"'As people adjust to the enew normal', in-home consumption is witnessing a significant uptake. We are witnessing a jump in both penetration and frequency of our food and beverage categories. There is a growing demand for our larger packs as in-home occasions of togetherness have increased manifold. While the consumers are looking at in-home experiences and seeking convenience, they are also looking at value," they said. "While there have been some short-term head winds due to Covid, we at PepsiCo are extremely optimistic about the future and are committed to provide consumers the right portfolio of products across food and beverages," they said. "Even in the COVID environment, our categories are seeing robust demand and growth across most channels," they added. Q: How is PepsiCo India responding with its business models to the Covid-19 situation? A: The COVID-19 has led to a complete paradigm shift as everything around us has changed- consumer behavior, retail landscape, competitive environment. Very early on, we realized there was no playbook to tackle the COVID challenge and the situation would continue to change. So, we had to arm ourselves with taking quick decisions while not having all the relevant information. To help us navigate the crisis, we established 6 guiding principles: Being People Centric, Being Consumer Centric, Being Customer Centric, Being Community Stewards, Being Agile and Being Prudent. These were the lens through which we saw every decision and we empowered our teams for agile decision making. At a time when stepping out for even essentials was fraught with risks, making our product conveniently available for our retailers and consumers was a key focus area. Hyper-local delivery emerged as a solution and we invested in emergent channels like Ecommerce for both B2C and B2B. We partnered with Amazon, Big Basket, Grofers, Swiggy and Dunzo to ensure uninterrupted availability of our food and beverage products to consumers across locations with safe delivery-on demand for all our consumers. For B2B, we further strengthened our existing Distributor model with the EB2B model, where we partnered with Udaan and Big Basket to help small and medium businesses. This partnership ensured our product portfolio was easily made available to retailers, so that they can cater to demand in the market. Q: How does PepsiCo view the big jump in consumption of snacks and beverages at home? A: PepsiCo India has always kept a pulse on consumer trends and continued to develop its portfolio in line with what consumers want. As people adjust to the enew normal', in-home consumption is witnessing a significant uptake. We are witnessing a jump in both penetration and frequency of our food and beverage categories. There is a growing demand for our larger packs as in-home occasions of togetherness have increased manifold. While the consumers are looking at in home experiences and seeking convenience, they are also looking at value. In order to serve the consumer better and rapidly adapt to their changing requirements we have introduced a 1.25-liter PET pack in our beverage portfolio at a very affordable price of Rs 50 which will enable the stay-at- home times even more special for our consumers. We have also introduced various combo packs for our food portfolio creating and further driving in-home consumption.Q: What are the investment plans for PepsiCo in India? A: Within 30 years of our establishment in India, PepsiCo India has grown exponentially to emerge as the largest Food and Beverage company in the country. On account of such a tremendous growth, PepsiCo India has committed to invest over $2.1 billion in the country over a five-year period ending in 2022. This commitment is a part of our previously disclosed commitment to invest $5.5 billion in India and includes our plan to double our manufacturing capabilities locally in the next five years, to cater to the ever-increasing demand of our products among the consumers. In recent years, we have announced an investment of Rs 514 Crores in a new foods facility in Uttar Pradesh which will provide 1,500 direct/indirect jobs. We have also invested in increasing capacity at our existing foods plants in West Bengal and Maharashtra and have additionally proposed to set up a greenfield project in Assam. Q: What is the production capacity for the PepsiCo products, and has it reached pre-Covid levels? A: We have resumed operations/ manufacturing across foods and beverages in the best manner possible, ensuring that all guidelines regarding safety of our employees are strictly adhered to. In the current environment and limited workforce across shifts, we are trying to ensure that we can meet the demand and operate at an optimal level to cater to our consumers with their favorite snacks and beverages. Nonetheless, we remain committed towards our employees and our consumers and see an uptake in both supply and demand in both categories. Q: What has been the response to the Covid situation? A: As brands look at engaging with consumers, the first and foremost part is that the current situation requires brands to provide consumers with a seamless and safe buying experience. That apart, this is also a unique opportunity to build an even more authentic relationship with the consumers by listening to them and providing the functional and emotional comfort. While there have been new ways of ensuring consumers had 24X7 accessibility of our products in a safe and hygienic manner, Brands across the PepsiCo India portfolio have also initiated interesting campaigns rooted into insights that we mined through the real time social listening we do at PepsiCo For consumers, safety comes first, and they are now refraining from going to crowded places and prefer low exposure. Hence, we partnered with SWIGGY and Dunzo to provide our products across food and beverages at their doorsteps, 24X7. We also saw that with low touch format being the new trend, there was a need to work with our partners to find low or no touch solutions for dispensing water. After extensive research and trials, we were able to finalize the Aquafina Low touch dispenser model as a product that we could roll out now given it meets key criteria including safety of consumer,practicality as well as economies of scale. We also evolved in the way we communicated to our consumers with messaging that were more relevant in current times. In an endeavor to make these contactless Indian greetings a part of pop culture, Pepsi introduced a digital forward campaign that aimed at inspiring the world that greeting each other with salaam/namaste is a perfect way to ensure social distancing and yet maintain connections responsibly. The campaign broke all past records in India and made a meaningful impact to the consumers' lives. The brand partnered with Smile Foundation to provide hygiene kits to over 40,000 families of such unsung heroes. These hygiene kits contain masks and sanitizers, to support these champions as they continue to work hard even in these unprecedented times. A: In its role as a responsible social citizen, PepsiCo India has taken several initiatives to contribute to the nation's ongoing efforts to combat the COVID-19 outbreak. As part of its #GiveMealsGiveHope global programme, PepsiCo India provided over 10 million meals to the underprivileged and marginalized families impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak across India. The meals were distributed in partnership with Akshaya Patra Foundation, Smile Foundation &amp; CII Foundation, across the country. The company also extended support to the healthcare and diagnostic facilities by providing over 35,000 COVID-19 testing kits to government labs, supplementing their efforts to combat the pandemic. Q: What are the changing consumer patterns expected due to Covid? A: The COVID-19 challenge is making both consumers and brands face a new reality. Consumer behavior and pattern is emerging and evolving at a fast pace. Some of the key insights that are emerging are as follows: #Mobile is the new TV: Consumers, customers, employees and our ecosystem partners have leap frogged towards leveraging digital solutions and the mobile is at the epicenter of all this. Be it work from home, communication to consumers, taking orders from customers or Ecom, consumers are practically dependent on their mobiles. They are consuming content online, buying online and even engaging with extended family and finds online. Therefore, it's important to jump shift this capability and work with the ecosystem partners to strengthen this muscle. #Value in Table Stakes: While value has always been important for consumers, going forward it would become even more crucial. A: The pandemic has given rise to a enew-normal' world and we at PepsiCo India have maintained a close look out on the evolving consumer behavior pattern to be better prepared for the future. We take cognizance of the fact that we need to cater to different audiences, be it consumers, partners, distributors through different channels. For the consumers, demand for online deliveries has soared since the start of the stay-at-home order. Thereby, it was almost imperative for businesses to enhance their Direct to Customer (D2C) channels like Swiggy, Dunzo to ensure we have exclusive e-stores and a mechanism to cater to our consumers at their doorstep 24/7. By tapping the 'Daily Grocery' on Dunzo's app, customers can visit the LAY'S E-store and get these products delivered within an hour of ordering. The initiative has currently been launched as a pilot in <keyword id="6354321" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> and will eventually expand to 4 more cities across Mumbai, Gurugram, Delhi, and Jaipur. For the beverage category, we have tied up with Swiggy stores where we ensure availability of our products to the consumer on demand and delivery within 2 hours. On the other hand, Aquafina has tied up with a micro delivery platform OwO is for expanding reach into "At -home" consumption of packaged water. From a consumer perspective, our research has shown that consumers prefer dealing with apps such as OwO as they find it convenient. For the retailers and wholesalers, an interesting emerging channel is the EB2B model, under which PepsiCo India has entered into deep partnership with Udaan and Big Basket to help small and medium businesses. They should always have access to our product portfolio to ensure that they always meet demand. On the other hand, we remain committed to the distributors and ensure that we grow them and grow with them. Q: How does PepsiCo view the recent agriculture reforms including the flexibility to farmers to sell their products? A: Let's talk briefly about our collaborative programme and how that is focused on working closely with the farmers and based on years of trust and relationship. At PepsiCo India, we are guided by eWinning with Purpose' - our fundamental belief that the success of the company is inextricably linked to the sustainability of the world around. Agriculture is at the heart of PepsiCo India, and the companies relationship with farmers in India goes back 30 years. PepsiCo was the first company to introduce own researched processed grade varieties in India in late 90's. At present, PepsiCo is largest processed grade potato buyer in India. To fulfill its chip grade potato demand locally, PepsiCo developed largest collaborative farming for potato in India spread across 13 states working involving over 24,000 farmers. The potatoes are then processed in 3 manufacturing plants which employ close to 2,000 direct and indirect employees. The retention rate of farmers being part of the collaborative farming program is as high as 98 per cent. All the potato used in Lay's and Uncle Chipps is sourced from farmers in India e in fact, PepsiCo is the largest buyer of chip grade potato in the country today. Q: What are your views on the outlook for consumer sentiment? Is it an essential versus discretionary choice? A: India consumption story has just started and according to industry reports, India will be the 3rd largest consumption market by 2025. This is "<keyword id="9221472" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="food-wars">Food Wars</keyword>." Now, you can't actually get a small drink at a UK KFC. It starts at regular. This is what a regular drink looks like.Joe Avella: This is what a US regular looks like.Harry: And this is what a large drink looks like.Joe: And this is what a US large looks like.Harry: This is a regular fries, and this is a large fries.Joe: Here's the US regular. All right. And you want to go the next size up, this is the US large. Googe! [laughing] Look at how big that is! It's, like, five of those ones that he had. Googe!Harry: Let's find out how much a large fries weighs in the UK.Joe: Let's weigh our large fry. Oh, man. Oh! [laughs] They're packed in there, dude! Look at that! Is that everything?Harry: This is what a regular popcorn chicken looks like.Joe: We have a large popcorn chicken.Harry: And this is what a large popcorn chicken looks like.Joe: And if you want to go even larger than the large, you get yourself a popcorn chicken box. Something for you and your buddies, I'm sure. You're not eating this by yourself. [nuggets plopping] Did I lose any? No, no way! Am I doing this without? Oh, don't jinx it. Yeah, aw, oh! You, you, and you. That all of them?Producer: That's all.Joe: Crumb.Harry: In the UK, you can get buckets in three sizes. You can get a six piece, you can get a 10 piece, or you can get a 14 piece. [laughs] Is it...? Ugh.Joe: Eight piece. Whoa! Ugh. 12 piece. Whoa, whoa, whoa. This is, I'm not gonna even, I can't even dump it. Yo! Look how much chicken this is! Oh, my God, what a mess.Producer: I'm gonna get the close-up cam now.Harry: Unfortunately, KFC in the UK doesn't disclose its ingredients, but what we do know is calories. For example, in the UK, a drum is 170 calories.Joe: And in the US, one of these guys for the original recipe is 130 calories. But if you get extra crispy, like this guy right here, it's actually 170.Harry: USA is actually still winning on calories. That's largely thanks to the sides and the drinks. If you were to walk into a UK KFC and order a three-piece meal and they gave you a drum, a thigh, and a wing with a large fries and a large Pepsi, that would come to 1,155 calories.Joe: Our large fry is 930 calories, and our large drink is 380. And if you were to order a three piece with a large fry and a large drink in the US, it would be roughly this many calories. The KFC in the US has released its ingredients list. I would like to go over the ingredients of the french fries at the KFC in the US. All right, here we go. Sea salt, monosodium glutamate, maltodextrin, salt, dextrose, vegetable powders, tricalcium phosphate, hydrolyzed soy proteins, spices, soybean oil, natural flavors, potassium chloride, paprika extract , turmeric extract , potatoes , vegetable oil. It has soybean oil, canola, cottonseed, and/or sunflower. Beached - "beached." Bleached wheat flour, and it contains 2% or less of rice flour, durum wheat, whoa, semolia? Sem-OH-lin-ah, sem-ol? Sem-OH-lin-ah. Durum wheat sem-OH-lia. Sem-oh-LIN-ah. I don't know what that word is. It looks like it's easy, but it's hard to say. Sem-OH-lin-ah? Semolina? Durum wheat semolina, there you go. Dextrin, salt, degermed yellow corn meal. Oh, thank God it's been degermed. Cornstarch, leavings (sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium bicarbonate), dextrose again, xantham gum, there he is! Annatto extract color, disodium dihydrox - disodium dihydrogen pyrophosphate, in parentheses, "to maintain color." OK. We add so many chemicals to our fries, we add more chemicals to make it look like it doesn't have any chemicals. Thank you, disodium dehydra, dehydra, what the f---? Yeah, whatever.Harry: Here are some things you can only find on the menu at a UK KFC. So, instead of a chicken sandwich, what we call ours is the chicken filet burger. I think it's pretty much the same thing. It's, like, breaded and fried chicken between two buns, with some lettuce and some mayonnaise. We also have something called the Zinger Burger, which is pretty much the same thing, but the spice level is amped up a little bit. You can also turn these burgers into a tower burger. What that does is adds cheese and a hash brown to the burger, which, in my opinion, very worthwhile addition.Joe: We have some stuff in our KFC they can't get in the UK. And, surprisingly, some things I thought were, like, kind of, like, paramount to the KFC menu. Mashed potatoes and gravy. This to me seems like something that has just always been part of KFC along with the chicken. Look at those mashed potatoes, man. It's a tub of mashed potatoes. OK, let's make a mess. Oh, yeah! Oh, my goodness, put that on the cover of Gravy Aficionado Magazine! Another thing I didn't realize you guys don't have, biscuits, or, as you call them, scones. This is called the Famous Bowl. It is mashed potatoes and gravy and corn, topped with popcorn chicken, topped with cheese, all in one bowl. Yeah, this thing, I don't think I've ever had one of these, 'cause it looks ridiculous.Harry: Now, Joe, I'm glad you also think that the Famous Bowl doesn't look that great, because, to me, that looks like a nightmare. Now, we have a slightly different approach to sides in the UK compared to the US. For example, our corn comes on the cob. Baked beans, these are slightly different to the regular beans that you might put on toast in the UK. They have kind of a barbecue sauce flavor to them. There's a few other language differences, like instead of chicken tenders, we call ours chicken mini filets.Joe: Mini filets, chicken tenders, they look exactly the same. We got those. Yes, they have corn, but we have ours off the cob, which I think is not as good as on the cob. This pile right here, and, I know, they do have wings at KFC in the UK, yes, I know. But only in the US can you order them by 48. [laughing] 48 wings! I'm dying right now, man.Producer: It sure smells good.Joe: They smell so good. The potpie, when I saw a potpie on the menu, I was like, "Yeah, a little side potpie." No, dude. This thing weighs, like, a puppy. This thing has kind of got some weight to it.Harry: I gotta say, the potpie actually looks quite good. We love meat pies here in the UK. You'll often see people tucking into, like, a steak and kidney pie or the chicken pie. But, yeah, they should probably put that on the menu over here. I think they'd cash in on the British market.Joe: Let's talk sauces. It's sauce talk. Sauce talk. I think that these sauces are also specific only to the US and not the UK. The KFC Finger Lookin' Good Sauce, see that? We also have the summertime barbecue sauce. Honey mustard. And, of course, buttermilk ranch.Harry: There are a few sauces which are exclusive to the UK. For example, we have this Spicy Supercharger dip, which is kind of like a spicy mayo-type thing. We have some sweet chili sauce, garlic mayonnaise, another really good option. Garlic mayo on chips is just fantastic.Joe: Why don't we have those sauces here? Oh, man, I want those.Harry: Now, usually, we'd have even more exclusive menu items to show you, but unfortunately, the UK KFCs are currently operating with a reduced menu. Here's what you could normally find on the menu at a UK KFC. [typing] A vegan burger, the Big Daddy burger, a range of chicken wraps, some rice boxes, onion rings, curry sauce, Krushems, and a full range of hot drinks, including English breakfast tea.Joe: In the UK, you can get teas, including English breakfast tea. Now, technically you can't get tea at the KFCs in the US, but you can get something called Mountain Dew Sweet Lightning, which I think is probably pretty close.Harry: Yeah, that's pretty much exactly the same as a breakfast tea.Joe: Dude.

Well, for us, it's the Classic Cravings Meal for six.Joe: In the US, biggest thing on the menu, remember this guy? Taco party pack.Harry: The Classic Cravings Meal for six comes with two quesadillas, two beef Crunchwrap Supremes, two Volcano burritos, two portions of nachos BellGrande, and then six beef tacos and three portions of cinnamon twists for dessert.Joe: As you can see, it's just 12 tacos. I know that seems very simple, but sometimes, simplicity is the best. 12 tacos, you can get them either hard shell or soft shell, regular or supreme, at least half of them I know you can get as Doritos Tacos Locos. If you don't know what that is, you'll find out a little bit later here in the US.Harry: Let's take a look at some of the nutritional info for Taco Bell, starting with the basics. In the UK, a plain crunchy beef taco is 159 calories and has 308 milligrams of sodium.Joe: In the US, our crunchy beef taco is 170 calories.Harry: A chicken quesadilla in the UK is a hefty 529 calories.Joe: Our quesadilla actually has less calories. "Only" 510. But it still has more sodium. It actually has almost more than half of your daily allowance.Harry: Thud. When in the UK, a Crunchwrap has 578 calories, but shockingly, it has 60% of your daily saturated fat allowance.Joe: In the US, our hexagram is 530 calories and has about 6 grams of fat less than the one in the UK. But, surprising no one, ours has more sodium. As is always the case in the US, you have to look at the beverages. This right here is a large Mountain Dew Baja Blast. This is 30 ounces of a liquid that is the most unnatural green I've ever seen. It glows in the dark. It's so bright, when I close my eyes I can still see it, like when you look at the sun. This beverage has over 420 calories. That is ridiculous. I gotta take a sip. Oh, my God. This has roughly 110 grams of sugar. It's an absurd amount of sugar. Oh, God. It's like, it's horrible, yet I'm addicted to it. So, I wanted to see exactly what 110 grams of sugar looks like. And to do so... get out of my face. We got this and this. Come on, are you serious? I'm not even halfway there. Yeah, OK, there we go. This is in that. America, this is too much sugar. I get it. This thing, it's just.... Ah. Man! I hate that so much.Harry: Let's start with the ingredients for the basics. In the UK, a flour tortilla contains the following. Fortified wheat flour, made with wheat flour, calcium carbonate, iron, niacin, and thiamin; [fast-forwarding] water; vegetable oils, which are palm oil and rapeseed oil; raising agents E500, E450, and E296; sugar; emulsifier E471; salt; [normal speed] and a flour treatment agent, E920.Joe: [blubbering] Here we go. In the US, our flour tortillas have enriched wheat flour; water; vegetable shortening, which is soybean, hydrogenated soybean, and/or cottonseed oil; [fast-forwarding] sugar; salt; leavening -- baking soda, sodium acid pyrophosphate; molasses; dough conditioner, which is fumaric acid, distilled monoglycerides? Yeah. Enzymes, vital wheat gluten, cellulose gum, wheat starch, calcium carbonate; calcium; [normal speed] pra-po-nee-ate. Pra-po-nee-ate. Pro-po-nate. Proponate. Propionate. That's a tough one. Sorbic acid and/or potassium sorbate.Harry: These lists might look quite different, but actually a lot of it's just under terminology. For example, the UK menu tends to use E numbers, whereas the US menu tends to refer to things by their full chemical names.Joe: Yeah, it's a good distinction to make, Harry, but is it better? I don't know. What sounds worse, E450 or pyrophosphate? Pyrophosphate is a scary-sounding chemical. E450 sounds like a "Star Wars" droid. I don't think it really makes much of a difference, personally.Harry: What about some meat options? Well, in the UK, 72% of the beef is beef, and the rest is made up of beef fat, maltodextrin, tomato powder, paprika, cumin, black pepper, salt, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, yeast extract, oregano, cocoa powder, flavor enhancer E635, cellulose, salt, stabilizers E451 and E452.Joe: And in the United States, our beef contains beef. Imagine that. Water, seasoning, which is cellulose, chili pepper, maltodextrin, salt, oats, soy lecithin, spices, tomato powder, sugar, onion powder, citric acid, natural flavors, new set of brackets, , close them brackets, torula yeast, cocoa, disodium inosinate, and [sighs] what is this word? Guan-ya-late? Guan-ye-late. Guan-ye-late. Whatever. It looks like it's pretty much the same thing you guys got there in the UK. One thing we need to note about the US Taco Bell menu is that items like the Baja Blast and the Doritos Tacos Locos, I think the shells have an ingredient called Yellow No. 5. Yellow No. 5 is not in the UK. Of course it's in the US.Harry: In the UK, you usually find Yellow 5 referred to as tartrazine. It's on a list of six chemicals which, when added to <keyword id="6181" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Food">food</keyword>, must contain the following warning: "May have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children."Joe: And according to the FDA, in some cases, it causes itching and hives in people who eat it. Disgusting. [laughs] Itching and hives, yep, that's fine. Hey, I ate it growing up, and I'm perfectly fine. I should note that I have a full head of gray hair, and I just turned 23.Harry: Here is everything you can only find on the menu at a UK Taco Bell.Joe: This is everything you could only get at a US Taco Bell.Harry: So, we only have the one exclusive taco. And it's this one, which is the crispy chicken soft taco. What it is, is pretty much just a standard taco with the lettuce, the cheese, the sour cream, but then we've kind of got one of these breaded crispy chicken fillets in the middle as well.Joe: First thing, which is right in front of me, I've talked about this twice already. It is the party pack. We've already met the Baja Blast. Oh, man, I hate it so much. One thing that I love at Taco Bell, the Doritos Locos tacos. What is it? It is a taco that the shell is a Dorito. See that? Made of the same stuff.Harry: Now, we actually have a bunch of exclusive burrito options in the UK. We'll start with this one, which is the Volcano burrito. Now, apparently this used to be on the menu in the US, but it's no longer there. What it is, is basically just, like, a beef and rice burrito. There's some sour cream cheese in there as well and some crunchy tortilla chips. And I think it gets the name Volcano because it's got the lava sauce in there, so it's quite spicy.Joe: Yes, Harry, the Volcano burrito was available in the US for a limited time. It was a promotional menu item for the 1995 box-office bomb "Congo," based on the Michael Crichton book. RIP to my boy Michael Crichton.Harry: Here, we have a beefy nacho griller, which is a fantastic name. What this is, is just beef and crushed nacho chips with some cheese sauce in a burrito. Here, we've got the double cheesy black bean burrito, which, as the name suggests, has two types of cheese. It's got the nacho cheese and also the shredded cheese in there, as well as some rice and black beans. Here, we have the seven-layer burrito. We have another exclusive crispy chicken option, which is a crispy chicken burrito. And then, finally, we have the spicy chicken griller. Not bad. It does just kind of taste like something that I could make at home.Joe: There's a bunch of burritos. I'm gonna try and figure out what these burritos are without, like, completely ripping them apart. This right here. Oh, beef Quesarito. Somehow they combined a burrito and a quesadilla, and it's this light-brown brick. If you don't want beef, you wanna go vegetarian, they also have a black bean Quesarito. This looks like five-layer burrito. I didn't know this until I had to do this video, but there's no seven-layer burrito in America anymore. They took out two layers, and I get the five-layer one. [grunts] What is this? Well, all these just look the same. Grilled cheese burrito. That sounds awesome. Who doesn't like grilled cheese? And these two that are left here, one of them is a cheesy bean and rice burrito, and the other one is a burrito supreme. That's one of these two. I don't know which is which. We also have steak quesadillas, which, unfortunately the Taco Bell that I went to did not have them. This big thing right here, I love this. Look at this. This is the nacho party pack. It's exactly what it sounds like. Get a good look, UK. This is what nachos are supposed to look like.Harry: What we lack in nachos, we more than make up for in fries. We love fries in the UK. Obviously, we call them chips. But it's very unusual to walk into a fast-food restaurant and not be able to find them, so I think Taco Bell have kind of tried to cash in on that in the UK. Basically your standard fries, but then they have a kind of fajita seasoning on them as well. You can get them in three sizes. Regular fries, then you have the fries supreme, and then finally you have the fries BellGrande, which is the biggest size. We ordered one deconstructed and one constructed just to see the difference.Joe: Mexican pizza. They were saying for a while that these were gonna be taken off the menu. We still got them in a couple locations, apparently. I got my hands on one. Look at this guy. Oh, this right here, the power bowl, the protein bowl. This is actually a really good idea for them. It's just all protein, no carbs.Harry: Now, the only side that seems to be exclusive to the UK is actually just a little bowl of rice. For some reason, I couldn't find this on the US menu. If I was wrong, let me know.Joe: What everyone in the UK has been waiting for! [drumroll] Taco Bell breakfast, yes! I think, of all the fast-food breakfasts-es, Taco Bell's is the best. These are the items that you can get here in America, and they are all great. The cheesy toasted breakfast burrito. The hash brown toasted burrito. The grande toasted breakfast burrito. Another one I wanna point out here is the breakfast Crunchwrap Supreme. Of course, we all know this shape. Hexagon? They're like the regular burritos you would get at Taco Bell, but they have eggs in them. Sometimes they have bacon, a pico de gallo. They're all very good. Very, very good.Harry: I'm really sad that we don't have any breakfast items in the UK, but what we do have is churros for dessert. These can be served with a little pot of dulce de leche to dip in. And, honestly, I'm shocked that you guys don't have these. [crunching]Joe: For the US Taco Bell desserts, the one thing we got here you can't get in the UK are these Cinnabon Delights. They're like little cinnamon balls. You can get them in either an order of two or 12 or any number in between. Oh, my God. There's cream inside of these. I was not expecting that.Exclusive drinks in the US. This one is a dragon fruit freeze. That was like a Slurpee. You can also get Powerade. They got fruit punch Powerade on tap. After just two weeks with&#xa0; the Knicks, he headed down to Charlotte, North Carolina, to participate in the AT&amp;T Slam Dunk Contest at <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/2019-nba-all-star-game">All-Star Weekend</a>.While promoting Mountain Dew from Charlotte, Smith spoke to Business Insider about his dunk contest experience - which included jumping over J. Cole - the trade to the Knicks, eating octopus with Phil Jackson, Luka Doncic, and more.Scott Davis: You've had a few hours now to reflect on the dunk contest. I'm curious what your feelings on it were. How did it go?Dennis Smith Jr.: I had fun. I had fun. I think that's the biggest thing. I enjoyed it. Put on a show for the fans. Just gave them a little contest to remember.Davis: How long did it take you to convince J. Cole to let you dunk over him? Was he scared?Smith: Nah, he wasn't scared about that part. He was more so worried about throwing a lob. So that was the issue with him last year - he didn't wanna throw the lob. But jumping over him, he had no worries about that.Davis: Who would be your next choice for a famous person to jump over?Smith: Spike Lee.Davis: You might have a chance - he's at Madison Square Garden pretty often.Smith: I met him last night for the first time. I chopped it up with him for a little minute. I salute him. He's a legend and things of that nature.&#xa0;Davis: Do you have a strict diet to stay light and be able to jump like you do? That's what I grew up on, man. You know, I'm country. So, I really just eat. I eat whatever is good to me right now. I'm sure that'll change as I get older, but I just work whatever I eat off.Davis: I asked Sacramento Kings guard De'Aaron Fox this and he said he actually just has to eat a lot to keep weight on. Are you like that?Smith: Nah, I put on weight easily. I put on weight easily. I think I get that from my mama.Davis: There was a story from before the draft when you were interviewing with the Knicks, and-Smith: And I ate some octopus with Phil Jackson [laughs].<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Davis: Yes. Have you had it since?Smith: Yeah, I actually like octopus, man. You know, when it was forced upon me, it was awkward. I didn't think my taste buds were working no more at the time. But yeah, I like octopus now.&#xa0;Davis: Now that you're back in New York have you tried any other foods? Anything adventurous or crazy?Smith: I haven't. I haven't really tried anything in New York, for real. I've been to the gym and the hotel. That's it.Davis: You're two or three weeks removed from the trade now. What are your thoughts on adjusting to New York and the move? It must be like a whirlwind - you're all over the place, from Dallas to New York to here.Smith: Yeah, I mean, the weather is almost opposite. You go from Texas to New York. I'm adjusting pretty fine, though. The main thing is basketball, and I'm in a really good space with that. So, it's been all good.Davis: Has there been anyone with the team or in your life that have helped with the adjustment, moving to a new team, cross-country, all of that?Smith: Yeah, I mean, it's little things like getting my car shipped. My cousin's helping me get my car shipped. My dad is gonna bring it up to New York. He wanted to drive around Fayetteville [North Carolina] for a little minute. I got a lot of clothes that I'm gonna move. I've been doing things like that, getting from Dallas to Fayetteville. So, it's been, like everything else for me, it's been a family process.Davis: Are there logistical things involved in being traded that fans don't understand? Like you were saying with your car?Smith: Yeah. That. Dealing with the rent at this place and then having to get another one, and getting the rent started there. It's a lot of things. The cost of living changes. Your paycheck changes - whenever you see a tax-free state and then you go into New York that's probably one of the highest. There's a lot of things that go into it that you don't realize.Davis: Everybody is curious about Luka Doncic, your former teammate on the Mavericks. When was the first time you realized, 'Oh this kid is very good'?<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Smith: Probably the first time we played. The first time we played was in practice. It wasn't even a practice, it was in the summer time, just like pick-up. And we were on teams at the time, too, and it was just like, his ability to make reads on the fly and things like that. I knew he was pretty talented.Davis: Were you aware of him beforehand? Had you seen video of him?Smith: Yeah, I seen video of probably all the top-10 draft prospects last year. I watched all of them.Davis: Going back to the Knicks, a big part of the conversation about the trade was how the Knicks now have cap space to try and hit it big in free agency. Is it distracting for you to try to play through that and not think, like, what if, or what could happen?Smith: Nah, I mean, that ain't got nothing to do with me. Knicks guard Dennis Smith Jr. talks being in the Kristaps Porzingis blockbuster, what fans don't realize about trades, eating octopus, and jumping over J. Cole

Since 2005, American consumption of diet soda has fallen by more than 27% - a loss of 834 million cases. In 15 years, the category went from accounting for nearly 30% of all carbonated beverages by volume sold in the US to roughly 25%, according, to Beverage Digest data. And, the fall of diet isn't slowing down. Diet brands like Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi have accounted for 94% of all carbonated soft drink declines since 2010. "It's a staggering figure," Jonas Feliciano, a market consultant for Beverage Digest, said at the trade publication's Future Smarts conference in New York in June. The US is turning against sugar-packed sodas, with nutrition advocate rallying against Pepsi and Coke sale of calorie-packed beverages. Diet sodas at first seem like the perfect replacement - a lower-calorie option that people can drink without worrying about their health. However, sales are dropping even faster than full-calorie beverages. If soda giants want their diet business to survive in 2016, they need to answer one question: Why do customers hate zero-calorie sodas? <h3>The demonization of diet</h3><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><a href="https://flic.kr/p/LDanw">niallkennedy / Flickr</a></div></div></div>Diet soda hit its peak in 2005, when more than 3 billion cases of diet sodas were sold in a year. However, as diet sodas peaked, concerns regarding aspartame and other artificial sweeteners were gaining momentum. While the FDA and most nutritionists agree that aspartame is safe to consume, soda giants began to look for other solutions as sales declined. While Coca-Cola remains committed to aspartame, last August, PepsiCo announced that it was cutting aspartame from Diet Pepsi, citing not health concerns, but customer demand. "Diet cola drinkers in the US told us they wanted aspartame-free Diet Pepsi and we're delivering," Seth Kaufman, senior vice president of Pepsi and Flavors Portfolio, said in a statement. "We recognize consumer demand is evolving and we're confident cola-lovers will enjoy the crisp, light taste of this new product." Consumers didn't respond at Pepsi had hoped. The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/customers-complain-about-new-diet-pepsi-2015-8">negative backlash was immediate,</a> and, instead of stopping falling sales, Diet Pepsi's performance only declined after the new recipe's debut.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">Getty Images/Fernando Leon</div></div></div>"Diet Pepsi is awful," one customer wrote on the company's <a href="https://www.facebook.com/PepsiUS?fref=ts">Facebook page </a>soon after the aspartame-free version was released. "I hate the new flavor."Ultimately, Americans drank less of both Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi - the two brands that make up half of all diet soda sales - in the last year. In 2015, Diet Pepsi consumption dropped by 5.8% by volume, while Diet Coke dropped by 5.6%, according to Beverage Digest data. Clearly, including or cutting aspartame isn't the only problem in the diet soda industry. Instead, the issue may be in the inherent nature of diet sodas."The focus has largely been on new product formulations that seek to mimic their full sugar counterparts. That, in essence, is where some of the problems lie," Feliciano said of the diet soda industry. "There's no no-calorie sweetener that is currently on the market that can 100% mimic the taste of sugar or high fructose corn syrup."Basically, when you want a Coke, you want a Coke, not something that tastes kind-of like a Coke. Some customers have become die-hard Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi fans - and, when companies change formulations to fit health trends, they lose those customers. However, new customers seeking lower-calorie options aren't gravitating towards lower-calorie imitations, as the anti-artificial ingredients trend remains strong in the food and beverage business. While this creates problems for diet soda brands, it also provides a possible solution for the industry. <h3>What's healthy now</h3><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/simonippon/3232189638"> Simon Desmarais/Flickr</a></div></div></div>Instead of diet soda, consumers are turning to functional beverages: options like energy drinks, sports drinks, tea, and bottled water that serve a clear purpose for consumers. In the same 15-year period the diet sodas declined by 28%, single-serve bottled water sales grew 76% by volume. Sports drinks grew 20%, while bottled, ready-to-drink tea grew a whopping 91%."A big part of their success is there is no full-flavor original to compare them to," said Feliciano. As it's become clear that diet sodas aren't the new, healthy option that consumers are looking for, soda companies have been scrambling to invest in beverages that Americans are drinking, many of them noncarbonated.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image">@smartwater on InstagramSoda companies are increasingly betting on water.</div></div></div>Coke announced in April that sales of noncarbonated "still" beverages, including water and Minute Maid, <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2016/04/20/coke-q1-beats-estimates-still-beverage-growth-drives-quarter/83240082/">had increased 7%</a>. Its packaged-water volume increased in the double digits in the first quarter of 2016, as did other healthier ready-to-drink options, like sports drinks (7%) and tea (2%)."Over the last 15 years, we've gone from still being a single-digit part of our portfolio to now over 25% of our portfolio," Coca-Cola COO James Quincey said of non-carbonated offerings in an earnings call in April. "We expect to continue to grow faster in stills ... and we'll continue to look for acquisitions to accelerate our growth."Early in June, Coca-Cola announced it is buying the largest soy-beverage brand in Latin America<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/coca-cola-acquires-ades-for-575-million-2016-6"> for $575 million.</a> In January, the company <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/africa-is-the-future-of-coca-cola-2016-2">purchased a 40% stake </a>in Nigeria's largest juice maker, TGI Group's Chi Ltd, in January, with plans to buy the rest within the next three years. PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi said in April that less than 25% of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/pepsi-shifts-away-from-soda-2016-4">company's global sales are from soda.</a> Instead, the company is focusing on healthy snacks and non-carbonated beverages - a process the company calls "future-proofing."<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">AP</div></div></div>However, when it comes to "future-proofing" the soda business, it's clearly not simply about cutting sugar and calories. If it was, the diet soda industry would still be thriving. Instead, it comes down serving a beverage that serves a function for consumers - and doesn't try to imitate the sodas that Americans know so well.For example, PepsiCo's Mountain Dew Kickstart has been one of the biggest success stories in the beverage industry in recent years. A 12-ounce can contains real juice, 60 calories, and 92 mg of caffeine. It's not a health drink, but it is one that fits a consumer's need for caffeination, without the negative stigma associated with soda. 'The energy beverage brand, which launched in 2013, now generates more than<a href="http://www.pepsico.com/live/pressrelease/mtn-dew-kickstart-expands-product-lineup-with-introduction-of-four-bold-new-flav01192016"> $300 million in annual retail sales.</a>In 2016, when consumers think healthy, they don't think diet. He was 11 years old when a woman at his church, impressed by his drawing ability, offered to have him create a sign for her storefront. She would give him $25 for the work, which for a kid from a blue-collar family in Flint, Michigan was quite a pay day. He was told to complete the sign within a week."I thought, 'This is going to be easy!'" Crews recalled to Business Insider in a recent interview. "So I spent the week watching cartoons, hanging out, playing around, and the day before it was due I started. But the paint wasn't sticking to the canvas, everything was going wrong, it was awful. The woman showed up at the house and looked at it and was like, 'I've never been more disappointed.' I was crushed. I didn't put any effort into it. I vowed to work hard after that. I never wanted anyone to have that disappointment in me again."And Crews' career proves that he's never forgotten that life lesson. From being the face of Old Spice commercials to his memorable roles in movies ("Idiocracy," "The Expendables") and TV ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine"), thanks to his hulking size matched with his comedic talents, Crews, 49, has gone from being broke after a lackluster career in the NFL, to being an actor who seems to always have a new goal he's chasing down.And recently Crews also stood up and became part of the #MeToo movement - the viral wave on social <keyword id="6354777" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Media">media</keyword> denouncing sexual misconduct in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein allegations. Basically a glorified tackling dummy in the league after being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the 11th round in 1991, Crews also played for the San Diego Chargers and Washington Redskins. He walked away from the game after being on the practice squad for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1996. He played a total of 32 games over his 5-year career.With no other career to fall back on, Crews tried to get into acting, but quickly realized having the NFL on his resume didn't equal instant success."It was a big shock to me," Crews said about not finding immediate fame in the entertainment world. "I moved to Los Angeles thinking that because I was a football player, I was going to get a lot of big opportunities. They didn't even have a football team then, nobody cared!"Crews said he spent a year broke, and had to get a job sweeping floors at a factory to make ends meet."I realized I had to start all over again," he said. "I gotta sweep these floors and make sure they are clean but I also felt like I was doing something about the situation. It was a gut check."<h2>Finding his big break in "Friday After Next"</h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">New Line Cinema</div></div></div>With no acting experience but a lot of desire, Crews got himself into auditions thanks to his size and outgoing personality. It led to him being cast on the syndicated show "Battle Dome" in 1999 - think a combination of "American Gladiators" and pro wrestling - where he played the character "T-Money" for two seasons. He also got extra work on movies like "Training Day" and the Matthew Perry comedy "Serving Sara."Then in 2002 he got his big break.After working security on the set of 2000's "Next Friday," the sequel to the Ice Cube stoner comedy "Friday," Cube cast Crews in the third movie, "Friday After Next." Crews played Damon, an ex-con who basically was the intimidating presence in the movie (as Tommy "Tiny" Lister's Deebo character was in the first two movies).But Crews took the character to a whole new level and became a standout in the movie. This was particularly because his Damon character is sexually attracted to another male character, Money Mike (Katt Williams), a storyline that at the time in black culture was very taboo."I remember talking to Katt and saying, 'If this is the last thing we ever do, they can love us or they can hate us, but we have to make sure they never forget us,'" Crews said. "That was our whole mantra. Do something that will just make everyone's eyes bug out."And they did just that. Crews said he pushed the homosexual tendencies of the Damon character to the point that even on set fellow actors thought it was going too far.However, despite the movie being a box-office bomb (it grossed only <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=fridayafternext.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$33.3 million worldwide</a>), Crews was one of the highlights."At the premiere, Ice Cube came up to Katt and me and he was like, 'That whole third act with you and Katt takes over the whole movie.'" Crews said. "And I was like, wow. I got respect from people in the industry because I was willing to go all in."<h2>The Old Spice commercials</h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">YouTube</div></div></div>Crews' "all in" approach led him to be a huge part of an advertising campaign that has influenced the way commercials are made today.In 2010, he began doing commercials for Old Spice deodorant called "Odor Blockers," and the company's YouTube channel suddenly became one of the most addictive destinations on the site. Created by the Wieden+Kennedy ad agency and directed by Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, of "Tim and Eric Awesome Show" fame, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hq2SlCja3zo&amp;list=RDHq2SlCja3zo&amp;t=103" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the videos</a> instantly became viral thanks to Crews insanely yelling and screaming while doing bizarre things (with the help of CGI). Whether it was rolling his head down a bowling lane, popping his now-famous pecs, or suddenly appearing in another brand's commercials, Crews embodied the insanity that made the commercials - as well as Isaiah Mustafa's equally zany "<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_Your_Man_Could_Smell_Like" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Smell Like a Man, Man</a>" Old Spice commercials - go on to win advertising awards and spawn countless imitators."I remember the first time we shot any of the Old Spice commercials we did three on the same day because we kept coming up with ideas," Crews said. "I had to sign contracts and fax them to Wieden+Kennedy on set because I was only signed to do one ad.""I trusted these guys and it was a magical moment," Crews continued. "It's been eight years and I'm still doing them. I'm filming a new one on Thursday!"<h2> President Camacho from "Idiocracy"</h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">20th Century Fox</div></div></div>Through the years Crews has played some entertaining characters, but his most memorable (so far) is President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho from the 2006 movie "Idiocracy."Though hardly anyone saw the movie when it was released, it's found a second life on Blu-ray, cable, and streaming. And Crews' portrayal of the president in a future when corporations are king and everyone is stupid has gotten to cult icon status.There was even talk of Crews portraying Camacho in some <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/terry-crews-says-no-idiocracy-anti-donald-trump-ads-2016-7">anti-Donald Trump ads</a> that "Idiocracy" director Mike Judge was going to make during the 2016 presidential campaign. But Crews balked, saying he would only do it if all the candidates were made fun of.Looking back now, Crews feels he's protective of the Camacho character because of how it can be shaped to any political agenda - none of which the actor wants to be a part of."People are way more complex than Republican and Democrat, and that's what I love about 'Idiocracy,' it just told the truth," Crews said. "That's the comedy I like to do. I still think there's room to do Camacho stuff, I would love to. But I want to also just tell the truth and then let it lay."<h2>"Brooklyn Nine-Nine"</h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">Fox</div></div></div>Recently, Crews' steadiest work has been playing Detective Sergeant Terence "Terry" Jeffords for five seasons on the Fox comedy series "Brooklyn Nine-Nine."And if you're wondering, no, it's not a coincidence Crews' character is named Terry on the show."We designed the role for Terry, we named the character 'Terry' just to tell him how much we wanted him to do it," Michael Schur, co-creator/executive producer of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," told Business Insider in an email. "Everything about Terry Crews is impressive - his talent, his work ethic, his courage, his activism, everything. In fact, his biceps are the least impressive thing about him, which is saying something."There is no better place than TV for actors to work on their craft, and Crews is appreciative of the show for that - and for the incredible response he's received from the show's fans over the years."One woman told me she watches 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' because her son passed away and they enjoyed watching it together," Crews said. "So when she watches it now it brings her back to that time. You start to realize the influence. "I felt, wait, furniture is art, if you make it it's art!"Crews dove into the project, coming up with sketches on his own. It was evident for those working with him that he wasn't just going to slap his name on anything placed in front of him."He had so many solid ideas that the difficult part was choosing which ones to pursue for his first collection," Jerry Helling, creative director of furniture maker Bernhardt Design - which is doing Crews' line - told Business Insider in an email. "His knowledge of design and his passion for the industry, combined with his artistic skills made him an ideal collaborator."Crews' collection ranges from seating to tables, all inspired by ancient Egypt. The pilot has already been shot with his "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" costar Andy Samberg as the guest."The pilot looks great, we got a lot of pitch meetings lined up," Crews said. "Our biggest thing is will the show be 30 minutes, or 10 minutes, or even a couple of minutes? We can tailor to whoever wants it. Crews passed on exotic locations and returned to the region where he was born and raised to show its resurgence. They had a really nice list and the fact that they came to me was a big honor. So they basically said I could do a doc on any place I wanted.&#xa0;BI: Anywhere in the world?Crews: Anywhere in the world. But then it hit me there's one place in the United States that everyone has heard of but no one really knows, and it's Detroit. Unless you're from there you don't really know Detroit. It has never been a travel destination. People are hyper-alert to the negative things that have happened there, but if you go there you see people riding bikes and birds chirping, it's a beautiful place. So I wanted to give another view and show the good things that are happening.BI: You showcase so many things in the city, was there one that stood out for you?Crews: The farming. That was crazy. You can't get more inner-city than Detroit, and the fact that these areas were being repurposed [as farms], and there were amazing people who knew all about farming and how it went. And they produce so much food they have to volunteer people to take the food!<div></div>BI: You also highlight your hometown of Flint, which has gone through a lot recently with the water problems. How is Flint now and how is your family?Crews: The water situation was going on the whole time we filmed there. But while we filmed it turned out that was the last time I saw my mom in person alive. She died four months after we filmed there. So I decided this is not about the water crisis, this is about my mom. There was enough news on the water crisis, so this was about my mom and my family. I never knew this would be the last time I would see her alive so it was a very personal thing for me to edit. We thought about bringing up the whole water thing but we decided it has already been handled.BI: But outside of the show, how is the situation in Flint now?Crews: My father is still there. And people ask, 'Where is Terry Crews on the issue of the water crisis?' and the way I felt was I saw so many people using the situation for their own agenda so I made contributions anonymously. I didn't want "Terry Crews shows up with a truck full of water," because that doesn't solve the problem. I lived in Flint. You give the whole city a truck full of water they will just need it again next week. It's not just the pipes, the whole system is bad. I stayed out of it [publicly] because I didn't want to be a political football. Listen, Flint has been going through this for 30 years, man. When I was in high school there were problems. That's what made Michael Moore's career. Flint has had bad stories for 30 years.BI: So you wanted to bring some positivity to the region with the show.&#xa0;Crews: Exactly. I'm an incurable optimist. You have to see the good. You have to find what your thankful for to get energy. If you concentrate on what's wrong all the time you will run out.BI: Is it still hard to believe that Donald Trump, a real presidential nominee, is being compared to your "Idiocracy" character, president Camacho?&#xa0; <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Crews: Wow, it went non-stop. Believe me I've been hearing it every day and even at the convention I was like "This is a Camacho opening!" [Laughs] It blew my mind. No on knew how prophetic it was when we were doing ["Idiocracy"]. Again, on an optimistic note, I really really think America needs to see what's happening. I think now everybody sees the game. When you saw the whole <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/meredith-mciver-melania-trump-plagiarism-2016-7">plagiarized speech</a> it was so "whoa, that really, happened!" And I think now it forces people to really make decisions. To me, this stuff only makes you better. And you have to put it out there. But I am shocked it was so quick, that's all. I thought it would take 400 more years. [Laughs]BI: Is it true Mike Judge, the director of "Idiocracy," is doing <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/idiocracy-anti-donald-trump-ads-2016-6">anti-Trump fake ads</a>?&#xa0;Is Camacho coming back?Crews: You know what happened, it was killed because Etan Cohen, who wrote ["Idiocracy"], went out and said that we're making anti-Trump ads, but we weren't. This is not what we were doing. I'm not anti-Trump, I'm not anti-Hillary [Clinton]. I'm not pro anybody. What happened was we were going to do a whole thing about everyone. We were literally going to show a cage match between Camacho, Hillary, Trump, [Ted] Cruz, all those people. It was going to be funny. But when you make it an anti-Trump ad what's funny about that? Now you killed the comedy. When you have totally picked a side, there's no funny anymore. So I thought he killed it. Even Mike said it, he was like, 'Dude, I don't know what possessed him to call them anti-Trump ads because that's not what they were.' And I said, 'I know.'<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div> But it's funny because the media made Trump. When it was good for ratings you pumped it up. Now you complain. It's too late. And let me say again, I'm not anti-Trump or anti-Hillary, but what the media has to understand is if you live by the sword you die by the sword. Etan Cohen got happy and was like now we're going to knock him down and I was like "I'm not doing that." I never built him up in the first place.&#xa0;BI: So at one time you guys were going to do something but since the debates have ended you've squashed it.&#xa0;Crews: Squashed. It's killed. And everyone was coming to me saying "Can't wait for you to do the ad," and I was like, "I'm not doing any of that." Everyone wanted me to go against Trump, and I'm like, I'm not your gun. You're not going to use me to knock him down. I'm on no side at all and that's the clear message I'm trying to say.BI: And it doesn't sound like you want to make public who you'd vote for.Crews: That's my private decision. And people are angry. I'm just like I'm not getting into that. I'm not that dude. I will never stand for any agenda. Because what if the side you're on is wrong? Then you're stuck. I can't do it.&#xa0;BI: You gave a very moving <a href="https://www.facebook.com/realterrycrews/videos" target="_blank">Facebook video post</a> following the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/officer-reacted-to-gun-not-race-in-shooting-2016-7">Philando Castile</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/alton-sterling-police-shooting-2016-7">Alton Sterling</a> shootings. What motivated you to post your thoughts?Crews: My heart broke watching those videos of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling. And I just felt, you can't tell me there's another way. That's all I wanted to say. And with the media, and the coverage, when are you hyping it up to a point where now subconsciously it makes people who are not black feel safer that this is happening? And that's just a theory. I didn't accuse anyone, people were coming at me on Facebook about it. But then on the other side, as a black man, subconsciously, it makes me hyper-vigilant. If I get pulled over tomorrow I'm thinking about the videos, I'm thinking I'm going to get shot. And the day I posted that video that night the Dallas shootings happened, I couldn't believe it. And that's the hyper-vigilance I spoke about.&#xa0; BI: And some people will be reading this and think, what's celebrity Terry Crews know? But you state in your video that you were pulled over once in LA and the officer walked up to your car with a gun drawn.Crews: Yeah. This was my first time in LA and the cop had his gun pointed at me. And I remember I had my hands at ten and two [on the steering wheel]. And I said I'm not going to move my hands because I knew he could kill me. And I was just like why does this police officer have his gun out? But it was after the LA riots, so maybe it was police being hyper-vigilant. But I knew to be calm. I didn't speak until I was spoken to. I wasn't going to give him a reason. I mean, just as a Caucasian male walks through an alley that's full of gang members and he feels very intimidated, I used to feel that way walking through a bank. A black man walking into a bank and you have all of these older white gentleman looking at me, I felt very intimidated. These are the realities of how you think and you don't even know why. The hyper-vigilance. One by one I've gone through the things in my own life in my own head that take me out. And that's what I was trying to tell people with the Facebook video. To think things out. And another thing we need are good police officers, and there are a lot of them, to stand up and say this is not me. That would heal so much. But a lot of times these people don't say anything.
