<keyword id="71274" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="dera-sacha-sauda" source="Orion">Dera Sacha Sauda</keyword> chief <keyword id="6367810" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="gurmeet-ram-rahim-singh" source="Orion">Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh</keyword>, who is serving a prison sentence in <keyword id="41646" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="haryana" source="Orion">Haryana</keyword>'s Sunaria jail, has been granted parole for 40 days, official sources said on Friday.<br /><br />The move comes just ahead of the Adampur by-poll, which is scheduled to be held on November 3.<br /><br />The <keyword id="44141" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="dera" source="Orion">Dera</keyword> chief had earlier come out of prison on month-long parole in June.<br /><br />Prior to that, he was granted three weeks' furlough in February.<br /><br />The sect chief is serving a 20-year jail term for raping two women disciples at his ashram in Sirsa, where the Dera is headquartered. <br /><br />He was convicted by a special <keyword id="6354572" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="cbi" source="Orion">CBI</keyword> court in Panchkula in August 2017.<br /><br />He was last year also convicted along with four others for hatching a conspiracy to kill Ranjit Singh, a Dera manager, in 2002. Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh granted 40-day parole

In less than five months of granting a 21-day furlough, self-styled jailed godman and <keyword id="71274" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dera-sacha-sauda" source="Orion">Dera Sacha Sauda</keyword> chief Gurmeet <keyword id="6367811" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ram-rahim" source="Orion">Ram Rahim</keyword> Singh was on Friday granted <keyword id="43553" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="parole" source="Orion">parole</keyword> for a month by the BJP-led Haryana government.<br /><br />He is currently serving a life term for the murder of his manager in 2002 and was also convicted for the rape of two women in 2017.<br /><br />He's lodged in Haryana's Sunaria jail since 2017 after being convicted in the rape and murder cases. He has a large number of followers in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.<br /><br />Earlier, he was released from the jail four times for various reasons, including his plea to meet the ailing mother. The parole has been granted for the first time since his conviction.<br /><br />Justifying the decision, an official said Ram Rahim has been granted parole as per the jail manual.<br /><br />He will stay in Barnawa in Bagpath, the first ashram established in Uttar Pradesh in 1980, during parole.<br /><br />According to an official, the dera chief was provided Z-plus security cover during his parole owing to the "high threat perception" to his life from "pro-Khalistan" groups.<br /><br />Earlier just ahead of the Punjab polls, Ram Rahim, who is lodged at the high-security Sunaria jail in Rohtak, 250 kms from state capital Chandigarh, was granted furlough on February 7 to meet his family in Gurugram.<br /><br />In June 2019, Ram Rahim Singh had withdrawn his parole plea after the state BJP government was cornered by opposition parties for favouring the self-styled godman, who sought parole for 42 days to tend to his agricultural fields at his sect's headquarters in Sirsa town.<br /><br />Also, the high court had rejected his parole plea for attending the wedding ceremony of his foster daughter.<br /><br />Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years in jail in August 2017 for raping two women.<br /><br />A special CBI court in Panchkula this January 2019 also sentenced Ram Rahim and three others to life imprisonment for the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati over 16 years ago.<br /><br />His conviction on August 25, 2017, had led to violence in Panchkula and Sirsa, leaving 41 people dead and over 260 injured.<br /><br />Ram Rahim was patronised by political leaders and parties in Punjab and Haryana for nearly two decades due to his ability to influence the votes of his followers.<br /><br /><strong>SEE ALSO:<br /></strong><a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/tough-times-will-make-startups-go-for-hero-teams-slash-ad-budgets-and-focus-on-profits/articleshow/92270583.cms">Tough times will make startups go for ‘hero teams’, slash ad budgets and focus on profits</a><br /><a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india/news/army-agnipath-scheme-protest-news-coming-from-various-parts-of-the-country-on-third-day/articleshow/92270575.cms">Agnipath scheme protest: Protesters prevented from occupying rail tracks in UP's Ballia</a><br />

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim Singh gets one month parole

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Business Insider</span></p><p class="caption">Left to right: killer Ted Bundy, smuggler Barry Seal, and neo-Nazi Richard Spencer.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>A new app from augmented reality startup Blippar lets you superimpose your face onto celebrities like Mariah Carey and Mark Wahlberg - but also inadvertently suggests serial killers, terrorists, and even the artwork of Adolf Hitler.</p><p>FaceJam is marketed as a lighthearted way to put your face on a celebrity's, and as a way for Blippar to show off its artificial intelligence software.</p><p>When you open the app on the iPhone, FaceJam displays images of celebrities, paintings, and even currencies across different tabs. You take a selfie and pick a celebrity on which to superimpose your face, with the app then prompting you to share the final image on your social networks.</p><p>When Business Insider tested FaceJam, we found murderers such as Ted Bundy, Myra Hindley, Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Kaczynski, Edmund Kemper, and "American Ripper" H.H Holmes showing up unprompted on the app's gallery of celebrities, alongside Marilyn Monroe, Robert Downey Jr., and other Hollywood stars.</p><p>Finding the murderers didn't require any proactive search, and they were simply displayed openly inside the app.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Business Insider</span></p><p class="caption">Left to right: serial killer Ted Kaczynski, serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, and a reporter's face superimposed onto Dahmer.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>FaceJam also featured Kim Jong Un, Osama bin Laden, President Kennedy's assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, Saddam Hussein, Bashar al-Assad, neo-Nazi Richard Spencer, and convicted rapist Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.</p><p>There was also an image of Otto Warmbier, the US student who died after a period of captivity in North Korea, the drug smuggler Barry Seal, and the musician XXXTentacion, who was arrested recently for alleged domestic violence.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>James Cook/Business Insider</span></p><p class="caption">Left to right: Osama bin Laden in FaceJam's gallery, a reporter's face superimposed onto Saddam Hussein.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>And there are controversial figures such as OJ Simpson, contrarian alt-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos, Donald Trump's campaign manager Steve Bannon, and Confederate general Robert E. Blippar's celebrity face-mashing app is filled with pictures of killers, terrorists, and dictators

<br /> <keyword id="183329" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Leela-Samson">Leela Samson</keyword>, the danseuse of Bharatnatyam, who until now served as the chief of Censor Board has resigned from her post, quoting "interference, coercion and corruption of panel members and officers" as the reasons.<br />
<br /> Another person to put her papers down is <keyword id="205953" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ira-Bhaskar">Ira Bhaskar</keyword>, who served as a board member of Central Board of Film Certification (<keyword id="238857" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="CBFC">CBFC</keyword>), the censorship and classification body run by the Union Information &amp; Broadcasting Ministry.<br />

Although Ms. Samson's term for three years had officially ended in April 2014, she was serving the post until further allotment of the post by the newly framed government. Likewise, all the board members including Ms. Bhaskar were continuing till further notice.<br />

As per reports, Ms Bhaskar had discussed resignation earlier as well, but held on because of no proper order in the censor board. She also went on to say that in the past one year, there was no official meeting by the members of the board despite the rule of a quarterly meeting by all members.<br />
<br />
The whole ruckus has been amidst the controversy over the denial of release of the movie <em>MSG – The Messenger of God</em>, which features Dera Saccha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the lead role. The movie was granted approval overnight by Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT), which is the body one approaches after being denied approval for release by CBFC.<br />
<br />
With two veterans putting their papers down, the road ahead is certainly not smooth for the censor board, where corruption seems to be a major issue. However, I&amp;B minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has asked for proofs from Ms Samson regarding her claims of corruption in the ministry. Let's see how things roll from here on.<br />
