777" width="1191" msid="81888878" hostid="261"></div><p>More than four hours after the film's virtual premiere was set to begin, there was still no solution. Snyder tweeted out a simple, "<a href="https://twitter.com/ZackSnyder/status/1371644253802143747">I have no words. Still waiting for info. So sorry</a>." </p><p>Screening links were finally accompanied with a note saying in part, "we want to express our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused by this delay."</p><p>The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-justice-league-snyder-cut-movement-got-momentum-joker-momoa-2019-10">#ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign</a>, in theory, was supposed to die out after the film's release on March 18. The opposite happened.</p><p>Snyder was allowed to end the film <a href="https://www.insider.com/justice-league-zack-snyder-cut-martian-manhunter-harry-lennix-cameo">on a cliff-hanger</a> with a villain preparing to invade Earth. (The film was always <a href="https://www.insider.com/zack-snyder-justice-league-sequel-plot-details-2021-3">intended to go on for another two movies</a>). In doing so, it opened the door for fans to ask for a sequel.</p><p>Still, before too many fans could start demanding a sequel, WarnerMedia Studios CEO Ann Sarnoff told Variety <a href="https://www.insider.com/warnermedia-zack-snyders-justice-league-wont-get-sequels-2021-3">none were happening </a>despite their parent company, AT&amp;T, putting storyboards for sequels on <a href="https://www.dmagazine.com/arts-entertainment/2021/03/ahead-of-justice-league-release-att-opens-the-snydercut-in-downtown-dallas/">display in an official exhibit in Texas</a>. Variety added that the studio wants to "<a href="https://variety.com/2021/film/news/zack-snyder-justice-league-suicide-squad-ray-fisher-warnermedia-1234935580/">move past the social media campaign</a>."</p><p>That <a href="https://www.insider.com/warnermedia-zack-snyders-justice-league-wont-get-sequels-2021-3">hasn't sat well with fans</a>. </p><p>Though the company may believe it satisfied the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement by releasing the long-fabled "Snyder cut," it's unclear how anyone could watch the four-hour <keyword id="6356021" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="movie">movie</keyword> and think fans would be placated.</p><p>Now, a movement WarnerMedia thought it could move past is evolving, growing, and shows no signs of slowing down until they either get the sequels they want or Snyder tells fans that he's moving on.</p><h2><strong>#ReleaseTheSnyderCut quickly became #RestoreTheSnyderVerse</strong></h2><div type="image" title="zack snyders justice league" height="2160" width="2880" msid="81888880" hostid="261"></div><p>Fans have tweeted about Snyder's "Justice League" non-stop since the first screening links became available March 15, with many saying this is the version of the film they wished they received years ago. The movie currently sits at 72% on <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/zack_snyders_justice_league">Rotten Tomatoes with a 95% audience score</a>. (In contrast, the 2017 film <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/justice_league_2017">has a 40% critic rating and 71% approval from fans</a>.)</p><p>"It's 10/10 for me. I remember leaving the theater in 2017 angry, feeling robbed of something," Alex Trevari told Insider. "This movie exists. And I never thought it would. And that's pretty special."</p><p>"It's perfect," Cole, one half of "<a href="https://linktr.ee/TheNerdQueens">The Nerd Queens</a>," two longtime friends and members of the #ReleasetheSnyderCut campaign, told Insider. "Some people have said they have complaints, but I can't think of a single one except the fact that I need more."</p><div type="image" title="zsjl reax " height="2400" width="1200" msid="81888881" hostid="261"></div><p>Now, instead of asking for the "Snyder cut," they're asking for HBO Max and WB to restore Snyder's trilogy. </p><p>A social media campaign on March 25 had the #RestoreTheSnyderVerse hashtag trending <a href="https://www.cbr.com/justice-league-restorethesnyderverse-campaign-million-tweets/">worldwide on Twitter with well over 1.4 million tweets in 24 hours</a>. </p><p>Although WarnerMedia hasn't released streaming figures on how many people watched "Zack Snyder's Justice League" opening weekend, according to one third-party analytics company, Samba TV, <a href="https://deadline.com/2021/03/justice-league-snyder-cut-wonder-woman-1984-hbo-max-viewership-1234720662/">1.8 million US households watched at least five minutes of the film opening weekend on HBO Max</a>. (That number <a href="https://observer.com/2021/04/justice-league-hbo-max-ratings-viewership-subscribers-netflix-disneyplus-amazon/">doesn't count non-television devices</a>.)</p><p>The viewership numbers alone make a pretty strong case to continue Snyder's vision.</p><p>"I think they'd be stupid financially to not continue because they've got products now that can go exclusively [to] HBO Max," Rowlands said, adding that it gives consumers a big reason to stay with the streaming service. </p><div type="image" title="zack snyder restore the snyderverse response" height="1507" width="828" msid="81888882" hostid="261"></div>But WarnerMedia appears to be trying to wash its hands of Snyder, instead focusing on its own original film slate to put "<a href="https://variety.com/2021/film/news/zack-snyder-justice-league-suicide-squad-ray-fisher-warnermedia-1234935580/">different voices in the mix.</a>"<p>Snyder told Deadline that Warner Bros. <a href="https://deadline.com/2021/03/zack-snyder-justice-league-cut-interview-ray-fisher-cyborg-joss-whedon-hbo-max-1234716917/">considers the 2017 cut of the film canon</a>. Since "Zack Snyder's Justice League," release, Warner Bros. has ramped up promotion for its upcoming "<a href="https://www.insider.com/james-gunn-the-suicide-squad-cast">The Suicide Squad</a>" film with new trailers and The Rock's <a href="https://www.insider.com/what-is-black-adam-movie-the-rock">"Black Adam" film</a> with casting news. A lot of fans saw the timing of these announcements as ways to deride and silence chatter about the "Snyder cut." </p><p>Rowlands says there's no reason they can't have both the SnyderVerse and separate DECU films, reiterating something one of the film's stars, <a href="https://www.insider.com/zack-snyders-justice-league-sequels-restore-the-snyderverse-campaign-2021-3">Harry Lennix, who plays Martian Manhunter, told Insider.</a> </p><p>In part, the actor said that "it should not surprise us that our national sort of mythology would have differences of opinion and approach and that they could be sustained."</p><h2><strong>The movement continues to grow as #RestoreTheSnyderVerse becomes more mainstream</strong></h2><div type="image" title="aquaman cyborg the flash zack snyder justice league" height="2160" width="2880" msid="81888884" hostid="261"></div><p>Fans told Insider that after the film's release, they noticed people who may not have been aware of the #ReleasetheSnyderCut movement, or who were but didn't previously participate, were suddenly taking notice.</p><p>"It's gone more mainstream and the demand is only going to grow," Rowlands told Insider of people inquiring about the "Snyder cut" on social media, at times unaware the four-hour film <a href="https://www.insider.com/zack-snyder-justice-league-cut-removes-cringeworthy-scenes-women">was different from the 2017 version</a>. </p><p>"We have people who have never been that interested and invested in the fight coming to us [asking], 'Hey, what can I do to help you get the next one?" Sarnoff recently called out parts of the fandom for <a href="https://variety.com/2021/film/news/zack-snyder-justice-league-suicide-squad-ray-fisher-warnermedia-1234935580/">"reprehensible" behavior towards executives</a>, saying they will not tolerate it.</p><p>Still, for a large contingent of fans, it's become a source of community and, sometimes, a life-saving one at that, especially during the isolation of the pandemic. </p><p>"It's meant so much to me," Dominic from Estonia, who's been a part of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement since 2018, told Insider over Twitter.</p><p>"2018-19 (and even since) has been the hardest period of my personal life and this movement quickly became a family and gave me something to hope in, believe in, and fight for. I can't quite describe how this last year has felt in terms of vindication and celebration," he added.</p><div type="image" title="zack snyder times square billboard" height="600" width="1200" msid="81888889" hostid="261"></div>The movement was never about just getting a movie made. As Sean O'Connell notes in his book, "<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Release-Snyder-Cut-Snyders-Justice/dp/1493059033">Release The Snyder Cut</a>," it was about righting a wrong to Snyder and allowing the director to see his original vision through. <p>Rowlands said everyone who tweeted for the film didn't do it from a selfish place. While he helped raise funds for <a href="https://www.indiewire.com/2019/07/release-snyder-cut-billboards-san-diego-comic-con-photos-1202158171/">billboards and signs at San Diego Comic-Con</a> and a <a href="https://in.ign.com/movie/140151/news/release-the-snyder-cut-fans-buy-times-square-billboards-during-nycc">Times Square ad</a> during 2019's New York Comic Con, any extra money went to charity.</p><p>By December 2020, the movement <a href="https://screenrant.com/justice-league-zack-snyder-cut-afsp-donations-response/">raised over $500,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention</a> in honor of Snyder's daughter who died by suicide.</p><p>"People say, Oh, they're just bullies and toxic and all that," Rowlands said. "It's not so much the movie itself as the money we've raised and the work that we do or try to do to raise awareness for this particular issue." </p><p>Other hashtags are calling for the release of David Ayer's directorial cut of 2016's "Suicide Squad," and other "Snyder cut" spinoffs, including an HBO Max "Deathstroke" series, featuring Manganiello and a solo Batman movie, featuring Ben Affleck.</p><div type="image" title="JusticeConLogo.PNG" height="1816" width="1242" msid="81888892" hostid="261"></div><p>Nana and Cole said they'll stop fighting to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse if and when the director says it's something he has no interest in pursuing further.</p><p>One of the hopes is that higher ups at AT&amp;T, which own WarnerMedia, will take notice and make a decision to greenlight Snyder's two remaining sequels from there. </p><p>"When we say 'Restore the SnyderVerse,' if [Snyder] supports it, if this is something he wants, then yes, we will be out there and we will be fighting for it, no matter what is at the end of it," Nana said. </p><p>"But if he says, you know, 'Hey, I don't want to do the superhero stuff anymore,' That's fine too," she continued. </p>

Lane leaves a coffee shop and gets her umbrella open before going out into the rain. You can see Snyder in the background sitting at one of the seats by the front window.</p><div type="image" title="zack snyder cut" height="710" width="947" msid="81594776" hostid="261"></div><p>"It's called Fred and Ginger Coffee and is a real coffee shop in Kings Langley," Snyder's publicist Bebe Lerner Baron told Insider. Zack Snyder has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in the 'Snyder cut'

<ul class="summary-list"><li>"<keyword id="10813122" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Zack-Snyders-Justice-League">Zack Snyder's Justice League</keyword>" debuts on <keyword id="7849400" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="HBO-Max">HBO Max</keyword> on Thursday.</li><li>The social app <keyword id="2301443" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="VeRO">Vero</keyword> was Snyder's platform of choice to connect with fans leading up to the movie.</li><li>Vero's CEO explained how the app played an essential role in making the "Snyder Cut" a reality.</li></ul><p>When Ayman Hariri walked onto the set of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" in 2015, he had no idea what the experience would mean for the next six years of his life.</p><p>Hariri is the founder and CEO of the social platform Vero, which played an essential role in making <a href="https://www.insider.com/deborah-snyder-justice-league-zack-snyder-cut-joss-whedon-2021-3">"Zack Snyder's Justice League"</a> a reality. The movie, which <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/zack-snyders-justice-league-release-date-details-hbo-max-2021-1">debuts on HBO Max on Thursday</a>, was born out of calls from Snyder's devoted fans to see his version on screen after the theatrical cut of "Justice League" disappointed financially and critically in 2017. Vero was Snyder's go-to platform to connect with those fans.</p><p>But when Hariri won a role as an extra in Snyder's "Batman v Superman" in 2015 through a charity auction, Vero hadn't launched yet (it would launch later that year).</p><p>After meeting Snyder, though, Hariri gave him a peek at the app and the two quickly formed a close friendship (a representative for Snyder confirmed this account). After Vero launched, Snyder became one of its biggest users, and his passionate fanbase followed him.</p><div type="image" title="zack snyder justice league" height="2160" width="2880" msid="81557009" hostid="261"></div><p>Snyder exited "Justice League" late into production after his daughter Autumn died by suicide in March 2017. Joss Whedon was brought in for significant reshoots, which fans say altered Snyder's original vision. Fans' appetite for the "Snyder Cut" intensified as Snyder regularly teased behind-the-scenes images and concept art on Vero, and the "Release the Snyder Cut" movement was born.</p><p>For instance, in October 2019, Snyder confirmed on Vero that his <a href="https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2481653/zack-snyder-confirms-the-major-martian-manhunter-reveal-planned-for-justice-league">initial plan</a> for actor Harry Lennix's character was for him to become the superhero Martian Manhunter. That December, he <a href="https://ew.com/movies/2019/12/04/zack-snyder-snyder-cut-photo/">fanned the flames</a> even more by posting an image on Vero that said "Is it real? Does it exist? Of course it does" referring to his cut of "Justice League."</p><p>"I choose to be on Vero because it allows me an honest and real interaction with my fans," Snyder told Insider through a representative.   </p><div type="image" title="Ayman Hariri vero" height="1310" width="988" msid="81557013" hostid="261"></div><p style="font-weight: 400;">Users can choose to publish individual posts to Vero publicly, in which all of a person's followers can see that content. They can also label connections as close friends, who can see everything, or friends and acquaintances, who see less. Hariri said that Vero also has a chronological feed rather than one based on an algorithm, which he said attracted Snyder.</p><p>Hariri said that Vero has over 5 million users. It's a small platform compared to social giants like Facebook and Twitter. But Hariri pushed back on the notion that it's a "niche" platform. He said it's not being built as a niche app, but "with niches in mind."</p><p>"I'd love to have more creators, whether filmmakers or other, come on Vero," Hariri said. "It's a part of how we think and the strategy of the company."</p><p>But even if Vero caters to creators, couldn't Snyder have just brought his audience to another platform and reached more people?</p><p>"I think there is a lot of noise on a lot of different platforms," Hariri said. "Those would present challenges for somebody wanting to create a certain momentum ... All I know is that Zack and [his wife and producing partner] Deborah both believe that Vero played a role in getting ['<keyword id="442750" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Zack-Snyder">Zack Snyder</keyword>'s Justice League'] made."</p><p>A representative for Snyder confirmed to Insider that the filmmaker regards Vero as being essential in getting "Zack Snyder's Justice League" off the ground.</p><h2>Restoring the SnyderVerse? Not so fast</h2><p>As the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-justice-league-snyder-cut-movement-got-momentum-joker-momoa-2019-10">"Release the Snyder Cut" movement gained momentum online</a>, "Justice League" <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ben-affleck-gal-gadot-call-justice-league-snyder-cut-release-2019-11">stars began joining calls</a> for Snyder's movie to see the light of day.</p><p>Aquaman actor Jason Momoa was the most vocal, saying in August 2019 that he had seen the cut<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/aquaman-jason-momoa-says-hes-seen-justice-league-snyder-cut-2019-8"> and that it was "sick."</a></p><p>Warner Bros., the studio behind "Justice League," repeatedly denied the movie's existence or that a cut would be released. But in May 2020, Snyder announced after a "Man of Steel" watch party on Vero that his cut of the film would debut in 2021.</p><p>Now the four-hour movie, which Snyder assembled from footage he shot before departing the project, will premiere on HBO Max on Thursday. </p><p>"It's very exciting to see him achieve his vision, especially after what he and his family have gone through," Hariri said.</p><div type="image" title="zack snyder's justice league" height="1460" width="2332" msid="81557016" hostid="261"></div><p>Hariri said he hasn't seen the movie yet and is waiting to watch it with his kids. In the meantime, Vero is celebrating the movie's release with a <a href="https://vero.co/site/zsjl">cosplay contest</a> judged by Snyder and "Zack Snyder's Justice League" costume designer Michael Wilkinson that runs through March 22.</p><p>But even with the release of the movie, fans are still clamoring for more.</p><p>The "#RestoretheSnyderVerse" hashtag has made the rounds on social <keyword id="6354777" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Media">media</keyword>, referring to Snyder's original vision that his "Justice League" be a two-part movie and lay the groundwork for the rest of the "DC Extended Universe." "Zack Snyder's Justice League" even <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/zack-snyder-justice-league-cliffhanger-ending-explained-despite-no-sequel">ends on a cliffhanger</a>.</p><p>But Warner Bros. and parent company <keyword id="6868021" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="WarnerMedia">WarnerMedia</keyword> have moved in a different direction with its DC movie franchise, and Snyder has expressed in interviews that he won't be involved in anymore DC movies.</p><p>"They [WarnerMedia] are 100% moving away," Snyder told <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/14/movies/zack-snyders-rough-and-tumble-ride-with-justice-league.html">The New York Times</a>. "They consider the theatrical cut of 'Justice League' as canon. That's their decision. I wish them all the best, and I hope the whole thing is a giant blockbuster on top of blockbuster on top of blockbuster."</p><p>Hariri isn't sure what Vero's involvement in any sort of continued movement would be. But as a fan, he wants to see more.</p><p>"Zack would be in charge of how he wants to move forward, but as a fan, I hope he continues because he has a vision and I'd love to see that vision continue," Hariri said.</p>

<p>There were some cheers from diehard fans who knew the line. When the <keyword id="7435" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Superman">Superman</keyword> logo appeared on screen, many people began yelling out. However, it wasn't until the unveiling of the Bat symbol that the entire room went absolutely haywire.</p>

Fans Went Absolutely Crazy, Screaming At The Announcement Of A Batman/Superman Movie

<p class="p1">Earlier this week, "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" director Zack Snyder revealed our <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/batman-v-superman-first-batmobile-photo-2014-9">first good look at the new Batmobile</a> that Ben Affleck's Dark Knight will ride around.</p>
<p class="p1">The car has received a lot of positive feedback looking like a mix between a few previous iterations of the Batmobile including Christopher Nolan's Tumbler, the classic shape of the model used in the <a href="http://batman.wikia.com/wiki/Batmobile_(Burton_Films)">1989 film</a>, and the tank version used in Frank Miller's 1986 "<a href="http://farefilm.it/sites/default/files/Fotogallery-in-node/miller-batmobile.jpg">The Dark Knight Returns</a>" series.</p>
<p class="p1">Some Batfans may have noticed one thing on the car that goes against the Caped Crusader's one rule. Can you spot it?</p>

<p class="p1">Historically, Batman's one rule has always been "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIux476XgmA">no guns</a>." This stems from the fact that his parents were gunned down and murdered in an alleyway in front of him while he was young. </p>

<p class="p1">Of course, when the character first appeared in the comics, this wasn't always the case. Early versions of Batman show him with a gun, before his character was really established.</p>

<p class="p1">However, the Caped Crusader is known for his detective skills and ability to fight crime without resulting to bullets. There are countless times we've seen versions of the Bat break guns so it's weird to see his latest vehicle with added artillery. </p>
<p class="p1">So what's the deal? Is Batman going to start killing? Is Zack Snyder giving us a very different version of the Dark Knight?</p>
<p class="p1">Not necessarily.</p>
<p class="p1">It's not the first time the Batmobile has some added muscle to his car.</p>
<p class="p1">Tim Burton's 1989 batmobile had two machine guns mounted on the vehicle.</p>

<p class="p1">And while Burton's version of the film may have seen Batman use guns on both his car and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zz7tNgsIf-g">Batwing plane to take down some of Gotham's underworld</a> including the Joker, added machinery to the Dark Knight's vehicle has mostly been for non-lethal use.</p>
<p class="p1">The vehicle featured in the Emmy-winning "Batman: The Animated Series" featured a missile rack. The more military-style Tumbler in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" trilogy also had a missile launcher and a dual-barreled cannon but weren't used to harm individuals.</p>

<p class="p1">The latest design for the Batmobile in the next Batman video game, "Arkham Knight," shows off a slew of guns which are meant to be non-violent:<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> immobilizer missiles, a Vulcan gun, a 60mm cannon, and a riot suppressor gun with rubber bullets.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The guns on the newest Batmobile shouldn't come as a surprise. </span></p>
<p class="p1"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">When Snyder first <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/batman-superman-movie-warner-bros-announces-2013-7">announced the new "Batman V Superman" film</a> he introduced it by having "Man of Steel" actor Harry Lennix read a passage from classic Batman graphic novel "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Batman-The-Dark-Knight-Returns/dp/1563893428">The Dark Knight Returns.</a>" </span></p>
<p class="p1">The comic shows an older Batman come out of retirement and reprise his role as the Dark Knight. While Snyder <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">has previously said he <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/what-ben-affleck-batman-will-be-like-2013-9">will not be adapting the four-part graphic novel</a>, it's clear he's drawing some inspiration from the story which features Batman going up against Superman.</span></p>

<p>During the Superman 75th Anniversary panel at Comic-Con <a href="http://comicbook.com/blog/2013/07/22/batman-superman-movie-title-revealed-to-be-batman-vs-superman/" target="_blank">Comicbook.com</a> reports "Man of Steel"<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> screenwriter David S. Goyer revealed the two names.</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span>"So over in Hall H at the Warner Bros., I guess most people know now, at the end of the Warner Bros. panel Zack came out and he brought Harry Lennix, who plays General Swanwick in Man of Steel and we –- actually, Harry read a bit from [</span><em>The Dark Knight Returns</em><span>] and so the next film we’re making, we’re already in pre-production, comes out in summer of 2015. We’re actually not sure whether the title is </span><em>Superman vs. Batman </em><span>or </span><em>Batman vs. Superman</em><span> but yes, it’s –- that rematch, that combination, the two guys onscreen and that’s happening."</span></p>
<p>A lot of people missed out on the news because the "X-Men: Days of Future Past" panel was taking place <span>simultaneously.</span></p>

<p>It looks like Warner Bros. may be leaning toward the latter. The studio hasn't <a href="http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/07/23/batman-superman-sequel-dc-title/" target="_blank">made any comment</a>.</p>
<p>The title's pretty uninspiring. </p>
<p>Part of the creative process behind first Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy and then Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" was that they didn't use the generic names for the superheroes like "Iron Man" and "Hulk." </p>
<p>That's what set the DC universe apart at the box office from Marvel.</p>
<p>When Warner Bros. first considered a Batman / Superman movie — teased in 2007 — it was also aimed to be called "<a href="http://movieline.com/2012/02/28/exclusive-book-excerpt-how-batman-vs-supermans-development-hell-gave-way-to-batman-begins/" target="_blank">Batman vs. Superman</a>." </p>
<p>According to David Hughes book "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Tales-From-Development-Hell-Greatest/dp/0857687239" target="_blank">Tales from Development Hell</a>," the failed "Batman Vs. Superman" project paved the way for the Nolan's trilogy.</p>
<p>Warner Bros. has always had a difficult time putting the right label on any project between its two biggest superheroes. </p>

Sometimes, the movie is referred to as "World's Finest" — a comic series featuring the two heroes. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">In 2002, comic series </span><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Superman-Batman-VOL-01-Enemies/dp/1401202209" target="_blank">Superman/Batman</a><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> was released. </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The more recent 2009 animated picture was called "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Superman-Batman-Enemies-Two-Disc-Special/dp/B0027FG2CG" target="_blank">Superman / Batman: Public Enemies</a>."</span></p>
<p>Of course, we understand why Warner Bros. would lean toward such a title. </p>
<p><span>Pitting superheroes against each other sounds like box-office gold to a general audience.</span></p>
<p><span>You can't use the "Dark Knight" title since that's reserved to Nolan's trilogy. </span></p>
<p><span>And Warner Bros. can't exactly call the film "Caped Crusader Meets Son of Krypton."</span></p>
<p><span>The easiest way for people to identify with the film is to have the names of the two superheroes in the title. How do you do that without getting clunky?</span></p>
<p><span>Perhaps something like: "Batman &amp; Superman: Gotham City Crisis" (or Metropolis) or "Batman &amp; Superman: Blackest Night." Even "Batman &amp; Superman: No Man's Land" makes sense.</span></p>
<p>These titles of course are presuming there's a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lex_Luthor" target="_blank">Lex Luthor connection</a> in the "Man of Steel" sequel — which was <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/what-superman-reboot-man-of-steel-does-right-2013-6?#hints-at-whats-in-store-for-the-next-films-12" target="_blank">hinted in the film</a>. </p>

<p>"Man of Steel" actor Harry Lennix opened the panel quoting a line from Frank Miller's 1989 comic "The Dark Knight Returns" in which Bats says the iconic line:</p>
<p>"I want you to remember, Clark, in all the years to come. In all your private moments. I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember, the one man who beat you."</p>

<p>According to a press release from Warner Bros., t<span>he dynamic team of David S. Goyer, Christopher Nolan, and Snyder will join forces again to bring Supes and the new Batman to the big screen.</span></p>
<p>Here's the statement released from Warner Bros.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">On the heels of the worldwide success of "Man of Steel," director Zack Snyder is bringing together the two greatest Super Heroes of all time—Batman and Superman—for the first time on the big screen. The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.<br /><br />The current hit, "Man of Steel," has taken in more than $630 million at the worldwide box office to date, and climbing. Along with its star, Henry Cavill, the upcoming film brings back Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. The new Batman has yet to be cast.<br /><br />Snyder is co-writing the story with David S. Goyer, who will then pen the screenplay. Production is expected to begin in 2014, with an anticipated release date in Summer 2015.<br /><br />Silverman stated, "Zack Snyder is an incredibly talented filmmaker, but beyond that, he's a fan first and he utterly gets this genre. We could not think of anyone better suited to the task of bringing these iconic Super Heroes to the screen in his own way." The success of ‘Man of Steel' is a wonderful testament to the love and support that both fans and new audiences, worldwide, have for these characters. Let's face it, it's beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world."<br /><br />The new film brings back Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder as producers. This time, Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are serving as executive producers, along with Benjamin Melniker and Michael E. Uslan.<br /><br />Thomas offered, "Whilst our ‘Dark Knight' trilogy is complete, we have every confidence that Zack's fresh interpretation will take the character in a new and exciting direction.
