<ul><li><strong>Dyson recently launched its most advanced vacuum cleaner V15 Detect, in India.</strong></li><li><strong>It is priced at ₹62,900, which makes it an expensive piece of tech, but it's also one of a kind.</strong></li><li><strong>It's a good investment, but you must be sure of your cleaning requirement as it has some caveats. Is it for you? Read the full review to find out.</strong></li></ul>Dyson has launched another high-tech and high-priced vacuum cleaner in India. The latest machine is called <keyword id="14550029" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dyson-v15" source="Orion">Dyson V15</keyword> Detect and is touted as the most powerful and intelligent cordless vacuum cleaner to date; it better be as it's priced at a whopping ₹62,900, which makes it one of the most expensive cordless vacuum cleaners in the country. <br /><br />The vacuum cleaner is the most popular product from the company for its visually distinctive design, and it's been among the favorites of many ever since it debuted in India. Having used the previous models of the machine, I can say the functionality is also as good as the design. Although, I am not sure of its durability in Indian homes as I've never used them for more than a month or two.<br />          <div type="image" title="Dyson V15 1" msid="93143385" hostid="261" sizebytes="277760" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The Dyson V15 Detect still looks the same, but doesn&amp;#39;t feel old.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The V15 Detect has been with me for around a month, and so far, it's been a great experience using it. It is said to have 1.5 times more suction and 54% more bin capacity than the Dyson V12 Detect Slim. This means the suction is more powerful and can now store more debris in the bin.<br /><br /><strong>Why is the price so high?</strong> <br /><br />The price is not surprising for those aware of Dyson's products. As per the company, they usually carry a premium price tag for their design, service, and innovative technology. In addition, it has some great-sounding tech built inside, like a laser on the cleaning head to highlight microscopic dust particles, a sensor to track evidence of cleaning by gauging particle data, self-adjusting suction intensity, and a digital motor apart. All this in a good-looking cordless vacuum experience without compromising suction power.<br /><br />So I decided to test all of these features and see whether it does what it promises, and if yes, is it worth the premium?<br /><br /><strong>Design and build: Same futuristic laser blaster design<br />          <div type="image" title="Dyson V15 2" msid="93143451" hostid="261" sizebytes="190122" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The bin on the V15 Detect is larger than its predecessor.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div></strong>As I mentioned, the design is similar to the V11 Absolute Pro, with a slightly larger 0.75-liter bin and handheld unit weighing 3.1kg. Unfortunately, the weight takes away the ease of use; although I didn't have an issue, someone like my 55-year-old mother would not be able to run it for a long stretch.<br />          <div type="image" title="Dyson V15 Detect" height="900" width="1200" msid="93143692" hostid="261" sizebytes="2066023"></div>The increased weight is also because it has got some significant upgrades on the inside over its predecessor. The most prominent one is the 230W motor which is more powerful than the V11. Further, an acoustic piezo sensor tells the amount and type of dust particles it picks on an LCD and the remaining battery run time. I couldn't verify the particle data, but the battery stats are reliable so far. The particle stats essentially tell how dirty the floor is before and after cleaning.<br />          <div type="image" title="Dyson V15" msid="93143588" hostid="261" sizebytes="1669657" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The click and attach mechanism for attachments is still the same as seen on V11 range.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The attachment mechanism remains the same. It has a simple click of a button to detach and insert to attach extensions and attachments. I really like this element of the Dyson design. Removing or adding parts to their products is a very satisfying experience and can quickly be done by anyone as it doesn't ask for added power or precision. That said, I faced some issues while opening the bin flap of its predecessor, which seems to be fixed on this one and is no longer flimsy. Although, it's still the exact push-to-eject mechanism as before.<br />          <div type="image" title="Dyson V15 5" msid="93143776" hostid="261" sizebytes="1530850" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The dust sticks to the bin&amp;#39;s surface, which is why regular cleaning is a must.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The quality of the material is consistent across the vacuum and its attachments. It also has a detachable battery. That means you can invest in a spare battery and double the output. <br /><br />I miss a design feature on this machine: a lock switch for the power trigger. Right now, I must keep one finger on the button while using it. While not having a lock may avoid accidents, it's also tiring for some. So much so that I felt the need for it in just 15 minutes of cleaning. That's also because it's heavy. I'll have no discomfort putting one finger busy for long if this was a lighter machine.<br /><br /><strong>Attachments: Made to reach anywhere but not to scratch hard stains<br />          </strong>Unboxing Dyson's products is an inviting process, and repackaging them is a nightmare. The first is the Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head with a soft brush bar meant to clean hard floors without damaging them. Note that this is the only one with the green laser and the one I used the most at my home, where there's a mix of marble and tile flooring. The laser projects a green beam in front of the cleaning head, exposing the microscopic dust particles on the floor. <br /><br />This particular feature is an addition to those obsessed with cleaning. I had a similar individual at my home, and trust me, they did not let the vacuum cleaner rest unless it died. Despite getting the floor cleaned with conventional <em>'jhadu and pochha' (broom and mop) </em>in the afternoon, this laser showed a floor full of fine dust after a few hours. What's better is that you can clean floors even in the dark. Imagine someone with a habit of compulsive cleaning having this at home - they're going to have one arm more muscular than the other. Jokes aside, this feature not just wants you to clean more but also shows how dirty the floors are even when not visible to the naked eye.<br /><div type="image" title="Dyson V15 6" msid="93144434" hostid="261" sizebytes="1757057" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The fluffy laser cleaner head is very effective on hard floor.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The other cleaning head is the High-Torque, which is noisier and more powerful against bigger particles, hair, and rigid surfaces. It also has a layer of polycarbonate teeth which also scratches and collects soiled dust. A miniature version of this cleaning head, the Hair Screw Tool, is designed for smaller tasks that the High-Torque can't reach. But I noticed a few scratches on its bottom after cleaning my wooden cupboard, which is a letdown.<br /><div type="image" title="Dyson V15 7" msid="93144459" hostid="261" sizebytes="1298159" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;In a weird incident, the Hair Screw Tool got scratched after I used it on wood.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>Both the cleaning heads are movable, so you don't have to lift and change the cleaning path. Instead, you can tilt it to either side to turn the head in different directions. But it can't mop, and that's a need in typical Indian households. It also fails to remove dry stains on the floor. So be clear that this tool can remove dust from every corner of your house but not wipe the floor.<br /><br /><strong>Maintenance: Easy to keep clean and working<br /></strong><br />The Dyson V15 Detect doesn't really need a lot of maintenance, but there are a few things you need to clean periodically. <br /><br /><strong>Dirt compartment-</strong> It is easy to clean; you just have to empty it and then wash it once in a while so that it doesn't collect debris in the corners. You might need to use a brush or a cloth to clean it.<br /><strong>Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head roll-</strong> It comes with a soft brush roll made of a material that will need regular cold water. The laser sensor will also need cleaning if you use it regularly.<br /><strong>High Torque brush roll- </strong>You can detach the brush rolls by removing the side cover using a coin. Then slide out the brush roll to clear debris or hair without damaging the bristles.<br /><strong>HEPA filter- </strong> The HEPA filter is found on the top of the handheld unit, right below the LCD. It can be removed by twisting the purple head anti-clockwise. Like the fluffy brush roll, this must be washed under cold water when the machine indicates it. Make sure to put it back after drying it, and it's fixed properly.<br /><br /><strong>Performance: It sucks so well that it blows away every other cordless alternative</strong><br /><br />This is where the Dyson V15 Detect shuts down the alternates and wins even at a higher price. After using it, I can confidently say that its only competition in terms of performance is a Dyson vacuum cleaner. The Indian market is still short of its alternatives; an advantage Dyson is leveraging.<br /><br />I shifted to a new house in the first week of July, and guess who did most of the cleaning? This machine. On Sunday, Afghanistan President <keyword id="480125" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ashraf-Ghani">Ashraf Ghani</keyword> left the country and the Taliban successfully <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/afghanistan-president-ghani-flees-taliban-enters-kabul-2021-8">took over Kabul, the nation's capital</a>.</p><p>Facebook and Twitter have labeled many of the videos as "partly false information" or "presented out of context," respectively.</p><p>One major misleading video to spread claimed to show <a href="https://www.insider.com/viral-video-afghanistan-president-ashraf-ghani-airplane-fake-2021-8">Ghani</a> fleeing the Taliban when it took control of Kabul over the weekend. But in truth, the footage showed Ghani boarding a plane to attend a conference in Uzbekistan in July, before the Taliban's takeover. According to India Today, the video is at least a year old and was digitally edited. </p><h2>Multiple manipulated images purporting to show CNN broadcasts went viral on social media</h2><p>Doctored or misleading images related to CNN journalists and broadcasts continue to appear on social media.</p><p>A doctored picture spread on Sunday purporting to show a CNN broadcast in Kabul with a chyron reading, "Violent but mostly peaceful transfer of power," purportedly referring to the Taliban taking over Afghanistan. She also said that she usually wore a headscarf on Kabul streets, but not with her hair fully covered and an abaya, "so there is a difference but not quite this stark," she wrote.</p><p>Another doctored image showing a CNN broadcast with the chyron, "Taliban fighters responsibly wearing masks," circulated on Instagram on Sunday, mainly boosted by one user, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CSneUJUtlxu/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=961c7c6e-a953-4c32-bc62-1973529c063f063f">@vitorbelfort</a>, who has over 1.2 million followers.</p><p>The fake image was made by the <a href="https://archive.is/Qfs3i">Babylon Bee</a>, a right-wing satire publication, according to <a href="https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/aug/17/viral-image/no-cnn-didnt-praise-taliban-wearing-masks/">PolitiFact</a>.</p><h2>Twitter accounts purporting to be official organizations spread misinformation</h2><p>According to <a href="https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/aug/17/viral-image/fake-news-accounts-spread-false-information-about-/">PolitiFact</a>, several unverified Twitter channels purporting to be official organizations - with names like "BBC Afghanistan" and "CNN Afghanistan" - were circulating the false information that an American CNN journalist named "Bernie Gores" had been captured and executed by the Taliban on Monday. </p><p>As the entertainment website <a href="https://meaww.com/bernie-gores-who-fake-news-accounts-twitter-claim-cnn-journalist-executed-taliban-afghanistan">MEAWW first reported</a>, searching the CNN website for "Bernie Gores" bylines will return no results.</p><p>Additionally, a reverse image search of the "Bernie Gores" picture used in the tweets will pull up the 35-year-old Jordie Jordan, a YouTube gaming personality known for playing "Call of Duty." Jordan did not respond to a request for comment.</p><p>Twitter, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment about these accounts, appears to have suspended the accounts. Because [Duff is] <a href="https://www.insider.com/baking-hacks-favorite-recipes-from-duff-goldman-2020-8">such a master cake decorator</a> with Charm City Cakes, just to listen to him is a masterclass in and of itself and I forget that I am not the viewer," Hall said. " ... I just wish I had my phone on record every time he talks."</p><h2>Some judges enjoy being able to positively impact how viewers approach food</h2><p>Phillips said one of the best parts of being a judge is being able to inspire viewers to expand their culinary skills and try new things. </p><p>She said that being exposed to new and different styles of cooking on television can help viewers "want to be more curious with their palate." </p><p>"As many times as I say, 'I don't love mushrooms, but this is exceptional.' I would hope that it would make people interested in trying things," Phillips said.</p><p>"Understanding that even if you think you don't like something, you may have just had something that was improperly cooked," she added. "Like asparagus is super yucky when you overcook it. It's just torture. It tastes like sulfur and punishment all in one. But if it's done well it's beautiful."</p><div type="image" title="Top Chef" height="466" width="709" msid="78521130" hostid="261"></div><h2>Being a judge can also come with some glamorous perks </h2><p>Phillips also told Insider that much of the judging experience is as fabulous as viewers would expect.</p><p>She said that judges are professionally styled and a crew ensures their skin is never shiny and their hair is never out of place. </p><p>"You go into hair and makeup and you look like a hot mess but you leave looking like the shiniest version of yourself," Phillips told Insider. "Somebody steams all of your clothes and picks you out things that make you look the most flattering and then you go and sit and eat people's food."</p><p>"Anybody who says there are parts of it that aren't glamorous are totally lying," she said. "It's the easiest job I've ever had."</p><h2>On the other hand, multiple judges told Insider that the hardest part of the job is how much they're expected to eat</h2><p>Even if <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-and-worst-dishes-cooking-show-judges-had-to-eat">the dishes are delicious</a>, eating a lot of them in one day isn't ideal. </p><p>Lofaso told Insider that judges on cooking-competition shows <a href="https://www.insider.com/behind-the-scenes-secrets-about-cooking-competitions">can taste upwards of 12 to 15 different dishes a day</a>, taking three to four bites of each. The restaurateur said this can be especially difficult when filming an entire season. </p><p>"It's always fun the first day when you're filming the first episode of a brand new season," Lofaso told Insider. "When you've been away on hiatus you're like, 'Woo I'm back!' And then by day four you're like, 'OK my pancreas is going to explode.' It's very taxing on your digestive system, that's all I can say."</p><p>Cora told Insider that eating so many combinations of flavors can be difficult, too. </p><p>"The stomachache (and beyond) can be very unglamorous," Cora told Insider. "After tasting so many different flavors — fatty foods, salt, sugar, acid ... it can be pretty gnarly."</p><div type="image" title="Halloween Baking Championship" height="1511" width="2015" msid="78521131" hostid="261"></div><h2>Some chefs said that judging can impact their health and weight</h2><p>"Chopped" judge and restaurateur Chris Santos, explained that weight gain is a common experience for beginner judges, but that he's learned to "eat just enough to properly judge the dish without finishing the plate." </p><p>In some cases, judges alter their daily routines when they're filming. </p><p>Goldman, a regular judge on "Holiday Baking Championship," told Insider that he "drinks green juice and does two hours of cardio every day while filming" to combat the amount of carbohydrates and sugar he consumes on set.</p><h2>Multiple judges said that letting down hopeful chefs is the worst part of their job</h2><p>Most of the judges Insider spoke with said that they know how heartbroken contestants can be when they don't win, so it makes letting them down extremely difficult. </p><p>Phillips, who previously competed on and won "The Next Food Network Star," told Insider that it's never easy disappointing people. </p><p>"If you really open yourself up to the competitors and connect with them and their stories like why they're there, what has gotten them to that point, and you know their hopes are resting on winning and they lose … it's horrible," she said. "It's the worst. It doesn't feel good for anybody in the room."</p><p>Chef Aarón Sánchez, longtime partner of the <a href="http://www.caciqueinc.com/">Cacique</a> brand and a judge on shows like "MasterChef Junior" and "Chopped," agreed. </p><p>"I really hate when I have to tell someone that they've fallen short," he told Insider. "It's always a little heartbreaking, especially with the kids."</p><div type="image" title="Chopped" height="1080" width="1440" msid="78521132" hostid="261"></div><h2>For some judges, the heavy responsibility of the job is the most difficult factor to wrestle with</h2><p>Chef Maneet Chauhan, "Chopped" judge and author of "<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Chaat-Recipes-Kitchens-Markets-Railways/dp/1984823884">Chaat: The Best Recipes from the Kitchens, Markets, and Railways of India</a>," told Insider that she wishes viewers knew just how hard judging can be.</p><p>A win can greatly impact the career of a hopeful chef, she explained, and no matter how much the judges like a particular contestant, they have to choose the best dish.</p><p>"Judging is difficult! It's a very big responsibility," Chauhan said. "We make our decision on the final dish, not the people, which is hard to do."</p><h2>As a cooking-competition show judge, you must be prepared for extremely long filming days</h2><p>Cooking-competition shows may only be 30 minutes or an hour long, but the filming process <a href="https://www.insider.com/chopped-facts-secrets-2018-6">can take the majority of a day to complete.</a></p><p>Multiple chefs told Insider that filming an episode of these competition shows can take 10 to 14 hours. </p><p>Richard Blais, a chef known for his time on "Top Chef" and "Guy's Grocery Games," explained that some clips even get cut down from an hour to just a few seconds. </p><p>"There's a lot of sitting around," he said. Now, he's an internet sensation with an international online following of 20 million subscribers across four platforms, and he tells Business Insider he's making over six figures.</p><p>Julius Dein is the impresario of the eponymous Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, and Facebook accounts, where he performs comedic pranks and magic tricks to crowds of incredulous onlookers. His meteoric rise to internet stardom is a byproduct of what he describes as his two obsessions: magic, and social media.&#xa0;</p><p>This is Dein's most popular YouTube video, which has over three million views:</p><p>And people can't seem to get enough of him:</p><p>On a recent trip to India, Dein scheduled a meetup in a public square in Mumbai. Dein said that the turnout shocked even him. Here's what happened:</p><p>While Dein's videos speak to a global audience, he said the majority of his subscribers are from the US and Mexico, and they're huge supporters of Dein's online antics.</p><p>The British 23-year-old said he was attracted to magic at a young age&#xa0;<span style="font-weight: 400;">for the amazed reactions his tricks elicited. </span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"It was like a drug," Dein told Business Insider, "To get those freak out, screaming reactions. "It's&#xa0;actually quite niche, and it's difficult to make it relatable. People say I'm like the new wave of magic, not like that old-school David Blaine stuff."</p><p>Dein said older magicians who aren't yet wise to social media will soon be replaced by a new order of Instagram elites. He asked me to consider the Instagram followings of some of the world's most famous magicians to that of his two million: David Blaine has 463,000, Penn and Teller have under 50,000, and even David Copperfield, <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/hayleycuccinello/2016/10/26/worlds-highest-paid-magicians-2016-david-copperfield-conjures-64-million-tops-list/#33113cf94150">the highest-paid magician today,</a>&#xa0;boasts a paltry online following of under 100,000. (It's a similar story on Facebook, where Dein's 13+ million followers eclipse those of the aforementioned magicians.)</p><p>Isn't this just a generational thing? I asked Dein. Established magicians might perform on live TV shows or in schmaltzy Vegas showrooms, but that doesn't mean the up-and-coming Instastars of today are going to replace them altogether.</p><p>Dein disagrees. "It's not even that Blaine is from a different generation," he said. "He was big, like, seven years ago, whereas I'm using social, which is the new big thing. "You know what a good headline would be?" he said.
