Salve won hearts when he led India’s charge against Pakistan at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the <keyword id="3298764" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kulbhushan-Jadhav">Kulbhushan Jadhav</keyword> case and what warmed everyone’s hearts was he charged just Re 1 for it. Salve, 61, who has a client list featuring Ambanis, Tatas including Ratan Tata, Vodafone and Mittals, had his tryst with legal career when he assisted his father in 1975 in Dilip Kumar’s case, according to the book Legal Eagles, which chronicles his life before he became successful. As a young boy, Salve never wanted to become a lawyer. Astonishing enough, Salve, who at one time also aspired to an engineer, always thought of pursuing chartered accountancy. “My father, however, had given up accountancy and did only income tax matters. This brought him in close proximity to Nani Palkhivala-perhaps the greatest advocate the country has ever known,” said Salve. Born in Nagpur, Salve at one time was studying law and chartered accountancy simultaneously. “My grandfather was a successful criminal lawyer. My father, N.K.P. Salve, was an eminent chartered accountant practising in Nagpur. My mother, Ambriti Salve, was a doctor. So at a very early age, I imbibed professional qualities and values from the two professionals at home,” he said. The UP government had informed the apex court that Dubey brutally massacred 8 policemen using 90 criminals of his gang and then mutilated their bodies. Dubey was serving a life sentence and he was out on parole when this massacre happened on July 2. On July 20, the apex court had told the Uttar Pradesh government that it is appalled that Vikas Dubey was released on bail despite so many cases against him and this shows the failure of the institution to keep someone like him behind bars. "If they have made certain statements and then something has followed, you should look into this," said the Chief Justice. The bench said it is appalled at the fact that a person like Dubey was let out on bail, and this shows failure of an institution. "We want an accurate report of all the orders," added the Chief Justice. The Chief Justice also added "What is at stake is not that one incident in UP. What is at stake is the whole system. Remember that." Senior advocate <keyword id="6372817" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="harish-salve">Harish Salve</keyword>, representing UP police, had contended before the bench that "we can't demoralise the police force". Chief Justice Bobde said: "Strengthen the rule of law and police force won't ever be demoralised." Chief Justice of India  criticizes Uttar Pradesh for releasing a criminal with 64 cases on bail

<keyword id="6356830" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nestle-India">Nestle India</keyword> on Thursday sought the <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword>'s nod for destroying 550 tonnes of <keyword id="6369404" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maggi">Maggi</keyword> stocks that have outlived their shelf life. 
 As senior counsel <keyword id="6372817" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Harish-Salve">Harish Salve</keyword> moved the plea before a bench of Justice Dipak Misra and Justice C. Nagappan, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) contended it needed to be consulted on this. 
 
As the FSSAI counsel raised an earlier issue of the destruction of evidence by the Nestle, Salve told the court this was an old allegation that was raised before the High Court. 
 
Salve told the bench that Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi had in the early hearing said that he was not interested in these issues and was only interested in the declarations of law. 
 
As lawyer for the FSSAI reiterated that he had to take instructions and Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi led the FSSAI before the court, the bench adjourned the hearing directing next hearing on September 30.

An eight-month investigation of over 36,000 files has revealed some shocking details. 
 
One of the largest data leaks in the history revealed how the world leaders hide their cash and the names of more than 500 Indians, who are linked to off-shore companies, also surfaced. 
 
The investigation by <a href="http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/panama-papers-list-amitabh-bachchan-kp-singh-aishwarya-rai-iqbal-mirchi-adani-brother/">The Indian Express</a> revealed that there were 234 Indian passports (handed over by clients as part of the incorporation process). 
 These records reveal a list of individuals who have paid the firm — and bought the benefits of the secretive, lax regulatory system in which it operates — to set up offshore entities in <keyword id="112952" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tax-havens">tax havens</keyword> around the world. 
 
The documents were leaked from the law firm Mossack Fonseca and connect to 140 politicians in more than 50 countries.

It led me down a flight of stairs and snaked past several homes before hitting a narrow street.I found my interview location quickly, mostly because Jiufen is so small that it's hard to get really lost.It's also precisely because Jiufen is so small that the millions of tourists — primarily daytrippers — making their way through its tiny alleyways each year overwhelm the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.moi.gov.tw/News_Content.aspx?n=2&amp;s=314712">1,600 residents</a> living here. There's nothing they could possibly want from here."The shops in the old street used to cater to residents' daily needs like groceries, food, clothes, and shoes but as the number of residents dwindled, they all closed one by one," said Tseng, referring to scenes from a Jiufen whose glory days were already over when she was born.Now, the shops in town are mostly geared toward tourists. Many residents make their way down the mountain for their grocery runs. The elderly wait for their kids to visit with their weekly hauls.On the old street today, there is just one OG shop selling braised pork buns, said Tseng. It was closed when I was in the area, but the owners of the shop used to cater all the events around Jiufen from weddings to other celebrations, she added.The shop now mainly caters to tourists.<h2 id="cc8d58a8-42b4-4072-926d-9efbdcf2a9e1">Tseng's Jiufen</h2>Born in 1988, Tseng spent her formative years in this tiny Jiufen where everyone knew everyone else.Her mother's family has been living in the area for six generations, she said. They were farmers before gold was discovered the area, sparking a rush that her grandfather, Tseng Shui-Chih, joined around 1949 at the age of 14.Like other gold miners of the time, he set up home in Jiufen, an area that's made up of three parallel streets and one intersecting street.<div type="image" title="Grandpa Tseng Shui-Chih during his days as a gold miner in Jiufen." height="640" width="480" msid="112554311" hostid="261" sizebytes="20640"></div>When the gold rush took hold, as many as <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.gep.ntpc.gov.tw/xmdoc/cont?xsmsid=0K259558079306285510&amp;sid=0K297800901867326634">50,000 people</a> lived in Jiufen at one point.But the gold mines shut by 1971 and the town fell into decline. The town's population tanked and the young people — like Tseng's mother — left to seek work elsewhere.Tseng was born in Taipei. She was sent to live with her grandparents a week later while her parents continued working at a garment factory in the capital. But it's far from the Jiufen of the past.Now shops close around 7 p.m., which Tseng said is "shocking" —because Jiufen used to be a town that never sleeps."What do you think miners used to do after work?" Tseng asked.It turns out the hard workers did what all hard workers do: eat, drink, be merry, and — in this case — gamble too: "It was like Las Vegas," she said.Since most shops on the old shopping street used to be run by residents who lived in the same spaces, they would also keep them open late into the night, Tseng said.In the 1990s, following the hype from "A City of Sadness," teahouses in Jiufen even operated into the wee hours of the morning to serve local tourists unwinding over the weekends. Tseng knows — because she used to work in one.Today, it can get eerily silent at night in Jiufen after the daytrippers leave — which is a different sort of charm in itself. However, it's just not the soul of Tseng's hometown.<h2 id="2be938bb-c2c8-4dfd-8051-7f3bc7f9361a">Launching a night tour business</h2>Tseng now hopes to revive some of the nocturnal buzz by running a night tour after daytrippers leave. It's a business as much as a salve for her own existential anxiety."As things I remember started disappearing, I began to doubt myself. I started to doubt if something I remember really existed in the first place," Tseng said. "I had to do something."She charges 400 New Taiwan Dollars, or $12.30, per person for the tour and can see as many as 25 people for each tour. A minimum of five people are required to form an English tour.The tour starts at the house she shares with her grandmother and uncle, which is also home to a gold ore museum. Founded by Grandpa Tseng, who died in 2012, the museum was what brought Tseng home in the same year.Before returning to Jiufen, Tseng spent her first two years after college in a few unrelated jobs. She taught Chinese in London, and worked two retail jobs in Taipei.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://jioufen-goldore-museum.mystrikingly.com">Tseng's private museum</a> is simple, with displays of metal ores and tools. At the entrance stands a mining cart with Grandpa Tseng's gear and tools. She charges 120 New Taiwan Dollars per visitor and requires a group of at least 10 people for the museum tour.Tseng doesn't appear to have figured out how to scale up her operations. She markets the tours mainly via local guesthouses. She said she wasn't even receiving a salary in her first decade back in Jiufen, but is driven by a deeper calling.During her tour, she tells stories about what the town used to be."If a place doesn't have memories and culture, the place will disappear. Jiufen wouldn't be Jiufen anymore," she said.Recently, Tseng also started manning a barbershop after its longtime owner, Miyoko Yang, died at the age of 80. "There were no other industries after mining, and that was why it fell into decline. Tourism gave Jiufen a second life."Tseng is hoping to present a more genuine Jiufen to visitors and to inspire businesses in the area to imagine a future where commercial opportunities can align with the area's heritage.It's a delicate balance."'Authenticity' to local residents is quite different from what tourists expect," Kevin Cheong, an adjunct lecturer at the Singapore Management University and a project consultant to the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, told me.To local residents of the place, authenticity is about retaining traditional ways of life, forms of worship, rites, rituals, and customs. In other words, it's so that they can go about their everyday lives, so the tourist doesn't exist, explained Cheong."However, to tourists, 'authenticity' is like a show performance where the place is on stage delivering a 'song-and-dance' and they pay for such an experience," he said.<div type="image" title="Jiufen resident Mickey Tseng standing in front of her home, which also houses a gold ore museum." height="2752" width="3369" msid="112554313" hostid="261" sizebytes="1548962"></div>Tseng admitted she has considered escaping the tourist trap that is home many times. But she is not looking to leave now that she's so entwined with the local community.Besides, she can't, the Jiufen local said half-seriously."I go to the temple every year over the new year to ask about my career and if it's right for me to continue staying here, if there's a future for me here," Tseng said, referring to a traditional practice of drawing a divination lot in answer to a question or request.The Earth God that oversees Jiufen has instructed Tseng to stay put — every single year: "He is telling me, 'don't rush, be patient.'"

<ul><li><keyword id="94272" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="keshub-mahindra" source="Orion">Keshub Mahindra</keyword>, the former chairman of <keyword id="1263014" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mahindra-and-mahindra-group" source="Orion">Mahindra and Mahindra group</keyword> was amongst the world’s oldest billionaires. </li><li>The Wharton University graduate had dreamt of becoming either a soldier or a farmer as a young boy. </li><li>Keshub Mahindra, who had seen licence raj and many other government controls in the 50s and 60s, believed that the pressures helped the Indian <keyword id="34478" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="auto-industry" source="Orion">auto industry</keyword> become cost competitive. </li></ul>The patriarch of the Mahindra group, Keshub Mahindra died on Wednesday, at the age of 99. “The industrial world has lost one of the tallest personalities today. Shri Keshub Mahindra had no match; the nicest person I had the privilege of knowing. I always looked forward to meetings with him and was inspired by how he connected business, economics and social matters. The former chairman of Mahindra and Mahindra group who had retired in 2012, was amongst the world’s oldest billionaires as per a recent Forbes report. He had just re-entered the coveted billionaire list in 2023. The businessman turned philanthropist, however, leaves a larger and wider legacy — he was instrumental in helping build India’s indigenous auto industry into a force to be reckoned with. ‘We don’t know a damn thing about the auto industry’ Keshub Mahindra’s story is intertwined with the history of the auto industry in India. The Mahindra and Mahindra group had started two generations before Anand Mahindra, the nephew of Keshub Mahindra and chairman emeritus of the group. The company was founded by two brothers Kailash Chandra Mahindra and Jagdish Chandra Mahindra in 1945, as a steel trader. Kailash Chandra Mahindra, the father of Keshub Mahindra had met the inventor of Jeep, Barney Roos in Washington. That’s how the company became an assembler of Willys jeep in India. A young Keshub, freshly graduated from Wharton University and grown up beyond his boyhood dreams of becoming either a soldier or a farmer, was called into a meeting with the defence minister. This was in 1947 when India had just won its freedom but was finding it tough to find spare parts for their tanks from Britain and other countries. At the meeting, the government said that it was planning to develop its own automotive industry. “We don’t know a damn thing about the auto industry,” Keshub Mahindra told the defence minister. That, however, did not stop neither Mahindra nor the only other auto companies existing back then — Premier Automobiles and Hindustan Motors – from building indigenous vehicles. M&amp;M started manufacturing jeeps in a full do-it-yourself (DIY) mode — when there were no suppliers or vendors. In fact they were rejected a dozen times – as they tried to manufacture cars in partnership with various multinationals. Moreover, companies could not increase prices without government nod, and added to that even their capacities were limited by rules. Once, the group was sent a letter by the government asking them why they should not prosecute them for exceeding capacity. “Prosecute us,” Keshub responded to the letter. Forced to do things he described as ‘crazy’, Keshub also admits that it has made Indian manufacturers control costs with frugal engineering and much more —- a move that has made them competitive. It was a good thing in the long run, he admitted in the Autocar interview. The courage of change His can-do attitude is also one of his guiding principles as <a href="https://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/dream-impossible-life-lessons-keshub-mahindra/">he shared in a Wharton page</a>, “Dream about achieving the impossible — because impossible things do happen. Only the brave have the courage to transform their lives,” he shared. He served as the chairman of M&amp;M for 48 years and ably steered the group through winds of change. The group now has interests across software, financial services and more. In FY22, the group’s revenue stood at ₹90,170 crore as against ₹74,277.78 crore in FY21. The auto business too grew exponentially both organically and inorganically under Keshub Mahindra’s leadership and expanded into light commercial vehicles, tractors and even farm equipment. It acquired companies like Punjab Tractors and Gujarat Tractors and also acquired companies in South Korea like SsangYong Motor, entered the two-wheeler market and also made early strides into the electric vehicle (EV) market by purchasing REVA. Years later, Anand Mahindra and his father Harish Mahindra also started another unique partnership when they lent ₹1 lakh to Uday Kotak for a business that went on to become the Kotak Mahindra Bank. The internet has turned on 3 TikTokers who aired the details of their romantic relationships online

<keyword id="6356830" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nestle-India">Nestle India</keyword> is planning to destroy nearly 550 tonnes of <keyword id="726194" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="maggi-noodles">Maggi Noodles</keyword> packets as they have passed their shelf life. 
 Nestle India moved the <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> for its nod to destroy about 550 tonnes of recalled stock of Maggi Noodles. The company said storage of these packets may lead to health hazard at the 39 locations where it is stored across the country. 
 A bench of Justices Dipak Misra and C Nagappan agreed to hear the plea after it was mentioned by senior advocate Harish Salve saying the food regulator Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (<keyword id="154680" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="FSSAI">FSSAI</keyword>) was not opposed to the company's petition. 
 
Salve said that FSSAI and the company have both agreed to destroy the stock which has crossed its shelf life. 
 
The company said that pursuant to withdrawal announcement and ban order on June 5, 2015, Nestle India Ltd had recalled stocks of Maggi Noodles and till September 1, 2015 destroyed around 38,000 tonnes of Maggi Noodles. 
 
The firm said it had 490 tonnes of stock pending destruction and 60 tonnes was received from the market. Hence, 550 tonnes of stock stored in 39 location across the country needed to be destroyed. 
 
"This entire stock of approximately 550 tonnes is well past its 'best before date' and its storage is giving rise to conditions that may lead to health hazard at the said locations," the plea said. 
 
It said over 38,000 tonnes of Maggi Noodles have been destroyed till September 1, 2015 at incinerators of the notified cement plants, keeping in view environmental requirements.

Well, when you are ‘Bhai’ with a large heart, your own largesse and being ‘at large’ is just something you often do. 
 But, look this way. Salman may be out on bail. And, chances are when you hire a <keyword id="6356325" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lawyer">lawyer</keyword> like Harish Salve, you may never ever (just as assertively as Arnab Goswamy says) and NEVER EVER have to even visit the prison again, let alone spending a few days there. You can entirely forget about spending the sentence duration. Five years? Are you kidding us? Well, well, who told those lowly labourers to sleep on the <keyword id="6429269" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pavement">pavement</keyword> for god’s sake? 
 What, wait! <keyword id="51958" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="YES">Yes</keyword>, why do majority of Mumbai’s labourers sleep on the pavement and get run over by cars? Do we know something about the man who died? Where was he working? Who had hired him? What was he working as? Did we hear anybody claim he was family or even a hired help? 
 
The problem with a large migrant city like Mumbai is, life is cheap and death? That’s even cheaper. A working man, so long as he is working, is worth some value in currency. When he becomes a liability, there is no mercy left. Didn’t the city authorities run a background check into those labourers? Why they were not provided some shelter by whoever was using their services? 
 Why have we become so complacent about people who slave themselves and waste away on footpaths and pavements? Remember <keyword id="20399" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arshad-Warsi">Arshad Warsi</keyword>’s ‘Jolly LLB’? There is a touching scene in the film when while arguing for a poor labourer who died, and others who were injured and silenced by the system, Warsi stands up for them. He is chided by his opponent who says the fault is of those who sleep on the footpaths. Because they are not meant for sleeping. 
 Four stars for the <keyword id="202636" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="script-writer">script writer</keyword> who says “Yes, the footpaths are not for sleeping. But they are not for driving either!” Applause! Applause! 
The film wastes a golden opportunity to throw light on another aspect. That of migration labourers. Where do they come from? Who are they? Why do they live a lowly life? 
 
Reality is, they come to toil in our houses. Build our gated communities, with swimming pool, club house and shopping mall. They never get to even understand what goes on inside these swanky places. They are the forbidden clan. They are apologies to the society. They are embarrassments which have to be swept under the carpet. 
 
Because, unless they are dead, their existence has no value. And once they are dead, they just remain statistics. Nothing more, nothing less. Authorities will not even feel guilty about having murdered them. 
 In more ways than one, Salman is not the only ‘Macbeth’ in Bollywood with bloody hands. There are more like him. Whether it is Bacchan’s relative <keyword id="45587" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanjeev-Nanda">Sanjeev Nanda</keyword>, industrialist Mahendra Khatau’s son <keyword id="34" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manish">Manish</keyword>, <keyword id="38810" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="hairdresser">hairdresser</keyword> Nooriya Haveliwalla, or <keyword id="271" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="actor">actor</keyword> <keyword id="6357789" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajkumar">Rajkumar</keyword>’s son <keyword id="129043" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Puru">Puru</keyword> – they are lucky because they could buy lawyers. And the poor dead souls who died under these people’s rich didn’t have the luck smiling by them.

Being Salman: Bollywood’s own ‘Macbeth’ rolling out

That isn't likely to be the case, according to Tobias Levkovich, Citigroup's chief US equity strategist. In fact, strong earnings growth is one of two things keeping investors complacent, in his view. Levkovich recently spoke to Business Insider about why this is the case, what sectors could contribute to the market's growth this year, and the folly behind looking for a straightforward market catalyst. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.Akin Oyedele: The big story in markets lately is the <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/10-year-yield-hits-3-for-first-time-since-2014-2018-4-1022124700">10-year yield hitting 3%</a>, so I wanted to get your take on that and what it means for stocks.Tobias Levkovich: Let me set the stage a little bit.We started the year with the idea that it will be one of consolidation and rotation.By consolidation, we meant that you would get very strong earnings growth, but you wouldn't see the full benefit of that in the price of stocks. In other words, you'd see multiple compression. So, if we believe earnings will be up 14%-15%, you might only get 5% in equity-market appreciation, and lose, call it 10 points on the multiple. I don't mean the P/E goes from 20 to 10 points, I mean you'd lose some of that appreciation. The move in the market in 2016 and half the move in 2017 was multiple-related, kind of anticipating a more pro-business, pro-growth agenda. And as you got it, you were earning your way into it - you already paid for it, you're not gonna get paid a second time. We also expected some inflation and some higher bond yields.So again, this idea of consolidation was more about looking at history, trying to understand how markets trade, and the sense that there's probably more wage inflation than people perceive.Number two, we talked about rotation. In an environment where bond yields are climbing, you typically see value beat growth. That doesn't mean week-to-week or in the earnings numbers, and I kind of almost don't respond to those day-to-day moves. I find them noise, not signal. We like financials, we like energy, we like more cyclical components of the economy. We've been underweight staples. Year-to-date as of last night [April 25], energy's outperformed tech. That's not on most people's minds.We downgraded diversified financials about a week and a half ago from an overweight. We're still overweight banks and insurance. Some of the banks came through with some numbers that the Street clearly didn't love.So let's talk just a moment about earnings in general.Earnings have been far better than people thought, yet stock prices haven't necessarily reacted to them. We recently wrote a piece saying that earnings would not heal the troubles in the market. People were hoping that it would occur that way, and we said we didn't expect it to.Most people want to get some sense of outlook into the latter part of this year and into whether 2019 is okay; there has been a lot of concern about end-of-cycle issues. So what I'd love to get from company A, B, or C is some feeling that I'm okay for earnings into the latter part of this year and maybe even into 2019.It's April. Managements don't know that in April. You're asking them to make a call for what December or next April looks like. They just don't have that visibility. So what you're kind of really asking from the companies is not "did you have a good first quarter," but "how do the third and fourth quarter look?" Companies have visibility a quarter out, maybe if you're lucky, two quarters out, but you certainly don't have nine or 12 months out. And very few companies are going to stick their necks out and say "everything's fine" and "we think we can up the numbers for the year" when there's potential for them to disappoint. If that was the visibility that people wanted, they weren't going to get it in April.Two things are keeping people complacent.One is, earnings are really good. Markets don't generally blow up if earnings are good.Two, is there a Fed put out there at what strike price? Thus far, it's not down five, ten percent because the Fed hasn't indicated that, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-a-stock-market-correction-2018-2">we've already had that kind of correction</a>. But is it 15%? Is it 20%? And, there's the sense that there's a potential feedback loop in that if markets go down enough, management teams and companies would be worried that there's some kind of discomforting, sinister signal from the market and as a result, the Fed will have to stop being aggressive.I think those are the two things kind of keeping people complacent. There isn't really fear out there. You almost need fear, and you need some time, to prove that the concerns around end of cycle are overdone.Oyedele: Your year-end S&amp;P 500 target is 2800. How do we get there from here?Levkovich: If earnings are up 14% or 15% and we lost a little multiple, getting up 5% is not asking for the moon.We have eight to 10 different ways we target our S&amp;P approach. We look to a variety of factors and see where most of them congregate. We don't use the signal factor.I was talking to someone earlier today and said I'm getting clients asking to report on my recent trip to Asia, and one of the questions is, "what's the catalyst to make the market go up?" - that kind of magic-bullet question.And this guy was telling me "I hate that question." And I said "that's not the question I hate, it's a reasonable question."Here's the question I hate: what multiple should the market trade at? My answer to that typically is, who died and made me king that you have to follow what I say? I can have a view on what the market should trade at, but that doesn't mean investors will trade it that way. So what I need to do is look at how markets trade price-to-book against inflation, how markets trade on historical P/Es, what have been the market outcomes? I don't for a moment assume - and my ego just isn't big enough to assume - that everyone's going to listen to me because I think the multiple should be X. Honestly, who the hell cares what my viewpoint is on that? I'm honest about this. I don't have enough money to force the outcome. Mr. Bezos doesn't have enough money to force the outcome. It's a $26 trillion market. Why would you think that your opinion matters? You get my point. To me, these are foolish questions because they don't really matter.Oyedele: So what are the right questions to be asking?Levkovich: I think you have to look at a variety of things, and that's the problem: everybody likes a simple answer.Here's the example I often give to people. If you eat a lot of food, you're going to gain weight. That sounds like a very reasonable cause and effect.Now let me give you three things that say that's not true.If you ate a lot of vegetables and fruit, you probably aren't going to gain weight.Number 2, if you work out like crazy, you're probably not going to gain weight.And number 3 - people who I've learned to really hate - people who have very fortunate, fast metabolism aren't going to gain weight.So the starting statement was kind of true, except that I gave you three examples that shoot it down in a second.So this idea of a nice simple 'if A occurs B follows' is not the market. The market has multiple influences and you have to think about, if there are 10 different things that affect it, where's the body of evidence leaning, which is, by the way, how our Panic/Euphoria model works. There are nine factors in the model. They sometimes conflict and that's okay because that's the real world.We're all pretty good at pre-selecting information that backs up our fears. It's really bad when you're telling clients "I have a piece of evidence that supports me and I'll ignore the other ones that don't." That's not helping people.Oyedele: What's an example of a viewpoint out there that you think is accurate, but perhaps unpalatable for investors to hear right now? Another way of phrasing that is, is there anything on your radar that you think the market's under-appreciating?Levkovich: I think people have been under-appreciating what's been going on in the labor force. We've been hearing from companies for a while about how tight it is to get good workers.It started off, let's say, in the homebuilders last year. Another example is the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/truck-driver-shortage-persists-amid-salary-rise-2018-2">trucking industry</a>. But we're hearing it from industrial companies, we're hearing it from energy companies, it's becoming much more widespread. And that's why the comfort level that people have in wage growth of February and March in the 2.6%-2.7% range is probably very inaccurate.When you look at the gap between U6 and U3 unemployment rates, it tends to be a really good measure for what happens to wage inflation. And it is likely that gap is going to shrink based on some outlooks we've done in the course of the next six to nine months. That's going to put even more upward pressure [on wage inflation.]Companies are going to try and raise prices. Not every company will be able to, but most will. And they're going to pass them on to you and me as consumers, and that will push some of the inflation data higher with some bond-yield reaction to it. Rising inflation expectations over the last 20 years meant buy cyclicals, not defensives. So if the market is going to do what it's done for the past 20 years, then it's probably going to do it again, unless you go think this time is different. It's a lot sexier to say "this time it's different." But every time you hear those great paradigms of change, they almost rarely play out. We all like new and exciting things, but are they really sustainable? And I won't even discuss <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/currencies/btc-usd">bitcoin</a>. Somebody brought this up to me earlier today, which was, it's interesting that the stuff you would have thought you were essentially safe in, like staples, you've just been crushed.
