The old vacuum left my floor clean-ish, but not clean like it is now. Coupled with the fact that there are a good amount of accessories for cleaning corners and tight areas, this is a really versatile vacuum.It was able to clean up most of my spills quickly and easily even on the first go-over. It picked up dust with ease, and also picked up larger spills like cereal, and even things like confetti. We also tested the vac in a variety of different settings and rooms for comparison. For starters, we vacuumed a carpet that got cleaned regularly with our old, cheap vacuum - and the difference was night and day. The vacuum made the carpet look a whole lot cleaner than it did before. Then we moved to a room in the house that almost never got vacuumed and again, it was able to pick up the majority of dust and dirt on the first go-over. Finally, we tested the vacuum on a hard floor in the kitchen, and found that it worked perfectly fine there too. It easily picked up crumbs and other bits and pieces without any issues. If you've ever used a vacuum with a cord, you're probably used to plugging and unplugging it every time you move into a different room. You'll get up to 30 minutes of use out of a charge, but if that's not enough, the vacuum comes with a second battery that is super easy to switch out. The base can charge both batteries at once, so they'll be ready to go the next time you need to switch one out. There's a switch to keep that trigger pushed in so you don't have to hold it down the entire time you're vacuuming. The vacuum also has a MAX mode, which is great for the extra embedded spots of dirt and grime that you want to suck up. The Tineco A11 Hero is pretty quiet too. Although, I am not sure of its durability in Indian homes as I've never used them for more than a month or two. <div type="image" title="Dyson V15 1" msid="93143385" hostid="261" sizebytes="277760" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The Dyson V15 Detect still looks the same, but doesn&amp;#39;t feel old.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The V15 Detect has been with me for around a month, and so far, it's been a great experience using it. It is said to have 1.5 times more suction and 54% more bin capacity than the Dyson V12 Detect Slim. This means the suction is more powerful and can now store more debris in the bin. Why is the price so high? The price is not surprising for those aware of Dyson's products. As per the company, they usually carry a premium price tag for their design, service, and innovative technology. In addition, it has some great-sounding tech built inside, like a laser on the cleaning head to highlight microscopic dust particles, a sensor to track evidence of cleaning by gauging particle data, self-adjusting suction intensity, and a digital motor apart. All this in a good-looking cordless vacuum experience without compromising suction power. So I decided to test all of these features and see whether it does what it promises, and if yes, is it worth the premium? Design and build: Same futuristic laser blaster design <div type="image" title="Dyson V15 2" msid="93143451" hostid="261" sizebytes="190122" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The bin on the V15 Detect is larger than its predecessor.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>As I mentioned, the design is similar to the V11 Absolute Pro, with a slightly larger 0.75-liter bin and handheld unit weighing 3.1kg. Unfortunately, the weight takes away the ease of use; although I didn't have an issue, someone like my 55-year-old mother would not be able to run it for a long stretch. <div type="image" title="Dyson V15 Detect" height="900" width="1200" msid="93143692" hostid="261" sizebytes="2066023"></div>The increased weight is also because it has got some significant upgrades on the inside over its predecessor. The most prominent one is the 230W motor which is more powerful than the V11. Further, an acoustic piezo sensor tells the amount and type of dust particles it picks on an LCD and the remaining battery run time. I couldn't verify the particle data, but the battery stats are reliable so far. The particle stats essentially tell how dirty the floor is before and after cleaning. <div type="image" title="Dyson V15" msid="93143588" hostid="261" sizebytes="1669657" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The click and attach mechanism for attachments is still the same as seen on V11 range.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The attachment mechanism remains the same. It has a simple click of a button to detach and insert to attach extensions and attachments. I really like this element of the Dyson design. Removing or adding parts to their products is a very satisfying experience and can quickly be done by anyone as it doesn't ask for added power or precision. That said, I faced some issues while opening the bin flap of its predecessor, which seems to be fixed on this one and is no longer flimsy. Although, it's still the exact push-to-eject mechanism as before. <div type="image" title="Dyson V15 5" msid="93143776" hostid="261" sizebytes="1530850" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The dust sticks to the bin&amp;#39;s surface, which is why regular cleaning is a must.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The quality of the material is consistent across the vacuum and its attachments. It also has a detachable battery. That means you can invest in a spare battery and double the output. I miss a design feature on this machine: a lock switch for the power trigger. Right now, I must keep one finger on the button while using it. While not having a lock may avoid accidents, it's also tiring for some. So much so that I felt the need for it in just 15 minutes of cleaning. That's also because it's heavy. I'll have no discomfort putting one finger busy for long if this was a lighter machine. Attachments: Made to reach anywhere but not to scratch hard stains Unboxing Dyson's products is an inviting process, and repackaging them is a nightmare. Anyhow, it comes neatly packed in a box that has eight attachments. <div type="image" title="Dyson V15 5" msid="93143945" hostid="261" sizebytes="80914" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Dyson V15 Detect&amp;#39;s packaing is neat.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>There are two main cleaning heads of all. The first is the Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head with a soft brush bar meant to clean hard floors without damaging them. Note that this is the only one with the green laser and the one I used the most at my home, where there's a mix of marble and tile flooring. The laser projects a green beam in front of the cleaning head, exposing the microscopic dust particles on the floor. This particular feature is an addition to those obsessed with cleaning. I had a similar individual at my home, and trust me, they did not let the vacuum cleaner rest unless it died. Despite getting the floor cleaned with conventional 'jhadu and pochha' (broom and mop) in the afternoon, this laser showed a floor full of fine dust after a few hours. What's better is that you can clean floors even in the dark. Imagine someone with a habit of compulsive cleaning having this at home - they're going to have one arm more muscular than the other. Jokes aside, this feature not just wants you to clean more but also shows how dirty the floors are even when not visible to the naked eye. <div type="image" title="Dyson V15 6" msid="93144434" hostid="261" sizebytes="1757057" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The fluffy laser cleaner head is very effective on hard floor.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The other cleaning head is the High-Torque, which is noisier and more powerful against bigger particles, hair, and rigid surfaces. It also has a layer of polycarbonate teeth which also scratches and collects soiled dust. A miniature version of this cleaning head, the Hair Screw Tool, is designed for smaller tasks that the High-Torque can't reach. But I noticed a few scratches on its bottom after cleaning my wooden cupboard, which is a letdown. <div type="image" title="Dyson V15 7" msid="93144459" hostid="261" sizebytes="1298159" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;In a weird incident, the Hair Screw Tool got scratched after I used it on wood.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>Both the cleaning heads are movable, so you don't have to lift and change the cleaning path. Instead, you can tilt it to either side to turn the head in different directions. In addition, it comes with four more attachments that allow it to reach tight spaces like gaps between sofas, keyboards, cars, under the bed, and similar. <div type="image" title="Dyson V15 Detect comes with seven attachments, each for different purposes." msid="93144498" hostid="261" sizebytes="90400"></div>Lastly, you get a wall mount to make a stand for the machine and a storage clip that lets you attach two accessories to the extension tube’s barrel. <div type="image" title="Dyson V15 8" msid="93144559" hostid="261" sizebytes="1974179" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;You get a storage clip that lets you attach two accessories to the extension tube’s barrel.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>These attachments cover most of the cleaning needs. But it can't mop, and that's a need in typical Indian households. It also fails to remove dry stains on the floor. So be clear that this tool can remove dust from every corner of your house but not wipe the floor. Maintenance: Easy to keep clean and working The Dyson V15 Detect doesn't really need a lot of maintenance, but there are a few things you need to clean periodically. Dirt compartment- It is easy to clean; you just have to empty it and then wash it once in a while so that it doesn't collect debris in the corners. You might need to use a brush or a cloth to clean it. Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head roll- It comes with a soft brush roll made of a material that will need regular cold water. The laser sensor will also need cleaning if you use it regularly. High Torque brush roll- You can detach the brush rolls by removing the side cover using a coin. Then slide out the brush roll to clear debris or hair without damaging the bristles. HEPA filter- The HEPA filter is found on the top of the handheld unit, right below the LCD. It can be removed by twisting the purple head anti-clockwise. Like the fluffy brush roll, this must be washed under cold water when the machine indicates it. Make sure to put it back after drying it, and it's fixed properly. Performance: It sucks so well that it blows away every other cordless alternative This is where the Dyson V15 Detect shuts down the alternates and wins even at a higher price. After using it, I can confidently say that its only competition in terms of performance is a Dyson vacuum cleaner. The Indian market is still short of its alternatives; an advantage Dyson is leveraging. I shifted to a new house in the first week of July, and guess who did most of the cleaning? This machine. I got a chance to use it on hard floors, small carpets, sofas, mattresses, car, and cupboards, and I'm pretty impressed with how quickly and easily it cleans all types of places and surfaces. The cleaning heads do a brilliant job. Especially the laser head is great at picking up microscopic dust. Pass it through the floor once, and it's all gone. You get to feel the heaviness and release while sweeping through the floor. Overall, it is the best vacuum cleaner for cleaning efficiency and ease. But as I mentioned, it doesn't mop, and it doesn't scrub stains off the surfaces. Charging and battery life The first bummer after paying almost ₹63K for a vacuum cleaner is that it takes five hours to charge from 0-100%. That's a common issue with cordless vacuum cleaners. And with all that suction power, it only cleans for an hour in the best possible case. Put it on a thick carpet, which will come down to 40 minutes on 'Eco' mode. <div type="image" title="Dyson V15 10" msid="93144682" hostid="261" sizebytes="1582781" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;LCD displays the suction modes. Auto is best for most requirements.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>It has three modes- Eco, Auto, and Boost. Eco mode is the most power efficient and provides light suction, which is suitable for tile and marble floors. Auto mode adjusts the suction power as needed to give you a balance of cleaning and battery efficiency. And Boost mode uses the full force of the machine and offers lesser battery backup. With a mixed-use on a marble floor, mattresses, and others, I got around 43 minutes in Eco mode, 19 minutes in Auto mode, and 11 minutes in Boost mode. If you have a big house requiring over an hour of cleaning, buying an additional battery is best. Should you buy it? The high price of this vacuum cleaner strikes off a large chunk of the customer base for a market like India. However, that doesn't take away the utility of this machine and makes it a superb vacuum cleaner for those who want to make cleaning easy and need one solution for most cleaning needs. Its powerful suction and ability to detect and remove microscopic dust are unmatched. Additionally, pet owners will find this extremely useful to pull their hair from carpets, sofas, and other surfaces. Don't buy it if you're expecting to mop and if you have a large house, as it dies in under an hour and takes close to five hours to charge. Unless, of course, you are okay with investing in an extra battery. Quick tip: Take photos throughout the process of disassembling your air conditioner to guide you when you put everything back together. Drago says carefully keeping track of the screws will also make the process smoother.To remove the case, you will need a screwdriver. Then spray down the interior with hydrogen peroxide. Drago stressed cleaning the drain pain and fan blade since these are areas where mold could grow. After letting it sit for about 10 minutes, lightly spray down the interior with your water hose. Hold the unit at an angle to allow the water and debris to drain. "Maybe spray it down one more time and get any of that hydrogen peroxide out of there," said Drago. "You don't want that sitting there and blowing back into the room."<h3>The exterior</h3>How often: AnnuallyYou can clean the exterior of your air conditioner with a damp cloth. He noted that the fan blade and drip pan are common places where mold forms. Drago stressed the importance of using hydrogen peroxide 3% to scrub the interior clean. "That should kill most things," he said.<h2>How to clean a window AC unit without removing it</h2>The safest way to thoroughly clean your window air conditioner is to remove it from the window, but that's not always possible. Fortunately, there are some cleaning tasks you can do with the AC installed.You can clean the front evaporator coils by removing the filter and front grill of your window AC. Use compressed air to blow dust and debris from the fins. Depending on the type of fabric you're cleaning, remove crumbs and dirt using the brush attachment on your vacuum. For excessive pet or human hair, use a lint roller.</li><li>Use a fabric shaver to depill the surface. If your couch can get wet (again, check the label), you should then "blot [it] with cool water and add a little castile soap if needed," Rapinchuk instructs.You'll need to follow a different cleaning method, depending on the stain. Here are some of the most common:<ul><li>Urine: To remove urine from your couch, gently dab (don't press too hard or you'll spread the stain) a homemade solution of 1 to 2 cups of water, 1 teaspoon of vinegar, and 1 teaspoon of dish soap on the stain. To treat the smell, follow this cleaning process with a spray solution consisting of 1 cup water, ½ cup dish soap, ¾ cup peroxide, and about 20 drops of your preferred essential oil(s) on the area. Finish by patting the spot completely dry with a clean cloth.</li><li>Blood and grease: Treat blood and grease spots by soaking them up with cool water and massaging in a drop of soap. Some messes are easy to clean up and others, like paint, might take just a bit more care and elbow grease. If the idea of dripping paint on your carpet fills you with panic, read on to learn exactly how to get that paint out, with pro tips from <keyword id="11898442" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="home" source="Orion">home</keyword> improvement &amp; renovation contractor Andrew Wilson of <a href="https://contractoradvisorly.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Contractor Advisorly</a>, interior designer and home improvement expert Gian Moore of <a href="https://mellowpine.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mellowpine</a>, and cleaning expert Dean Davies of <a href="https://www.fantasticservices.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fantastic Services</a>.<h2>Before you get started</h2>First of all, it's important to take note of exactly which type of paint is on your carpet, as different paint varieties have different cleaning requirements. <ul><li>Acrylic paint: A chemical-based paint that's widely available, acrylic paint is a popular choice for walls because of its color intensity and its durability. This paint dries quickly and is water-resistant.</li><li>Water-based or latex paint: Of all of the paint styles used for interior work, water-based paint (also known as "latex" paint) proves the easiest to clean. It also features a rapid dry time and gives off relatively low odor fumes.</li><li>Oil-based paint: Oil-based paint is durable and can handle a lot of contact without fading or chipping. Oil paint glides onto walls more smoothly than acrylic or latex paint. </li></ul>Quick tip: The faster you act to remove paint from carpet, the more successful your efforts will be. Experts agree that wet paint responds better to cleaning processes than dry paint, and while it's possible to remove dry paint stains from carpet, it takes a lot more work. <h2>How to get rid of wet acrylic paint in carpet</h2>Because acrylic paint is chemical-based, some DIYers assume that it won't respond to cleaning procedures. Luckily, acrylic paint can be removed from carpet, but you may need to make a special trip to the store to grab a bottle of acetone. Acetone, which is a chemical solvent, is easy to find at paint and hardware stores, and you can even pick it up at many pharmacies in the form of nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol (just be sure to read the label to make sure that acetone is the primary ingredient).<ol><li>Try to soak it up with a damp cloth or sponge. Acrylic paint responds well to water, so if the paint is still wet, the first step should be to soak a cloth or a sponge with warm water and to blot the stain until the wet paint comes out of the fibers.</li><li>If the damp cloth isn't picking up all of the wet paint, bring in the acetone. Moore recommends soaking a cloth in acetone or "using an eyedropper to apply acetone directly onto the stain."</li><li>Blot the stain with the cloth. When the cloth becomes saturated with the paint, "move to a clean area of the cloth," according to Moore. Keep an extra cloth on-hand in case you run out of clean areas of the first cloth.</li><li>Continue blotting until the stain is gone. Remember that "this process may make the stain appear worse before it gets better," says Moore. The stain might darken and appear to sink into the carpet fibers, but this is a temporary setback.</li></ol><h2>How to get rid of wet water-based/latex paint in carpet </h2><div type="image" title="A bunch of paint cans and brushes." height="1412" width="1883" msid="87213717" hostid="261"></div>Because latex paint is water-based, it can often prove easier to clean than its oil-based or acrylic equivalents. Water is the main solvent for these paints, so it naturally responds to cleaning solutions that are also made with water. To clean a latex paint spill, you'll need dishcloths or rags, mild dish soap, plenty of water, and a vacuum.<ol><li>Use one of the cloths (or a paper towel) to blot the stain. This helps to "remove as much wet paint as you can." Davies warns that you shouldn't "scrub, or the paint will be pushed further down into the carpet."</li><li>Add a teaspoon of dish soap to a cup of lukewarm water and stir to combine. Davies say to "make sure that the dish soap is mild" in order to avoid unintended carpet damage (like compromising the carpet dye). The dish soap will lift the paint from the carpet fibers, and the water will rinse out the water-based paint.</li><li>Dip one of the cloths into the soap solution. "Start working from the outside of the paint stain to the inside, gently blotting the affected area," Davies says.</li><li>Vacuum thoroughly once the area is dry. Davies states this will help pick up any leftover paint residue.</li></ol><h2>How to get rid of wet oil-based paint in carpet </h2>"Oil-based paint is the hardest type of paint to remove from the carpet," says Wilson. "Oil and water repel each other and oil-based paint has a thicker texture, so it will on average take longer than any of the other types and will require a more thorough cleaning." The best cleaning process for oil-based soap includes paper towels, hot water, dish soap, a small sharp knife (or a razor or sharp tweezers), and a handheld steamer.<ol><li>Use a wet paper towel to blot the area. This will "soak up any paint that hasn't already been absorbed into the carpet," says Wilson. Try to soak up as much paint with the wet paper towels as possible.</li><li>Scrape the paint. After you've soaked up as much of the paint as possible with the paper towels, "use something sharp like a knife to scrape the paint from the carpet fibers." This process will also help to peel up any of the oil paint that may have dried onto the carpet fibers.</li><li>Mix hot water with dish soap until you have a cleaning solution. Then, use the paper towels to apply the mixture to the stain.</li><li>Acetone can help remove stubborn spots. Wilson notes that acetone or paint thinner can be helpful for getting rid of oil-based paint that just won't budge, but he urges DIYers to "be very careful when using it. Acetone can potentially remove the color from a carpet if too much is used or if left on for too long." If you decide to try acetone, use it sparingly and only try it out "after you have used a towel to soak up the area and after you've tried to scrape the paint with a needlepoint or knife."</li><li>Remove leftover paint. Use the paper towels and cleaning solution to remove any leftover stains after it's been steamed.</li></ol><h2>How to clean dry paint from the carpet</h2>Once a paint spill dries and hardens, removal becomes trickier. Fortunately, dry paint isn't a lost cause. In order to lift these stains from the carpet, you'll want to start by using a steamer to rehydrate the paint enough to lift it from the fibers, but not so much that it sinks in and saturates the carpet. Then, use a sharp knife or razor to scrape as much paint as possible from the carpet fibers. Once you've done that, use the steamer to moisten the stain, then start blotting with paper towels or rags. Since acrylic paint is chemical-based and dries very quickly, Moore recommends soaking a cloth in acetone, or using an eyedropper to apply it directly and help remove the stain. The steam-scrape-blot process can then be repeated until the dried paint vanishes.<h2>Paint removal tips and tricks </h2><div type="image" title="A woman painting a wall." height="1414" width="1885" msid="87213719" hostid="261"></div>Don't scrub the stain. It may feel tempting to take a scrubbing brush to the stain, but Wilson tells us that this will do more harm than good. "When you scrub the paint with the intention of trying to remove it from the floor, it actually causes the paint to be absorbed further by the carpet fibers," he says. Some types of carpet should be professionally cleaned at all times. Our experts encourage carpet owners to invest in semi-regular professional cleanings as a general rule, but when it comes to specific carpet types, Moore says that synthetic carpets (any carpet made with chemical-based materials, like polyester or nylon) always needs to be professionally cleaned. "They are generally treated with stain repellents on the surface, says Moore. "And when the carpet is cleaned using detergents or any carpet cleaner, the layer of the stain repellent gets diluted. Its capability to prevent soiling of the carpet is reduced, so the carpets get dirtier faster." Wilson also states that wool carpets should be professionally treated, given they require adequate cleaning to maintain longevity. Wool can be very easily damaged by the chemicals in most stain removers.Preventing paint stains is easier than you may think. Of course, a paint-splatter mistake can happen at any time to anyone.
