Bangalore Airport cargo witnessed a substantial increase in rose shipments in the run-up to <keyword id="6426726" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="valentine" source="Orion">Valentine</keyword>'s Day this year. The season of roses at BLR Airport brought cheer once again with a 14 per cent increase in rose shipments processed compared to last year. The ODI World Cup 2023 will be played in India from October 5 to November 19, the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai are all set to host the semi-finals of the showpiece event. COVID-19: Several flights to and from Guwahati cancelled

<keyword id="2573" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Air-India">Air India</keyword> passengers were left in a lurch due to a technical glitch in the system. On Saturday, more number of passengers flying from Kolkata to Guwahati reported at the airport. Air India booked flights for 194 passengers whereas the capacity of the Air India flight AI 731 was only for 144. This glitch left Air India staff high and dry as passengers were fuming due to the error in the system. "It was an unprecedented situation. We do have 2-3% overbookings but on Saturday, it was 31% on the <keyword id="280009" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kolkata-Guwahati">Kolkata-Guwahati</keyword> flight. The passengers were justifiably furious and we didn't have any explanation to offer. An error seems to have occurred in the reservation system. Instead of displaying that the flight was full once 144 tickets had been sold, it continued to accept reservations. Thus, 194 passengers turned up for the flight," an AI official told TOI. The passengers were stranded as no aircraft could be re-deployed to Kolkata at such short notice. Air India then accommodated passengers in a hotel and made flight arrangements for the following day. "The prospect of an error like this creeping into an international flight is frightening. The airline can get sued by passengers. We are trying to identify the cause and rectify it at the earliest. Officials at the headquarters in Delhi have already been alerted and are investigating the case," another official told TOI.

Air India makes bookings for 194 passengers for a flight with144 seats

The participating institutions include four IITs — IIT Pune, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Ropar and IIT Guwahati — and IISER Pune, Odisha and Kolkata campuses. This comes as the Higher Education Department of J&amp;K signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to boost employability in the region. The unemployment rate in Jammu &amp; Kashmir is significantly higher after the blockade and internet shutdown since August. IITs and IISERs provide internships to 500 science students from Jammu & Kashmir

 FIS Global Business Solutions, a private security company, had deposited ₹2.948 million in the ATM on 19 May. And, the machine ran out of service just the very next day and a complaint was lodged. It took technicians almost a month to check on the ATM and according to the Tinsukia Superintendent of Police, <a href="http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/other-states/destroyed-currency-notes-dead-rodents-found-inside-assam-atm/article24199393.ece">Mugdhajyoti Mahanta</a>, the technicians arrived from Kolkata on 11 June. on opening up the machine, they found a dead rodent on a pile of shredded notes of mostly ₹500 and ₹2000 denominations. According to the technicians, the mice probably entered the ATM through a hole made for the wires. They managed to salvage ₹1.7 million from the machine.

Sweden is showing innovations by Swedish companies in line with ‘Make in India’ initiative

<keyword id="2402322" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="British-lender">British lender</keyword> <keyword id="6358584" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="HSBC">HSBC</keyword> today announced a consolidation exercise under which it will almost halve its branches in the country to 26 as customers shift to digital alternatives for their banking transactions. 
 
The exercise will also lead to over 300 jobs being affected, which is less than one per cent of its total workforce of over 33,000 people in the country, and "redeployment opportunities will be accorded to the affected employees", the bank said. 
 
"A key priority is the fair treatment of our staff and we will do everything we can to assist affected employees during this business transition. Redeployment opportunities will be accorded to the affected employees," it said in a statement. 
 
The total number of branches will be coming down to 26 in 14 cities from 50 in 29 cities earlier, with a bulk of the impact in smaller centres. 
 
It added that the impacted branches account for only 10 per cent of the customer base of the customer base in the country. 
 
The reduction in branches is due to customers' adoption of digital solutions , it said. 
 
"This change reflects changes in customer behaviour, who are increasingly using digital channels for their banking," the bank said. 
 
"India is a priority market for HSBC and we will continue to invest to achieve sustainable growth by supporting the needs of our customers," HSBC India's chief executive Stuart Milne said. 
 
The consolidation exercise is the result of a strategic review of retail and wealth management vertical and will be carried out in the coming months in a phased manner, said HSBC, which has been present in India since 1853. 
 
The priority is to ensure "changes are implemented in a manner which will minimise disruption to its customers and its staff", the statement said. 
 
The bank said India was the fourth biggest contributor to the group with a pre-tax profit of USD 606 million in 2015 and the retail business is "core" to its India franchise. 
 
Even as the physical locations are reduced, the bank will continue to invest in the retail operations, it said, adding that soon it will be coming out with an "expanded proposition" for top-tier clients. 
 
A list of the impacted branches shared by the bank illustrated that it is withdrawing from smaller cities and towns but will continue to keep its presence in the metros and big cities.

It is closing branches in Guwahati, Indore, Jodhpur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Thane, Mysore, Nagpur, Nashik, Patna, <keyword id="45327" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Raipur">Raipur</keyword>, Surat, Trivandrum, Vadodara and Visakapatnam, while bigger cities like <keyword id="6354925" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kolkata">Kolkata</keyword> (5 branches), Chennai (1), Delhi (2) and Pune (1) will also be impacted. 
 The bank will continue to have its presence in Ahmedabad, <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> (2 branches), Chennai, Coimbatore, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai (9), New Delhi (3), Noida and Pune, it said. 
 
The announcement comes at a time when the Reserve Bank has asked foreign lenders to turn into wholly-owned subsidiaries (WOS) rather than operate as branches of foreign entities.

 Rainfall was 76% more than normal in the past 24 hours, accelerating from an excess of 46% on Saturday and 22% on Friday. The turnaround has been dramatic in the oil seed growing regions of central India, where rainfall since June 1 was 31% in deficit on June 10, but is now 12% higher than normal. The region received three times the normal rain in the past day. The monsoon has now covered entire Maharashtra, and extends up to Surat, <keyword id="45327" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Raipur">Raipur</keyword> and Darjeeling. 
 
The good news is that it is poised to extend to more areas in a few days, the India Meteorological Department said in its latest forecast on Sunday. 
 "Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of north Arabian Sea, Gujarat state, <keyword id="6355554" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Madhya-Pradesh">Madhya Pradesh</keyword>, Chhattisgarh and Odisha; remaining parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, northwest Bay of Bengal and some parts of <keyword id="6360371" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jharkhand">Jharkhand</keyword> and <keyword id="30033" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bihar">Bihar</keyword> during next three days," it said. 
 The weather office expects the rainfall to continue in the days ahead. Rainfall is expected in many cities including Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, Indore, <keyword id="6355556" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="bhopal">Bhopal</keyword>, <keyword id="6354925" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kolkata">Kolkata</keyword>, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Surat, Lucknow, Kanpur, Guwahati, Tezpur and Shillong. The revival of rainfall will boost crop planting, which was 9% below last year's level on Friday. Officials told the ET that this was likely to change soon. 
 
"When rainfall comes after a dry phase, farmers quickly plant crops and make up for the lost time. The recent increase in rainfall is very favourable," an agriculture ministry official told the financial daily. So far farmers have planted rice on a bigger area than last year, but pulses, coarse cereals and cotton sowing has declined, compared to last year.

 2)Tremors were felt in Delhi, nearly 1,100 kms away, and states including Rajasthan, Bengal and Bihar. 5)The United States Geological Survey said the quake struck 81 kilometres northwest of Kathmandu, with walls crumbling and families racing outside of their homes.

8)A historic tower built in the 19th century collapsed in Kathmandu following a severe earthquake on Saturday morning.
