India's Silicon Valley is awed by the rainbow-coloured halo in its skies — but take pictures at your own risk

Aditya-L1, the first space-based Indian observatory to study the <keyword id="24879" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="sun" source="Orion">Sun</keyword>, is getting ready for its launch soon, <keyword id="6358064" type="General" weightage="90" keywordseo="isro" source="Orion">ISRO</keyword> said on Monday. The satellite, realised at U R Rao Satellite Centre here, has arrived at the ISRO's spaceport in <keyword id="6355143" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="Sriharikota" source="Orion">Sriharikota</keyword> in Andhra Pradesh, the Bengaluru-headquartered national space agency said in an update on the mission. "Mostly September first week," an ISRO official told PTI when asked about the date of the launch. The spacecraft is expected to be placed in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system, which is about 1.5 million kilometres from the Earth. A satellite placed in the halo orbit around the L1 point has a major advantage of continuously viewing the Sun without any occultation/eclipses, ISRO noted. "This will provide a greater advantage of observing the solar activities and its effect on space weather in real time," it said. The spacecraft carries seven payloads to observe the photosphere, chromosphere and the outermost layers of the Sun (the corona) using electromagnetic and particle and magnetic field detectors. Using the special vantage point L1, four payloads will directly view the Sun and the remaining three payloads would carry out in-situ studies of particles and fields at the L1, thus providing important scientific studies of the propagatory effect of solar dynamics in the interplanetary medium. "The suits of <keyword id="3586950" type="General" weightage="90" keywordseo="Aditya-L1" source="Orion">Aditya L1</keyword> payloads are expected to provide most crucial information to understand the problem of coronal heating, coronal mass ejection, pre-flare and flare activities and their characteristics, dynamics of space weather, propagation of particle and fields etc.," ISRO said. The major science objectives of the Aditya-L1 mission are: study of solar upper atmospheric (chromosphere and corona) dynamics; study of chromospheric and coronal heating, physics of the partially ionised plasma, initiation of the coronal mass ejections, and flares; observe the in-situ particle and plasma environment providing data for the study of particle dynamics from the Sun; physics of solar corona and its heating mechanism; diagnostics of the coronal and coronal loops plasma: temperature, velocity and density; development, dynamics and origin of coronal mass ejections; identify the sequence of processes that occur at multiple layers (chromosphere, base and extended corona) which eventually leads to solar eruptive events; magnetic field topology and magnetic field measurements in the solar corona; drivers for space weather (origin, composition and dynamics of solar wind). The instruments of Aditya-L1 are tuned to observe the solar atmosphere, mainly the chromosphere and corona, while the in-situ instruments will observe the local environment at L1.

ISRO gearing up for mission to study Sun; satellite arrives at Sriharikota for launch

Chennai, <keyword id="6358064" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro" source="Orion">ISRO</keyword> has lined up a series of exploration missions including to Mars, Venus and to the Moon again, apart from the maiden human spaceflight programme, Chairman <keyword id="2618685" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="s-somanath" source="Orion">S Somanath</keyword> said. The space agency also has drawn up plans to launch missions for studying climate and weather conditions of the Earth, the space agency chief said, speaking to reporters on Sunday. Besides, ISRO is also working on regular scientific missions including communication, remote sensing satellites, Somanath, who is also the Secretary of the Department of Space, said here. Speaking about the Gaganyaan programme, he said the maiden TV-D1 test flight is scheduled for October 21. Elaborating about the upcoming missions undertaken by the Bengaluru-headquartered space agency, he said, "We have exploration missions. We have plans to go to Mars, Venus, again sometime to the Moon. We also have programmes to look at the climate and weather of Earth." Stressing that the scientists at ISRO would be focused on taking up regular missions like launching satellites for communications and remote sensing, he said scientific missions are also in the pipeline to look at issues like aeronomy, thermal imaging, and climate change impact assessment. "So many things are there and we are very busy doing all of this," he said. To a query about whether scientists were able to receive any kind of response from the Vikram lander of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, which successfully made a soft-landing on the surface of the Moon on August 23, he said Vikram had done its job very well during the lunar day (equivalent of 14 Earth days) at which time it was programmed to perform its functions. "It is happily sleeping on the Moon. It has done its job very well. Maybe if it wishes to wake up, let it wake up. Until then, we will wait," he said. ISRO made efforts to re-establish communication with rover Pragyan and lander Vikram after they were put into sleep mode in September following the onset of night on the Moon. "No signals have been received from them. Efforts to establish contact will continue," ISRO had said. After the historic landing on August 23, lander Vikram and rover Pragyan performed different tasks on the lunar surface, including detecting the presence of sulphur and recording relative temperature. About ISRO's maiden mission to study the Sun, Somanath said the spacecraft is 'very healthy' and is on a 110-day long journey to the Lagrange point L1 and is expected to reach the intended destination by "middle of January." "It is a long journey. It is almost 110 days of journey and it has covered some distance now. We corrected a little bit of its trajectory, because early correction is important to reach the L1 point. After tracking, we find it is going in the right direction towards the L1 point," he said. Observing that the rocket is on a 'complex travel', Somanath said, "It takes almost another 70-75 days further to reach. By the middle of January, it will reach there. After that, we will make some corrections to make it enter into the Halo orbit at the L1 point." "After that instruments will be switched on and it will start doing the scientific data streaming. Currently, everything is very healthy on Aditya L1," he said. Aditya-L1 was launched on September 2, and it is the first Indian space-based observatory that will study the Sun from a halo orbit around the first <keyword id="19149915" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sun-earth-lagrangian" source="Orion">Sun-Earth Lagrangian</keyword> point (L1), which is located roughly 1.5 million km from the Earth. He met the family members of the eminent plant geneticist known as the driving force behind India's 'Green Revolution', here in the city. The 44.4 metre tall PSLV-C57 rocket with a lift off mass of 321 ton carrying Aditya-L1 -- named after the Sun God in Hindu mythology -- blasted off from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) here at 11.50 a.m. Slowly rising up towards the skies with a thick orange flame at its tail, the rocket gained speed with a sound resembling rolling thunder and went up and up leaving a thick plume while the people assembled at the viewing gallery clapped their hands with pride. Interestingly, this will be one of the longest missions for the rocket as well as for Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). About 63 minutes after the lift off, the rocket will eject Aditya-L1 and the whole mission comes to an end at about 73 minutes with the passivation of the fourth stage. "We have to meet the argument of perigee of the satellite. For that we are following two burn strategies for the fourth stage. After first burn there is a long coasting to achieve the argument of perigee that occurs naturally," Dr S. Unnikrishnan, Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) told IANS about the long flight duration. The flight plan includes switching off the rocket's fourth stage twice, allowing it to coast for about 30 minutes - 26 minutes after the first cut off and about 3 minutes after the second cut off. Initially, Aditya-L1 will be ejected in a low earth orbit (LEO). Then the orbit will be elliptical. As the spacecraft travels towards the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point (L1), it will exit the earth's gravitational Sphere of Influence (SOI). After exit from SOI, the cruise phase will start and subsequently the spacecraft will be injected into a large halo orbit around the L1 -- the point where the gravitational pull of two large bodies - Sun and Earth- will be equal and hence the spacecraft will not gravitate towards any one of the planet. The total travel time from launch to L1 would take about four months for Aditya-L1 and the distance will be about 1.5 million km from the Earth. The distance between the Earth and the Moon is about 3,84,000 km. "A satellite placed in the halo orbit around the L1 point has the major advantage of continuously viewing the Sun without any occultation/eclipses. This will provide a greater advantage of observing the solar activities and its effect on space weather in real time," the ISRO said. The scientific objectives of Aditya-L1 mission includes, study of coronal heating, solar wind acceleration, Coronal Mass Ejections (CME), dynamics of solar atmosphere and temperature anisotropy. In its normal configuration PSLV is a four stage/engine expendable rocket powered by solid and liquid fuels alternatively with six booster motors strapped on to the first stage to give higher thrust during the initial flight moments. The rocket that flew on Saturday was the XL variant - with longer strap-on motors. Interestingly, the XL variant rocket was used for the first time for India's first interplanetary mission - the Chandrayaan-1 or Moon Mission -1. Later the rocket was used for Chandrayaan-2 and Mars Mission/Mars Orbiter Mission. And Saturday's PSLV-XL variant is flying for the 25th time for another interplanetary mission. The Saturday rocketing comes soon after India landing on the Moon on August 23 with its lander safely landing on the lunar soil in a text book style. Later the rover rolled down and started doing experiments. Be that as it may, the Indian space agency said, the Aditya-L1 spacecraft carries seven payloads to observe the photosphere, chromosphere, and the outermost layers of the Sun (the corona) using electromagnetic and particle and magnetic field detectors. ISRO said that the Sun estimated to be 4.5 billion years old is a hot glowing ball of hydrogen and helium gases and is the source of energy for the solar system. "The gravity of the Sun holds all the objects of the solar system together. At the central region of the sun, known as 'core', the temperature can reach as high as 15 million degree Celsius," it said. At this temperature, a process called nuclear fusion takes place in the core which powers the Sun. The visible surface of the sun known as photosphere is relatively cool and has a temperature of about 5,500 degree Celsius, the ISRO said. The Sun is the nearest star and therefore can be studied in much more detail as compared to other stars. By studying the Sun, we can learn much more about stars in our Milky Way as well as about stars in various other galaxies, the ISRO said. The Sun is a very dynamic star that extends much beyond what we see. It shows several eruptive phenomena and releases immense amounts of energy in the solar system. If such explosive solar phenomena is directed towards the earth, it could cause various types of disturbances in the near earth space environment. Various spacecraft and communication systems are prone to such disturbances and therefore an early warning of such events is important for taking corrective measures beforehand. In addition to these, if an astronaut is directly exposed to such explosive phenomena, he/she would be in danger. The various thermal and magnetic phenomena on the sun are of extreme nature. Thus, the Sun also provides a good natural laboratory to understand those phenomena which cannot be directly studied in the lab. The Indians space agency said all the seven payloads carried by Aditya-L1 are indigenously developed by different laboratories in the country in close coordination with it. In its Series C round of funding the company raised $250 million from Softbank Vision Fund II at a valuation of $1.45 billion. A ‘unicorn’ is a private company that is valued at $1 billion or more. The deal more than quadruples Zeta’s valuation since 2019, when Sodexo SA valued the startup at $300 million. With new money in its pocket and a brand new unicorn tag, Zeta plans to use the new funding to expand in the US and European markets. “They [banks] have been slow to innovate and provide poor user experiences,” said Bhavin Turakhia, co-founder of Zeta. According to him, Zeta is poised to capture the markets where banks are moving online and away from the conventional branches. Harley has said that the LiveWire's that have been delivered to customers are safe to ride, but that owners should use faster charging facilities at dealerships until the issue is resolved."LiveWire owners had been able to charge their bikes through standard wall outlets at their homes, a process that takes about 10 hours," The Wall Street Journal reported. "Direct-current charging stations at Harley dealerships can reload the bike's battery in about an hour. The bike can handle about 140 miles of urban riding on a full charge."The motorcycle maker said it does not have a timeline as to when the production will resume.LiveWire has been heralded as Harley-Davidson's salvation, amid declining US sales of its iconic motorcycles. However, LiveWire is priced at such a high level that it currently serves as a halo product for the company. If you buy and sell products via online classified portals such as OLX and Quikr, you need to be careful while dealing with people claiming to be a part of the Indian Army. In a recent <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/mumbai/armyman-scams-mumbai-woman-of-rs-52000-third-case-in-2-months/articleshow/73239901.cms">incident</a>, a resident of Ambernath was duped of ₹52,000 by a fraudster posing as an armyman. The victim, Eman Shafiq Katt, wanted to buy a two-wheeler from the accused, Arbaz Khan. The latter claimed that he was in the army and wanted to sell his scooty as he has been transferred. Once the victim transferred the money into his account, the accused stopped taking her phone calls. Avoid making advance payments If you are buying a product, do not make advance payments and instead, ask the seller to take the payment upon delivery of the product. Meet at a public place Whether you are the seller or the buyer, always insist on meeting at a public place to complete the transaction. A new kind of financial fraud is using the Indian army as decoy

<ul><li>In its one year of existence, <keyword id="7278856" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="82-5-Communications">82.5 Communications</keyword> has pitched to 11 clients and bagged nine in its kitty. </li><li>From bringing a team together with different backgrounds to immersing themselves in the wide spectrum of Indian culture, the founders of 82.5 Communications walk us through their personal journeys on the agency's first anniversary. </li><li> <keyword id="255416" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sumanto-Chattopadhyay">Sumanto Chattopadhyay</keyword>, Chairman &amp; CCO and <keyword id="137409" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kapil-Arora">Kapil Arora</keyword>, Co-chairman &amp; CEO shared with us the reason behind pivoting from outsourcing non-WPP partners, the decision to adopt a new ‘elbows-in-approach’ of getting to know consumers, and roadmap ahead. </li></ul><keyword id="168456" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="WPP">WPP</keyword>'s one-year-old 82.5 Communications, an Ogilvy group agency, started out with an open-source model. The initial plan was to outsource a few services from different partners, as per client’s needs. Mid-way in its journey, the founders realised the pitfalls of out-sourcing. The agency had kept brand custodianship, strategy and content expertise in-house, while working with partners who offered allied services in media, social, PR, retail and activation. However, the agency is pivoting from its open-source model by closing it to the circle of partners within WPP. Explaining why the agency decided to take a detour from its original model, Kapil Arora, Co-chairman &amp; CEO, 82.5 Communications said, “Bringing many cultures of people together, who have a disparate opinion from one another, was very difficult. And while we remained the custodian, we didn't necessarily have control on the final output of what the others were doing. So we pivoted around six months ago, we said open platform still makes sense. We can't build everything ourselves. But let's move that open-platform to within WPP.” He adds, “So now our ecosystem that we've been building over the last four to six months and successfully so -- as a couple of the wins and businesses that we work on -- is because we work with like-minded partners within WPP. We have people who are culturally amenable to us and the way we approach brands as well.” While the agency changed its route six months ago, Arora said that more details will be shared with the media after they build their new ecosystem completely. After on-boarding Rishabha Nayyar as National Planning Lead, the agency will also follow an ‘elbows-in approach to brands.’ It will concentrate on getting to know the consumers under the skin. The conversations with the consumers and clients will be in-depth and the focus will be to maintain the cultural nuances in its final output. Ingenious Ideas In a year of its existence, WPP’s 82.5 Communications has truly carved out a niche for itself by promising ingenious Indian ideas, so much so that they reinvented the 4 P’s of marketing mix and gave it a ‘desi twist’ by calling it SEV, which stands for Solve consumer’s problem, Engage your consumer, Value their money. The agency has built a profile of India-first businesses that resonates with its positioning. Its clientele includes ITC, Bisleri, Himalaya Herbals, Wipro, Cera, Lava, Havells, Luminous, ACC Cement, Nestle MILO, Haldirams, RSPL group, Campus Shoes and <keyword id="210083" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pearson-Education">Pearson Education</keyword>, to name a few. “We had said we are an India-first agency talking to this entire opportunity of ‘India first’. Now if you look at our profile of the clients, not one year down the line, 90% of our clients are India-first. As large as the Himalayas and the ITCs of the world and as small as a brand called Jeeru, which sells in Bombay and Gujarat,” shares Arora, who is proud and content with the agency’s growth. Talking about the variety of ads they worked on and how they add an Indian twist to it, Arora said, “Our idea of India is not just one. We tip into cultural nuances, we tipped into Ayurveda, which is about our heritage, we tip into current issues, which is about fake forwards. So we're looking at a spectrum of what India stands for today; and not just one stereotype, at least that is our endeavour.” <keyword id="6375200" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PIYUSH-PANDEY">Piyush Pandey</keyword>, Chairman of <keyword id="531122" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ogilvy-India">Ogilvy India</keyword> and CCO - Worldwide, feels that 82.5 Communications has opened up new opportunities for the entire network. He said, “Sometimes the clients of smaller scale think that Ogilvy is too big for me without even talking to us. 82.5 Communications has been able to reach out to those clients, one-on-one and together.” On working under Ogilvy’s halo, Sumanto Chattopadhyay, Chairman &amp; CCO, said, “I always believe that as a human being, your strength is also your weakness. When I was asked to do this, people said that I don’t need to worry because I have Ogilvy behind me, which is a boon but at the same time, people say ‘you are an Ogilvy number two’. And that is definitely not the space that we wanted to be in. We wanted to be an agency of our own name and own right.” Amongst its four branches dwelling in Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata, Chattopadhyay says that Delhi has been the fastest-growing branch, as it grew by 70% in the last two months. Language-first approach 82.5 Communications will now focus on building language capability which is beyond translation or transliteration. “We have already built in-house language thinking expertise beyond Hindi and English, starting with Bengali, Marathi and Tamil. This repertoire will continue to increase through a mix of in-house talent and a circle of friends from the local film and theatre circuits. These are not employees but friends of the agency who tap into the voices of culture today. The Nestle Milo example was a first in that direction,” shares Arora. Arora concluded the conversation by highlighting the advantages of being a small agency. He said, “I think we are and will continue to be a work-in-progress agency. I think our strength is to be able to pivot and change and give you new models. Again and again and again, with your small scale, that's what allows you to do that as long as we keep the fundamentals and our foundation strong.”
