<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="13358681" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="hannah-zeile" source="Orion">Hannah Zeile</keyword> told Insider she had hiccups while filming the 2018 "<keyword id="12745378" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="this-is-us" source="Orion">This Is Us</keyword>" Super Bowl episode. </li><li>After scaring her didn't work, <keyword id="12890410" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="milo-ventimiglia" source="Orion">Milo Ventimiglia</keyword> asked someone on set to get her <keyword id="13517603" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="peanut-butter" source="Orion">peanut butter</keyword>. </li></ul><p>Even the most heartbreaking events in <keyword id="11898468" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="tv" source="Orion">TV</keyword> history have anecdotes behind them that will make you laugh out loud. </p><p>During an interview with Insider in February, "<a href="https://www.insider.com/this-is-us-hannah-zeile-reveals-mistake-thanksgiving-episode-2022-3">This Is Us" star Hannah Zeile</a>, who plays Kate Pearson as a teenager and young adult on the hit family drama, shared a funny memory she has from filming a scene from the Pearson house fire episode, which aired on February 4, 2018 — <a href="https://www.insider.com/facts-about-the-super-bowl-2018-2">Super Bowl Sunday</a>. </p><p>"I remember we were about to do this scene where Milo, Mandy, Niles and I crawl through the window," Zeile said. "And I just got the worst case of hiccups for no reason." </p><div type="image" title="&quot;This Is Us.&quot;" height="2000" width="2666" msid="91629628" hostid="261"></div><p>The episode, titled "Super Bowl Sunday," was a pivotal one in the series. It provided viewers with the answer to the most <a href="https://www.insider.com/this-is-us-celebrity-guest-stars-who-played-themselves">burning question "This Is Us"</a> ever posed — what happened to Jack Pearson? </p><p>"We were really working with real fire. We were doing really late night shoots till like 4:00 a.m. And I tried to do as many of my own stunts as I could," Zeile said. "We were so aware of how important this was going to be, because we had spent so much time building Jack's death up that we knew it was very important to get this right." </p><p>In other words, it was not the time for hiccups. </p><p>Zeile's castmates tried to help her out, popping out of places to scare her and encouraging her to drink water, but nothing was working. Zeile said she couldn't focus on the intensity of escaping the fire through the window while hiccuping. </p><div type="image" title="Hannah Zeile on &quot;This Is Us.&quot;" height="1604" width="2139" msid="91629629" hostid="261"></div><p>And then her <a href="https://www.insider.com/this-is-us-milo-ventimiglia-jack-pearson-on-pedestal-2022-5">TV dad Milo Ventimiglia</a> came to the rescue, just like Jack does for Kate on the night of the fire when he rescues the family dog, increasing the amount of time he inhaled smoke and leading to <a href="https://time.com/5133647/this-is-us-jack-pearson-fire-safety/#:~:text=The%20final%20piece%20of%20the,rescue%20the%20family%20dog%2C%20Louis.">his fatal heart attack</a>. </p><p>"And then Milo, all of a sudden was like, 'Can somebody bring her a spoon of peanut butter?'" Zeile told Insider."And I was like, 'I'm not hungry.'"</p><p>He told her it would get rid of her hiccups, so she tried it. "I just know that I ate the spoonful of peanut butter and my hiccups went away and then we were ready to roll," she said, noting that she didn't remember the science that Ventimiglia said was behind it.</p><p>Insider looked into the science behind curing the hiccups, and it turns out Ventimiglia's advice was just lucky — peanut butter isn't a fail-safe cure. </p><p>Hiccups are involuntary contractions of the diaphragm with many causes, according to Dr. Eric Voigt, who <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cure-for-hiccups-2016-7">Insider spoke to in 2016</a>. So, he recommended trying tasks that will force you to move your diaphragm differently when you have them. He also suggested holding your breath or drinking a glass of water from the opposite side, which forces muscles to contract in a way that stops hiccups. </p><div type="image" title="Moore and Zeile as Rebecca and Kate Pearson." height="1687" width="2250" msid="91629631" hostid="261"></div><p>As for why slowly eating peanut butter sometimes helps people cure their hiccups, internist Tyler Cymet told <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/science/2014/jun/06/scientific-research-hiccups-cure-cause">The Guardian in 2014</a>, "The peanut butter is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy, where you're controlling your breathing and thinking about what you're doing instead of getting anxious." </p><p>Ventimiglia may not be a scientist, but he is a great acting mentor according to Zeile. </p><p>She recalled <a href="https://www.insider.com/this-is-us-sterling-k-brown-hannah-zeile-advice-2022-3">some of the best advice</a> he ever gave her while they were filming the scene where Jack tells Kate he's an alcoholic in season two, episode two.</p><p>"He just said, 'Really just hear what Jack is saying. Really just listen,'" she said, remembering him reminding her not to think too much about what she was doing. The small direction helped Zeile zoom into what Kate was really feeling the moment she learned that her <a href="https://www.insider.com/this-is-us-milo-ventimiglia-different-versions-of-jack-pearson-2022-3">hero was more flawed</a> than she ever imagined. </p><p>The final season of "This Is Us" airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on <keyword id="11940492" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="nbc" source="Orion">NBC</keyword>. </p>

But she hit the jackpot when it comes to on-screen parents with <a href="https://www.insider.com/this-is-us-milo-ventimiglia-took-vows-mandy-moore-premiere-2022-1">Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore</a> — and she knows it. </p><p>"They're just very, very good people," Zeile told Insider. She said Ventimiglia and Moore have "so much wisdom to offer" because of how long they've been working in the <keyword id="11896019" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="entertainment" source="Orion">entertainment</keyword> industry. (Ventimiglia rose to fame as Jess on <a href="https://www.insider.com/gilmore-girls-stars-where-are-they-now-years-later-photos">the WB hit "Gilmore Girls,"</a> and Moore's song "Candy" thrust her into the spotlight at age 15.)</p><p>"But they never ever make it feel like they're trying to talk down to me," Zeile continued. </p><p>"I really just learn from being around them, and from watching them and the way they carry themselves," she said. "Once it's all over if I ever needed anything, they make it very clear that this is a forever relationship that we've created and that they're always going to be there."</p><h2>Zeile says Ventimiglia and Moore have also given her invaluable acting tips</h2><div type="image" title="&quot;This Is Us.&quot;" height="2000" width="2666" msid="90385800" hostid="261"></div><p>Though she said she learns the most just by watching them, Zeile does recall a very important acting lesson she got from Ventimiglia during a pivotal scene between Jack and Kate on the second episode of season two called "A Manny-Splendored Thing."</p><p>In the scene, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvK1skcg5PM&amp;ab_channel=NBC">Jack tells Kate he's an alcoholic</a>. "Obviously, I actually didn't have much dialogue in that scene," Zeile said. But she still remembers Ventimiglia giving her "such a simple piece of advice." </p><p>"He just said, 'Really just hear what Jack is saying. "I just appreciate how much she really, really cares. She knows Rebecca very well and cares about the work that she's doing so passionately."</p><p>The final season of "This Is Us" airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.</p>

"It was completely cold, and then it was almost raw inside."</p><p>But actors have to think about continuity, and Zeile explained that Fitch didn't want to "ruin the take," so he had to keep eating the cold, nearly raw meat. </p><p>"He was trying so hard to keep a straight face, but his face was like — he just looked ill. When they finally cut, we were all dying laughing," Zeile recalled.</p><p>It was an unfortunate acting choice, but Fitch learned his lesson. Zeile assured Insider that in subsequent years her costar would "cut it open first before even daring to bite the meat." </p><p>Fitch's temporary discomfort has made a <a href="https://www.insider.com/this-is-us-eris-baker-interview-sterling-k-brown-advice-2022-2">lasting memory for the "This Is Us" cast</a>.
